Lonely

Jeff laughs and nods. "Yeah, that's Beej alright. Poor Rosetta..." Though he did think it was funny. Rosetta could take a lot, but Jeff knew she disliked snakes.

Enjoying a cold treat with Hunter and Katie was very much appreciated, as far as Jeff was concerned. Once they got to the little place and ordered, they were able to sit outside and it felt so much better than a hospital room. Jeff knew he needed to be careful but... he did want to get home and to a regular routine again.

It seemed like in no time they were pulling into the ranch driveway. It probably seemed a shorter trip to Jeff since he'd dozed off several times. But he wasn't going to let his tiredness get the best of him. Getting out of the car, he thanks Hunter and Katie again and says he'll see them at supper. For now though, he heads to the main office.

Knocking before entering, Jeff slips inside to find Rosetta at her desk. "Hey, Sis..."

Outside, Hunter leans  back against the hood of Katie's car and gives her a questioning look. "Guess there's a little while before supper," he muses. "What are your plans?"

"Nothing but a taco?" Justin grins and turns his truck into the Mexican restaurant's parking lot. "We'll have to remedy that. I bet we can find something you'll like."

After parking, Justin waits for Beth to escort her inside, holding the door for her and accepting a booth not far from the door. Getting settled across from her, he scans the menu. "Mm... they have a pretty good variety. I might go for some fajitas..."

It was kind of strange. Being here. It was warm and cozy, yet just as lonely as a hospital room.

Jared lies in bed, staring up at the ceiling. At least the walls weren't stark white and at least the house didn't smell like sterile cleaning substances. But it was still quiet. He was still alone.

Settled in the spare room on the main floor of the house, he could hear his mother working in the kitchen. She came to check on him often - help him, since he couldn't get up out of bed by himself. He'd be embarrassed if he hadn't spent so much time being helped in the hospital. He'd learned to take it in stride, even if it really did bother him. All he wanted at this point was to get to the bathroom and back on his own... even that wasn't possible yet, but he was too well to stay at the hospital any longer.

Apparently Justin had assisted their mother in rearranging furniture in the house so that a wheelchair could get around fairly easily. And last night, Justin had been working on the porch to build a ramp...even though he hadn't come inside to talk to him. Even so, with all this help, Jared felt out of place - like he didn't belong. Even though his mother doted on him and tried to keep him occupied, he was still bored... still lonely. And oddly enough, there was a part of him that missed the number of people passing by at the hospital.

Glancing around the room, he sighs. It was a nice sized room... but everything but the bed and a small nightstand had been moved out to provide room for him, a wheelchair, and whatever Grace needed.

Grace...

Jared's eyes move up to the clock on the wall. Today was the first day Grace would come here for his physical therapy. He was looking forward to seeing her, but not to the therapy. He knew it was good that his legs were feeling more, but the more he felt, the more pain he was in, and it wasn't fun.

A car's engine makes him cock his head to listen, and he wished he could get up and go to the window to see who it was.

Twila looks quickly to Alice, her eyes wide. They'd become pretty good friends after spending so much time together lately, but Twila never would have thought she'd be asked something like this.

"I'd... I'd love to." Her smile spreads from ear to ear. "I mean, I'd like nothing more so yes... of course I will."

Clasping her hands with excitement, her eyes dance. "I'm just so happy for you and Kyle. You both deserve this."

Something new

Getting in the back seat after all the commotion inside Katie wonder how it was her that ended up back there. She didn't mind to horribly much other than she would of rather sat in front with Hunter but her dad deserved to be up there to so she said nothing.

"Awww, You remember the place I like to go. You DO have a good memorie."

Katie gives a little giggle as she pats her dad's shoulder. She was only teasing him all in good fun.  Leaning back and looking out the window Katie lets out a laugh at her dad's command of eating there. She would of guess he'd say that and since it wasn't really anything stressful Katie figured it would be ok. She only hoped this wasn't the start to his same old stubborn habits.

"Wow, I guess I do get my bossiness from you huh?"

As her dad pats her knee Katie brings her hand to his and gives it a squeeze. She was happy her dad was coming home. There she could know it was ok, and monitor what he was doing. Though she would try to give him space it just made her feel better being closer.

"Nah, nothing to exciting except for your brothers picking on poor Hunter. Other than that the ranch had been pretty quiet. BJ found a snake yesterday and it took everything for Rosetta to get him to leave it alone. Finally Wendy bribed him with cookies!"

Exiting the house and locking up Beth continues to hold Justin's hand till she got  into Justin's truck. Taking note to it being a little cleaner and smelling a little nicer Beth gives a smile to herself. She didn't mind Justin's truck at least it got him from point a to point b but the fact he had done his best to clean it made her feel good that he at least tried.

"Mmmm...lets see what am I in the mood for."

Beth watches the building as they pass not sure what she felt like having tonight. Something different...today had a been a day for change why not keep it up and go for something new.

"How about mexican? I've never had anything other than a taco before."

Giggling along with Twila Alice can feel her cheeks go slightly red about the baby's. Alice new how much Kyle wanted a family, and she did too it was something neither of them talked to each other about because they already new they shared a common ground.

"A more solid schedule would be nice for sure at least for a little while till everything gets planned out. Than it can go crazy again."

Alice didn't mind being on the road she rather liked it. But with so many different things coming up and getting ready for some different changes in her life just for at least a year something solid would be ok with her. Just a little less stress.

"Yeah, we have to get the house fixed up a little bit and the outside weeded, and trimmed but we really want to have it there. It's big, and than afterwards we can just have the reception there too. Saves a little bit of trouble."

Scooting a little closer to Twila again and looking down at the book Alice thinks for a moment before looking up at her friend again. It had been such a blessing to find such great people who just seemed to click with Kyle. Alice would give all that credit to God, and it made her so happy to see him so happy and full of life. It made her feel good knowing she got a good group of friends out of it too.

"Hey Twila, would you like to be my maid of honor for the wedding?"

Babies

Letting the whole secret conversation go by, Jeff doesn't ask what it was between Hunter and Katie that seemed so funny. Maybe he didn't want to know.

Once in the elevator, he smirks as Katie turns her back on them. Looking to Hunter he shrugs. "I thought it was logical that she was in on the whole thing. I mean.... she does have an ornery streak. And I know this, 'cause she gets it from me."

"Oh, I have no doubt." Hunter leans back in the corner, hiding his smile. "I have a feeling that one of these days, it's gonna rear it's ugly head and I'm gonna be right in the firing line of some well-executed prank."

"Ah." Jeff nods. "Yes, indeed. That's wisdom right there, boy. You just keep on having that feeling and don't let your guard down. That's when she's most apt to strike."

As the elevator reaches the ground floor, Hunter slips out - to hold the door and make sure it didn't close and... to avoid getting whacked, kicked, or anything else he deserved for picking on Katie. He does offer her a sweet smile though, and a little wave.

It doesn't take long to get outside, and Hunter pulls the car around so they can ditch the wheelchair and not have to walk back far with it. Settled in the front passenger seat, Jeff lets out a long, weary sigh. He'd only been here a couple days, but it felt like forever to him, and he was tremendously glad to be going home.

Sliding in behind the wheel, Hunter glances in his rearview mirror at Katie, making sure she was ready to go too. "Alright.... frozen yogurt... which way?"

Jeff points to the right. "That way.... go one block then hang a left." He didn't need to ask where Katie had in mind - he knew the one favorite spot.

"Got it." As Hunter pulls the car out of the parking lot, he gives Jeff a sidelong glance. The man looked pale and bone weary. Not that it was surprising, but Hunter was sure it wasn't easy on Katie, seeing her dad like this. "You wanna pick up and go so we don't have to hang around town long or...?" He just wanted to be nice and not make it seem as though he were eager to stay here longer - the ranch was where Jeff's rest would come.

"Nope." Jeff wags his finger in the air. "The sooner we get back to the ranch, the sooner I'll be cooped up again. I'm going to enjoy this, so we're gonna go, relax, eat our frozen yogurt and then head home.... And that's an order."

Hunter's eyes widen a little and he nods. "Yes, sir. Got it."

"Good." Jeff grins and reaches a hand back behind his seat to pat Katie's knee. "Thanks for coming and getting me. Have I missed anything exciting the last couple days?"

Justin chuckles and curls his fingers around Beth's hand. "We can't have you cooking on our first date - that wouldn't be right, now would it?"

Looking down into her eyes, he imagined how different it was from the first day he'd met her. There had been dark clouds in her gaze - storms of suppressed emotions and hidden dreams. But now, the light was shining through, adding brightness to the world. Tonight she almost seemed like an excited little girl, finally set free on a new adventure. Justin was used to girls who had dated before - who were confident in going out with a man. Beth's innocence was rather refreshing and... perhaps he enjoyed being able to take the lead.

