A disappointment seemed to sweep over the room dragging everyone down. Alice looked to Kyle feeling so bad. They had tried so hard and to denied was horrible. Looking down again Alice looks at her pad of paper just tapping the pen for a long moment.

But hearing Kyle talk again Alice looks up at him, the sound of his voice was so strong, it was easy to tell he meant what he said no matter who said yes or no.

As the music starts Alice can feel the rush that washed over her. The Band, Kyle Mitts, this...this was who they really were no matter who liked it and who didn't. Claping her hands together Alice's own excitement ran strong mixing with the bands.

The music started a die and even though she had only watched Alice's heart started racing a smile was on her face, Karla sitting so still next to her as well. Both turning slowly to look out the glass as Zeke and Tonya again, silence rained as the waited.

Letting out a loud whoop as the new they had been waiting for comes Karla didn't care where they were as she jumped from her chair running the short way to Kip and throwing her arms around his neck in a huge hug.

"You guys did it...I...cant believe it...I am going to be your manager and you...you guys are gonna be rock stars."

Standing the smile grows on Alice's face and though she didnt jump up and down her eyes twinkled with her own excitement as she made her way over to Kyle. Laying a hand on his shoulder she leans her head into his.

"Kyle, you guys did it..you guys made it."

Hearing David's words and feeling his hand on her face Angelica quirks an eyebrow for a moment completely clueless to what he was talking bout. But as David leans in closer to her Angelica soon seemed to understand what this was all about.

Feeling his lips brush to her Angelica is stunned, her own eyes falling shut not knowing what else to do...her lips seeming to part a little welcoming Davids kiss. The warmth of his lips just passing over her, so soft, so light.

As David pulls away Angelica still feels stunned...everything happened so fast, and she never had any idea that David though of her more. Hearing his plea for Angelica to come back to with him she didn't know what to say, and she felt all shaky on the inside, but something was different, something seemed off. There was no butterfly flutter, and there was no racing heart. There was only shock. David had road in to sweep her away, but...Angelica didn't want to leave.

Looking David in the eyes Angelica's own reflected emotions, and love but for someone other than David himself and she hated that in the long run maybe she had lead him on.

"I...I can't David. This is were I belong now, this is my home."

Though the kiss they had both sheared was nice, and it did indeed throw her for a loop it was not David's lips she wanted more of. There kiss, had given her the realization of who's lips she wanted pressed to her own.

"If I lead you on in anyway David I am so sorry. I feel like a total idiot, and your such a sweet guy someone maybe I could of grown close to once upon a time, but now...even if he doesn't know it, even if he never knows it my heart belongs to him. I love Mike Reese and thats what holds me here, and causes me to work late hours. I'm so sorry David."

Her eyes begged him not to be angry at her, she really did feel quite stupid right now. David was a stunning man with a lot to offer a woman. Maybe back a long time ago Angelica could of been that woman, but now..this this was her home.

Guilty

David can't help a grin as Angelica brings his face down to her level. But her kiss to his cheek just produces a sigh he can't contain, even though a small chuckle follows.

"Angelica... why do you torture me so? You've been doing it for years. Call me a fool for not giving up long ago. You really are something."

Just looking at her, he searches her eyes. Was she really so clueless? Did she really not see the look in his own eye that begged her to return his affection? He hadn't wanted a token peck on the cheek - was she toying with him? Brushing him off? Or just completely in the dark? He places his bet on the last one.

Leaning in closer to her, it's his turn to lift a hand, and it goes to cradle the side of Angelica's face, his warm palm caressing her soft cheek. "How many hints does a man have to drop?" he asks quietly. "I'm clean out, and all I have left is a blatant statement." He looks deeply into her eyes, searching them, wanting them. "I guess my plea is guilty... guilty of having you in my sights from day number one."

Cocking his head, he closes the gap between them, pressing his lips tenderly to hers. He doesn't force it and doesn't rush, but lets the kiss linger gently with a warm passion. Pulling back, his hand his still on her cheek. "Come back with me," he begs softly. "When this is all over, come back with me to California."

"They don't like us," Theo blurted in disbelief, breaking the strange silence. "I can't believe it."

Erik blinked. They'd all been so hyped up and so hopeful... it seemed too sudden to realize just now that the band wasn't liked. Their whole future was riding on this one day.

