Nice Spot

Mmmmm...motivation that was what life was pretty much about. Being motivated to fight, win survive, move forward at all cost and not look back. It's what drove Misty on, it's what left her allow these feelings for Jason to come out freely now.

As Jason comes in again for a more light kiss Misty didn't mind. Rough was good, but soft was ok as well and it didn't bother her at all. Once Jason pulls away again Misty lets her smile show. She was happy, she was pleased.

"I think going to the movie now sounds perfect."

Keeping her fingers locked with Jason's Misty slides out of the booth giving a smile. She might be done smooching with Jason at the moment but she wasn't ready to let go of his hand. She felt...young again like she finally got the chance with her crush. It was a feeling that was different but she liked it.

"Onward, a movie, popcorn and two chairs are awaiting us."

Rosetta gives a smile and a nod of her head. She agreed with her brother, no matter what the other side of the story was things had gone sour and it was sad. But being able to see Katie smiling again was a good thing. Her smile was way to pretty to waste.

"That she does. When she first came back I was quite worried about her. Maybe now I still am a little. But seeing her with her friend I think...she's gonna be ok."

As Hunter swings his arm around her Katie's hand goes to his and locks fingers. Was this normal for friends? Were they more than friends? Did it matter? Not really all Katie new is having Hunter there, having his affection it felt good and chased away the shadows that larked around. Even if it was just for a little bit it was something and it helped.

"A little relaxation huh? I think I know the right place come on."

Going to the mess hall first and dropping off there left over Katie than leads Hunter around back to one of the barns. Walking through one of the pasture Katie stops at a loan tree that stood in the middle. It offered much shade, a nice view of the sky, and one could even watch the horses graze if they wanted too.

"How this look for a nice spot?"

Comfy Seats

Jason grins, stifling another laugh as his cheeks grow warm. He wasn't sure he'd ever been complimented like that on his kissing before.

"Um... no, not all the time. Just... when something motivates me."

Just gazing into those never-ending eyes... holding her soft hand... feeling her fingers running gently through his hair... it was as if all his questions this past week about him and her and where they were going had been suddenly answered. He knew legally she was still married... but she had also initiated a divorce. He knew that it would be impossible for her to have rid herself of all love for Carson already... but he also knew that she was not a woman to stand still - she had made up her mind to move on. He knew that in a way, she was on the rebound, still struggling with being abandoned... but they had also known each other for longer than this past month and these feelings were not new ...or unexpected. So yes, there were some apprehensions lurking in the back of Jason's mind... but none major enough for him to withdraw now. He liked Misty. She was lonely. He was lonely. She liked him. They got along great. Why not just go with the flow and see what would happen?

Leaning back in, Jason gives Misty's lips a more tender kiss this time before pulling back to rest against her forehead again. "How about we get to the theater, hmm?" His hand continues to softly move around hers. "I hear two comfy seats calling our names..."

Dani squeals as she's picked up, wrapping her arms around Dalton's neck. Laughing, she gives him a quick kiss on the cheek and nods. "Okay. I promise."

Grinning, she points to the kitchen. "Onward, my prince charming! To the chocolate pie!"

Jay smiles and nods slowly, agreeing with his sister's observation. "I get the funny feeling Hunter's on the edge of something... like one step will either take him in the right direction or a very wrong one. Then at the same time, he's so likable that I forget he hasn't been a lifelong friend of Katie's."

He shrugs. "I don't know. You're right though - he's different. They're different together. I just hope things turn out well for the both of them, whether they're just friends or not. Katie could stand something to go right for once lately."

Hunter chuckles and shakes his head. "I'm the odd man out here - how is it that I get to pick what we do?"

Swinging off his bike, he stretches tall, twisting to pop his back before sighing with content. "I feel like I should choose to work, but if I'm going to be honest, I gotta say, just chilling for a while sounds like a good idea too."

Slinging an arm around Katie's shoulders, he gives her a playful jolt. "I just wanna get rid of this city slicker label," he admits. "Maybe I can pitch in with chores later? If... you wanna help me find a nice shady spot to relax for the time being?"

Breath Away

As Jason returns the kiss Misty's deepens a little more. If this was anyone but Jason Misty might think things were going to fast or it was just a rebound but because it was Jason she new it was neither. They had always been close, they always had that attraction and they had always had these feelings. They had just been locked away knowing both could not step over that line till now.

When Jason pulls away and leans his head against hers once more Misty catches her own breath. It had been quite the exchange and it had taken her breath away but it had been worth it very much. Letting her one hand still play with Jason's hair and her other locked with Jason's feeling the soft motion on her palm Misty smile widens as she study's Jason's eyes again.

"Not all the time, just....most of the time. Do you kiss like that all the time..because boy you took my breath away, and I liked it."

Dang...

Misty's response shouldn't have surprised Jason. He knew better than to think being in a restaurant would keep her from doing whatever she wanted. Perhaps he just hadn't expected it to come tonight... this quickly. Either way, as her lips touch his, he doesn't resist.

Closing his eyes, he immediately returns Misty's kiss, feeling a sensation comparable to an electrical shock shoot down his spine. Her hand brushing past his neck again almost causes him to break the kiss, but he manages to relax as her touch finds its way to his hair.

Still caressing her one palm, Jason's free hand slips around her shoulders to rub her back. Withdrawing only slightly from her lips, he tilts his head the opposite direction to lead the second kiss, forgetting about trying to think things through. Ever since waking up in the infirmary without knowing how to read his own emotions, nothing had felt as strongly as this. It was overpowering. It was immediately addictive and he couldn't get enough. It brought on warmth... a rush of adrenaline... excitement... passion... all those things he hadn't felt in so long.

Almost growing dizzy from the unexpected rush, Jason pulls back slightly to catch his breath, once more leaning his forehead against Misty's.

"Dang," he breathes, almost choking on a short laugh. His hands continue their soft movements, his eyes piercing hers. "You always kiss like that?"

Zooom.....Zinggggg....BOOM....

Letting her smile turn into a little grin that danced with mischeaf Misty's fingers tingle as Jason's own move around her hand. His fingers soft yet strong, light yet powerful. Finally letting her own fingers lock with Jason's Misty lets out a breath that she had taken in.

Jason's comment makes Misty's eyes dance some more as she continues to look into his. Pure emotions, feelings flowing forth, not needing to be held back. There was no wall, there was nothing stopping them now.

"Let them kick us out. It just means we got a free meal...and so much more."

Pulling her head away and tilting it slightly to the side Misty comes back again letting her eyes finally fall shut as her lips press against Jason's. Taking her free hand Misty bring its around brushing Jason's neck again before her hand finds the back of his head and her hand combs through his hair.

Letting her emotions oh her emotions, her feelings, the door that had been lock swung open now and in this kiss Misty bore it all. Her heart racing so loud she thought for sure everyone would hear it. Her skin had goosbumps though she didn't mind. No, nothing would rune this moment right here.

Any idea?

Jason holds his gaze on Misty's eyes, feeling as though he couldn't look away even if he wanted to. With her forehead against his, his pulse quickens slightly but he doesn't move.

As she trails her fingers down his cheek and to his neck, he sucks in his breath, tensing slightly. Did she have any idea what that did to him? Feeling her touch come to rest on his hand, his face grows warm and he wonders if she could tell, being this close.

Still not moving his eyes, he turns his hand so they were resting palm to palm. His scarred surface was ultra sensitive, sending tingles up his arm as he shifts his hand to gently caress hers. His fingers slide up beyond hers then down again, intertwining then shifting to caress again before finally locking and curling around her own fingers.

