Hate

Though he wanted to, Gage found Sapphire's words almost hard to believe. He saw the righteous anger flash in her eyes, and his heart skips a beat. She really... cared?

Having her sit on his lap, his arms automatically move around her waist. Though having just said that maybe they should slow down, that's not what he really wanted. He didn't want to leave Sapphire at all. She was his only friend, and the only person he cared anything for, more than just a friend. But what if Scott had been right?

Watching her eyes, Gage blinks once, taken aback by her bold and passionate words. Not only did she care, but she was standing up for him... defending him. No one had done that for him before - at least not like this. And she was willing to risk it all? He'd thought she cared, but... but this much?

Before he can even try to respond, her lips have enveloped his own. Though his mind screamed at him to stop right now and be logical and realistic, his heart had other ideas. And it seemed his body was more attached to his heart than his mind.

Returning Sapphire's kiss, Gage's eyes close and his arms tighten around her, closing the gap between them. He was upset over this whole thing, but somehow she had a way of chasing the rainclouds away and making him remember that he had something to be proud of, and that he really was worth something, despite his past.

A deep, long kiss was the only thing Gage could think of to show Sapphire how much her words meant to him. He didn't know what would happen now, but she made him feel wanted, and worth the effort - and that in itself was worth a lifetime of kisses just like this one.

Eventually releasing his hold, Gage draws back slightly, his heart still thumping and his breath shallow. He looks Sapphire in the eye as she still sat on his lap. "I was told to let you go and walk away," he mentions in almost a whisper. "I was told to not shame your name with my past. But you... you're so different... to care, even now, even when you know me better than anyone else."

He lifts a hand to cradle the side of Sapphire's warm face. His thumb runs gently along her cheek. "But I don't know how to say no to the world. It's bigger than I am."

Scott lamely accepts the icepack, placing it on his sore head. Looking at the floor, he takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly in an attempt to calm his nerves. "My mind... that's what's been bothering me. All the bits and pieces that don't belong there... they're just.... there and I can't get rid of them, and they pile up and spew into my thoughts when I don't want them to. I have no control over them."

Just staying on the floor, he leans back against the desk, leaving the Mountain Dew mess for now. "I thought I got rid of the Agency, Dalton. When I finally got over being scared of my own shadow, I thought it was over. But every time I see Phinox or Alec or... or even Carson... it's like, all the data flashes in front of my eyes and for a split second, I'm back with the Agency, hooked up to all their computers and screaming as the data is forced into my mind."

Swallowing hard, Scott just stops for several moments. He hadn't told anyone about this, not even Hope. He didn't like talking about the Agency - one, because it ripped open old scars, and two, because if any authority thought he was out of control, he could still be taken off the Elite as a security risk.

"I hate them...." He'd never said it out loud before, but as he does, the bitter, raw anger is proven. "I hate them, Dalton. I hate what they did to me and I hate everyone who is a part of them. It make me sick, thinking of how many people they've got out there, thriving on the fear of others. I don't want to hate people I know like Phinox or Carson, but I can't help it that every time I see them, it's like their pasts are an open book, read to me whether I want it or not. Their personnel files are in my head and I know their jobs and what they did and my mind just reminds me of it over and over like a broken record."

Removing the ice pack, Scott touches his head gingerly. "And I hate them for what they did to me. They stole a part of my life that I'll never get back, no matter how much braver I am now. So I'm not scared of my own shadow... great... but now a part of them is a part of me and I can't get rid of it."

Glaring at the ice in his hand, it had never done anything to him, but it was better than glaring at his big friend. His tone comes out as frozen as the pack. "And now one of those creeps is going after my sister. And I hate him for it too."

"Nah... not much new." Axel shakes his head as he and Jess start in on their meal. He takes a sip of Pepsi and shrugs. "She said it might be a while yet, but she wants me here until she can see what the surgery is going to do. So far my hand still hurts, so that's a good thing. But Misty reminded me that not only are we working with nerves, but I haven't used my hand in so long, that my muscles will need some therapy to be retrained again too."

Taking a bite of food, he can't help a little sigh. "I know it's God's timing... I just wish He moved a little faster sometimes."

*Gulp*

Listing to Gage once more Sapphire could feel her blood run cold as her heart race picked up, she almost felt a little shaky to and for that she wasn't sure of the anger or betrayal she felt. She new who put this in Gage's head. The only person who he had been with alone today, and the one person he didn't want to take lessons from anymore. She'd deal with her brother late for now, she had to try and rebuild everything that was now broken. She new her voice was upset but not at Gage, at her own blood, her own twin.

"Reminded you your what Gage? A man who has someone that they take interest in? A man who is trying to get his life back? A man who has come so far that to turn back now would be a crime worse than your own past. Your not part of the Agency anymore, and what of them that was once in you is no longer there Gage. Our past does not define us, it molds us, or past isn't who we are. Its our actions now that matter."

Shifting a little Sapphire turns to see Gage a little better. Moving a tiny bit closer to him her eyes seemed to have a fire in them. Anger, passion, love, hate, compassion, comfort...they glowed in the dark, maybe alluring for some, yet dangerous for others.

"My job puts me in danger of the Agency every day. To back away, to leave what my heart desires because The Agency is out there, than I would leave my whole life behind and I am not willing to do that."

Moving on the bed again Sapphire gets to her knees before lifting her one leg and putting it over top of Gage till one was on each side. Her arms sliding behind his neck so she could look at him straight on. Her heart raced and her blood pumped through her veins.

"If the Agency is going to hunt you down, than let them come. I wont back away. You can push me away, and you can try to leave me behind but I will be there every moment Gage. You think the Agency is bad when they find something they want, well I am worse. I wont throw you to the wolves. No matter what my brother or anyone else says. If they don't want to see the side of you I do, than its there loss. Jamie saw it, and so did Con thats proof that I am not alone in my desition."

Leaning closer to Gage Sapphire brings her one hand to the back of Gage's head as the other rests on his chest. Letting her lips brush over his for a moment than drawing away just a little she whispers.

"I am better off with you because to deny what my heart wants is a worse crime than all those of your past."

Bringing her lips to Gage's again Sapphire pressed them firmly to his. Letting the passion she felt wash over her and all she felt just come forth. Retreating for a moment Sapphire turns her head the other way only to return to the kiss once more.

Trouble

Gage refuses to look up, even though he wanted to. He really didn't know what to say. Sapphire could see right through him, and it wasn't fair. He knew that they didn't lie to each other though, and he'd just broken that. But what else was he supposed to say?

Sighing, he mulls over all of the words that were running through his mind. None seemed to fit. He couldn't just tell her what had happened outright. It would only make things worse. He'd done enough damage the way it was.

"I just... I guess I was reminded of who I am." He shrugs lamely. "And... someone like you deserves a friend who's more than someone who has a past like mine. The Agency will hunt for me and... being around you just puts you in danger too and it's not fair."

He pauses, finally brave enough to turn his head and look at Sapphire's eyes. There was something in his own gaze that said he was sorry. That said someone had convinced him that he really should not be friends with her. That he was unworthy. That it wasn't worth the risk.

"You'd be better off... without me hanging around, and it's the truth. I don't want to start any trouble."