Twila bit her lip and looked at the rest of the band, then down to Alice and Karla, searching for some reassurance. Russ ran a hand over his face and paced a little, his guitar still hanging from his shoulder. Kip sat back on his stool, feeling his shoulders sagging. There was no doubt. Just looking back and seeing Tanya and Zeke conversing, the blindest person could see that they were seconds away from telling them thanks but no thanks.

Kyle gives Alice a last look, something changing in his eyes. Maybe it was realization. Maybe it was determination. Maybe it was even a bit of craziness. Spinning back around, he points to Theo. "Click us off for More to Life."

Theo looks at him, dumbfounded. "What? Our two songs are over, man."

"I don't care, click us off or I will."

Erik's eyebrows rise. "Kyle, what are you doing? More to Life isn't what I'd call easy listening."

"That's just it." Kyle holds out his hands and looks around at all the others. "We came at this all wrong, don't you see? We were too scared to be ourselves."

"But we didn't want to scare them off," Russ argues.

"Why not?" Kyle shakes his head. "Sure, we came at it thinking we better behave and play nice. Why wouldn't we? It seems logical. But these guys aren't looking for what's already out there. Sure, we gave the first song our twist, but face it - it was an old song. And Remind Me... It's great for a mid-concert lull, but these guys are obviously looking for something more. Something different. They're looking for us, and we haven't yet given us to them."

Twila isn't so sure, and she squints a little. "I don't know, Kyle... maybe we're too different for them. That's what we were trying to avoid."

"Well what on earth do we have to lose now?" Kyle counters. "If you wanna back out now, Twila, go ahead. The stairs are in front of you. But I'm going to show them who we are whether they asked for it or not." He looks to Theo again. "You gonna click us off or am I gonna have to stand here and do this myself?"

Shaking his head, Theo finally grins and holds up his drumsticks. "They don't even have the sound system on, you know?"

Kyle smiles from ear to ear. "Then we'll just have to play loud."

Tonya and Zeke had just turned their mic back on to speak to the band again, when suddenly, they're met with music. Confused and looking a bit displeased, Zeke finally switches on the sound so they could at least hear what was going on.

The band started up again, this time in full swing. Kyle's hands flew down his keyboard, his voice coming in at just the right time.

You look both ways before you cross the street and,
You make sure you're not late.
You kiss your mama goodbye just like you know you oughta,
You know better than to make a debate.

But you're tired.
You think you're doin' everything right.
But you're tired.
You doin' all that you been taught.
Hey, hey, hey!

Twila's and Kip's voice join in to harmonize the backup vocals on this song that Kyle had written only a month before. It was upbeat. It was full of energy and it was different. Twila's electric violin sang amidst the other instruments, giving the song an edge that was unique to them. Kyle's voice was stronger than ever, passion flowing through him.

There's more to life than eatin' your veggies,
There's more than you can see.
Some people like it livin' under a bushel,
But you gotta believe there's something more out there.
There's more to life than keepin' your manners,
There's more than you been shown.
Some people like to camp out in their own boxes,
But you gotta believe there's something more out there.
You gotta believe there's something more out there.
Hey, hey, hey!

Kyle jumps up and down just as if they were playing to a concert of hundreds instead of just two in the back row. Giving up the keyboard, he grabs his mic and wanders across the stage, bouncing and totally ignoring Tonya and Zeke, but pointing directly to Alice - his most valued audience.

You take your quarter put it in the parking meter and,
You wave to the kid on the bike.
You never got a ticket driving up to see your grandma,
You gave six dollars to the guy with bad luck.

But you're tired.
You think you've got it all down pat.
But you're tired.
You're living just like they told you how.
Hey, hey, hey!

Back to the keyboard, Kyle's energy doesn't cease. Sweat ran down the sides of his face as the others follow suit, playing their heart out. Whether Tonya and Zeke liked them or not, they were playing their hearts out.

Livin' like a robot isn't gonna get you nowhere.
Livin' like a droid just isn't gonna win the game
You gotta love in your heart,
Have faith in the unseen,
You gotta give your life away to the One who gave it to ya.
Hey, hey, hey!

The intentional abrupt stop to the music creates a deathly echo in the room as a sudden silence takes over. Everyone was breathing heavily, hearts pounding. And Kyle looks with defiance to the back, staring straight into the eyes of Tonya and Zeke. His body language seemed to say, 'Try that on for size.'