Within five minutes, they were in Justin's pickup - which was cleaner than it had been in a long time. He'd worked hard at eliminating the odor of dogs and fish... well, maybe it wasn't entirely eliminated, but it was at least tolerable now, having been scrubbed and accented with a mirror air freshner.

"Okay... let's see..." Heading down the main street in town, Justin glances from left to right. "We have the ever-popular greasy fast food.... coffee joint... ah, there's a buffet.... and that nice mexican restaurant... What are you in the mood for?"

"Oooh, I like baby blue." Twila turns the book around to look at the pictures Alice had been talking about. "If you think it's too light, maybe go with like a periwinkle or something? I think either would be fine though, and I like the idea of baby's breath."

She gives Alice a sly look and a grin. "Of course... all this talk of babies and you might give someone the wrong idea." Giggling, she shakes her head. "Not that Kyle doesn't constantly  talk about you and having a family. I tell ya... between the band and him being engaged, I think he could talk non-stop, twenty-four/seven and still be alert for the wedding."

It was pretty close to the truth. The band had been able to play at several local concerts and next week would travel out of state for three bigger shows before coming back again. Things were going well, and all the while, Kyle was his normal hyper self - although with a new twinkle to his eye. It was obvious to everyone that he was excited about marrying Alice and no one could have any doubt of him being head over heels in love. It was the source of a lot of teasing, but Kyle never minded, able to dish out just as much teasing back at them. It was all in good fun though - everyone was excited for them.

Twila had enjoyed becoming closer friends with Alice. Coming over to her apartment today was a treat and she was glad to be sharing in the wedding plans and ideas. It wasn't something she'd done a lot of, but it was fun to her and she was happy to help if she could.

"I heard him telling Theo that he hadn't set on a date with you yet because he wanted to make sure we were out on the road. I think he's been talking with Wayne and Jackie, trying to pin them down to a more solid schedule...which... I'm sure you already know." She laughs, flipping a page in the book while still thinking. "You guys still wanting to have the wedding on the grounds of your guys' house?"

Baby Blue

Once Jeff was settled into the wheel chair Katie starts to push him out of the room and down the hall. Listing to Jeff and Hunter go back and forth Katie can't help but laugh. The banter was kind of nice and hearing it gave the reassurance that Jeff liked Hunter too.

Hearing about the delightful treat and than Hunter's words that followed Katie's eyes got slightly wide before she busted out laughing. She couldn't help but find it slightly funny.

"That's right, to never have a delightful treat again would be a tragity special when the spell had just been broken."

Looking to Hunter Katie gives a wink before continuing to push she dad. She new if anything more would be said they would probley embarrass both of themselves. Katie new her dad wouldn't understand the reference but that was more than likely a good thing.

"Me...know about it. What if with both of you and thinking I had anything to do with this?"

Stepping onto the elevator with Jeff and Hunter Katie pushed the button before leaning against the wall and looking at them both. Her face was full of shock and amazement yet humor, and teasing.

"You realize I want to keep Hunter around not drive him away right? The nerve of you guys."

Turning around to have her back to the guys Katie folds her arms over he chest acting like she was mad. But a smile spread across her lips and she watched the others reflection in the metal of the elevator. She couldn't help but mess around with them and it was nice to see her dad had a little of his humor back.

"Well those people can just go suck an egg. I think you look dashing and really...thats all that matters right?"

Giving a smile and pulling the vase out from the cubored Beth fills it with a little bit of water and than the plant food that came with them. Than cutting the ends of each one she places them in the vase and arranges them nicely until she was satisfied.

"These flowers really are very pretty. Thank you so much Justin I love them."

Coming around to the other side of the table where Justin was standing Beth slips her hand into his and gives a smile. Holding hands...so simple to some people, but to Beth it was a challenge and...she rather liked it. Letting her eyes give a twinkle she looks up at Justin and gives a nod.

"I think I like that idea, drive and see where we come to. Worse comes to worse if we can't find something we like than we can just end up back here and cook. As long as I get to be in the car with you, I am happy."

Beth's face lite up so bight if it had been dark than maybe just maybe it lite up the room. She had much to smile about though. She was feeling great, she felt pretty, she had a very handsome boyfriend, and she was getting time to spend time with him. What more could a girl ask for.

"So I was thinking baby blue for the bridesmaid dressed, and little baby breath for in there hair and that could match the little flowers in my hair. I like the idea of a light blue but I don't know if that would be to light or not and on top of that we don't want the whole thing to be TO fancy, but I'd like to have it a little bit. What do you think?"

Alice slides the book across the table to let Twila look at it. It was the only real girl that Alice was close to besides Karla and she was busy today with Kip. She was going to meet up with Kyle who new when but at the moment she just wanted a little girl time.

"We really haven't even set a date yet and here I am planing. I just can't help it though I am to excited not to and to top it off I still have to pick how I want to fix the house up with Kyle and and...there are not enough hours in the day."

Sitting back in her chair Alice felt so out of breath from rambling she felt back for Twila having to listen to her. She was having fun though and she could only hope her friend was too. Planning a wedding again, making the day to come a special one it was important to her and she wanted it to be special for Kyle too.

Delightful Treat

Finally having Katie and Hunter arrive, Jeff gives her a big grin. "Hey, Kiddo."

Rolling his eyes at her, he huffs a sigh, but also does as he's told. Flopping down in the wheelchair a little harder than need be, he points to the door. "Onward. And frozen yogurt sounds fantastic. Just don't say it too loud or I'll get chided for eating something unhealthy."

Looking back over his shoulder as he's pushed down the hall, he glances to Hunter. "By the way, she's being awfully bossy. Is she like this with you too?"

"Oh, all the time," Hunter agrees quickly. "I can't get a word in edgewise most of the time. And when there's a pause, I've learned just to smile and nod." As a precautionary measure, he takes a step to the side, out of reach of any flying fists, should they be aimed at him.

Jeff laughs and reaches back over his shoulder to pat Katie's hand. "You know we love you."

"And frozen yogurt," Hunter adds.

"Yes that too. That's why we're not going to complain about bossiness anymore, 'cause other wise we might not get that delightful treat."

"The wha..."

Jeff shoots a look to the side, questioning the confusion.

"Oh, the yogurt." Hunter nods. "Right."

Catching the drift that there was something more there of which Jeff was unaware, he laughs again before shaking his head. "Get me out of here. It's a nuthouse."

Hunter smirks. "That's what that ranch of yours is."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, apparently your family - at least the guys - wanted to see if they could get rid of me." Hunter stops at the elevator and presses the down button. "Mick had me riding Bonzai this morning and-"

"Bonzai? Are you kidding?" Jeff looks up at Katie. "You actually let them do that to this poor boy?"

"Ha!" Justin shakes his head at Beth's comment. "Well I'm glad you think I look alright. A whole lot of people would probably beg to differ."

Following her inside, he looks around at the partially painted living room. "Hey, it's looking good. I'm glad to know that when I'm not around, I'm replaced by a paint can."

He grins, having fun teasing her. "And I couldn't tell you over the phone where we're going because... well, I don't know where we're going," he admits. "I thought we'd drive around and pick a spot."

In Anything

Ridding in the car with Hunter was nice and Katie enjoyed the fresh air. She loved driving but being the passenger was nice too. It gave her more time to think, and taking in all the sights she had never really seen because she was trying to pay more attachen to the road than anything else.

Glancing over at Hunter Katie just study's him for a long moment as she watched him drive. His side view was as good as the front view and she couldn't help but smile. Feeling her hand twitch Katie wanted so bad to reach over and hold Hunter's hand. She liked how warm it felt, and the tingles it gave her. But seeing his hand on the steering wheel she new not too, not right now anyways.

...Getting to the hospital Katie and Hunter both know the way and the only time they stop is to ask about the wheel chair. Finally after some hunting and getting one they were on there way and at Jeff's room. Giving a know on the door Katie enters with Hunter.

"We have arrived...and you chariot awaits. No arguing just get in this dang thing and lets get out of here. The fast we do, the faster we can stop and get frozen yogurt. How's that sound?"

Looking at Jeff and giving a grin Katie was happy to see him. She'd missed him over the last few days of not having him at the ranch and she hated not being close encase something happened. Katie also new Jeff didn't like her to worry but she was his father so she did. Now bringing him home she only hopped things would be a little different so they wouldn't be back here to soon.

Feeling her cheeks grow red Beth couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. Zach had told her the same thing but hearing it from Justin there was just something different about it, and it made her feel really good. To know Justin though she was pretty meant a million things to her.

"You totally don't look like a mess. You're one of those people who could have anything on and make it look good."

Looking up at Justin finally Beth's eyes give a little twinkle as she takes the flowers from Justin. They were very pretty and she liked them. Bringing them a little closer to her nose and taking in the soft scent her smile widens just a little bit more.

"Come on in, I want to put these in water before we leave. Oh an watch out you don't run into anything I'm in the middle of painting the living room. It's how I have been keeping busy in the little free time that I don't see you."