With pulse racing, Jason swallows hard. He hadn't exactly planned this... now... like this. But there was no denying how he felt, or what she was giving him permission to do. How long had they kept their feelings to themselves? Locked away safely - and rightly so - always believing there would never be this chance? And right now... in this moment... they were both free.

"Do you have any idea how badly I want to kiss you?" he whispers. His grip on her hand tightens slightly. "I just don't wanna get kicked out of here before paying the bill..."

O.O; \ o.o /

Once getting back to the ranch Katie takes her own helmet off and shakes her head for a little bit. She couldn't help but feel special coming back to the ranch with Hunter on his bike. It made her feel in a way like a princess to a much different story.

"It was really nice. We will have to do it again for sure. Thank you as well for just...being there for me like always."

Swinging her leg around the bike and sliding down Katie's hand dags along Hunter's shoulder and down his arm. Resting it on his hand for a second Katie gives it a pat smiling. She really had enjoyed the ride and having Hunter with her at the hosp just seemed to make it a little easier to deal with.

"So what one the agenda after I drop the extra stuff off at the mess hall. More work? A little relaxation? It's your pick."

Following Jay's gaze outside the window to Hunter and Katie who had just made it back to the ranch Rosetta gives a small smile. She had her own thoughts about those two but no solid prof and the last thing she wanted to do was spread a bunch of rumors around.

"At times it would seem they would be close than friends but that is only an assumption. As far as fact go though Hunter became friends with Katie unexspectiny and when she needed a friend, because she was feeling ignored and useless he didn't turn away. He stuck his neck out, and didn't take advantage when he could of so easily."

Rosetta new the young mans history. It was part of her job to know and letting him come here to work without paying it was a requirement. And though he had made a lot of bad chooses Rosetta could see something good inside of him too. There was something good there waiting to flower if given the chance.

"So yes I see it too, there is something special there. It's hard to put a finger on and something much much different than what Katie and Jason had but as far as anyone knows they are just friends."

Standing with Dani and watching her struggle to walk Dalton can't help but laugh a little again. Not wanting to have her hurt herself anymore than she already was he bends down a little bit and puts his arms behind her legs before scooping her up off her feet and standing straight again holding her close to him.

"I promise I wont tell anyone if you promise not to let everyone know my two weakness ok?"

Looking down at the screen with Jason Misty understood what he meant about reviews. How could one really go by just that? Everyone had different tastes and maybe theirs wasn't the same as the critic. So just going and seeing the movie would really be the best bet.

"Alright than it sounds like we know what movie we are going to watch."

Turning her head and looking up at Jason again Misty now realizes just how close she had gotten to him. With in inches of his face she eyes lock with his as she can feel her heart pick up a few beats. Looking deep into Jason's eyes Misty couldn't help it. They just drawed her in, they always had.

"We....can do popcorn just...tell Rick I told you not to so I don't get chewed out."

Her voice was but a whisper as she gives a shy little smile. Leaning her for head against Jason's her eyes never leaving his. Something had always been there...a forbidden attraction so friend they had stayed both respecting each other but now they were free...would more become?

Bringing her hand to Jason's face Misty brushes his cheek for a moment with her fingertip before retreating them around his jawline, down his neck, shoulder, arm and than resting on his hand. She could never describe why they had such an attraction to each other from day one...they just did, not that she minded at all.

Imagination?

"Beautiful." Hunter gives the bike some gas before putting his foot back where it belonged as he shoots down the way Katie had told him. They were closer to the ranch than he'd thought. Sad that the ride was coming to and end, but good that they wouldn't have to walk. He wouldn't ever admit that the gas tank was closer to empty than he'd planned. He hadn't been paying enough attention to it, and was glad that he'd noticed it before it had actually run dry.

Getting back to the ranch, Hunter slows the bike, downshifting before turning into the driveway. Riding slowly up to the garage, he parks and finally cuts the engine. Taking off his helmet, his hair is matted and a little sweaty as he runs his fingers through it. Looking over his shoulder at Katie, he smiles. "Thanks... I needed a good ride and... your company made it even better."

Biting his lip, he turns back around, waiting for her to dismount before he did, so he wouldn't kick her.

Sitting inside the dining hall near the window, Jay had been enjoying conversation with some of the family, catching up on on what had been happening here at the ranch and sharing about his own family. He was so happy that everyone had welcomed him here with open arms, just like Rosetta. His fear of rejection had been silly... and he realized that now.

Across from Rosetta at the table, he finishes off his glass of lemonade before movement outside catches his eye and he sees Hunter and Katie returning. Watching them for a moment, he then looks back to his sister with curiosity. "So... there more between them than just friendship, or is it just my imagination?"

Dani rolls her eyes and nods. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Hurts something awful, but I think my pride is more bruised than my toe."

Shaking her head, she looks closer at her foot that was propped up on the coffee table. She sure had whacked it good. "I suppose some ice might be wise, but we have to get some pie first."

Using Dalton's hand to pull herself up, she stands, cocking her foot so her toe didn't touch the floor. Starting to hobble forward, she thinks better of it, and grabs Dalton's arm. "I think you better come with me before I fall and break an ankle instead."

Still feeling incredibly silly, a new giggle slips out and she turns to bury her face against Dalton. "You better not tell anybody about this."

Having Misty come over to his side of the table, Jason slides his glass over to make room for the phone. Leaning closer to her so he could see the small screen, he nods. "I'm not in the mood for a love story either, so that narrows it down."

Squinting, he leans down a little more, his shoulder bumping Misty's. "Looks like the reviews of the super hero one are pretty good. Not that I go by those, but it can't be too horrible. I'm good with watching some good ol' kick butt action if you are."

Turning his head, he hadn't realized how close they were as he looks into Misty's eyes, just inches away. He grins. "But only if we get some popcorn." He couldn't believe he was thinking of food after just having finished such a meal, but what was the fun of going to the movies without getting a snack? "By the time it starts, I'll be hungry again," he teases.

Oh no Mr.

Misty's cheeks turn a slight shade of red at Jason's comment though she didn't feel awkward. Maybe it was because she had known Jason for so long and though they never acted on it there was always an unspoken attraction there that now was aloud to come out.

Though Misty's heart still ached at the loss of her Husband she refused to let it get her down to the point of not functioning even if she did miss Carson. Jason was doing a good job though of filling that gap she felt. He helped her feel like she was ok, and it was Carson's loss not her own. Even if Jason didn't know it he made her feel a lot of things and reminded there was nothing wrong with her Carson was the one who had a problem.

"Yeah I have to say this is the closest I have found to the real food they have in Greece. Some places say its Greek but as soon as you bit into it you know its not. This is great though."

Finishing up her meal and ordering a helping of Baklava Misty insisted Jason taste it too. This Greek dessert was one that she loved the most and there was no way he was going to get away without trying it.

Looking across the table at Jason as she eat she listened to the movies. She wasn't sure what sounded good and what didn't. At this point she had such a nice time if she picked something crappy she didn't know if it really would rune the night or not. Just being with Jason was nice enough.

"Oh no Mr. I picked where we went to eat...and the movie I said we could pick together. You're not going to get out of it that easy."

Placing the last bit of her dessert into her mouth Misty slides out of the booth and comes over to Jason's side sliding in next to him. Turning the phone around and looking down at it and thinks for a moment before looking up.

"I don't know about you but I am not really in the mood for a love story flick. Does the super hero one have good reviews?"

Giving a another laugh and shaking his head Dalton does his best to maneuver around Dani and the table not falling himself. Holding his hand out to Dani Dalton helps her up with ease and lets her sit down on the couch. Lifting her foot he looks at it. A nice black and blue mark had formed already with a little bit of swelling but it didn't look broken.

"I think...its going to be sore for a little bit but you will survive My Lady."