Immune

Continuing to watch Gage, Sapphire could see the signs all over. Even in the dark she had the keen eye to read his face, his eyes, every thing that pointed to him not being truthful to her. It was almost like steps were taken in the backwards direction and not forwards.

"Gage, you relize people have been using that excuse for ages? I think I have built and immunity to it. Not to mention we are hardly even moving so if we slow down anymore, its gonna be a complete stop we come to and I certainly don't want that."

Moving to come onto the bed with him Sapphire just sits next to him leaning against the wall. Why had he tried to lie to her? What had happened today to have caused that.

"I can read your eyes even when your not looking at me Gage. We don't lie to each other remember? You be truthful with me, and I be completely truthful with you about anything. So lets try again...What happened today Gage?"

Sapphire's voice was very pashent with Gage, no irritation or disappointment shown through. She had the pashents, she had the understanding and she would wait.

Watching his friend once more Dalton can see the irritation, and it was clear things were not right even when Scott said they were. About to say something more to him Dalton stops as Scott slammed his head on the desk. Cringing a little he could feel the pain himself run through him.

As Scott sinks to the floor Dalton sits forward in the chair and takes the ice pack from the fridge. Something they both used much so figured it was best to have a supply if there own. Stretching his arm out to hand the ice pack to Scott Dalton leans his arms on his legs.

"Whats been bothering you Scott?"

Giving a laugh Jess sits down on the bed with the food a smile on her face. Leaning in she gives Axel a hello kiss before bringing the bag up and taking out two containers Jess puts one in front of each of them, Pepsi for the drink. Helping Axel get comfortable, prayers were said and dinner could start when they were ready.

"Well...actually it wasn't that interesting. I developed a bunch of pictures, helped make up a few Christmas gifts for people and than I sat around all day doing nothing. I guess it was just a slow day."

Opening the Styrofoam container that held the food Jess gives a big whiff as her stomach growled.

"What about you? Did Misty say anything else about your hand today?"

Suspicious reasoning

Gage's eyes flicker, but they're still aimed at the floor. He can feel heat rising up the back of his neck and into his face, hoping that Sapphire couldn't see it in the darkness of the living room.

"No." He pauses to swallow. "I mean..." His hands fidget some more as he recalls the words that were said to him earlier in the day. They had ended with the understanding that he was not to say one word about the conversation.

"No... I just... I got to thinking and..." His own words sting himself. "...and thought maybe we should... you know... slow down a little."

Scott doesn't even react to Dalton's tease about the desk. On a normal day, he would have thought it funny and probably would have had his own comeback. But tonight it felt like his humor had been sucked dry.

"Everything is fine," he replies sharply as he continues to mop up the spilled drink. "Just fine. You'd be agitated too if-" He bites his tongue from finishing that statement.

Lifting up the papertowels, he swivels on his knees to stand up, but with his blind eye to the desk, he had miscalculated the distance. His head whacks the blunt corner of the desk hard enough to make the computer monitors shake.
Howling with frustration, he sinks all the way to the floor, holding the side of his head. A perfect ending to a perfect day. Just sitting still, he tries to stop the throbbing. "No, everything is not fine," he mutters. "I'm losing my mind, Dalton."

Ryder can't help the laugh that erupts at Thirteen's question. Moving to her, he pulls her into a bear hug. "You can hold my hand whenever you want."
He kiss the top of her head and rocks her teasingly. "Let's go warm up leftovers for supper. I have a feeling Katie will be home late."

Though Jade's eyes were closed, her mind was far from sleep. She felt so comfortable here... with Dan. From day one, she'd felt comfortable with him and it hadn't changed. Could she really have these deep feelings for him? Was it more than just a temporary thing? In her heart, the answer was yes. She just felt... differently with him than she'd felt with anyone else. She'd follow him anywhere - it was that simple. Leaving him for only a few hours made her miss him. Thinking of being gone for a week was torture. She never tired of his company. She never tired of his attention or his kisses or feeling his arms around her. Yes... she was in love with him and it was the best feeling ever. She could only hope that he felt the same for her.

A smile comes to her lips. "Don't tell me I can stay here... I might end up falling asleep on you."

Axel laughs, a little color coming to his face as he sets his book aside. "I'm always decent."

Smirking, he sits up straighter, making room for Jess to sit with him on the bed if she wanted. "Mmm... food smells good. I guess I didn't realize how hungry I was."

Situating the pillow under his hand, he draws his legs up to sit Indian-style. "So how was your day? More exciting than mine, I hope."

After

Starting to put a few of the gifts under the tree Sapphire gives a small laugh about her brother knowing about cars. He always was the smart one when it came to that stuff. Sure Sapphire could find her way around with the small things and new how to drive, but if you really wanted to learn everything inside and out, Scott was the right person.

"He always did catch on to things faster than I did. I can drive, change the oil, and tell when something is differnt but it ends there for me. I am sure he will continue to be able to teach you after work. Learning from the best of the best is smart."

Stopping for a moment letting Gage's next sentence sink in. Hearing the tone in his voice Sapphire could tell something just wasn't right. It was almost like his first day with her all over again, he was quiet, and didn't look at her at all.

"Gage, Did something happen today? Just...something doesn't seem right."

Dalton sat at his desk half watching his computer screen and half keeping an eye on Scott. Over the last few week, and than again today he has been noticing something different with him. What it was he wasn't sure but it seemed like he was more on edge and his anger was flaring. That alone was defiantly something not like Scott.

As the thud of the can hits the floor and the slam of the desk Dalton finally turns from the computer full on to see his friend. He really was only doing some extra stuff for Angelica anyways. It could wait for now.

Not saying anything for a moment Dalton just watches him as a little bit of worry hits his eyes. Scott had been doing so well over the last months, and if something was truly wrong Hope would have seen it right? But there defiantly was something that didn't sit well with him.

"You better take it easy on the desk there it has feelings too you know!"
Sitting up a little straighter in his chair Dalton new his humor was flat, but he guessed Scott should be use to that by now. He almost always cracked jokes to his friend trying to work on making them better even though he failed over and over again.

"Everything ok? You seem a little more agitated than normal."

A smile spreads on Thirteen's face again as she looks up at Ryder. Her eyes meet his and a warm feeling runs through her veins. For the first time, Ryder needed her as much as she needed him and it made her feel good. Giving a little nod she would agree.

"Ok, its a deal but..even after the plane ride can we hold hands too?"

As Jade leans into him Dan once again wraps his arms around her. One over her shoulder and the other around her wast. Once more her words that she wanted to say here with him sinking in. Did she really fall for him this fast?

"Mmm...You can use me for a pillow for a while if you like. Your keeping that half of my body warm."

Leaning his head down Dan kiss the top of Jade's head. The smell of her soft perfume filling his nose and tangoing with his senses. Forever was a long time and he has almost had it once. Was he really ready to be saying those words again? Dan new the answer to that question without even asking it.

Making her way through TJY Jess had no problem remembering where the extra bedroom was. She had spent much time there herself and would always remember its placing. Giving a small knock Jess opens the door and pops her head in a smile spread across her face.

"I hope you decent because I got Boston Market and I was way to hungry to go right back out this door again!!"

Different evenings

Gage looks up quickly at Sapphire. Yawning, he feigns having been asleep. He had no other legit reason for not rising when she'd come to the door. "Hi."