Stepping back into the house Beth leads the way into the kitchen. The living room had thick plastic over most of the furniture as one wall was painted a soft lavender color and the other was only half pained. Another slow change Beth was trying to make, to make this place her own and chase the shadows the lingered away.

"So what did we have planned for tonight anyways since you wouldn't tell me over the phone?!"

7/15/12

Kurtis

Seeing Misty's hand on Jason's arm then hearing her comment, Susanne's eyes widen slightly. Only after Misty had left the office does she look back to Jason, raising her eyebrows. "You two seem to be... getting along well."

Jason can feel the heat in his face, but he just casually shrugs. "Sure. We always have."

"I mean... really well..."

Jason eyes Susanne, unable to help the grin that quirks just the corner of his mouth. "Yeah, so?"

"So.... is there something I should know?"

"As a friend or as a nosy coworker?"

Susanne's jaw drops. "When have I ever been nosy, Jason Kurtis?!"

Jason's grin finally evolves into a laugh as he shakes his head and returns to sit down at his desk. "I have nothing to say, and I'm not going to tell you that those suspicious in your eyes are wrong." He waves her towards the door. "I can't concentrate on this paperwork with you standing here."

Susanne's eyes narrow. "Oh, fine." Spinning on her heel, she stalks out the door but pauses for just a moment, sticking her head back in. "Jase?"

His head comes up at her softer tone. "Yeah?"

"It's good to see you smiling again."

Without time to respond before Susanne was gone again, Jason does smile to himself. Someday he'd think of a way to repay Susanne for all her love and kindness.

Catching Katie blushing, Hunter's eyes drop to concentrate on dunking his sandwich again while leaning his elbows on the table. He wasn't about to lie to himself that he didn't know why her cheeks had turned pink. Perhaps though, his mouth was running just a bit too fast for his own good.

Glad for a subject change, he nods then smirks a little at the comment about riding the bike. "Yeah... that might be a little... uncomfortable." He rolls his eyes.

"Right after we eat is fine with me. We'll have an hour for our food to settle and I'm guessing that if your dad's released, he's gonna be sitting there waiting to get out of there."

...The rest of the noon meal experiences no more interruptions of clapping or teasing - for which Hunter is grateful. He liked it that he was being welcomed into this close-knit family, but the attention he'd already received was enough for him.

Leaving with Katie a while later was nice for several reasons. One, he convinced her to let him drive, which he always liked. Two, it gave him an excuse not to ride or clean stalls while his legs were still so sore. And three, he got to have more time with Katie - a growing perk of being in Texas...

Heading down the highway with the radio playing softly, Hunter's eyes remain on the road, his hands staying on the steering wheel. It was a quiet ride. Few words were spoken, and when they were, it was only about picking up Jeff. Nothing was said about earlier. About the kiss. About them. But... Hunter was okay with just letting it be for now. Katie was going through a hard time - he didn't want to take advantage, nor did he want to assume there was more to this if Katie had just needed a moment to feel good. Every woman needed affection - this much he'd learned to be true. He knew it was possible that Katie wanted nothing more from him than that one moment to get her past a storm cloud. It was also possible that she really did want him to be more than just a friend. But he'd be careful and not press the issue - he'd let her take her time and do his best to read her cues to see which way she wanted this thing to go. For now... for now, he would be content with a quiet, peaceful ride into town...

Sitting on the edge of his bed, Jeff straightens from slipping on his boots. Standing up, he tucks his t-shirt into his jeans and looks at the clock once more.

"Don't leave yet, Mr. Pent."

His eyes narrow at the nurse. "That's the fifth time I've been told that in the last half hour. You wanna chain me to the bed?"

"Of course not. But wait for someone to bring up the wheelchair."

"Wheelchair?! Do I look like I need one?"

"No, but it's hospital rules."

Jeff rolls his eyes. "Right. Okay. I'm staying right here on my leash, don't worry."

Justin blinks. And it's only several silent moments later that he realizes he still hadn't responded to Beth at all.

"Hmm? Oh... wait, me?" He shakes his head, a silly grin coming to his face as his cheeks redden. "Next to you, I look like I'm a mess."

Smiling, he reaches out and runs a finger under Beth's new bangs. "I like it... and I like the dress too. You look fabulous."

Looking down at the flowers, he sighs loudly. "These were pretty 'til I saw them next to you."

Tired Out

Looking over at her husband Rosetta shakes her head a little bit and gives Mick's arm a whack. Looking back down at her half eaten food and than up again her eyes twinkled. She new Mick was harmless and he was testing Hunter maybe after everything Katie was going through he wanted to make sure Hunter was in it for the long hall and not just a fun time.

"Would you leave that poor boy alone? He already past two of your tests, the halls, and riding one of our roughest horses I think He'll be around for a while."

Letting her hand lay on Mick's arm a little softer now Rosetta leans into him slightly and gives a kiss to his cheek. Mick was a caring Uncle and she new that so she wouldn't harass him to much for just looking out for her in his own odd ways.

Hearing Hunter's comment for some reason Katie cheeks turn a little red as she looks down at her food. Why she felt mildly embarrassed she wasn't sure but she couldn't help it either. It was possible that maybe it was before she could sense something growing between them.

"Soooo....I'll drive to pick dad up since we can't all fit on the bike and your probley a little sore for that."

Katie new it was a shift in topics but it was all she could do to keep from saying something silly. Though in the back of her mind hearing Hunter wanted to get married some day strikes a little cord. Her dream was to one day be married. Could...that still be possible?

"We can go right after lunch if you want, or wait a little till your food settles."

Giving another laugh and sitting up Misty shakes her head. Jason had a good scene of humor and that one was thing she liked about him. Just seeing that twinkle in his eyes or hearing that laughing in his voice it was refreshing.

   "Well...thats a..."

Misty words trail off as Susanne comes into the room. Turning and looking at her Misty smiles before looking back to Jason. She couldn't help but see the look of question in Susanne's eyes and it just made her smile grow even more. Making people wonder was always something fun to do.

Standing Misty gives a little nod to Jason knowing they both should get back to work so they could get out on time and be able to hang out tonight. Walking forward past Jason she stops and just lays a soft hand on his arm before letting go and moving past Susanne too.

"See ya tonight Jase, don't work to hard to be to tired out."

Exiting his office and making her way back to the infirmary a smile was stuck on Misty's lips as she entered and sat down at her desk. She's had a good lunch how could she not be smiling right now, not to mention it seemed like tonight was going to be a good one too.

Standing on the other side of the room with her hand on the handle Beth just stands there for a long moment not opening the door. She was just a little bit nervous of what Justin would say about her. This morning she had deiced she wanted something different. It was time to change things and she started with a hair cut. Now her hair that had gone past her shoulders was at shoulder lagnth, and her bear forehead had bands on one side. It was different and she thought maybe she liked it but it was really to soon to tell.

Finally taking a deep breath she opens the door, The draft from doing so making her red sundress sway in the breeze a little bit. The delicate necklace that had been her mom's glittering a little in the light. She new this wasn't a fancy date but she wanted to look nice for the first date anyways.

"Heya, sorry it took me so long to open the door. You look really nice tonight."

A Wife

Catching Katie looking at him, Hunter gives her a crooked sort of grin. He wasn't sure what to think of all this. First what new things might be developing between him and Katie, then walking into this scene. He really wasn't sure whether to be embarrassed, on guard, honored, scared or at ease.

Picking up his sandwich, he pauses before taking a bite as he receives Katie's apology. His grin returns and he shakes his head. "Don't be sorry. I have a strange feeling that all this is a good thing - I just haven't figured out why yet."

His eyes roam to where Mick was sitting with his back to them. "But I will... I have a feeling Bonzai wasn't the last of these shenanigans." He still didn't really get it, but somehow, there was a bit of stubbornness that had been ignited down deep. He might have lost his city slicker title, but he had a long way to go yet before he'd fit in here. And for some reason... he wanted to. He'd do it, too. He'd figure out how.

Dipping his sandwich in the soup and taking a bite, he closes his eyes with a murmur of pleasure. "Mmmm... you wouldn't think something so simple would taste so good, but this is definitely the best grilled cheese and tomato soup I've ever had." A chuckle is heard behind him and he turns to look over his shoulder, spotting Becky.

"I'm glad you like it." Becky smiles. "If I can please somebody with something like this, I think I've got it made."

"You do, at that. I'm not sure I want to go back to my bachelor cooking."

Becky laughs. "Maybe you just need to learn how to cook."

"Tried that once." Hunter grins. "I think I was made to do something else. Maybe one day I'll have a fantastic cook for a wife."

Jim chuckles, elbowing Becky. "That's what I did."

Still grinning, Hunter turns back to his food and takes another bite. Looking across at Katie again, he winks.

"...Do you have someone who's going to come get you?"

"Yeah, my daughter's gonna come I think." Sitting up in bed, Jeff sighs as he's checked over one more time by one of the nurses.