Reaching out and pushing a peace of hair behind Dani's ear Dalton gives a smile. He hadn't meant to laugh at Dani's pain but he was laughing with her, not at her. The whole ordeal had just been silly.

"So now on a serous note...are you going to be ok?"

"How could I not think happy thoughts at the moment?!"

Katie's comment had no need to be answered as they took off again. It pretty much spoke for itself on what she mean and she new that Hunter would know as well. He was smarter than most people though.

Leaning into Hunter it was like second nature that Katie just moved like he did on the bike. Making sure to stay low to him, lean when he did and yet still enjoy everything around them as it wized by. The warmth and cool mixed together was so refreshing, and it took the edge off the heat. It was perfect.

"Running out of gas on a day like this could be a bad thing that I would like to avoid."

Knowing they really did have to get back Katie looks left and than looks right getting her bearing where they were. It didn't take long before Katie taped Hunter's leg a little bit.

"Go left here, straight for about four miles, take a right and go straight. The ranch will be on the right hand side."

Happy Thoughts

"Ha!" Jason laughs outright before taking another bite of food. "Can you imagine Reese pulling me into his office and locking the door? I can just see those big Papa Bear eyes boring holes into me as he reminds me how special his niece is."

Cocking his head, Jason gives Misty a softer grin. "I don't think I need that reminder though." Returning to his food, he sighs with content. "I think this is gonna be a new favorite place of mine."

Being able to relax was perhaps something Jason had taken for granted for too long. But feeling so at ease tonight, he appreciates it so much. He had his other friends. He had his old buddies, and he had Sandy. They were all fun. But Misty knew him well, she knew his history and she knew more about what he was going through than anybody else. She was helping him heal... and he knew it.

Sitting in the restaurant lingers even after they were both finished eating. Just letting their food settle for a while felt good and it helped spend the time before any movies would start anyway.

"Okay..." Jason looks at his phone after he'd looked up showtimes on the internet. "We've got... a comedy that looks really stupid... a love story that I haven't heard of... another comedy that might be okay... something that looks like a family drama.... and an action flick with super heroes."

Looking to Misty, he reaches his phone across to her so she could see. "Take your pick."

Dani's giggling only increases as she's poked, tensing as Dalton's finger tickles her. "Yes! Yes, I'm gonna make it. Stop poking me, ya big galah."

Realizing she'd just sounded like Carson, she scrunches her nose, another giggle slipping out. Finally lowering her hands so her flushed face is exposed, she rolls her eyes. "Help me up. I think I broke a toe."

Smiling at Katie's directions to Neverland and feeling her arms tighten, Hunter brings a hand to hers, giving it a squeeze before gripping the handlebars again. "Think happy thoughts..." Maybe they really could fly.

Turning right, Hunter just keeps on driving. It was a gorgeous day and if they hadn't  been on the bike, jackets certainly wouldn't be needed - but that was his rule. Long pants, jackets and helmets. He might be a risk taker, but he never compromised on those. Even so, the wind was cool, keeping the two riders from feeling the full warmth of the sun.

Time seemed to stand still for a while as curves were taken and hills were conquered. Eventually though, Hunter knows they needed to head to the ranch. Slowing at another intersection, he stops and sighs. "Gas gauge says we need to start aiming to the ranch. But I really am lost now so you're gonna have to tell me which way to go."

He chuckles and reaches back to give Katie's leg a teasing tweak. "Unless you want to run out of gas and have a nice long walk."

Miss Graceful

Heading down the road about as fast as they had come Katie once again enjoys herself very much. Though she wasn't scared of riding, or going fast Katie tightens her grib around Hunter slightly because she simply can. Leaning with Hunter around the twist and turns Katie can't help the small laugh that slipped out. Free...this is what it felt like, to be free and fly.

Coming to the intersection Katie looks left, and than looks right. She new left would be on the path back to the ranch but was she ready to go back? It wasn't a bad thing she wanted to have a little more fun and just get away from everything right?

"Right and straight on till morning, go and never look back. Right sounds good to me."

Katie gives Hunter a little squeeze to indicate a little hug. Life was to short for regrets there was only looking forward. From something bad, comes something good and having Hunter to make her feel better was something good.

"Hey no its not my fault I like food. I'm big boned you know."

Dalton gives a cheese grin as she starts to sit up himself. As Dani starts to trip and whacks her food Dalton does all he can to try and catch her but it was to late and the way he was sitting there was just no way.

Blinking Dalton trys to hold a laugh in but can't. A chuckle slipping out he peeks over the one caution of the seat. Trying his best to not keep laughing he gasp for air.

   "Are...are you ok babe?"

Dalton know Dani must be royal embarrassed he would of been too for sure. But he wanted to make sure she was ok and didn't hurt her foot to horrible bad. Reaching his hand down and poking her belly Dalton does it a few times.

   "Hey...Hey you...Miss Graceful...ya gonna make it?"

Misty laughs as she takes a sip of her water and looks across the table at Jason. A twinkle in her eyes as she couldn't help but have a good time. Jason's sense of humor, his laugh was infectious and she couldn't help but have a good time. Dinner, no movie yet and she was already having a blast.

"Ah so now your secret has been given away and if I get kicked under a long table, I'll know who it was."

Going back to her food Misty moves the salad and cheese around on he plate alone with some stabbing a peace of meat. Putting it in her mouth and savoring the taste once again.

Hearing Jason's phone go off she looks at him inquisitively. Hearing it was her uncle she can't help but chuckle as she leans back in the chair. Reese always had great timing and this just proved it once again. Finishing the food that was in her mouth Misty whips her lips before speaking.

"Maybe he saw us leave together and wants to have the talk with you!"

Just for Spite

Hunter laughs and steers the motorcycle in the opposite direction from where they'd come earlier. "You might not get lost, but I might, and I'm driving. So technically we can get lost."

Driving amidst traffic for a few minutes, Hunter eventually gets onto a road that takes them out of town. It seemed to be a nice quiet road with some leisurely curves and hills. Perfect. Not knowing or caring if they were heading back towards the ranch or not, he shifts gears, pushing the bike to a higher speed. And within seconds, freedom was again felt.

Bent forward, Hunter couldn't imagine anything that could feel better. Top speed on a motorcycle... with Katie hanging on to him. And he smiles.

Eventually he's forced to slow as they approach a new intersection and he brings the bike to a stop, balancing it with one foot on the ground as the engine idles. "Okay, navigator... left or right now?"

"I'm beginning to think food in general is your weakness," Dani teases. Grinning, she finally rolls off of Dalton, sliding from the couch. What she had in mind was gracefully rolling over to set her feet on the floor and stand up. But what happens in reality is one foot slamming into the coffee table and not only sending pain through her toes, but throwing her off balance as well.

Just halfway to standing up, she gives a little wail before her arms and legs go flying. In the end, she's on her back on the floor between the couch and coffee table, wide-eyed and almost dazed. Until she starts to giggle. Then laugh.

Covering up her red face, she can't regain enough control to even sit up, let alone face Dalton after that royally embarrassing move. Though her foot throbs, all she can do is lay there and laugh.

As Jason's foot is bumped, he looks up quickly then grins at her apology. "It's okay. I'm used to it. Not because it's other people's fault though. It's me and my idiotically long legs."

He slides his foot forward until he feels Misty's again, giving it a teasing nudge. "It does come in handy though when there's more people at a table and I can reach just about anybody but they don't know who just bumped them and nobody's brave enough to ask."

It wasn't often that Jason was self-conscious about his height. Or... maybe it was just that he hid it well when it did bother him. Having someone like Misty never draw attention to it though did help, whether she knew it or not.