Managing to sit up on his mattress, Gage doesn't return Sapphire's light affection but goes straight into responding to her questions. "It went okay. Your brother knows what he's doing when it comes to cars all right."

Looking down, he picks at a loose thread around the hole in his jeans where his bare knee was visible. "I think maybe... our schedules aren't gonna work out too well though so I might try to find someone else to keep going with me until I get my license."

Gage rips loose the thread, snapping it from his jeans. He tries to move on quickly to another subject. "Pizza sounds good. I'm... I'm kinda tired though... so.... I don't know about.... a movie." All the while, his eyes are down, unwilling to look up at Sapphire.

Scott squints at his computer monitor, trying to solve the problem. Reese had called him back from Texas a day earlier than he'd wanted, he was having trouble with the files needed - along with a network problem,  his mother was bugging him about Christmas dinner and who all was gonna be there and what to bring, he wasn't looking forward to the family get-together, it was late, he had a headache and he just wanted to go home. But if he just went home, Reese wouldn't get what he wanted, and he'd be in the doghouse.

An error message pops up for the sixth time. Giving an uncharacteristic growl of frustration, Scott slams his keyboard tray shut and just glares at the screen. Rubbing his throbbing forehead, he tries to block out the images that were flying through his head more rapidly lately. He'd thought he'd be rid of them once his system calmed down and he settled back into life after the Agency. But the last few weeks, it had just been getting worse. He'd always disliked the Agency. But lately it had turned into a pure hatred like nothing else. Every time he saw someone connected with the Agency, that anger flared. Whether it was Alec, Phinox, Gage or Carson, it didn't matter. It was becoming a nightmare all over again.

Turning to retrieve some papers, his arm knocks into his open can of Mountain Dew, sending it onto the floor with a thud and fizz. It was rare that he lost his temper, but this was the last straw. Standing up, he kicks the desk drawer shut and mutter's a word under his breath that he never dared. Grabbing some paper towels from the nearby cabinet, he kneels on the floor, trying to sop up the mess without disturbing Dalton any more than he already had.

Ryder gives Thirteen a gentle smile as he leans back against the washing machine and folds his arms. "It's okay. I don't much like planes myself. But it'll save a lot of time and hassle. Crashes happen... but not nearly as often as car wrecks and the Elite pilot is a good one."

He cocks his head, making sure Thirteen understood that being scared wasn't something to be ashamed of. "You and I will get to sit together," he adds. "You can hold my hand if you let me hold yours."

Jade smiles back at Dan, slight color coming to her cheeks. Leaning her head into his hand, she closes her eyes and sighs deeply, just enjoying this time. "I don't want to leave tomorrow," she admits. "I just want to stay here... with you."

Opening her eyes again, she sets aside some of the wrapping paper so she can move in closer to Dan again. Bringing her legs up on the couch, she curls them under and smooths out her skirt before leaning her head down to rest on Dan's chest with his arm around her. It was weird, thinking that she wouldn't see her brother this Christmas. And she had hoped to spend part of it with her father too, but now that wasn't even going to happen. She wondered if the McClain's would have a celebration of their own for people staying there.

Nuzzling in a little more, Jade wraps her arm around Dan's waist. "Can you be my pillow?" she teases. "You're awfully comfortable."

Axel sits up on the spare bed, one knee close to his chest to balance the book he was reading. His left hand held open the pages as he read the words, passing the time in the evening. Misty had been keeping an eye on him the last couple days, but until they knew for sure the diagnosis of his hand, he would remain here.

So far, his hand was still in pain, but it was a good thing that the feeling had lasted this long after the surgery. Still wrapped, his right hand rested on a pillow at his side as he made a conscious effort not to move it around too much. Misty had worked a little with him today to see if he could move any of his fingers, but he hadn't been able to. She'd assured him that it was still too early to tell, so he was trying to remain hopeful.

The quiet of the room didn't bother him much. He enjoyed quietness more than most people. Even so, he still looked forward to Jess' visits. She'd said she had to work late tonight, but would bring supper over afterward, so he was content with reading until she showed up.

2/4/10

Emotions

Watching Ryder closely as he pushes the buttons on the washer and how much soap he put in so maybe one day she could try and surprise him by doing it herself. Last time she trued she shrunk most of the clothing.

Thinking about Ryder's question for a moment. Sometimes it was hard to remember the past and everything that happened with the Agency but if she thought hard enough she could. Finally giving a shake of her head she gives a small smile as a little worry laced her eyes. She'd seen planes before and the looked scary.

"Not that I can remember, but...I've read about plane crashes and stuff, its kind of scary looking."

Thirteen didn't like admitting something still bothered or scared her but it was better letting him know than for her to get upset and just shut down. She new Ryder would never make fun of her for it ether but help her get over her fear.

Seeing the look on Jade's face as she opened her gift Dan's eyes sparkled and the smile on his face grew even bigger. It felt good to know Jade liked the gift he had given her, and it made him feel good, that she felt good.

Helping her put the bracelet on Dan thought she looked amazing. The glitter of the bracelet casting little colors on her face and making her eyes stand out even more.

"Your very welcome. I am happy you like them."

Now being his turn to open his gift Dan takes the package gently. Removing the gloves and the belt Dan's eyes light up. Seeing his named engraved on the belt his fingers  run over it. That in itself was so special to him, certinly something special that no one else had given him before. Looking back in the bag and pulling out the CD and Book Dan chuckles and smile.

"I didnt think you would have remembered I wanted these."

Placing the book and CD back in the bag Dan holds the gloves and belt again for a long moment. These items had Jade's love in them, they meant the world to him. Looking up at her his eyes glisten.

"Thank you Jade so much. I love them."

Reaching out Dan push a peace of hair that had fallen out of place behind her head as his fingers linger there her thumb gently running over her ear.

"You mean the world to me Jade, and this will hold a special meaning to me. When ever I look at them I can think of you now."

Giving a knock on the door Sapphire waits for a moment before putting her key in the lock. Even though she had a key she still knocked once just to let Gage know someone was entering.

Entering the dark apartment Sapphire shuts the door behind her a few bags in hand. Some with food to make for tonight, and a movie. The other bag help some wrapped gifts to put under Gage's tree.

"Gage, are you home yet?"

It had been a pretty busy day at work, and not talking to Gage all day was rare but it was just to crazy to talk. Now though not hearing anything it made her worry just a little. Going to the kitchen first Sapphire puts the bags down on the counter. Than seeing the tree light on Sapphire makes her way over there. Her eyes scan the room. Seeing Gage on his bed Sapphire goes over to him and smile.

"Hey there, I was worried for a second. I brought over stuff to make some pizza and a few movies for us to watch tonight. How was your driving lesson? Did you learn a lot from that brother of mine?"

Squatting down in front of the mattress to see Gage better she leans in and gives him a gentile kiss on the nose. Taking a closer look and now being eye level with Gage she could see something different in his eyes and it worried her just a little. Something didn't seem right. Sapphire waits to hear how Gage's day went.

One of those days

Ryder grins and shakes his head at Thirteen. "Nope. If we drove it would take us a day, but Jason said we're gonna fly. I guess he lined up an Elite jet."