"And the doctor gave you instructions, right?"

"Of course." Jeff grimaces. "Yeah. Eat bland food and sleep half my life away."

The nurse gives him a chiding look. "Now now... it's not that bad."

"I know." Jeff winces as he's pricked for some blood to be drawn. "Avoid fatty foods or excess salt, get plenty of rest for the next two weeks, don't lift over ten pounds for four weeks and when I get tired, stop."

"There, you see?" The nurse smiles sweetly. "That shouldn't be too hard."

"Not for somebody who likes to sit around and do nothing." Left alone again, Jeff looks up at the clock. Pretty soon he could get dressed in his own clothes and be waiting to go home.

"Ahhh twenty-five minutes total then. That should do it." Jason laughs, taking his feet off his desk and cleaning up some of the lunch mess. "I'll at least have the couch cleared off..."

Glancing up at Misty, his grin is a sly one, but he says no more about it.

"Jason, could you..." Having entered the office without knocking, Susanne stops short, papers in hand. "Oops, sorry." She looks at Misty then at Jason, then back and forth one more time. There was obvious question in her gaze, but she doesn't ask. "I just wondered if you could fill these out of me. Reese is breathing down my neck."

"Yeah, sure." Standing up to retrieve the pages, he looks to Misty. "I'll um... see you after work then."

Knocking on Beth's door, Justin waits for her to answer. As luck would have it, she'd had to work the last few days and he'd been extremely busy, juggling visits to Scott and Mackenzie, helping his mother, seeing Jared and helping Mr. Jones finish building his porch. It wasn't fair, after their relationship had taken another step. All they'd had were a couple phone calls and that was it. Tonight though, he'd promised he'd take her out somewhere.

Dressed in his nice jeans and his black collared shirt tucked in, they weren't going anywhere fancy, but he rarely got out of his holey jeans and old t-shirts, so for him, it was an obvious occasion.

Holding the bouquet of spring flowers, he shifts his weight just a little nervously, hoping she liked them.

15+10= Enough time?

Grabbing her and Hunter both a plate and some food Katie joins Hunter sliding the plat to him. Looking down at the food Katie couldn't help but lick her lips. Everything looked so good she hadn't realized just how hungry she was till now. Hearing his comment though Katie stops looking up at him. Her eyes go slightly wide. Did he really think she was in on it?

"I...I can honestly say I did not. This is the first time I have even seen them act like this myself. Maybe they have been bored?"

Katie looks past Hunter for a second at her Uncles before back to Hunter. Shaking her head a little she still couldn't believe they had all been in on this with Hunter. Why she wasn't sure but she was glad though that Hunter was a good sport.

Dipping her grilled cheese into her soup and than taking a bit Katie just continues to study Hunter for a moment as a smile spreads across her lips. She could search his eyes all day because they were held with so much emotion. It was like each look had a new story.

Finally looking away though Katie takes a little sip of her soup before putting the spoon down. She new maybe she didn't have to say sorry to Hunter, but something make her want to anyways. Just to make sure.

"Sorry they put you through that. Thanks for taking it in good stride though."

Misty nods taking the last sip of water from her bottle. She new her Uncle wouldn't be mad or at least she thought he wouldn't be but she didn't know if he would be happy either. The last thing she wanted to do was have either of them working more while there relationship was starting to finally grow.

"Knowing my Uncle it wont take him long to figure it out once he see us together, but I think you right he should figure it out himself. Last thing we need to do is work more than we are already right?"

Giving a little grin and shaking her head a little Misty gives a chuckle. She couldn't believe how natural this really felt. It was almost normal and it didn't frighten her only intrigue her to move forward.

"Ha, and you think my place is clean. How about I leave fifteen minutes after you leave, go to the store, pick up some snacks and pop that will take another ten minutes....and than head to you place?"

My Butt

Getting swatted on the arm, Mick turns in surprise before his grin returns. "Aw, he's no worse for wear. See?" He gestures to Hunter who was smirking. Eying Katie a moment, Mick's grin spreads and he pats her shoulder. "Just don't let him run away too quick. Bonzai needs a new rider and -"

"And this sore ex-city slicker may not be able to ride for a month," Hunter intervenes. Though his eyes were narrow, humor laced his tone.

"Right... right. Sorry about that."

"Sorry my butt." Hunter takes Katie's shoulders from behind and steers her towards the nearest table. "Give me a good meal and maybe, just maybe I'll still stick around."

Mick gives him a little bow, moving back out of the way. The clapping resumes along with some laughter from the other guys and Hunter rolls his eyes as he sits down across from Katie. Catching her eye, he leans in a little bit, keeping his voice low. "So did you know they were going to "initiate" me like this? Is this a normal routine for friends of family members or what?"

Mick returns to his seat next to Rosetta at another table, gluing his eyes to his food as he takes a new bite of his sandwich. He...hadn't exactly told her about any of this.

Jason grins again. "Maybe we should just wait and let him find out on his own." The last thing he needed was to give Reese one more reason to give him a bad time or keep him busy. He could just see having to work late nights all of a sudden for "no" reason.

"Okay." Setting aside the food carton, Jason takes another long sip of pop. "I get a fifteen minute head start then. You realize that's not much for a bachelor to make his place presentable."

Exspence

Feelings hand slip into her own Katie just lets her smile grow a little more. Just something about feeling his hand with hers Katie couldn't explain it but it was nice, and it felt....good. It was almost like a warm sensation that crawled up her, much different from when she drew emotions from a person, this was natural.

"Food at this point sounds great."

Entering the dinning hall and hearing all the clapping start Katie looks around. She felt for a moment like some kind of super star. She didn't know what was going on and as the other spoke between them, and Hunter all she can do it stand there looking to them, than Hunter than them again.

As the talking continues though and Katie starts to peace everything together she finally folds her arms over her chest and looks at her Uncles. They were lucky Hunter could take a joke and was in good spirits about the whole thing and didn't want to high tail it or they would have to deal with her and that was a much worse fate.

Continuing to listen and just listen Katie starts to move forward once more to get them both a place to eat. Hearing about the bet though Katie stops and turns having just passed Mick. Giving him a swat on the arm and a stern look her eyes betrayed her as they sparkled with a new light.

"I think if anyone should get bet money it should be Hunter since you did his at his exspence."

Giving a laugh and putting another peace of broccoli into her mouth Misty couldn't blame Jason for not keeping his apartment clean. He was a single male after all they were aloud to keep there places mess that was just the rule right?

"Clean, dirty I don't care what your place looks like as long as your there. However if it makes you feel better I will wait fifteen minutes before leaving after you so you can clean a little bit."

Taking a little scoop of rice and than setting the container down on Jason's desk. Putting the top on she lets out a stuff content sigh. She could not eat another bit if she wanted too. She'd already over eaten but if asked she would blame the little bundle of joy inside of her.

Picking up her water again and taking a swig she swishes it around in her mouth for a second before swallowing it. Thinking about Jason's question Misty sits back in the chair. She really hadn't though about what Reese might say but what really had her hung up was that Jason just called her his girlfriend. Those were words Misty never expected to hear that but now that she did...she really liked the sound of it a lot more than one might expect.

"I think...I think I don't know what he will thing..."

Misty is silent for a second as she looks across the desk at Jason.

"I care what he thinks, but I don't care if he doesn't approve, but I think he will. Maybe we should tell him and find out?"

7/14/12

What bet?

Chuckling at Katie, Hunter grins and accepts his shoes. "Thanks. You're probably right."

Bending to slip them on and tie them, he finally stands, stretching tall and twisting to pop his back. "Mmm... okay, that feels better now." Sighing with content, he wanders to the door, walking just a bit stiffly. Opening it for Katie, he gestures outside. "After you, melady."

Joining her on the porch, he pauses a moment and looks down at her, a new smile forming. Maybe... maybe this trip had more to it than he'd originally thought. He couldn't complain though. Katie had an effect on him that no one else did. She drew out the softer side of him, as if his rowdiness was shot dead whenever he was with her. And... he didn't mind. He'd rather have more of these moments than the ones with a group of rowdy buddies anyway. Would...there be more of these moments? Or was this just a one-time kiss to make them both feel better? He honestly didn't know.

Locking her hand in his, he gives it a squeeze. "Shall we dine?"

Entering the dining room with Katie a few minutes later, it's obvious that lunch had already started as most people were halfway through their meals. His entrance with her didn't go unnoticed though, as out of nowhere, Sparky stands up and starts to clap - as do Eric, Mick and several others.

Hunter skids to a halt, his eyes widening. What was going on?

"He's up and walking!" Sparky calls from across the room.

"I don't even think he's limping... much," Eric adds, stifling a laugh.

Hunter blinks and looks to Katie, bewildered before looking back around the room again. He could feel his cheeks growing hot. "Am I... not supposed to be?" He looks directly at Mick who just stares back at him, obviously holding in laughter. "Well?"