Hearing his cell phone start to buzz, he rolls his eyes and retrieves his phone from his pocket. "It's the office..." Thinking for a moment, he shakes his head. "I'm off duty." Ignoring the call, he puts the phone back away again and picks up his fork once more. "Besides, if Reese found out I was at dinner with his niece, he might give me extra paperwork tomorrow just for spite."

The shed was far from clean, though Alec had made a nice dent in the work at least. He'd taken Misty's note seriously and even though he'd slept later than planned, he'd started work as soon as he'd been awake enough. There was a bunch of old stuff out there... old tools... and mostly junk. It looked like maybe Carson had started cleaning it out at one time or maybe started to use it for his own tool shed, but for some reason, the project had been abandoned. A couple windows were broken... there was running water but work needed to be done on the pluming. At least the lights still worked, which had helped. After most of the day had been spent out there, Alec guessed maybe a third of the work cleaning was done. Maybe. It was a larger task than the backyard had been, for sure.

Now though, after he'd quit from sheer exhaustion, it was getting late in the evening and he was bent over the bathroom sink. The water swirling down the sink is crimson, stained from Alec's bleeding palm. He'd cut it on something out in the shed earlier - some rusty old tool or something - might have been that saw blade he'd found. No matter what it was, at the time, he'd just wrapped an old rag around his hand and kept going. But now that it had been a few hours, it was throbbing quite nicely. And once he'd started to clean it, it had started bleeding again - and much more than anticipated.

Grimacing as he tries to make sure he has all the dirt cleaned out, it really did hurt like the dickens. Even worse was that it had cut right through the old scar from Carson's knife. Reminded of the infection thereafter and how sick he'd been, Alec digs a little deeper with the washcloth, gritting his teeth against the pain.

Eventually shutting off the water, he grabs several tissues to hold against the wound to at least contain the blood while he hunted for some antiseptic or anything similar, and something to bandage with.

Half an hour later, sweat was running down Alec's neck - more from frustration than anything. He'd found the antiseptic - which had burned like no tomorrow - and he'd found a box of bandaids. But the bandaids apparently weren't enough, and after soaking several of them through, he'd finally given that up and folded several paper towels from the kitchen and taped them to his hand with some scotch tape he'd found in the drawer. It was a mess, for sure, but it was the best he could do without scouring the whole house and he really didn't feel comfortable looking through Misty's things for bandages.

Even more exhausted now, Alec finds himself on the couch, rather than at the refrigerator like his stomach wanted. He'd skipped lunch already but he was too tired from this stupid fiasco to try and find supper. He could survive until breakfast. For now... he just wanted a nap.

Bump?

Heading outside Katie was sad to leave Jeff but on the other hand happy she got to ride on the bike with Hunter. Getting "lost" sounded like fun and just and extra way to get her mind detracted. It was definitely not something she minded to much at the moment.

"I think getting lost with you for a little while sounds like a better plan than going back to the ranch at the moment."

Putting her helmet on and than mounting the bike Katie leans into Hunter wrapping her arms around him. She found this rather comfortable and not awkward feeling at all, maybe it helped she had been on a bike before but a much different style. If asked what one she liked better it would be hard to choose.

"Though I don't know if its really considered getting lost when any way you take I can pretty much tell you how to get back to the ranch without back tracking."

Feeling someone move on top of him Dalton doesn't stir to much. He remembered where he was, and who he was with but the feeling of just being so comfortable had taken over and he didn't want to move at all and rune that.

As Dani comes up and gives him a kiss Dalton can't resist kissing her back. It was just not possible at all for him to do that. Even if he did want to pretend he was sleeping so he could stay in this very spot it was just not possible at all.

"Mmm....I like pie as much as the next guy but that would mean we would have to get up and I am so comfortable."

Finally opening one eye and than the other he smiles down at Dani. Bring his hand to her face he just run it over her cheek her skin so soft under his touch.

"Alright you found my weakness besides you...pie!"

As the water brings the food Misty can almost feel her mouth really water. Looking down at her peta it really did look better than it had in her head. She couldn't wait to dig into the salad, peta, meat, feta...this baby was going to have good taste for food if it was the last thing she did.

Looking up at Jason Misty gives a laugh but lingers on his words for a moment. She could pick where they eat more often. Did he mean they would be eating a lot together? If they were she didn't mind at all she loved Jason's company.

"When it comes to Greek food I really don't think there is much you can order that doesn't taste good. And I just like eating diverse things so it doesn't get boring."

Picking up her knife and fork Misty doesn't wast another moment talking as she digs in. Savoring every bit as if it might be the last one one the plate. It had been a long time since Misty had, had this and it tasted amazing.

Finishing the bite she had in her mouth she looks across the table at Jason again giving a smile. Bumping his food on mistake her eyes widen a little bit before she gives a little laugh and taps his food again.

   "Sorry about that."

Get Lost

"Yeah..." Jason was glad Alec hadn't been more traumatized than he had. "I'll tell anybody with confidence that I've got full control over that dog but... he still has a mind I haven't been able to figure out. I wish Reese would let him back on the force. I know he's caused some trouble but... it's not because he's mean. It's obvious he always chooses to act how he thinks he should... just sometimes direct orders don't make sense and when that happens, he gets in trouble."

Like attacking Alec - he'd only been protecting Jason. Like biting Hal - he'd only been protecting Thirteen. Jason sighs, truly missing having his dog working alongside him. But there wasn't much he could do. And unfortunately, he knew that no matter how well-behaved he could get Trooper, there was always that chance that the dog would take the logical route, regardless of orders. But not all orders were logical and that's where things could potentially go sour.

"Oh, well." Jason lets the subject drop, knowing that it would only go in circles. Sitting back as the waiter returns with the food, he takes a deep breath over his plate. "Mmm... this smells good."

And it tasted good too. Misty had made a good choice and after a prayer and taking a few bites, Jason nods. "You're a good picker." He laughs. "I ought to have you pick where to eat more often."

The credits of the movie roll by as dramatic music plays. Dani's eyes flutter open and she realizes that she had indeed missed almost the entire movie. Surely she hadn't been asleep all that long though.

Feeling her head slowly rise and fall, a smile spreads on her lips. She was still with Dalton. He hadn't woken her - he was such a sweetheart.

Yawning, she stretches a little and turns, putting her arms under her chin, still on his chest, and watches his face for a moment. Leaning up, she gives him just a little kiss on the lips before sliding back down again. "Psst..." she whispers. "Do you still want some pie?"

Jeff chuckles and returns Katie's hug and kiss on the cheek. "I love you too, Kiddo." Giving her a silly look, he smirks. "What? Me cause trouble?" He shakes his head. "On the contrary, there's a hot nurse on this floor - her name is Linda. Maybe if I behave myself, she'll take Mark's place."

The nurse who was in the room throws him a shooting glare and swats his arm. "That'll be enough of that, Mr. Pent. You're not supposed to get all excited, remember?"

Jeff stifles a laugh, giving Katie an amused look that the nurse can't see. "Get going. I'll see you tomorrow."

Hunter waves and nods. "Later, Jeff."

"Yeah. Take it easy on them roads now, ya hear?"

Hunter chuckles and nods. "You bet."

Heading outside with Katie, and getting to the bike, he gives her the extra helmet once more before donning his own. Mounting up and waiting until Katie was on too, he revs up the engine and aims for the road. Stopping at the intersection though, he looks both ways. "We can head back," he muses. "Or... we could get 'lost' which would take us much longer to get back to the ranch..."

Comfortable

Just letting Dani get comfortable Dalton didn't mind at all. She was light enough to that it didn't hurt for her to lay on him like she was and even if it did he would probley never say anything about it. He liked it to much and there was no awkward feeling attached.