The two agents exchange glances, and Tonya leans over to hit the mic, hesitating before she spoke through the speakers. "Kyle Mitts... and the rest of you..." She looks back to Zeke, then back to the band. "Why on earth did you show us that in the first place? You guys are awesome."

"Yes!" Kip throws up his hands and Theo's drumsticks go flying. Erik's eyes widen and he and Russ do a little happy dance right there on the stage.

Tonya can't help a little laugh. "Settle down, guys. I don't know what we can offer you, but take off your gear and come to the office so we can talk it over."

Chatter erupts as instruments are shed and a few whoops of excitement are let out. But amidst the fun, Kyle is still standing behind his keyboard, silent. He's leaning on the keyboard, his head bent, seeming to be completely set apart from the rest of the band.

There sound...

Dan rolls his own eyes giving a chuckle before putting his gloves into his back pocket. That would be the last thing Dylan needed to do before he was done, So Dan felt he couldn't show him anything else.

Turning he heads back to what was was doing wanting to finishing up polishing the horse equipment before he want to look for Jade.

Giving a laugh Angelica gives a little nod of her head. She remembered the victory dinners they use to have all the time. It was always nice to celebrate there achievements.

"If we want it to be like old times than yes, just the two of us."

Raising an eyebrow as David moves closer Angelica couldn't help but wonder what on earth he was doing. But hearing his comment it answers her question and she can't help but laugh once again turning her head to look at him.

"Your a ham you know that!"

Bringing her one had to the side of David's face Angelica brings it twords her and press her lips to his cheek letting them linger for a long moment before pulling away and letting her hand fall.

"There you go, your kiss."

Nodding her head to the music Alice listens. The band sounded better than ever today to her. Nerves were running high today but for some reason Alice felt that that just added to the great sound.

Holing her note pad in her lap she would look down taking a few notes, or raising her camera to take a few pictures here and there to add her her new article that would be published.

Sitting with Alice Karla felt a little out of place, but at the same time so very excited to be here. Her eyes never left Kip as she took in the music and listened. The worlds and the music were all so nice, but what amazed Karla even more was how Kips hands moved up and down the neck of the base guitar. Hitting every not perfect, it was truly an amazing talent.

As the music stops though Alice and Karla look at each other before looking to Zeke and Tonya and than back to the band. How could they not like the sound? There were amazing and on there top game tonight. There was no way they could say no....right?

Worry

Dylan follows Dan down to the straw and hay, understanding now which was which. Hearing Dan's little rhyme, he looks up at him with a lame look. "Cute," he replies dryly. "Do you have poems to remember everything?"

Something close to a grin turns up the corner of his mouth and he shakes his head. "I think I got it... without the rhyme." Grabbing a bale of straw by its twine, he hefts it up and carries it back towards the stalls.

David's eyes brighten a little bit at the suggestion of a dinner after they'd won their case. "Mmm... now that sounds like a good idea."

He slides a little closer. "Just the too of us?"

A grin curves his mouth. "You gonna give me that kiss for my timing perfection?"

Looking in the rearview mirror,
The past is quickly fading.
Winding roads, worn out signs,
Lights blurred by the speed.

I don’t know how I began,
I don’t know where it started.
I don’t know where this journey ends,
Or how I got so far.

Remind me of my origins,
Remind me why I’m here.
Remind me how I’ve come to know,
This love. This love.
Remind me.

Kyle's voice rings out clear and crisp as his fingers move along his keyboard. The band was sounding good. They'd arrived at the studio not long before, meeting Gary who had introduced them to Tonya and Zeke who were now in the back sound booth behind glass, listening through their sound system.

The band had done well, even though they all were nervous. Their first song had gone smoothly as they'd chosen a popular song to add their own little flare. Moving on to Remind Me, their tone was a little quieter, the mellow tones enough to sooth a weary soul.

Glancing back over my shoulder,
The past is quickly fading.
Twisting paths, broken bridges,
Circumstances dim.

I don’t know how I began,
I don’t know where this started.
I don’t know where this journey leads,
Or how I got so far.

Remind me of my origins,
Remind me why I’m here.
Remind me how I’ve come to know,
This love. This love.
Remind me.