Luke comes slowly to them both, setting a hand on Hunter's shoulder. "The last time any of those fellas rode Bonzai, they were walking bowlegged for at least a week - and they're seasoned riders."

Hunter still didn't understand. He looks at Katie then back at Luke with question. "I don't get it."

Eric clears his throat and pushes his chair back from the table a little so he could turn around. "Bonzai is the roughest ride in the barn."

"His trot gets the best of riders saddle sore," Sparky adds.

Now it was starting to make sense. Hunter shoots as look back to Mick. "You mean you..."

Mick nods sheepishly, his grin twitching.

Luke pats Hunter's shoulder. "The fact that you rode for that long, plus bareback, plus helped in the barn afterward, then actually showed up here for lunch instead of lying in a hot bath the rest of the day... I think you deserve the rest of the day off."

Mick finally stands up and wanders over to Hunter too, holding out his hand. "Hunter... you may be from the city... but you have just lost your title of city slicker."

Hunter's eyes narrow as he looks at Mick's hand suspiciously. "Do you initiate everybody this way?"

"No." Mick's eyes dance with humor.

Smirking, Hunter accepts Mick's handshake anyway. "I don't know whether to feel honored or humiliated."

"Honored," Sparky pipes up again. "Definitely honored. It's not every day Mick has somebody ride the only horse he hates to straddle."

"Hey now." Mick laughs. "Shush."

Sparky just grins - along with others who got the joke.

Hunter shakes his head and sighs. "Anything else I should know about before staying here any longer?"

Mick chuckles. "Naw. Thanks for being a good sport."

"He's just happy be won the bet." Luke rolls his eyes.

"Wait..." Hunter looks around again. "What bet?"

"Never mind." Mick gestures to the tables. "Katie, get some food in this boy - he deserves it."

"Ha!" Jason grins. "Confusing Rick is the best. If he only knew how funny he looks..."

Taking a sip of pop, he smacks his lips. "Okay good. My place tonight. But you better let me get there first. I should... probably clean up a few things." His cheeks grow a little warm. He hadn't exactly been keeping house very well lately.

He takes another bite of food before quirking an eyebrow. "Think your uncle's gonna like me dating you, or should I be scared?"

Courner

Misty can't help but laugh at Jason's comment. He had a point though, right now her couch was Alec's bed and though it was her apartment it was his home now too. She never wanted to be disrespectful and make Alec feel uncomfortable, but that wouldn't keep her from having a nice time either.

"Coming to your place sounds great to me. Maybe we could grab a movie or something and I could whip us up some dinner."

Looking back down at her food for a second and grabbing a small peace of broccoli along with a peace of shrimp Misty runs it through the sauce before taking a bit. This really did hit the spot today and maybe it was only because of the company she was with but not matter what it was good.

"I think Rick thinks we are crazy by the way! He gave me the strangest look when I left for lunch."

Giving a gentile smile that could light up the room if it was dark Katie sits up with Hunter too. Just letting her feet dangle off the bed the smile remained on her face. There was just something about Hunter that was different, he was being such a gentlemen and Katie really liked that.

"If one of your spells broke too, than I would say this has been a success."

Looking to Hunger and just letting her smile grow a little more Katie stands and gives a little stretch. She hadn't even been lay on the bed that long and it just seemed like everything had stiffen up on her. After moving around a little bit it would be better but for now it was just a pain.

Spotting Hunter's sneakers on the floor over on the other side of the room Katie goes and grabs them before turning to him holding them out. She'd have to bet theses were going to feel like heaven on his feet next to the boots he had, had on.

"I think your shoes were hiding over in the corner keeping there eyes covered."

Me Too

Staring down at Katie, Hunter's heart beat hard within his chest. She was smiling... she must have approved of his kisses. Hearing what she had to say and feeling the gentle pressure on the back of his head, he gives in, gladly returning for another kiss. A little deeper than before, a chill runs down his spine. Though tempted to remain and enjoy the kiss to the fullest, he holds himself back. Not now... not yet...

As Katie draws back and tells him the spell had been broken, a smile curls his lips. "I'm glad," he responds softly. "I thought it was warm and soft too... and made me tingle..." His palm comes to rest on Katie's cheek. "Does that mean you broke one of my spells too?"

Smiling, he finally pushes himself up and back off Katie to turn and sit up. If he didn't, he might stay here forever. Now... where had he put his sneakers?

Jason didn't have any plans after work either. He'd gotten a text from Sandy but... he'd rather spend another evening with Misty than go bowling with the guys.

Taking another bite of chicken, it gives his tongue another pleasant burning sensation. Digging around in the box, he finds another piece of broccoli to pop in his mouth.

"Well... we could always occupy my tv and couch over at my place..." He shrugs. "Since your couch is someone else's bed right now." He tosses her a sly grin. "We wouldn't want to rob Alec of his bed, now would we?" In truth, Jason liked Alec, but if he and Misty were just going to hang out, he'd rather have her to himself.

You did

As Hunter moves closer Katie can feel her heart pick up its beating. It pounded so hard in her chest she thought for sure Hunter was going to hear it and if he didn't someone else might and come running wondering what it was. Looking up into his eyes Katie could see a million emotions even if she couldn't read them all. They only caused her heart to race even more her words a soft whisper as she smiled.

"I don't think he would say no at all."

Feeling Hunter's soft kiss to her cheek and than to her neck Katie's smile grows a little more as she murmurs a small pleased sound. Having him than come to her lips for a very so soft kiss but one that still held much feeling to it Katie returns it as her on hand comes up to his arm and the other cradles his face. Just running her finger over his cheek, and than making its way to his own lips as he pulls away Katie cocks her head to the side the smile remaining.

"I think, the spell has been broken but you can never be to sure."

Bringing her hand to the back of Hunter's head and letting her fingers comb through his hair Katie gently pulls him twords her gentily pressing her lips to his once again just letting it linger a little longer than before. The emotions she felt when kissing Hunter were soft, but nice they felt...good and made her feel like a woman inside again. Had the spell been broken? Pulling away again her eyes twinkle.

"I...felt that. It felt, warm, soft, and made me tingle. I think you really did break the spell."

Laughing at Jason's comment about pigging out on a buffet Misty could totally see them both doing it. Though she would be able to use the excuse of a baby to back her up. Setting her food down for a second and taking a swig from her bottle of water Misty looks across the desk at Jason. She was enjoying there having lunch with Jason and having lite conversation. It was nice.

"Tonight, tonight...I don't have anything planned that I know of."

Taking her food again and leaning back in her chair Misty pops a peace of shrimp into her mouth than  licking the sauce off her lips. This really had been a good choose on Jason's part maybe he did know her better than she thought.

Holding up her chopsticks and looking at Jason she cocks her head for a second just studying his face. His eyes...she could look into his eyes forever and never feel bored.

"Did you have something in mind to do tonight? I'm up for anything really. The only thing calling me after work is the couch and the tv. Doing that alone just...doesn't seem fun."

Misty really was enjoying spending time with Jason and having him around. It was nice to not have to be alone, and to talk with someone. She had Alec back at her place now but there was just something different about Jason and knowing he really enjoyed being with her made her feel that much better.

Spell

Prince Charming? Katie actually...wanted... him to kiss her? Hunter can feel his pulse quicken slightly. What horrible spell must be broken? Would his affection help the sunlight enter Katie's world again?

His finger continues to run softly up and down her cheek as he contemplates her suggestion. She was so beautiful. Everything about her. He'd thought so from the beginning. But especially right now. Maybe it was because she'd been asleep and was so peaceful looking. Or maybe it was because she trusted him enough to be lying here next to him without fearing his intentions. She seemed small... almost fragile... yet something he'd never want to harm. Would romantic affection spoil their friendship? Something told him it would only enhance it.

Slowly leaning in closer, Hunter's eyes lock with Katie's. A thousand and one feelings seem to float on his gaze. Finally letting his hand glide from her face, he reaches his arm across her to position his face just inches above hers. "Would Prince Charming say no to Sleeping Beauty?" he asks quietly. A smile comes to his lips before they lower to Katie's cheek, kissing her softly. Sliding down, a trail of gentle, slow kisses moves to her neck then back to her cheek before finally Hunter's lips meet hers. He lets them remain for only a sweet moment before drawing back far enough to see her eyes again.

"Did I break the spell?" he whispers.

Jason grins, glad he'd picked something Misty liked. For him, it really was hard to go wrong with Chinese food. He'd eat just about anything, loving most of it. Lately it seemed he had more of a hankering for something spicy though, which was what he got today. And when something at Tou Han's was marked as spicy, it really was.

Taking a sip of coke in between bites to calm his burning tongue, he sighs with content. "Yeah, I'm pretty happy with most dishes too. A buffet... now that's what we ought to do sometime. Then we can both pig out on everything."