Feeling Dani's breath become a little more shallow Dalton can't help the smile that became a little bigger now on his lips. Shifting just a little bit he looks at the tv to watch the movie but soon his eyes become heavy too.

He didn't want to go through not yet. He was to comfortable so he would rest here for a little while. He could always wake Dani in a little bit and than he could go home. Right now it was to nice just feeling her close to him. Soon his own eyes drifted shut.

Sitting at the restront Misty gives a glance around. It seemed nice here, it was clean and atmosphere seemed light and cheery. She had always hoped a nice Greek place had been put in and now it seemed like they had she was happy.

Helping Jason pick something out Misty does her best to explain what each thing is, how its cooked and a few of the spices that are on it. She wasn't an expert but she could deffinitly good by and only after a short time did they both have there orders placed.

Taking a sip of her OJ and hearing Jason's comment Misty thinks for a long moment. Alec really hadn't said anything to her about it but if she had to guess she would say the whole thing turned out alright. Maybe just maybe Alec wouldn't fear Trooper to much now.

"I'm not to sure. He really didn't say anything to me about it. By the end of the night though it seemed he was a little more comfortable So I think thats good."

Misty new Jason had forgotten and it had been an honest mistake but maybe it was a mistake that had done some good. In the long run everything worked out, everything was ok and it still had been a great night.

Giving a little cringe and shaking her head Katie didn't want to think about Jeff getting a bath. She couldn't image how embarrassing that would be. Though she doesn't say anything she just smiles as she stands.

"I guess we should go and save ourselves. Want us to pick you up tomorrow? I promise we will drive me car and not the bike."

Laughing Katie bends down to Jeff and gives him a kiss and a soft hug. She did hate having to say goodby to him. Over the course of her short life already she had seen the inside of a hospital to much. but that was just part of life she guessed.

"I love you Dad. Don't cause to much trouble for the nurses your last night."

Mark

Dani smiles through Dalton's last string of kisses before being brought in and held tightly. Sliding her arms around his neck, she burrows into him, hiding her face in his neck and just enjoying the sensation of being wrapped in his arms. She just felt so... safe. Everything about him, she loved. She loved how warm he was. She loved his heart. She loved the tantalizing scent of his cologne. She loved his voice. His kisses. His hugs. Standing next to him, he seemed a giant, and she loved that too. Would there ever be a time when they wouldn't have to part? When they wouldn't have to say goodbye at the end of the day? She wondered.

For now though, she was content, collecting as many of these moments as she could, as long as Dalton would have her.

"Mmm..." She sighs deeply, cuddling in even more. "I've seen the movie five times already anyway," she mumbles.

Feeling the rise and fall of Dalton's breath beneath her, she felt so relaxed... so warm. Scooting down a little so her head was resting on his chest, she intertwines her legs with his, stuffing one foot down between the couch cushions for extra coziness. Hearing his heartbeat, she smiles. Letting him comb his one hand through her hair, she finds his other with her fingers, just wanting to hold his hand so she could feel him.

Though trying to see part of the movie, her eyelids grow so heavy, and she gives in, just closing her eyes. She knew she was falling asleep. But he'd wake her up when he wanted, she was sure...

Jason gives a little roll of his eyes, thinking about Rick. During the last couple weeks, there were a few times Jason hadn't felt so great, and Rick had discovered Jason's blood sugar starting to act up again. Though in the past the biggest problem had been crashes, Rick wanted to keep a close eye on him and monitor what was going on, so he'd told Jason to just eat normally but avoid too many sweets because he wanted to see if Jason's body was compensating or not, and if he had too much sugar, Rick wouldn't be able to tell if he'd crash on a normal day or not. Needless to say, Jason listened... most of the time.

"Greek, huh?" He nods in agreement. "You'll have to help me order though - I've never been to a Greek restaurant before..."

Offering to drive, they leave Misty's car at TJY for now, and Jason has her tell him which way to go since he wasn't sure where the new place was. Once there and settled with a little bit of help ordering something that sounded good, the evening was already starting to be enjoyable.

Waiting for their food, Jason sips his water and leans back in his chair, just looking across at Misty. Did she think it as strange as he, that the two of them were out to eat together? It felt so odd and out of place, yet... it felt so relaxing and peaceful too. There were just... no walls. And as Jason's emotions became more clear every day, he was enjoying Misty's company more and more, feeling the good emotions and learning to recognize and embrace them. If he'd noticed one thing, it was that he could find the most good emotions when being around her. Which, again, seemed rather odd, yet... he didn't mind. What was only recently forbidden territory was now... available.

Grinning, he fishes a piece of ice out of his glass with his tongue to suck on. "So... I forgot to ask earlier - was Alec okay after that whole Trooper thing? I honestly forgot about his fear of dogs and how Trooper had attacked him once."

Hunter's eyes twinkle with humor as Katie talks about the garbage can. "We would have laughed..."

"...and then helped you out," Jeff finishes, trying not to laugh. Her suggestion to go riding once he was home brings a nod. "Yeah... I... don't know long it'll be 'til I'm not so tired, but..." In his mind, he recalls the word Hunter had just told him. He didn't want to upset Katie anymore. Maybe he'd already known she was that upset, but he really had selfishly ignored it. Maybe she'd been right that he'd just been thinking about himself. The last person on earth he wanted to upset was his daughter - especially now that she was struggling so much with what was going on inside of her anyway.

For a moment, a sad look passes through his gaze before he forces another smile at Katie. "But as soon as I get enough rest and I've got Angel's approval, I'd love to go for that ride. In the meantime, you better get this boy's hind end in a saddle so you and I don't ride clean away from him."

"Hey now." Hunter straightens in mock defense. "I'm... I'm... well, I know the front end of a horse from the hind end at least!"

Jeff grins. "Okay, we'll be nice."

"Good." Hunter nods with satisfaction. "Besides, Mick promised me a riding lesson to see if I can get back in the swing of things."

"Oh yeah? Well that'll be good."

"Mr. Pent..." A nurse enters the room and smiles sweetly. "Time to check things over, then Mark will be in."

Jeff gives Hunter and Katie a sidelong glance before smirking in annoyance. "Mark is the resident bather."

Hunter bites his lip to keep from laughing. "I'll take that as a cue to leave you be then."

Jeff clears his throat and nods. "Yeah... it would probably be in your best interest."

Missed Movie

As Dani comes back once again with another kiss Dalton can't help but feel the warmth on his skin to get even hotter. The was her hands felt, the way she fit in his arms, the softness of her kiss that still held such a powerful touch to it...it all was just perfect.

Starting to feel Dani's soft kisses to his jaw, than ear, than neck Dalton can't help the murmur of satisfaction that escaped his lips as he felt a chill run down his spine too. The feelings that rushed of him, happiness, contentment, love and a pure joy for a woman who love him as much as he loved her. It was a dream Dalton once had to be in love that he thought would never come true till he met Dani.

   "Mmmmm...this...this is the...kind of...thinking...I like and could....do all day."

Returning himself for a few more kiss Dalton's hand continues to rub Dani's back before he finally pulls away and gives her a big smile. A trickle of sweat running down his face. Tightening his arms around her a little bit to bring her into a hug Dalton leans his head against hers taking a whif of her shampoo and closing his eyes slightly.

"I think we missed most of the movie...not that I am complaining."

Letting his fingers find her hair Dalton gently combs through it as he holds her close. Dalton loved the exciting moments, but he liked the soft moments too. Just knowing he was in charge of keeping this woman safe, that she trusted him to keep her safe. Dalton had thought it many times before but he couldn't help just thinking again how lucky he was.