Taking the basket of clothes, he mixes it in with his own laundry, adding soap and turning on the water. "Have you ever flown before?"

As Jade sees the little boxes, she looks at them curiously. They looked an awful lot like jewelry boxes, but surely he hadn't...

Accepting the first one she opens it carefully to set her eyes on the earrings. Her mouth hangs open just a little and she blinks, realizing how expensive these must have been. Glancing up at Dan, a smile comes to her lips. "Oh Dan... they're beautiful." She looks back down again, fingering the little stones. The earrings were so pretty... and automatically her favorite already.

Moving on to the longer box, when Jade realizes that it's a matching bracelet, her breath leaves her for a moment. Not even sure why, a little tear comes to her eye. Looking up to Dan again such an expression is on her face that one might thing something was wrong. But in reality, she was just so surprised. She'd never received a gift like this before from a man and it felt... special.

Taking the bracelet from the box, Jade is still quiet. Reaching out, she motions for Dan to help her put it on. Once it's on her wrist, she studies it sparkling in the firelight. A smile slowly spreads on her lips and she throws her arms around Dan's neck. "Thank you.... they're so pretty and... and special."

Kissing his cheek, she draws back, still smiling. "I didn't need gifts to make this day any more perfect but I have to admit..." She looks at the jewelry again. "...you have good taste."

Laughing, she rubs noses with him. "Thank you, Dan."

Getting up quickly, she goes behind the couch to bring the bag she'd had wrapped for over a week. She sits back down again, careful to keep track of her earrings and making sure she didn't lose anything.

She hands Dan the bag, hoping that he likes the new leather gloves and the belt with his initials tooled into the leather. She'd also found a music CD she knew he wanted and a handbook with all sorts of horse facts in it.

Gage sits in his dark apartment, the Christmas tree providing the only light. Staring into the dimness, he recalls the day. It had just been one of those days. Community service had not gone well and he'd messed up several times, then had gotten in an argument with the police officer, ending in a harsh warning that made him back off. Once that was over, he'd gone to TJY to find Scott who was back from Texas and who had left a message for him that they could go driving that afternoon. Gage had accepted and had learned a lot, but there had been a whole lot more to those two hours than just driving, and it very well may have changed everything.

Sighing, he leans down on his mattress to curl up on his side. Sapphire would be here soon... at least he thought she would. He'd left only the deadbolt locked so she could get in with her key, but now he didn't even know if she'd show up. Not after what Scott had said to him.

Gift

As Ryder pulls away Thirteen looks up into his eyes. Just seeming to get lost in them Thirteen's lips form a small smile. She saw the glint in his eyes, and could tell she did in fact do a good job giving back to him what he had offered.

Once right is sitting up, and Thirteen is able to move she sits up as well. She would of gladly stayed on the couch but she new she couldn't there was much to do if they were going to leave town soon. Standing and stretching her arms to the sky  Thirteen gives stretch before replying to Ryder.

"Mmmm...yeah I think there might be a few things I could used washed. Let me go gather the stuff up and than I will meet you at the washer."

Heading to her room Thirteen enters and moves around picking up some of the clothing that had been thrown on the floor. She didn't like making a habit of keeping the room a mess, but the last few days she had been working late and had slipped up on putting the clothing in the hamper. Not to mention it was a pain to hang everything up since she didn't have a dresser.

Finally grabbing the last few things and throwing them in the hamper Thirteen walks back across the house and to the backroom where Ryder was waiting at the washer and dryer.

"Ok, here are a few things. Don't need the room stinking up while we are gone. How will we get to Texas? Drive?"

The meal had been great and now heading to the department store Karla felt a little anxious. Not that she was there with Kip, and even the money didn't seem to bother her just the thought of shopping. It wasnt something she did a lot, and it felt a little over whelming.

Starting to look at the racks Karla looks up as Kip takes the scarf. Thinking he was going to ask her if she liked it Karla stepping a little closer. But seeing him put it on her eyes widen a little and twinkle as the laughter comes to her lips again and she shakes her head. Not paying any attachen to the people who were starring as they walked my Karla just continued to laugh gasping for air. Karla could already feel the anxiety start to lift as she laughed.

"Oh Kip, the color matches your eyes nicely. I think you should get it, and where it to the next band meeting."

Spotting the fuzzy hat that match Karla reaches for it and goes to Kip putting it on him than stepping back. Giving a laugh again she nod.

"There now you match."

Keeping his arms around Jade Dan just watches the fire dance in the fireplace reflecting on his day with Jade. Eating, laughing, cuddling...Jade had looked stunning today and Dan couldn't have asked for a better night. Everything had worked out perfect and he could only hope as the night started to wrap up it would continue to work out as he planned. Her words of sitting there with him forever made his lips spread as his heart gave a loud tump.

Giving a small laugh of his own he gives Jade's arms a run and a kiss to her for head as he moves around a little bit forcing Jade to move slightly anyways.

"Well it look like you moved anyways...but...I guess I can go first."

Leaning backwards a little Dan reaches over the arm of the couch and retrieves one small almost ring like box that was done up in red and green tree. Inside sat two small dangling earrings. Diamonds went down and at the bottom sat two very rare turquoise diamonds. Dan was lucky to have found them in one jewelry store after looking several places. The other box was rather long and was done up in shinny blue paper with a silver bow. Inside sat a tiny bracelet that matched the earrings. Diamonds wrapped around, and the rare turquoise diamonds were placed every fourth stop.

Holding them out to Jade he smiles. He hoped she liked them, he hadn't seen her wear jewelry often but what she did wear he had taken note to how dainty they were and thought she deserved something nice to have. Seeing the bracelet and necklace had been to perfect to pass up.

You first

Ryder hadn't started out with the intention of anything more than a nice but brief kiss. As Thirteen returns the passion though, he finds it difficult to ignore the quickening beat of his heart. She hadn't ever given back quite like this before and it sends his pulse racing. Feeling her soft fingertips on the back of his neck and her light touch to his back. It was enough to make any man weak in the knees.

Turning his head as he kisses her, he shifts so even though he still rests on her, he's holding her warmly. A low murmur is intended to let her know that he was enjoying every part of the kiss she was giving him. Though temptation wanted to keep him there and lure him further towards a forbidden line, he knows he's not willing to risk the consequences. No, he would be satisfied with the simplicity he and Thirteen shared.

Eventually pulling back, he stares down into her eyes and a quiet chuckle surfaces. "I better get away while I still can," he teases. "Otherwise, you're liable to make me stay here forever." He knew behind her gaze there lingered questions as to whether or not she responded to his affection in the right way. And all he wanted was for her to know that she couldn't be any more perfect. Giving her a little squeeze, he hopes she knows it.

Finally Ryder sits up, dragging himself from where he could so easily get too comfortable. "Well, if we're heading to Texas tomorrow, I guess I need to do a little bit of laundry. Got anything you want me to throw in there too?"

Kip grins and shrugs. "Somebody's gotta make people laugh. Though I think Kyle could give me a run for my money. And don't let Theo fool you. Twila keeps him in check, but get him alone and he has us all in stitches."
Laughing a little, Kip goes back to his food to actually eat it this time. It felt good to forget about the night before and make someone laugh. It was nice to see Karla smile.