Nodding, he licks his chopsticks, savoring the flavor. "So.... you heading home after work today, or you wanna do something?" He didn't want to pressure her if she'd just rather go home and rest. He really didn't want to go home and watch stupid television with Trooper, but he was going to let Misty lead on this one, not wanting to smother her.

If you want...

Feeling the warm hand on her cheek Katie makes a soft noise. She was somewhere between being awake and being a sleep. Deep enough that it would take a moment to wake, but awake enough she could hear what was going on around her.

Hearing Hunter's words Katie could feel a little cold shiver go up her back though now awake she still didn't move. Finally opening one eye she looks at Hunter before closing it quickly again.

"Didn't you know Prince Charming is meant to kiss the Princess to wake her up?"

Letting her smile grow a little more Katie opens her eyes and just looks up at Hunter. Not moving from her spot something about him just laying next to her seemed comfortable. Like she had no worry what his intention might be it was just comfortable. Not to mention incredibly sweet for not just haled off and kissing her. She might of slugged him for that one.

"And a kiss breaks the horrible spell you know...maybe you should try and see if it works?"

Katie gives a grin soaking in how handsome Hunter looked at this moment. He always looked good but something about right here, right now just made him look extra good. Could of been the right out of the shower look, the scruffy look or maybe the light was coming in the window just right.

"I mean that is...if you want."

Placing a hand over her stomach it had almost become second nature to do that now. Letting her grin grow even more her face lighted up at the same time. Misty had never planned on being a parent though the desire was always there. Now though it was completely different actually knowing she was going to be a parent and it was exciting.

"Yeah I am eating for two and it gives me a reason to get fat."

Giving a laugh and going to sit down Misty leans back in he chair stretching for a second before reaching out and grabbing the food. It didn't take long as Misty dug into the food. It tasted so good she hadn't really realize how hungry she was till now.

"When it comes to Chinese food there is not much I wont eat, however you picked food with the shrimp and broccoli, its what I like eating the most."

Whispered Warning

Hunter just smiles as he keeps his route to the bathroom, closing the door behind him. How he'd got himself in this position, he wasn't sure. But... even though he complained about how sore he was... there was something about it that felt good too.

A few minute later as the warm water washes over him, he closes his eyes for a several moments, just reliving the past couple days. He wasn't sure why Mick, and even Eric, seemed to have it out for him... but it wasn't even like that either. It was more like they were teasing him... testing him. Did they do that with any friends Katie brought home? Maybe that was all it was. Maybe they liked pushing her friends just to see how well they'd hold up around here. Well, if that was the case, Hunter wasn't going to give up. Not to mention... it was nice having new things to do that didn't remind him of the past... the accident... or anything else he didn't want to think about it. Sore or not, it was worth it.

Making his shower a quick one, he's soon dressed again and running a comb through his hair. He could use a shave... He runs a hand over his face. Not now though - not enough time.

Whistling a tune as he exits the bathroom, he glances around to see where he'd put his sneakers. "Well, it's not as bad as I thought. Hot water seemed to loosen me up a bit and..."

His sentence trails off as he sees Katie on the bed. Realizing she'd dozed off, a smile creases his lips. Wandering closer, he just watches her for several moments, finding her peaceful form had a calming effect. Easing down on the bed, he lies on his side beside her, propped up on his elbow. He wasn't surprised she was so tired.... maybe picking up her dad would perk her up a bit. He'd rather see her smiling and happy than down.

Reaching over, he brushes her cheek with a gentle finger. "Hey partner," he whispers. "I thought we were gonna go get soup and sandwiches." There was way too big of a temptation to just curl up beside her and fall asleep too - his only option was to wake her up so they could go eat. She was just resting so peacefully though. "You better get up..." His voice was still quiet, even though he warned her. "I'm liable to kiss you if you don't."

Jason's office? For lunch? Rick found that a little bizarre, as he did Misty's silly laugh, but he just lets it roll off his back. It wasn't worth his time to try and figure her or Jason out. Maybe he was just turning into an old fuddy-duddy.

Smiling as Misty enters his office, Jason shakes his head. "No problem. I was just as hungry as you, ya know." He pauses and glances to her tummy then back up again. "Well... maybe not," he teases.

Taking the food out of the bags, it isn't long before he's seated in his chair, his feet up on his desk as he ate out of one of the containers with a pair of chopsticks. "Mm... I don't think I'll ever get tired of Tou Han's."

Looking to Misty on the other side of his desk, he hopes he'd gotten her the right thing. "You had an awful lot of confidence in me - I hope I did get something you like."

Smell

"I guess I'll wait here so if you fall down I can go get help."

Giving a laugh Katie leans back on Hunter's bed. Keeping her feet danging over the edge though so her dirty shoes didn't get onto the covers Katie puts her arms behind her head. Just looking up at the ceiling for a long moment before her eyes fell shut.

Opening they again she told herself she couldn't fall asleep. There was lunch still and going to pick up her dad than more chores how could she think of sleep? Her eyes slowly drifting shut again Katie trys to reason with herself. It was only till Hunter was out of the shower than they could go. She didn't know why she felt so tired all of a sudden but his bed just seemed...comfortable.

Giving a laugh at Jason's comment Misty can't help but shake her head again. She thought his comment was rather funny and the fact that it got him so flustered was even better. There was just something about his cheeks going crimson that made it all worth wild.

"Alright I'll see you again in a little bit."

Returning the kiss Misty gives a small smile and watches as Jason leans. As Rick enters mumbling to himself Misty's eyes go wide for a second as she looks quickly down at her paper work. Everyone was going to know about her and Jason, but maybe not pushing it to fast would be a good thing.

...As the minutes tick by Misty does her best to pay attachen to what she is doing but she couldn't help her mind wondering. She was hungry, she wanted to see Jason again she felt like a high schooler. Finally hearing her phone buzz and than hearing Jason's voice Misty laughs before looking up at Rick and giving a silly grin.

"Alright I'll be right there but it best be more than just soup in the office."

Standing and making sure everything was together nice on her desk Misty moves around to the other side before stopping and looking to Rick. Giving a smile and a nod she figured she should at least let him know she was leaving.

"Just heading out for lunch if you need me I'll be in Jason's office. Don't wait up to late ok?"

Giving another laugh Misty takes her leave. Making her way across the floor and to Jason's office she gives a knock on the door before entering. Stepping inside and taking a deep breath the smell of the food made her that much more hungry.

"Man oh Man does this smell good or what. Thanks so much Jase."

Don't Care

"Hobbling?" Hunter quirks an eyebrow. "We're talking barely walking here - hobbling would be if I was in good shape."

Gaining back a grin, he shakes his head. "I guess I deserve it."

He sighs again but agrees to Katie's suggestion. "Okay... I'll take a quick shower then." Wriggling her hand, he finally lets her go and manages to sit up and swing his legs over the side of the bed. Kicking off the boots, he grimaces. "I'm gonna have to get myself my own pair of boots. I think I have at least four blisters."

Realizing how much he's complaining, he gives Katie a sidelong glance before laughing. "Can I get much more pitiful than this?" Standing up, he heads - slowly - towards the bathroom. "Shower. Lunch. Stay here or go save me a seat, I don't care one way or the other. I'll only be a couple minutes."

Returning Misty's intent stare, Jason felt as though he were looking into a portal that led to a whole new world yet to be explored. He could just stare into those eyes forever.

"Yeah... I think I know what you like..."

Only after he'd said it does he realize that it could possibly refer to something other than food, and his own cheeks gain a little color. Biting his lip, a teasing smile spreads as he stands up. "I'll go get the food in a bit and I'll let you know when I'm back."

Turning to leave, he stops and looks over his shoulder. After just a moment, he turns back around to lean down and give Misty a light kiss on the lips. "See you again shortly."

Almost running into Rick as he leaves the infirmary, he skids to a halt at the door. "Oh, sorry."

"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute." Rick stops him in the hall. "Don't we have an appointment?"

"Huh? Oh. Later. I got... work. Busy. Later."

Watching Jason walk away, Rick roll his eyes before going over to the counter. "That boy never changes."

...It wasn't too much later that Jason had returned with the food and was in his office. Picking up the phone, he hits the button for Misty's desk. "Soup's on..."

Sitting in the backyard, leaned back against the shed, Alec fingers the photo he'd been staring at for the last hour. Wiping his eyes, he runs his finger over Ryan's face again. It never failed. Whenever he had a free moment, his mind returned to Ryan. Earlier he'd thought he'd heard a familiar car engine and had gone around the house to look, only to find the street empty. It wasn't the first time he'd done that either. Every night as he laid on Misty's couch, he wished he could feel his arms wrapped around Ryan again. He wished he was falling asleep at her and Eli's place, waking up to Ryan's sweet kiss and smile. He just... missed her.

Sniffing and returning the picture to his pocket, Alec slowly gets to his feet and returns to work. It was taking him longer today with his sore hand.