Misty can't help but laugh at Jason's comment smiling. Signing off on a peace of paper work Misty pits it in her outbox before closing another folder and putting it into the file box behind her. Standing and coming over to Jason she puts her hands on her hip and taps her foot.

"Rick already would kill me if he found out I like you eat s'mores last night, I think maybe a small tub of popcorn and a good meal might make up for it."

Honesly Misty had no idea where she wanted to eat. She'd been having some odd cravings because of the baby and everything sounded good to her. She had promised to pick a place though as long as Jason helped her pick the movie.

"How about we eat at that Greek restront that just opened up a few months back. Athens I think that name is. Haven't had some good Greek food in a long while."

"Oh yeah? And if I did fall into the garbage can would you have laughed at me or help him? Hmmmm?"

Sitting down Katie nudges Hunter's foot with her own.  She was happy they had come. Seeing Jeff smile a few times while here really was worth it in the long run. They say laughter is the best medicine and if she was good at making people laugh.

"So I was thinking...maybe after you come home if your feeling up to it maybe the three of us could take a nice leisure ride into the mountains. It's one of the best hideaways and I think it would be fun. What do you guys think?"

Thinking

Jeff smirks a little, but his eyes give away a teasing glint. He would just about bet anything that Hunter drove fast whether he was racing or not. But as long as he was doing it safely, Jeff was glad Katie could at least have some fun. And he certainly wouldn't tell on them.

Hunter's own expression had turned a bit sheepish as he concentrates on his sandwich. Katie's comment though snaps his gaze back up. "I have you know that my pants never have, nor ever will be smart." He taps his head. "All those brains are mine."

Jeff chuckles and rolls his eyes. "Case in point."

Hunter just grins and takes another bite of sub, giving Katie a silly look.

It wasn't too long before everyone had finished their subs - not long enough, if it was going to end their time together. But as Katie clears up the leftover trash and goes to find a garbage can, Hunter takes advantage of staying in the room alone with Jeff for just a few moments, hoping for an open door to talk to him.

Seated in the chair, he studies Jeff, cocking his head slightly.

Jeff catches his eye and wonders what's going through the young man's mind. "So... what do you think of the ranch?"

"I like it." Hunter's response didn't take much thought. "It's peaceful. Just like Katie described."

"Mmm... it always has been. I give Rosetta credit for that." Pausing, Jeff chews the inside of his lip, mulling over his thoughts. "How's Katie doing?" It might seem an odd question, but though he knew Katie was struggling lately, he wondered if Hunter had any different insights.

Hunter takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "I think she'll be okay. Seeing her out here is different. I think it's good for her." He pauses, wondering if this was the chance he'd been waiting for. "She's... pretty worried about you, ya know."

Jeff sighs and gives a half roll of his eyes. "Everybody is."

"No, seriously." Hunter's tone had grown firmer. "I don't pretend to know what it's like to have a good relationship with one's father. But I can tell Katie adores you. And I may not have known her long, but this is the first time I've seen her this scared." He pauses, pursing his lips. "I know something like a heart attack can't necessarily be helped - you didn't mean for it to happen. But it's really stressing out Katie... especially when she thinks you're not going to take care of yourself when you get back home."

Jeff glances down for a moment, toying with the bedsheet. He hadn't meant to worry people, least of all Katie. He hadn't meant to make things worse for her, and it made him feel awful to think he was just adding to her already-huge amount of stress. "You don't pull any punches, do you?"

"No, sir. Never have, never will. I make a lot of risky bets, but one bet I know for sure is that the truth and honesty are always best."

Jeff's gaze rises once more and he studies Hunter's face. "You must really care about Katie to tell me all this."

Hunter swallows hard. "She's a good friend."

"Are you a good friend to her?"

Hunter wonders now who's not pulling punches. "I make a lot of mistakes... and I've made some stupid moves, but... I'm doing my best to be a good friend to her. She's too special to lose."

"Now that... we agree on."

Hunter mirrors Jeff's smile, getting the sudden feeling that Katie's father approved of him. Why, he wasn't sure - Hunter figured he wasn't the type that others would trust, especially with someone they cared about like Katie. But they all seemed to accept him. Was it Katie's word they were going on? Or... did they somehow see past all the trouble he'd gotten himself into in order to hide from the world? He wondered.

Hearing Katie reenter the room, the conversation is dropped and Hunter looks up at her, still smiling. "Thought maybe you fell into the garbage can or something. We were ready to come looking for you."

Five. Jason shuts down his computer and stands, stretching. For once, he wasn't tired after work. He'd slept well the night before after such a fun evening, and having this evening to look forward to too was.... well, maybe it was just motivation to not want to just go home and sack out on the couch.

Wandering from his office, he heads down the hall to the infirmary and sees the door open. The room was void of Rick though, and Jason enters, ambling towards Misty's desk. "So did you decide where we're going to eat?"

Sitting on the edge of her desk, he gives her a silly grin. "Unless you wanted to see a double feature tonight instead and pig out on pop corn. But... that's not always the healthiest choice. Not that... I've ever done that..."

Dani giggles again, nudging Dalton's knee with her bare foot. "I like thinking..."

Leaving her hands to slide through his hair, she accepts his kiss again, murmuring her pleasure. Feeling his arms around her. His warmth. His protection. His love. She could stay like this forever.

She'd never be one to say she'd had a hard life, or a bad one. But looking back from where she was today, she could see many holes that she hadn't realized existed. And one of them, Dalton was filling, whether he realized it or not. Haunted with memories of the past, he chased them all away, giving her reason to keep moving... keep walking... keep loving and accepting love.

Moving her lips from his, she kisses him lightly up his jawline to his ear then trailing down his neck as her hands move to tuck around his shoulders. Coming up for air, she returns to his lips, speaking softly between deep kisses. "Is this... the kind of... thinking..." She cocks her head to continue her passionate affection, her foot teasingly running down his leg. "...you were... thinking about?"

Waiting

Sitting down and eating her sub Katie take a bit before closing her eyes and leaning back a little. She had always loved the taste of the ranches homemade food. Trying to explain it to someone was never the same as eating it. She was happy now Hunter got to enjoy it as well and know what she meant.

Hearing the mention of the motorcycle Katie smile before looking to her dad and giving a small sheepish look. She could never lie to him even if it was to make him feel better, but she didn't want to come right out and say Hunter speeded either.

   "I am sure he does.."

Katie lowers her voice as she is about to take another bit of her sub.

   "Sometimes."

Looking away and to Hunter Katie can't help the smile. She really was happy her was here, and he was giving her a reason to smile. He just seemed to have a knack for that. And when she was down...his friendship was just there to help her once again proving that even if he had his own problems he was the right choose for a friend.

"So yes, I don't think I'd even kick Hunter out by the way. I kinda like having him around even when he's a smarty pants."

After having one more s'more and feeling sleepy but not ready to call it a night she leans back in the grass and uses Trooper as a pillow. Not very comfortable but it would do. Looking up at the starts and watching a few Misty lays her hands on her stomach just listing to the music and letting it lull her.

The time flys by and as Misty almost fall asleep she know she better call it a night or she wont make it home with Alec. Sitting her her gives a stretch and stands just trying to shake the tiredness off.

"Well my dear friends, I hate to call it a night but I am whooped. I really had a great time though...so thanks."

...Work the next say was pretty normal and seemed to only inch by. Misty had left a note for Alec when she had gotten up before she. It told him she wouldn't be home for dinner tonight but there were left overs in the fridge and he could help himself to anything. Also she asked if he could clean out the shed and almost everything in there could be thrown out.