After they're both done eating, they head out again and Kip drives to Walmart. It was surprisingly quiet, and Kip wanders over to the clothing section that now had winter clothes everywhere.

"Oooh!" He spins off to the side and grabs a hot pink scarf to wrap it around his neck, then poses for Karla. "What do you think?"

The day had been perfect. Jade couldn't have asked for more, and she would always remember it. She had had such a good time with Dan, first at breakfast, then shopping. She'd wound up finding a turquoise dress that she loved and couldn't wait to wear to dinner that night. Laughing and talking the day away, she couldn't remember when she'd had so much fun sledding or throwing snowballs. Though the snow was quickly melting, it had provided enough fun for one day. Dinner at the nice restaurant was extra special and Jade had to admit to Dan that she'd never been taken out somewhere like it before. All dressed up, she'd felt good about being by Dan's side, loving the way he'd dressed up too.

Worries about anything else never entered Jade's mind as she just enjoyed the day for all it was worth. And once the sun fell below the horizon, she couldn't believe it was almost over.... almost. But not quite finished yet.

A warm fire in the livingroom fireplace made for a cozy atmosphere and Jade was all too glad that no one else was occupying the room tonight. Just her and Dan once more, this time on the couch to exchange presents and have their little Christmas together.

"You've given me such a wonderful day." Jade smiles, her cheeks rosy from the nearby fire and all the activities of the day. "I wish it could go on forever."

Leaning into Dan in the corner of the couch, she slips her arm around him and sighs with contentment. "Your gifts are behind the couch but I'm too comfortable to get up." She giggles. "So you go first."

Ready

Katie can't help the laugh that comes out after the waiter leaves. It wasn't his fault he had interrupted them, but it always did seem like they had perfect timing knowing right when to bring people to a stop in there train of thought. Giving a laugh Katie just shakes her head.

I love you too J!!

Taking a sip of her water Katie waits a few moments before replying to Jason's question. A large smile slips onto her lips.
"I was born ready. My bags are packed and ready to go. I'll be standing there outside your door. I'd hate to wake you up to say..."

Stopping again Katie realizes she was singing a song and laughs.

"Yes, I am ready."
Shaking her head and still laughing Karla can't even talk for a long moment as her eyes were still watering. That had hit the spot and tickled her just right.

"Mmm...I think you got it all. I don't even know why its so funny, but it is. You must be the one in the group that keeps everyone laughing huh?"

Bringing her hand to her mouth Karla laughs a little more her eyes sparkling and dancing with the humor she felt.  Karla hadnt laughed like this in a long long time. It felt good t do it again.

Feeling Ryder's lips on her Thirteen eases her eyes closed as her heart thumps in her chest. He'd kissed her before, and let it linger but this was different. It felt deeper with more emotion, something that said, not only do I care, but I think I've fallen for you. It was a whole new sensation in itself to Thirteen and by no means did she hate it. Ryder was special to her, and he meant a lot. If anyone could give her this feeling she would want it to me him. The safety she felt in his arms, the warmth she felt wash over her, it was new, but beautiful at the same time.

Returning the kiss Thirteen wasn't sure what to do, but she just let her emotions lead the way hoping she was doing it right, and Ryder would be pleased. Deeping in her own kiss it was soft yet more than normal letting Ryder know she liked it. Bringing her fingers to the back on Ryder's neck Thirteen runs her fingers along where his hair ended and the skin kept going. Her other one finding his back gently running up and down his spine lightly. Continuing the kiss Thirteen didn't want the moment to end.

Love

Feeling Katie's little tug on his warm emotions, Jason's eyes brighten, his smile growing wider. He loved it when she did that. Not only did it make him feel good but he knew it made her feel good too.

I love you, Hero. What would I do without you?

Silent laughter bubbles inside.

Other than suffocate and die a horrible death.

"Can I get you anything else?"

Jason's emotions come to a halt as he glances up at the waiter, almost annoyed, but he remains polite, retreating from Katie's hand. "I think we're good, thanks."

Left alone again, he rolls his eyes. "Killjoy. So you be ready to go by tomorrow after work?"

Ryder closes his eyes as his face is met with Thirteen's soft palm. Hearing she would go, he opens his eyes again, smiling. "I think it'll be fun too. And you already know Katie and Jason and Trent. So including me, you already know four people."

He gives her a wink. "As long as I'm the only bloke that counts, I promise not to get jealous."

Leaning down, he kisses her lips again, but this time lets it linger, deepening the exchange to show he cared and was proud of her. His hand slides up to where his fingers could feel her hair, his other cupping her waist. She deserved to be cared for. She deserved to be loved.

Kip looks up at Karla, his eyes widening, and for a few moments, he's able to keep a straight face as if he has no idea why she's laughing. But seeing her laugh so hard, he can't help the smile that finally breaks free, the bacon slipping from his mouth to fall back onto his plate.

Joining in with the laughter, the goofy glint has returned to his eyes and he picks his teeth with a finger. "Hmm... I think I got it out, what do you think?"

Jade gives Dan's arm a whack as he teases her about her snowy artwork, but she laughs anyway. "Turkey. Either you have bad perception or I'm a terrible artist."

Taking his hand, she lets him help her into the truck, a smile seeming to be permanently stuck on her face. Once Dan has joined her, she  thinks, then shrugs. "I don't really care where we go." She laughs. "Let's just go to town and stop at the first place that looks good. That way it will be a true adventure."

Would be ok

Taking Jason's hand in return and wrapping her fingers around his Katie looks up into his eyes as a smile spreads on her lips. Feeling his emotions they were so warm and inviting. Everything had been layed out for them and even if there relationship took some turns at time they new this was where they were meant to be.

Fishing through Jason emotions Katie finds the right ones. The love Jason sheared, and the happiness she felt. Giving a tug on them her eyes twinkle with the love she felt for him. It was strange thinking back to the time when she was much differnt than she was now. She had come a long way, her and Jason both.

Getting pushed back on the couch as Ryder leans on her Thirteen gives a small laugh. Looking up at him she cocks her head a little looking back into his bright eyes. She enjoyed every moment spend with Ryder weather it was a walk, watching a movie or just cuddling.

Thinking about his question for a long moment Thirteen process the question choosing she wanted to do in her mind. She had never been to Texas before, let alone a ranch. In her eyes, one could see she was deep in thought. Ryder would be with her, maybe it would be fun.
"I think it would be fun to go and see some place new. If your with me, I think it would be ok too. I know you'd keep me safe."

Thinking again Thirteen brings her hands up to Ryder's face and cradles it running her thumb over his cheek bone, and his jaw. It was something she often did, remaindering herself of his features, mapping his face in her mind.

"As long as your with me, I am not scaired. I think it would be fun to go."

As the food comes to the table Karla's stomach gives a growl and her face turns a small shade of red. Smiling up at the waitress she gives her thanks. The prayers followed and Karla was happy they had come. It was nice praying with someone else.

Cutting her food Karla keeps her eyes on her plate. The pancakes looked so good, her mouth was watering. Finally being able to take a small bite Karla closes her eyes as it almost melts in her mouth. Severing the flavor letting it last forever. It had been a long time since Karla had tasted something this good. As a kid this was what she had to eat the most.

"This is so good...thank you Ki...."