Hobbling

Giving a laugh Katie can only imagine Mick breaking in Hunter, or at least showing him how different it is. Katie wasn't sure the reason but she new there had to be on there. Somewhere he had a hidden reason the real mastery was figuring out why.

"Not mean, maybe he was just giving you a reminded not to get to cocky."

Looking down at Hunter after he rolls over Katie smiles and shakes her head. He was a different one for sure, but Katie didn't really mind that much. He'd stuck it out with Mick for most of the morning and that alone said something.

"No way, if you get up, take your shower now I might just save some for you. I'll even give you a little extra time for hobbling ok?"

Giving a laugh and shaking her head at Jason Misty's eyes twinkle. It had been a long time since she had seen the silly side of Jason. It was nice though to see if again and see the sparkle that had come back to his eye. Misty wasn't sure where it had gone to start, maybe it was the whole connection that he had shared that seemed to make it dissipate but now, it was back and she liked it.

"I think bringing it back here to eat in your office sounds like a better plan than going out and rushing the food down."

Leaning forward onto the desk and looking at Jason Misty smiles again. As she looked at him, searched his eyes her heart seemed to pound harder in her chest and it was something she could not help. There was something special about Jason, there always was and finally being able to let her feelings out she realized just how strong they were.

"You already know what I like so you don't have to worry about taking my order. Just nothing to sloppy I don't want to make to much of a mess of your office."

Misty gives a shy wink to Jason as small bit of color comes to her cheeks.

Two Out of Three

Hunter just gives Katie a grunt in response but as her hands start rubbing his back, he automatically begins to relax. "Mm..." He sighs deeply, just lying there for a few more moments, enjoying it. "I think I'd take this over lunch," he mumbles into the pillow. "Even tomato soup and grilled cheese." He pauses as she hits a sore spot, but it still felt good. "Can I hire you?"

Finally though, he manages to roll over. Looking up at Katie, he gives her a sheepish grin. "Yeah, this city slicker done got broke in alright. You have a very cruel uncle."

He rolls his eyes. "Or maybe it's just that I figured I was hot stuff and he enjoyed watching me find out I'm not." Picking up her hand, he toys with her fingers. "Either way, I think my legs are permanently positioned in the shape of Bonzai's back. And I still need a shower... which means I may have to miss out on lunch after all."

"Oh, I don't know." Jason finally lets his hand drop, scooting his chair back just a little and swiveling back and forth. "Who said anything about being fair anyway?"

He grins and shrugs. "How about... Chinese? I'm swamped today but I'll have enough time to make a quick trip to Tou Han's, if that sounds alright to you." Gaining a new sly look, he cocks his head. "Or I can go pick it up and bring it back here so we could eat in my office. Then we'd cover two out of three options."

Loosen Up

Walking in farther Katie just study's Hunter for a long moment not sure what on earth he was doing. Just laying there she didn't know if he was hurt, sore or what on earth was going on. Hearing his groan though and thinking for a second Katie and an idea.

"Ah, I see the city boy was broken in today huh?"

Coming in closer and sitting down on the bed Katie gives a little chuckle before placing her hands on Hunter's shoulders and starting to run before moving down his back. She wasn't as good as he was yesterday but at least this would help him feel a little better.

"Gotta get you loosened up a little bit. Today is grilled cheese and tomato soup we can't pass that up."

Giving a smile to Jason and his comment maybe Misty didn't know the full existent to what she did do to him but if it was anything like she felt she new at least half. Just letting Jason's fingers run over her skin Misty closed her eyes for a second. As Jason passed over her lips she gave his finger a soft kiss before opening her eyes again.

She loves the way Jason touched her, it was soft but strong his skin seemed rough but not to the point where it hurt. Everything just seemed balanced and almost perfect. These simple moments seemed to be just as good as the more indeepth ones.

"Lunch sounds good to me, but this time you get to pick because I picked yesterday and its only fair you get to once and a while...right?"

7/12/12

Or Three

Feeling Misty's hand on his leg, Jason sucks in his breath but he doesn't move. Grinning as Misty moves closer, he lets her, more than willing to accept - and return - her kiss. His palm moves to rest on her hand, his other one reaching up to cradle her cheek. Caught up in the kiss, his heart races and his fingers curl to give her hand a squeeze. For too long, Jason had felt as though he were a walking dead man. But all of a sudden, like a whirlwind, Misty made him feel alive again.

As she draws back, he smiles, breathing heavily, his cheeks slightly flushed. "That's okay... if you hadn't, I would have." Laughing softly, his thumb caresses her cheek, jawline, and gently runs over her lips.

"You better be careful," he warns quietly. "I'm not so sure you know just what you do to me."

Grinning, he lets his thumb continue to map out her face, gliding past her lips again. "How about we start with lunch.... and go from there...?"

Hearing Katie, Hunter is still lying face-down in bed. He would have gotten up, but he also hears her open the door, so he gives in yet again to his protesting muscles.

Groaning into his pillow, he gives a little wave of his hand. "I'm coming," he mumbles, remaining face-down. "Give me a minute.... or three... I don't think I can move..."

Flirt

Hearing Jason's answer Misty gives a smile as her own cheeks turn slightly red. Since finding out Carson had cheated on her yet again Misty had felt a lot of different things. Though she would never show it and always held her head high with much confidence but on the inside she felt ugly, like something was wrong with her that caused her husband to look else where. But Jason he changed that and helped her feel sexy again, that maybe there wasn't anything wrong. Even if he didn't know it He made her feel like herself again and that fire seemed to burn brighter than ever!

"Lunch, Dinner, or come to your office huh?"

Misty can't help but let her hand slip under the desk and rest on Jason's leg. Softly rubbing it her own eyes give a little twinkle. Looking up, back and forth making sure no one was around she leans a little closer her hand still on Jason's leg.

"How about all three? I just can't get enough of you, you know that...right?"

Leaning in a little more Misty grins before pressing her lips to Jason. She could guess his comment that yesterday was not a one time thing and now...now was another new adventure they could enjoy. Letting a little time pass Misty finally pulls away and smile shyly at him.

   "Sorry, I couldn't help myself."

Exiting her bunk and her hair up into a damp poney tail Katie new she was running a little late for lunch. She'd been working with the horses a little extra, and by time she new it time had just flown by. To top it off she was way to dirty to go without a shower.

Looking around and not seeing Hunter anyways Katie wondered if maybe he was at the mess hall. Wondering that way she pokes her head in for a quick second and than out again not seeing Hunter. Maybe he was running later than she was too.

Heading back down the steps and to his bunk Katie gives a knock on the door before trying the handle and opening the door.

"Hunter you in here? You better be decent I am coming in."

One More Minute

Jason's cheeks immediately flush at Misty's comment, but he recovers quickly, still grinning. His apprehensions about how she might feel today had quickly been put to rest. "I'm going to attempt hitting on a sexy woman - that's what I'm doing here."

Rolling his chair closer until it bumps hers, he leans in even more until his face was just inches from hers. "You wanna do lunch?" His voice lowers. "Dinner?" Even quieter, he whispers. "Come to my office?" He raises and lowers his eyebrows suggestively, but a teasing glint remains in his eyes.

Hunter smiles a little, although he didn't believe everything was all that fine with Katie. He wouldn't pry though. She respected him when he didn't want to talk about his own problems - he'd respect her too. At least, apparently, it wasn't anything he'd done.

Letting her swing his hand, he chuckles. "I'll be sure to take seconds then - I don't want to risk insulting anybody."

As dinner would have it, Hunter didn't have to think twice about having seconds. The food really was that good, and whether his stomach really needed the extra helping or not didn't matter. There was definitely no risk of insults.

Sitting with Katie through the meal, he continues to get acquainted with the others, making sure he knew names correctly and still piecing together who was related to who. It helped that they sat with Wendy and Clint. Clint was a riot and it wasn't long before he and Hunter got the table to laughing so much, choking was a real hazard that had to be avoided. Even Chase, who had no idea what was going on, joined in with happy gurgling and giggling while getting food all over himself, giving Wendy quite the hard time.

By the time the meal was finished and some ice cream eaten for dessert, even though there was an offer for UNO, Hunter was ready to call it an evening, especially since he had told Mick he'd help with a few last minute chores in the barn. And once he was finished there, he really was exhausted. He wasn't sure why, especially since he'd had a nap, but he wasn't going to fight it.

Bidding Katie goodnight, it's a warm hug that he offers, hoping that tomorrow would be easier on her, especially since her dad would get to come home...

"Alrighty... Hunter, this is Bonzai... Bonzai, meet your rider for the day."

Hunter grins at the speckled gray gelding, reaching out to pat his neck. It was mid-morning, and, as promised, Mick was helping Hunter get ready to join the day's riding lesson. Hunter had risen at a decent time - not as early as everybody else, but early enough to grab a quick cup of coffee with Katie and confirm that they would pick up Jeff from the hospital this afternoon. He was able to help her with a few barn chores, and find a pair of cowboy boots to borrow, before splitting up for a while - he had his riding lesson, and he knew she probably would enjoy some time alone or with her family without him hanging around every moment. They'd catch up at lunch if not before, and though just a bit awkward still, Hunter knew he'd be okay finding his way around here and keeping himself busy.