Sitting behind her desk now and continuing to look at the clock Misty just wanted five to come and soon. She wanted to go to dinner and a movie with Jason and was excited about it. They would be leaving from work so all she could do was wait for those slow hands to tick.

As Dalton is moved around a little bit and Dani lays on top of him he can't help but let his smile grow even more. Receiving Dani's kiss he could feel his pulse start to race. Just letting his own passion escape as his arms go around Dani. The his one hand making its way to the back of her head and his other rubbing her back gently.

"Well I am glad you know better than just thinking but...if I can get another kiss out of it you can continue to think."

Dalton gives a grin before leaning up to Dani again and giving her another kiss. This time letting it last even longer he back away a little just turning his head and than coming close once more. Goosebumps cover his skin as he keeps Dani close just continue the exchange.

Know

"Mmm..." Dani giggles as Dalton pulls away, her hand resting on his arm. "I think I love you too."

Giving him a mischievous grin, she shifts around, making him lie on his back as she slides over on top of him. Still grinning as she leans on his chest, her eyes twinkle in the dim light cast by the television. Slipping her hands up over his shoulders, her fingers run up the sides of his face before raking back through his hair.

Without saying anything, she leans down to kiss his lips as her fingers continue to comb his hair. Letting her spontaneous moment of passion last for a few long moments, she finally withdraws to let him catch his breath.

Smiling brightly, she shakes her head. "Naw... I don't think. I know I love you too."

The sun will always shine...
Would it? Alec wondered. It didn't feel like the sun was shining very much in his world lately. He was grateful beyond words for Misty's help, and even Jason's acceptance of him. But aside from those things... his world still seemed very dim. Would he ever rise above again? Would he ever regain what he'd lost? Be able to face the world with the confidence he'd owned before? He just wasn't sure of anything anymore.

Catching Misty's gaze as he plays, Jason's smile returns. Watching her sit by the fire was somehow a peaceful picture that he wanted to remember. He'd had fun tonight, even with Alec around and Trooper's shenanigans. And he was already looking forward to tomorrow night.

Teasing Katie mercilessly as he helps her create the subs, Hunter can only grin at her, loving the banter, and also knowing that keeping Jeff smiling was a good thing too.

"Sheesh, finally." Hunter grabs the paper plates. "What took you so long?"

"She wants to torture me with seeing the food but not being able to eat it," Jeff quips. He grins though, and tosses Katie a wink. He was hungry, but far from starving.

Once they're all settled in with their food, Jeff nods his approval. "Good stuff. Thanks, Katie."

"Yeah, okay," Hunter agrees, chewing his own bite. "I guess it's pretty good."

Jeff chuckles and takes a sip of water. "I don't know, Kiddo..." He looks to Katie with a quirked eyebrow. "You may not be able to stand this guy if he sticks around the ranch too long. You might need to kick him out here pretty soon."

"Naw." Hunter interrupts. "She knows if she does that, she won't get anymore motorcycle rides from me."

"Ah. I forgot about that." He gives his daughter a sidelong glance. "He stays within the speed limit, I'm sure..."

...you know that?

Watching as he goes back to strumming on the guitar and listing to him sing Misty continues to smiles. Loud was good but soft sometimes was even better. The lulling music making her sway a little. The sound was so soft, so nice, it was Jason's way of sharing how he felt without even knowing it.

Taking the bag and getting her own marshmallow's from Alec Misty shakes her head a little bit. She was again happy that it seemed Alec was having fun. It was something they all needed and she was thankful they could help him while helping themselves too.

"It seems you have the knack for roasting the marshmallow's too. Most people burn them till they are black the first few times but you...you have the nice coloring to it."

Putting her own marshmallow over the fire Misty turns it slowly getting a nice even color around it till it was in black almost. Not seeming upset about it Misty places it between the gram cracker and chocolate. Taking a bit and giving a merer of satisfaction Misty looks to Alec again.

"I however...have always liked mine extra crispy as long as the middle is still gooey."

As Alec draws closer to her Misty looks to him and gives a soft smile followed by a nod. What more could she ask for it was the prefect night and she was glad everything when welll. Even with Troopers little episode.

"You're very welcome Alec. I am happy you enjoyed yourself. I like having fellowship with my friends its really refreshing and reminds me that the sun will always shine."

Looking back to Jason and smiling her eyes giving a twinkle Misty takes another bite of her s'more than looks back to the fire. This had been...a good night.

Laying on the couch and having Dani tucked in front of him Dalton keeps his arm around her. He liked feeling her in his arms and cuddles up next to her. It made him feel good and in a way...it made him feel safe too. Dani had been the best thing that had happened to him in a long time and he couldn't help but think maybe God had this planned all along.

"I definitely don't want to miss out on those kisses but...it's so comfortable right here I make no promises that I wont fall asleep myself."

Lifting himself up a little bit Dalton leans over Dani and rubs his nose against her before leaning closer and pressing his lips against hers. Letting it linger for a long moment he finally pulls away with a twinkle in his eye.

"I love you so much you know that!"

"Psht, you gotta be kidding me...this tastes better than subway."

Katie points the knife at Hunter for a second looking quiet stern though in her eyes layed a little bit of humor.

"Better not let anyone at the ranch know you said that about the homemade rolls though. They might think you detest them and that my friend might not go over big."

Giving a big smile and going back to work on the subs Katie's eyes continue to twinkle as she works putting everything together. As Hunter comes up next to her Katie gives him a little shove back with her hip.

"Didn't you know asking a woman if she can cook is dangerous....however you can help if you want."

Continuing to work along side Hunter they pump out a few subs without to much trouble but the humor was continued as Katie tried to keep things light. She wanted to at least put a smile on her dads face even if it was a little one.

   "Alright boys...we can now feast."

Risky Business

As Misty holds his hand for a moment, Jason lets his fingers curl around hers. He did care about her... and he knew that she understood that.

Glancing back up as she does, his own soft smile forms. As she retreats though, he just stays where he is, watching her... trying to figure out what these feelings he had meant. His worst fear was misinterpreting what he felt since emotions still felt somewhat numb part of the time. But gauging Misty's response... he'd done no wrong and... what he felt was mutual.

Finally letting the whole thing drop for now, Jason stands and brushes himself off, walking the few feet to where he'd left his guitar. Easing back down under the tree, he plucks a few strings before retuning a couple by ear. Picking another relaxing song, he plays and sings quietly. He wanted to play for Misty - not the whole park.

Catching Misty's glance, Alec smirks at her. "Yeah, don't leave me alone too long with this stuff - I'm addicted already." Only after snitching another couple marshmallows does he let her have the bag.

Roasting two on the end of his stick, he waits until they're brown before pulling them back from the fire. Content just with them, it's an awfully sticky, ooey-gooey mess, but as he licks his fingers, he realizes that it's kinda fun.

Scooting over on the grass nearer Misty, he gives her an inquisitive look before tackling his second marshmallow. He didn't say anything though. He didn't ask. It really was none of his business, even if he was curious. Rethinking his speech, he simply thanks her instead. "Thanks for having me come with you guys tonight. It's been fun."

Dani looks over at Dalton and smiles, grateful for his support. It really did mean a lot to her. "Thanks, Dalton. I know I can always count on you."

Eventually the dark topic of Carson is dismissed and forgotten, leaving the lighthearted chatter once more. When dinner is finished, Dani opts to wait a while for dessert since they were both full, and a movie is popped in to watch.

Settling in on the couch with Dalton, Dani curls himself in front of him, letting him drape his arm around her. Feeling his chest on her back and his strong arm holding her, she felt safe... protected. He was like a big blanket to keep her warm and ward away the shadows of the night.

"Don't let me fall asleep," she muses. "If you do, you'll probably miss out on several kisses at least, along with that pie."