Looking up from her meal Karla's words break off seeing Kip with the bacon hanging from his mouth. Not being able to help it or even knowing why it hit her funny bone Karla lets out a loud and long laugh. Tears formed in her eyes as the laughing continued her whole body shaking from the laughter.  Finally as it started to slow though Karla wiped her eyes with her napkin trying to form her words.

"I think you have a little...something in your teeth!!"

Throwing his jacket back on once again Dan looks in the mirror one more time running a hand through his hair making sure it was ok since he was leaving his hat behind today.

Exiting the bunk Dan just stands on the porch and watches Jade for a long moment. A smile on his face as he just watch's her make the heart track in the snow.  Finally coming off the the steps he walks slowly over to her stepping over the line making sure not to mess it up.

"Its a horse right?"

The cheesy look in Dan's eyes that was chased by the twinkle showed he was just pulling her leg. Finally he gives a small laugh though and takes her hand in his.

"Ready to go? You can pick where we go."

Stepping twords the truck Dan opens the door and holds it for Jade.

Stranded

Jason nods absentmindedly. He had a weird feeling about all this. Not because he was apposed to taking Thirteen to the ranch, but just because of Trent and how he might react. In all reality, with or without Trent, it would be good for Thirteen to get out and among trustworthy people.

"Yeah... there's something special about that ranch."

Jason slides his hand across the table to take Katie's, giving it a little squeeze. If it hadn't been for the ranch, they might never have met. And if they had never met, he'd still have a big hole in his heart.

He allows the emotions tied to those thoughts move in Katie's direction so she would know what he was thinking, and he smiles a little.

"You're right - it's in Ryder's hands. He'll make the right choice, I'm sure. Regardless of where Trent is, I think Thirteen would enjoy the ranch."

Ryder wanders back into the living room and flops down on the couch, knocking into Thirteen so she's pushed onto her back and he's looking down at her. He rests an elbow on each side of her, his face inches from hers. A crooked grin emerges before he gives her lips a little kiss.
Looking into her eyes, he sees the potential he'd seen the first day. She had come such a long way but there was so much more out there yet for her to discover and learn and experience. Ryder didn't want to start trouble with Trent, but she'd already met him once, and the ranch was big enough that they might not ever be forced to interact at all. Family or not, it would be beneficial to Thirteen for her to be with those people for a few days.

"How would you like to go to Texas for a few days over Christmas?" His eyes twinkle as he stays on top of her in a teasing manner. "Jason just invited us to go with him and Katie to that ranch she's told you about where her family is. I haven't been there, but I know they're good people and it could be a lot of fun. I'd be with you every step of the way."

Kip chuckles as he retrieves the paper crane and shakes his head. "I never could get the hang of origami. This is cool."

Switching back to her question, he nods. "Yeah, there's a Walmart about fifteen minutes from here. We can make that at least one stop. It's whatever you need... I got all day." In all honesty, he'd rather have it take a little longer today so he didn't have to go back and face Erik or anyone else.

In a few minutes, the waitress returns to the table with their food, sliding Karla's over in front of her with a smile. "There you go, Hon. I made sure they put some extra whipped cream on there too. And Kip..." She hands him his eggs, bacon and toast. "You're regular. Did you want just your water or cherry coke?"

Kip grins. She knew his favorite. "Why not... gimme coke. That'll wake me up."

The waitress chuckles. "Alright. I'll be right back. You two enjoy."

Kip waits until he's alone with Karla again to pray for their meal before digging in. As they eat, he concentrates on his food, but nonchalantly takes two strips of bacon and slips them up between his upper gums and teeth so they're sticking out of his mouth like thick fangs. He doesn't look up though and just keeps looking at his food, waiting for Karla to see him.

Jade smiles back at Dan and slips from his grasp, wrapping the blanket around her as she stands. "I'll be ready."
Following Dan to the door, she watches him leave, just staring after him with a smile on her face for several moments until she finally retreats to shower quickly and get dressed. A quick call to Becky lets her know that she would be gone most of the day, and she also gives Rosetta a ring to tell her stepmother she'd be out with Dan.

Right on time, Jade is out to Dan's truck, beating him there. She was casually dressed for breakfast, knowing that later she'd have a chance to dress up more nicely in whatever outfit she could find today. Taking small steps in the freshly fallen snow, Jade creates a heart-shaped trail around Dan's truck while she waits.

Cars and semis whiz by on the interstate, kicking up wet sludge from plowed pavement. The stranded trucker stands up on the front of his truck with the hood open as his freezing fingers try to find the engine problem. It was bad enough stalling out in the middle of a run, but it had to be in northern Illinois where they'd just had snow and it was cold.

Finally frustrated with a lack of progress, he retreats to his cap and picks up his cb, radioing the dispatch. "Yeah, I'm out on route fifteen headed south. I'm gonna need a tow."

Waiting for a response, Eric leans back in his seat and sighs deeply. He was trying to make it back to Texas for Christmas... he wanted to be there for Rosetta. But at this point, it wasn't looking good.

Danger

Katie thinks again for a long moment. Was if fair? No probley not, but Rosetta lets her bring friends to the ranch all the time. What would be wrong with doing it again?

"I guess it wouldn't be, but is it really fair that Thirteen doesn't know her father ether when she so badly wants that part of her life. When she needs that part, and there is no reason why she shouldn't know?"

Letting out a sigh again Katie leans forward on the table looking down at her food. Maybe it was wrong of them to play the field like this. But the longer she kept this secret herself the more it killed her inside and she felt so guilty when she looked into her cousins eyes.

"I guess its in Ryder's hands now to do what he thinks is best. I do hope they come though, I think it would do them both good. Even if its my Aunt's ranch there is something special about it, and its just...nice to be there."

Just listing to Kip and the waitress as she comes over Karla can tell she new what was going on but like she had held her tong from butting into where maybe she didn't belong. Giving a friendly smile to the waitress Karla just continues to watch, taking in Kip and the other lady. Observation, a talent that seemed to come without even thinking.

Once the orders where taken Karla takes the napkin that was to her left and starts playing with it trying to keep her fingers busy. Folding the napkin over, and over...flipping it to the other side and doing the same Karla talked as she folded.

"Well...were can we go for nice things? I shop at the dollar store, and salvation army for my clothing and whatever else I need."

Thinking Karla picks up the napkin and looks at it for a moment before bending a little more, and folding, than unfolding, only to refold again.

"There is a Walmart around here right?"

Finally bringing the paper to her lips Karla blows a little puffing out the body and wings to a crane made from paper and napkin.

"I heard they have nice things. Something the greatest things, can come very little."

Placing the crane down on the table Karla pushes it over to Kip and gives a soft smile. She couldn't remember where she learned to fold paper like that but it had been something she could do for a long time now. Now that it really amounted to much but it was a good way to pass the time.

Feeling Jade's lips on his Dan returns the passionate kiss. Letting the emotions, feelings, and everything connected with it flow over them. This moment, was so nice, to feel the warmth, to feel the hands that crawled up Dan's back, to just feel the love.

As Jade retreats Dan's lips yurn for more as his arms tighten a little but as Jade turns her head and comes back to his lips again Dan draws her closer as he shifts her around lightly in his arms so she was now facing him.