"Hey there, Bonzai." Hunter greets the horse. "Where'd you pick up a name like that?"

Mick chuckles. "Well, when we got him, he wouldn't get out of the horse trailer. He somehow got himself turned around and went for a giant leap to get out. When he did, Sparky yelled 'Bonzai!' and it stuck."

Hunter laughs and continues rubbing the gelding's neck and chest, making the horse stretch out his head in pleasure. "Don't feel bad, big fella... I'm a little leery of trailers myself." He cocks his head then looks to Mick. "He's tall like a Thoroughbred, but he doesn't look like one."

"Naw, he's a mixture of who knows what. Sparky's the one that spotted him at an auction - I wasn't too keen on him, but Sparky insisted. No papers or anything, though I think you're right. I think he's got some Thoroughbred in him. He's to the hindquarters of a Mustang and the chest of a Morgan."

Hunter grins and moves his hands closer to Bonzai's head. "And the ears of an Arab."

"You've got a pretty good eye for a city slicker."

"Not really. I just remember when I'd visit my uncle, he had this whole shelf of horse books in his study. On rainy days, I'd go and read for hours then he'd quiz me on breeds and colors." Hunter shakes his head. "Never amounted to anything more than that, but it was fun at the time."

Mick studies Hunter's eyes for a moment before moving on past him. "Come on - let's find you a saddle."

It didn't take long to get tacked up. Hunter was proud of himself for remembering what he did, although Bonzai apparently liked to suck air, so tightening the saddle's girth was quite a task. Ready to go, Hunter leads him out to the paddock, following Mick.

Reaching the fenced-in area, Hunter pauses at the gate, his eyebrows lifting slightly. He wasn't sure why he'd had any preconceived ideas, but he couldn't help it that when Mick had invited him to the lesson, he hadn't thought about it being a kids' lesson. But already on their mounts were four kids waiting.

Mick sees the look on his face and hides a grin. "Ready, cowboy?"

"Uh..." Hunter clears his throat. "Yes, Sir. Ready as I'll ever be." Let into the corral, he leads Bonzai inside, checks the girth again, and mounts in one smooth motion.

Watching him, Mick is somewhat surprised. Even if Hunter had ridden as a kid, he showed very few signs of awkwardness - in the barn or out here. Mounting Remington, he takes his horse to the center and halts. "Everybody - we've got a new student with us today. Hunter, this is Tania, Sean, Jenny and Kristen."

Hunter smiles and waves at the kids, surmising their ages to be around ten to thirteen or so. Jenny giggled, but he wasn't sure why.

"Alright - walk on."

As the kids follow their cue, Hunter falls in at the rear of the line, trying to get himself comfortable in the saddle. Stretching his legs out a bit he shifts around before also fiddling with his reins. It all felt familiar yet strange... yet very fun. Bonzai's ears twitch at his movements, and every time he leaned, the horse would step to that side, obeying the cue that Hunter wasn't meaning to give.

"You look like a drunken sailor, Hunter," Mick calls. "Keep your mount in line."

Hunter straightens and does as he's told, feeling much like a school boy.

Jenny turns around in her saddle to look at him over her shoulder. "Mr. Henson sounds kinda mean, but he's not really."

"Ah..." Hunter grins and winks at her. "Thanks for the tip."

She giggles again before turning back around and paying more attention.

Hunter found himself treated like the other students, and sometimes felt as though Mick was assuming a whole lot more about his abilities than he'd said. He ended up walking, trotting, going in figure-eights, loping (albeit bouncily), backing up and a doing whole lot stopping and turning. At one point, he got the funny feeling that he was doing much more of taking his turn than the other kids, feeling their eyes on him more often than not. And almost every time he'd look over to Mick, he'd find him staring at him instead of the others. Was there something wrong? Was he doing a terrible job? Set on to another task, there was never time to ask.

As the hour lesson is called to a close, the kids all dismount and lead their horses to the barn to untack, hustling for their parents who waited at their cars.

"Gonna call it a day?" Mick steers Remington up next to Bonzai, tipping his hat back on his head.

Hunter give him a sidelong glance. "Unless you've got something else in mind." In truth, his legs had started to hurt half an hour ago.

"Well, I just thought maybe you'd want to do a few extra things - play around a bit, since the kids are gone."

"Oh. Like... what?"

Mick shrugs. "I'm partial to bareback riding."

Hunter blinks. Was this guy serious? He'd told Mick he'd ridden a bit as a kid and not since then. Now he'd already put him through more paces than he'd ever been put through - with a group of more experienced children, no less. And now he honestly wanted Hunter to attempt bareback riding? Was he trying to break his neck or what?

Staring Mick in the eye, he suddenly gets the strange feeling once again that he's being challenged. What was it about the guys here that they kept pushing him? Did they want to see him fall and make fun of him? Because he was a city slicker?

Dismounting and gritting his teeth to not groan in pain, Hunter hides his soreness as he undoes his saddle and lets it slide to the ground. Mounting bareback was a whole other story, and now that he was looking at Bonzai's back, he regretted his decision. But it was too late now. If he declined, he'd just be razzed.

Grabbing a chunk of mane, Hunter takes a swing and gets his foot just over Bonzai's hindquarters, but it's not enough. Sliding back down to the ground, he huffs, sizing up this task once more.

Mick grins as he dismounts Remington, also taking the saddle off. With one smooth jump, he's on the horse's back again, waiting while watching Hunter.

Hunter could feel Mick's eyes on him, and his jaw tightens with determination. Not only had Mick just totally shown off, but now he was waiting on him, making the pressure all the more worse. After four more attempts, Hunter's legs were just about ready to call it quits.

"You can use the fence," Mick suggests casually.

Hunter dares to throw him a glare. He might be a city slicker, but he was bound and determined to do this. Studying Bonzai once more, something new sparks in his mind. "Jump crescent kick," he mutters. Backing up a step, it would seem he starts with the wrong leg, but once he's airborne, he throws his other leg over Bonzai's back, landing just short of falling off the other side.

Mick laughs outright and claps his hands. "A little unorthodox, but it worked."

Hunter sits up straight and grins, rather proud of himself. "Thank you. The other guy just got kicked in the head."

"Pardon?"

"Nothing." Hunter rolls his eyes. "Karate."

"Ah, really? You any good?"

Hunter shrugs. "I'm okay." He'd rather not talk about that right now. Turning Bonzai around, he finds himself wobbling, forced to grip with his already-sore knees. He felt at any moment he was going to wind up on the ground again. And he did... three times... while trying to simply trot in a straight line like Mick. By the third time of picking himself up and dusting off his jeans while trying to pretend he felt fine, Bonzai's back seemed an impossible height to conquer.

Hiding a grin, Mick leans forward, resting his arm on Remington's neck as he watches Hunter mount up again... after another several tries. "Looks like it might be time to call it a day," he muses.

Hunter throws him a withering look and turns Bonzai around to walk slowly up to him and the other horse. Halting, he tries not to let the pain show on his face. "Call it a day? Already? I've only fallen off three times. I figured you had a goal of ten or something."

Mick withholds a laugh. "Why would I have a goal like that?"

"Well, I don't know, but ever since I got out here, you've been hiding a personal agenda of some sort, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is, unless you just like to see a guy make a complete idiot of himself."

Mick finally chuckles. "And here I thought you were having fun."

Hunter lowers his eyes a bit sheepishly. "I was... am... I guess I just bit off more than I could chew."

Mick is quiet until the younger man looks up at him again. "Sore?"

"You kidding me?" Hunter keeps his voice low. "I'm not sure I can walk after this."

Mick finally lets the laughter slip, and is quickly joined by Hunter laughing as well. "I'm sorry... it was mean of me to keep you out here."

"Naw, I deserved it for saying yes." Hunter sighs and pats Bonzai's neck. "I suppose I should swallow my pride now and call it quits."

"That isn't swallowing your pride." Mick urges Remington towards the gate. "That's just knowing when it's smart to stop."

Grinning, Hunter shakes his head and follows after him...

...It would be lunchtime soon. Yes, Hunter had said he'd meet up with Katie then. Soon. It would be time soon to go. Lunch.

No matter how many times he told himself that though, Hunter remained sprawled out on his bed, still dressed as he had been for riding. After getting back in the barn, he'd seen Jim struggling to get some horses out to the pasture so he'd helped with that, then somehow he'd wound up cleaning a couple stalls too. And now... well, he'd planned to take a shower but just hadn't made it that far yet. He really wasn't sure he could walk at all, let alone handle a slippery shower. But if he didn't get up quick, Katie was going to come looking for him.

One more minute of lying here... just one more minute...