Kyle looks out to see Alice and smiles as he sings, so glad that she was there. She'd been introduced as decided - a vital part of the band. As had been Karla as well.

Kip's fingers move along his bass guitar, his eyes glancing down into the couple rows of chairs in front of the platform to find Karla. A grin creases his lips. They were actually here, and this was their break. Tonya and Zeke had to like them - there was no way they couldn't.

My rearview mirror reveals the past,
A past that’s quickly fading.
I can’t see ‘round the bends of time,
I can’t see why I’m here.
But You’re still here behind the wheel,
And You know who I am.

Remind me of my origins,
Remind me why I’m here.
Remind me how I’ve come to know,
This love. This love.
Remind me.

This love. Your love.
Remind me.

Before the notes could even die away, Tonya waved through the glass and cut the sound system, speaking into her own mic. "Thanks, guys. You can cut it there. Be with you in five."

The band stops the music, all of them looking at each other with dread. Tonya's voice did not sound impressed. They thought they'd done well. They'd played clean and clear and they'd sounded good... hadn't they?

Smiles fade as they look at each other with worry. Kyle's eyes find Alice's as he gives her an uneasy glance. He looks back to the window to see Tonya and Zeke talking and shaking their heads. His eyes go back to Alice. They'd all be so sure... so confident. And they'd sounded good. Why were the agents unhappy with them? He didn't understand, and he felt like he was letting the band down.

I could kiss you

Giving a smile Dan payed no comment to Dylan's complaining though he did listen to him to hear what he was saying. Dylan would have to find his own nitch in doing things to make it easyer on him but at least no he had a guideline to follow to help.

"We are all misfits in one way or another. I think your dad still hates me."

Dan takes off his own gloves pulling the bandanna from his pocket and wiping his face with it. It was on the warmer side today but it felt good after the cold spell.

Hearing Dylan's comment about the straw and hay Dan smiles again giving a small wave to follow him as he walks to where two differnt stack of straw and hay were. Taking a peace hay Dan hands it to Dylan.

"This here is hay. Its green in color so its easy to tell apart from the straw. Horses eat the hay, its used as feed, and can consist of clovers or alfalfa..."

Moving back a few steps Dan picks up some straw and hands it to Dylan as well.

"Straw is thicker, tougher and a golden color. This is used for there bedding not to eat. So an easy way to remember is...Green means its good to eat and golden brown is bad to eat but good to sleep."

"David you are amazing, and right on time too, I could kiss you for your perfect timing. I just finished composing all this evidence we can use in the case."

Angelica look over her computer screen at David Angelica gives a wide smile. It did feel good working with him again. She'd never say anything, or want to change it but it got a little lonely not having a partner to work with like old times.

Feeling a little color come to her cheeks at Davids comment her eyes sparkled a little as she continued to look at David giving a little nod.

"Good byes always do suck, I really have enjoyed working on this case with you. We are going to have to have a celebration dinner before you go back home. Maybe find a nice place were we can dress up and just have a nice meal and some drinks like in the old days."

Careening off into the ditch

Though he worked grudgingly, it was surprising that Dylan didn't give Dan any lip about continuing the work. He accepted the help, though not saying much, and tried to get it right, mainly so he wouldn't be here for a week just trying to clean up after his own spills. Most of it made sense. Some of it he knew he'd have to find his own way to do since he wasn't as tall or strong as Dan, but overall the tips helped some.

Starring at the wheelbarrow, Dylan shakes his head. "Too far away and I knock the thing over. Too close and I run my shins into it. Those things are the most dang blasted things I've ever worked with."

Sighing, he folds his arms and looks at Dan, realizing that he really did sound ridiculous. "Yeah well... maybe a few times to the manure pile and at least I'll master it enough to not go careening off into the ditch somewhere. I'd probably land in the mess myself and no one would ever find me." He smirks a little, his eyes. "Not that anybody would care. I'm the misfit that everybody knows should be in juvie."

Dylan shakes his head and takes off his gloves to flex his sore fingers. He'd worked hard before, but not like this. How on earth did his sister actually enjoy this kind of thing?