When Jade's fingers find the back of Dan's neck, a small sound was formed in his throat as he pulled her just a little bit closer. The moment continuing on, and who new how much time had passed as Dan's hands moved up Jade's back. But finally Dan does pull away as he looks into Jade's eyes and gives a smile. As much as he didn't want the moment to end he new it had to. Time wouldn't wait for them, and they still had a lot to do, and the more he stayed in this comfortable moment where his mind could not form a line the more danger he had of making a mistake and losing something so special to him.

"I am going to go clean up a little bit, and I will let you get dressed and ready. Meet you at my truck in a half?"

2/1/10

Sharp corners

Jade gives a little shriek as Dan picks her up, not having expected it, and her arms automatically wrap around his neck. Being brought to the window, her eyes widen at the white sight. She knew it wouldn't last long, but she never would have expected it at all. They'd predicted rain, but it must have been colder than the weathermen thought.

A smile curls Jade's lips as she hears Dan's questions and she turns her head to his, her forehead right up against his. "Yes and yes. I wouldn't miss time with you for the world."

Her arms still around him, she cocks her head to feels his lips on hers with a warm, passionate kiss. Her fingers feel of his hair at the base of his neck, hoping that maybe for once, a wish for a forever moment might be granted.

Drawing away to tilt her head the other way, she returns to the kiss, happy that Dan was there, happy he'd come to wake her up and happy that this day was theirs.

Kip seems to ignore Karla's comment about his dad, and he moves right along with her topic change. "I... think they might." He laughs. "And if they don't, then we'll special order it."

Getting to the little diner, Kip leads the way inside, holding the door for Karla. Finding a seat at his favorite table, one of the waitresses comes over. She was of medium build with just a tad bit of gray starting to show in her hair. As she approaches the table, her eyes widen. "Kip, what on earth did you do to yourself this time?"

Kip smirks a little and shrugs. "Doors... Hate them sharp corners."

The waitress shakes her head, her eyes narrowing. "Looks like this door had knuckles just like the last one did."

"Uh-huh."

It was very apparent that not only did Kip frequent this diner, but it wasn't the first time he'd come in here black and blue. It was also obvious that while Kip was unwilling to talk about what had happened, the waitress had it figured out, and Kip knew she did, so their little game continued without either of them ever saying what had actually gone on.

She shakes her head again and retrieves a notepad from her apron. "What can I get for you two?"

Once the orders are placed, Kip leans back in the booth, closing his tired eyes. But he had to talk, lest the conversation revert back to something he didn't want to think about. "So... mall? Downtown department store? You name it, we go."

Jason isn't convinced that his phone volume was turned up, but he drops the issue for now. Something did seem odd though... something told him that there was something not right.

Listening to Katie, he nods. "Yeah... I think Ryder's just worried about his promise to say nothing. He knows as well as the rest of us that Trent doesn't want Thirteen to find out about him."

His sentence lingers as moment. "Is it even right of us to plan on having her around him like that? I mean... is that really fair to Trent?"

God/Control

Thinking for a long moment Karla just watches Kip. Her heart ached for him. Behind his eyes she could see the pain that was there, and the anger as well. A wall had been built to block out the pain, and pretending it wasnt there was the soft cloth that covered it all.  Karla felt bad, though she new it was not her place to say more.

"Oh, I guess I just thought how Erik acted it was...more. Drunk or not though its still wrong of your dad. I don't have much to offer, but my arms are always open."

Giving a small smile she tried her best to lighting everything up for the moment. Maybe later they would come back to this topic.

"Do they have strawberry pancakes where we are going? With whip cream? I havnt had those in a really long time."

Sitting back quickly as Jade shoots out of bed, Dan miss a head collision. Giving a small laugh as his eyes widen as she becomes frantic a little color comes to his cheeks as he now realizes Jade didn't have much of a top on ether and feeling a little embarrassed he hadnt even thought that Jade might not be decent.

Recovering rather quickly the slight color leaves Dan's cheeks as he leans in to give Jade a soft kiss on her lips. He didn't care if her hair was messy, or she had no makeup on. She looked pretty this way too because it was 100% natural.

"No sweety you didn't miss breakfast but I couldnt wait any longer. I had to ask you something, and show you another thing at the same time."

Standing from the bed Dan takes the thick blanket from the foot of the bed and bends down to put is around Jade's shoulder and over her arms covering her up. Taking putting his hand behind her back, and the other under her legs Dan lifts her from the bed and brights her to the window where the sun seemed to shine thought. A little bright than normal.

"You know how some people say some things are imposable? Like mounds of snow in Texas?"

Drawing back the curtain on the window. Dan steps a little closer revealing a heavy snow falling, in light little puff. The ground covered with a thick layer of snow. Something very rare for this part of Texas and for those who got to see it were very lucky.

"Nothing is imposable you believe and God is in control. He can work in wonderful ways."

Turning his head from the window were BJ was bundled up playing in his first snow, with Rosetta not far behind he smiles at Jade, his eyes twinkled and sparkled. A look that had been absent from his eyes for a very long time.

"I have two questions for you now. One will you go sledding with me now? and two, the week after Christmas will you go to the farewell dance your aunt is throwing for Wes?"

Looking at Jason Katies eyes widen just a little before her lips break into a smile.

"I know you didnt tell me, but you must have had your phone up loud or something because I over herd you."

Katie gives a small nod that had to bed the explanation for it and the other times it had to have just been Jason's emotions coming to her and being read.

"And what I meant was Ryder didn't sound so sure it was a good idea. Thats all. But than again he didnt seem to hate the idea ether."

Sleepy

"Mmm... okay." Kip looks down the street, pondering their options. "There's a nice little diner - takes about ten minutes to get there. I don't like their lunch menu but they have good breakfasts."

Continuing to drive, when Karla's question comes, his grip on the steering wheel tightens again. He really didn't want to talk about this. But she was his friend and he wouldn't lie to her. "My dad's the reason I live with Erik and his family," he replies without much emotion. "I got pushed around a little so..." He shrugs. "Just one of those things. He comes around every once in a while... but not very much. Erik gets all upset but it's really nothing. My dad doesn't know what he's doing when he's been drinking. I know he wouldn't hit me if he was sober."

Stopping at a red light, Kip watches the traffic. "He hurts my feelings sometimes I guess, like last night, but it's just life. I'm fine, everything's fine and Erik worries for nothing."

"I think it would be good for them too." Jason grins as he feels Katie's foot under the table.

How about you come back to my place after this for a movie?

"Wait." Jason's emotions suddenly take a twist as confusion surfaces. "What do you mean Ryder sounded skeptical? I never told you that."

Feeling her bed move, Jade is yanked from a deeper sleep than she normally reached. "Wha?" She gives a jolt, sitting up and almost ramming Dan in the face with her head. Blinking, she runs a hand through her messy hair and squints at the clock, mumbling. "Holy cow... what time is it? I thought I... thought I set my alarm."

Trying to open her eyes a little wider, she realizes that she doesn't have much of a pajama top on, and she pulls her blanket up a little. "Did I miss chores?" She yawns sleepily, then her eyes widen. "Crap... breakfast. I'm not up too late, am I?"

Foot

As morning comes and the sun just moves over the horizon the crisp air makes its way around Dan as his destination is in mind. Morning chores were done, and it was always strange not to see Jade there waiting but today Dan was kind of thankful.

