Poor Susanne

Still working and trying like mad to get it all done and stay focused, the sudden music from the main floor is startling. No one was left out there... just a couple people in their offices down the hall. What on earth... Then Susanne hears a familiar voice.

Looking up from her desk, her eyes go wide as she listens. Already, she could feel her cheeks growing hot and she sits, frozen in place. It was Chuck. Chuck was here. He was singing to her. After she'd just told him off and hung up on him, he'd come.

Logic told her that she should be upset - Chuck should have respected her wishes and known she did not want to see her. He should have backed off with such a blatant brushoff. But while that was logic, it was her heart that told her the exact opposite. He was still trying. Despite all her bungles and rejections, he was still trying. He was here for her. If he was just out for one thing, he would have given up by now. It was her he wanted... her... for who she was. For him to put up with her was enough to make that obvious.

Susanne's pulse speeds up just a little and she slowly rises from her desk. She should tell him to leave. She should just go out there and say she was sorry, but it wasn't going to work.

But as she reaches the door way and peeks out with one eye, something holds her there. There he was. Chuck. Her heart raced just looking at him. And his voice was so soft and pure. It made her melt all over again.

Leaning on the door frame, the only thing visible from the main floor was part of her face as she watched and listened, afraid to come out. She was afraid of what she felt and afraid of what she might say as all her prior plans were flushed down the tubes. All she can do is stand, her feet glued to the floor.