Glancing around at the stalls, he sighs again. "I guess I need clean straw, right? If I leave this half done, I'll wind up with a tongue lashing again and I'm really not in the mood." He looks at Dan again, really not liking asking for help, but feeling better about asking Dan than anybody else. "I don't... know the difference between hay and straw," he admits. "But I do know if I put the wrong one down, I'll get a kick to the butt along with the tongue lashing."

Around the corner, no one saw that Jade had entered the barn. She'd been listening quietly and watching Dan and Dylan interact. She couldn't help the surprise she felt. Dylan was actually... talking to Dan. He was kinda grouchy, but he was actually conversing and staying relatively calm, despite complaining. That was more than she'd seen since he'd gotten here. Maybe there was hope after all.

"Ohhhh I am so good." David leans back in his chair and hangs up the phone, spreading his arms behind his head and grinning at Angelica. It had been another long work day, but today had been worth it.

"He agreed to bump up the hearing to this week instead of next month. So...." He takes up some papers and shuffles them around. "Looks like we got some evidence to present."

This was what he loved... success and winning the battles one at a time. "Gunner's gonna be thrilled. Now all we have to do is work on the temporary insanity plea. We got Bree taken care of and JT never had to get involved, so looks like Gunner's the only thing we gotta focus on."

He nods with satisfaction, looking over to Angelica again. "I can taste victory, but this time it will be bittersweet. I'll have to say goodbye to my favorite partner again and that's no fun at all."

Explnation

Giving a small chuckle and standing with Leo Cassy nods a little. Now she had something to look forward to this weekend rather than just spending the time alone doing nothing.

"This weekend sounds great. Thanks Leo."

Walking with Leo to the door Cassy didn't want the laughter to end but she new it had too. It was getting late, and they both needed bed. She'd see him again for sure this weekend.

"Dinner was no trouble. Felt good to cook again. Have a great night Leo."

Giving a wave and watching him pull out of the parking lot Cassy stands in the door way even after the tail lights are gone. Letting out a small sigh and taking in a deep breath of air Cassy finally goes back inside. Dishes awaited her, and than a little relaxation before bed.

Looking down at the young man Dan could see the pain that lied behind his eyes. There was a deeper pain there that was hard for anyone to see but Dan did take note to it.

Giving a light chuckle Dan still leans on the shovel for a long moment as he contemplates his own answer.

"Yeah Mick can be a hard butt thats for sure. I've had the blunt end of his words a few times myself. Taking some getting use to but in time you do, and you just realize thats Mick and he is only trying to do whats best. Even if we don't see it."

Pushing off the shovel and starting to throw some of the manure and hay into the barrel again Dan is quiet for a long moment before turning to Dylan once more.

"When you hold your shovel try holding it firmer in your hands. The less it slides around the less chance you will get blisters. Don't get me wrong though your hands will still hurt, and you will get rough spots on your hand but non of those annoying bubbles."

Handing Dylan his shovel back Dan shows him how to grip the handle tight, and where to but his hands.

"You also are gonna want to lift with your legs not your back. Last thing you wanna feel is turning the wrong way and throwing something out of wack."

Continuing to work helping Dylen its not time before the wheel barrel is full again. Though still stuck where Dylan had the problem before it was full, and the last stall cleaned. Putting his shovel down and moving close to the wheel barrel Dan explains once more.

"When your moving the wheel barrel your going to want to grip both the hands closer to the base like this..."

Dan does a quick demonstration.

"..It gives you more leverage and control on if the barrel will tip or not. Here, you try."

Dan steps out of the way to let Dylan try to push the wheel barrel the way he showed him.

Nobody else

Leo chuckles and nods to Cassy. "Yeah... yeah I can help fix 'er up for ya. Won't take but maybe a new board, some nails and a bit of paint. We could fix the trim around the windows at the same time too, if you wanted."

Tapping a finger on the table, he finally gets up, knowing that if he didn't, he'd stay too long. "I got the weekend off... so I'll give you a call for when we can do that."

Hooking his hands in his pockets he cocks his head at Cassy, smiling a little. "Thanks for supper, Cass. It was nice."

Dylan doesn't move as Dan approaches to start helping clean up. Hearing the offer, he quirks an eyebrow, a scowl still on his face. "The only thing that would make this easier is to get Mick Henson off my back," he grumbles.

Sighing with discontent, he stands up anyway and shrugs lamely. "Go for it. Nobody else wants to teach me how to do anything."