Getting up onto the porch Dan is quiet as he opens the bunkhouse door and slips inside. Going over to Jade's bed Dan sits down on the edge and gives her a gentile shake.

"Morning Sleepy head."

Listing as Jason talks to Ryder she just nods her head. He didn't lean one way or the other way but Katie could tell by his voice he was thinking about it. Again the strange knowlage of hearing what was going on the other end of the phone hits Katie. It was strange, it was odd and she didnt even understand it herself. Taking a drink Katie things for a moment.

"He sounded a little sceptically to me. Like he wanted to say yes, but would be a little nervous what Trent would think. I do hope they come thought. It would be good for them I think."

Finding Jason's foot under the table Katie rubs her along side of it showing her affection. She was still happy Jason and her were going to be heading to Texas. She always loved being out there.

Waiting for Kip Karla smiles as he emerges from his room again. Still wearing the same clothing she was before Karla's hair is cleaned up, and one could tell she took a shower.

Slowly following Kip down behind the back steps Karla had forgot they were even there till than. Not working for the last two days she seemed to forget the simple things like the setup of the house.

Coming almost to the bottom and seeing Erik Karla was about to turn and go back up as well when she hears his voice. Letting out a little sigh she turns again and continues down the steps.

Just standing there listing to Erik and Kip go back and forth Karla felt so out of place. She new Kip just didn't want to fight about this, and she felt bad, but she could see Erik was worried too.

Keeping her head down and following Kip out the door Karla takes a breath of the fresh air. Getting into the car and buckling her seatbelt Karla looks at Kip for a moment thinking.

"I really don't know whats around here thats good other than Burger King and thats because they have a dollar menu. So I'll trust you to pick someone good."

Looking out the window Karla is quiet for a moment just watching the trees and building pass her by. For a long moment her mind was far off just thinking, yet it was just about one person and not her own problem at the moment.

"Erik sounded really worried. This...happened before?"

Fine

Jason nods thoughtfully, chuckling just a little at Katie's reasoning. That was one way to accomplish what they wanted without technically getting themselves into trouble for it.

Katie's flow of emotions makes Jason squint one eye as the discomfort gradually hits him. For him, it was like receiving a block of unlabeled communication, more like gibberish than anything else. Without smooth communication, it tended to jolt his own flow, causing him to momentarily cringe. He could only assume this whole thing bothered her enough that it disrupted their connection. He'd been trying to train himself to read her emotions too, but so far had been unsuccessful. Assumptions and gut instincts were all he had to go on. At least this time he could see her face, so he read more from her eyes than anything.

"I think..." He ponders her question. What did he think? "Hmm..." He fiddles with a chopstick for a moment.  "I think if we want to get Thirteen to be around her family, this is about the best opportunity we're going to have since we have Christmas as an excuse. I think she's to the point she could handle the crowd now, and you're right, it would be safe."

Jason shrugs. "We can ask Ryder about it. It's short notice, but I know he's got like a week off work or something, and I think Carson's closing up Mom and Pop's for a couple days, so Thirteen should be free too. Ryder might think differently about Trent though. He might not want to push his luck out of respect for Trent's wishes. But... I think if asked, he'd agree with us. I don't think he likes the secret."

He pulls out his cell phone, deciding not to waste time. "Why not see what he thinks? If we don't ask now, it'll be too late."

Dialing the house number he has memorized, he waits until he hears Ryder's familiar voice.

"Yeah?"

"Ryder, it's Jason."

"Hey, Hotshot. What's up?"

"Wondered something." Jason glances to Katie, once more not even knowing that she could hear everything Ryder said. He didn't know it was happening, so he had no way of controlling it. "What are you and Thirteen doing for Christmas?"

"Ah... not much. No traditions on either side, so we were just gonna hang out with some movies at home and some good food. Most everyone we know's got plans so we were just gonna chill. Why?"

"Katie and I are heading to Texas tomorrow... for the ranch. I know it's short notice but... we were wondering if you two would like to join us for a good ol' family Christmas."

"Family Christmas, ay?" Ryder seems to be thinking for a moment. "Trent's around, in't he?"

"As far as I know."

"And you've already taken this under consideration."

"We have."

"And you think that it's actually a positive thing, providing an opportunity should any certain facts be revealed to a certain young woman."

Jason grins a little. "You're a smart man. But look, it's not our sole intent. We thought too, you and Thirteen might like a friendly atmosphere, it being the holidays and all, and I know that you'd be welcome at the ranch."

"Alright, well... I'll talk to Thirteen about it and see what she says. When are you and Kat taking off?"

"Tomorrow right after work. We're gonna fly down in an Elite jet to make it a quick trip. We'll stay for a few days - you and Thirteen can come back any time."

"Okay. I'll get back to you on that. Thanks, Jase."

"You bet." Jason ends the call and puts his phone back in his pocket, clueless that Katie already knew what had been said. "Well, he's gonna talk to Thirteen about it. He knew right away we'd been thinking about Trent, but he didn't hint one way or the other how he felt about it. He said he'd get back to me."

Kip grins a little and nods. "Yeah, I bet you'd rather have Twila along for some of that stuff anyway."

Sighing, he looks to the door. "Alright... let me get ready, you get ready and we'll book it out the back. We'll get breakfast out this morning."

Once they had parted, Kip concentrates on getting cleaned up and changing clothes, slipping on his tennies and grabbing his keys and wallet. Meeting Karla in the hall a short while later, he leads the way down the back stairs instead of down through the center of attention. His plan, though well thought out, however, backfired as Erik was on his way to the garage out the back door as well.

Kip skids to a halt at the bottom of the stair landing, twirling around to go right back up. Unfortunately, Erik spots him.

"Kip? Morning to you too. Heading out so soon?"

Kip fiddles with his keys, his head down in the opposite direction. "It's late morning, but yes, heading out for a while."

"Mm... well, keep your phone on ya. Things are quiet around here though, but William did need some help with that gutter out back."

"Alright. Sure." Kip tries to sidle past Erik, but once he's turned to take the doorknob, the side of his face is exposed.

"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute." Erik grabs his arm and turns him around to see the wound in full view. He glances to Karla then back to Kip. "Your dad did this last night?"

Kip shrugs off Erik's arm. "So what?"

"So what? This is a big deal, Kip. What are you going to do about it?"

"Nothing. I'm fine."

"You're not fine, look at yourself!" Erik gestures to Kip's face.

"I'm fine!" Kip repeats strongly. "It's over, alright? Just let it go."

"I can't just let it go. This is wrong!"

"Look, let it drop! I told you I'm fine, so leave it be, Erik. There's no issue, there's nothing that needs to be done. It's over. It won't happen again."

Erik sets his hands on his hips, worry for his friend showing in his eyes. His tone drops several degrees. "That's what you said the last time."

Kip swallows hard but breaks his gaze with Erik's eyes and turns back to the door, nodding to Karla. "I'm ready. Let's go."

Erik watches helplessly as the two leave, a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. Kip always said it was fine, but it wasn't.

Getting in his car, Kip waits for Karla to buckle up before pulling down the long driveway. His grip on the steering wheel told of the tension he was feeling, though he tries not to let it show. "Alright... where to for breakfast?"