Hunter laughs at Katie's enthusiasm. "I feel like I'm at Subway. I didn't know they made house calls."

Jeff grins and shakes his head. "You know what I like... just throw a little of everything on there. I guarantee it's better than what I had for breakfast."

"Anything is better than hospital food," Hunter agrees. For a brief moment, the image of the hospital back home flashes through his mind, and his friend lying in bed after the accident. And again, he felt the pangs of guilt for his recklessness that had hurt somebody.

Realizing he was staring at the floor, he snaps up his gaze and stands, coming to help Katie. Snitching a little piece of cheese that had broken off a slice, he elbows her. "You sure you know what you're doing? Making subs is risky business."

Is best

Misty's gaze doesn't break Jason's, she continues to study the depth of his eyes. The warmth that just seemed to blanket her Misty didn't want to go away and if she broke her gaze would it? Would this moment be over, gone in the wind to never be spoken about again? There friendship remaining as it always had.

Feeling Jason's fingers on her own Misty finally looks down. His touch so soft, so light, one might think because he played the guitar his hands would be rough with callouses but they went at all. They were the complete opposite.

"Music...yes I think more music would be lovely."

Closing her fingers around Jason's for a second Misty just holds his hand. There was something about him that was so different, something about them, there friendship, and the feelings that ran deeper. And so the though lingered as Misty's fingers ran over Jason's hand for a second.

Finally looking up at him again Misty gives a smile. Letting go of his hands she lets her fingers brush over his before she retreats back to her seat. Looking over to Alec she gives another smile and than looks to Jason again now with a silly little grin on her lips.

"I guess this would be a good time to make my own s'more before they are all gone."

Giving a small nod Dalton picks up his drink and swirls the ice around in the liquid for a moment before taking a sip. He understood what Dani meant even though he'd never been in that situation before. He could see the pain as clear as day on her face though and his made his own heart hurt.

"Yeah, I get what your saying Dani."

Maybe one day she would be able to have some kind of relationship with her brother again. Even if it was small talk here and there at least it would be something even if at this point Carson didn't deserve it.

"Well no matter what you deiced Babe I am behind you one it. You're a smart woman and I know you will do what you think is best."

Turning to look at Hunter a little bit Katie listen's to his story. She wondered what the moral was behind it or what it even had to do with everything going on. Not stopping him though Katie herself just keeps listing. By the end of the story she was nodding her own head. She'd found the meaning and understood it.

   "Mmmm..."

Giving a smile and nod to Hunter Katie was pleased. Hearing Jeff's comment she turns back to him and gives yet another nod. Today she almost felt like a bobble head with all the head bobbing.

"He sure is, a smart one too once you get through that thick outside layer."

As Hunter changes the subject Katie could tell he was feeling slightly uncomfortable with the spot light being pointed on him or maybe it was the simple fact he didn't want the point of his message to be over looked.

Just moving along with him Katie stands and goes back to where she had placed everything out. Giving a smile and pointing to each item she says what it is along with the fresh sub rolls that still smelled of so good.

"Alright boys what are ya having...tell me and you wish shall be done!"

7/3/12

Palm

Misty's hand on Jason's cheek brings heat to his face, but he doesn't pull away. Her touch was so soft...gentle. He'd always seen her as so rough and tumble - a kick butt chick. But right now in this short moment, he knew he was gazing on a tenderhearted woman. What was happening between them? Was this just something in the heat of the moment that would be gone in the morning? Was this how they truly felt about each other?

For a mere second Jason recalls the one kiss he had shared with Misty oh so long ago. There had been no doubt that they liked each other. Been attracted to each other. Some might call it chemistry. But they had known that they had different paths to take - and so they had parted to remain only as friends. And it was a friendship that had stayed as such - respectful of each other, and never daring to approach any lines, much less cross any.

But what about now? What about now when Jason had been left on his own, dealt a broken, lonely heart? What about now when Misty's husband had left her and she was going through a divorce to finalize the break and be her own woman again? They had no one else. They had no other paths that would dictate their actions. But... did that mean they were really free enough to show each other affection? Jason's heart skips a beat.

Having some marshmallow wiped from his face, he grins and finishes his mouthful, licking some chocolate off his lips. It only takes another bite or two to finish the s'more, but even as he swallows the last bit, his eyes still search Misty's. Why did he feel as though he were standing on the edge of a cliff, ready to fall?

"Thank you..." His voice was quiet... almost a whisper. A gentle breeze blew through the park and he reaches over to tuck a wisp of hair behind Misty's ear. His hand trails down her arm until finding her hand, where his fingers run slowly through her palm. Looking down and studying her hand, he spreads his fingers, laying his palm to hers.

Without lifting his eyes, he speaks softly. "Did you say you wanted some more music?"

Dani nods, shifting her hand under Dalton's to feel his warm comfort. "I want to forgive him... maybe I already do, I don't know."

She sighs deeply. "He's just... I guess he's just not the kind of person anymore that I want anything to do with, ya know?" She looks up again, tears hiding behind her eyes. "I know how important family is. Carson meant the world to me. But I guess I can't let blood override how I feel about his decisions and his lifestyle. It's not that I'm just mad at him or hold a grudge... I just don't want to have a relationship with somebody I can't trust."

Pulling back her hand, she picks up her fork again to return to her meal, although suddenly it didn't taste quite as good. "Just because I forgive doesn't mean I have to talk to him," she states quietly. "I can't risk my heart again."

"Yeah." Jeff nods. "The doctor is still saying tomorrow afternoon. As long as everything stays stable 'til then, that is. He said he wants to try some new heart medication on me that should allow me to do normal stuff I want, just no heavy working... like usual."

Hunter can see the depression in Jeff's eyes and he felt badly. He couldn't imagine not being able to do the things he wanted. Hard physical labor felt good. Kept him in shape. Kept him motivated. To have to find something else... that would be hard. "Ya know, one time I took apart a pocket watch my uncle had."

Jeff quirks an eyebrow, having no idea where Hunter was going with this random thought. "Okay..."

Hunter grins. "Well, see, I wasn't very old and I wanted to see how it worked. And... I was doing it at the kitchen table while he was outside - figured I'd have a looksee before he came back in. But when I got the back off..." He throws his fingers apart like a little explosion. "Kaplooey. Parts went everywhere. Needless to say, I didn't get it put back together before my uncle came inside. I didn't even get all the parts picked up."

His expression grows sheepish. "When he came back in, he didn't get mad, but he did have to hunt down all the parts on the floor with me. Then when he finally got everything put back together, it didn't work. Well... took him several hours but he finally realized there was one itty-bitty spring missing.  I remember thinking he had to be wrong - that nothing could fit into that tiny space. We scoured the kitchen floor until it was way past my bedtime."

Jeff cocks his head, still not sure what the point was, and beginning to wonder if Hunter had a cog loose himself. "Ever find it?"

"Nope." Hunter rolls his eyes. "And... the watch never worked again either. With all those other parts in there... the big springs and the shiny gears and all that... no matter how hard they worked together and tried to run... it just wasn't successful anymore, even when that missing part was so small. The watch needed it to run. It was that simple."

A sudden silence takes over the room as Jeff is hit with Hunter's point. Hard. Sinking back a little, he studies the younger man's face, finding it difficult to be offended at that calm, honest expression. No, all he could do was acknowledge that the point was valid and aimed directly at his attitude.

A small smile spreads on his lips and he shakes his head. Glancing over to Katie, he points at Hunter. "You better look out for this guy. He's a slick one."

"Naw." Hunter didn't want this conversation to turn back around to him, and quickly moves on. "So are we having lunch or what? I, for one, am starving."
