Out of my league

Rosalyn grins a little, following Chad's gaze over the little pond in the park. "I know how to swim, and I read about plenty of fish in school, but that's where my knowledge ends. Your work does sound fun though. I can tell you love it." She shrugs. "Me... I just cook and clean. Not interested in being a counselor, don't want to be a vet, the men handle most of the horse training, and anything in town is too far away to drive back and forth."

She rolls her eyes. "Not much glamor in my end of the world, but it earns my keep I guess."

Jared nods slowly, his eyes still revealing the wheels turning in his mind. Though his hand remains with Grace's, he is silent for several strangely quiet moments until he finally responds. "We're so different." His voice is soft. "I never met a woman who I ever deemed was out of my league. But you..."

His eyes drift over to hers. "You're a whole different story. And I'm not sure I want to mar your record by letting you any closer to me."

"Maybe I do add to the music," Kip admits. "But I don't think I'm doing them any good anymore."

Straightening up, he leans back in the chair, as he locks his fingers with Karla's. His eyes remain towards the stage as his ears listen to the band. "I'm holding them back and I know it. I may be a fair musician, but they need more than that... and I'm not so sure anymore that I should even be here with them."

Fishy friends

Sitting with Kip Karla didn't mind being here with him and not out with the crowd. She didn't mind crowds but not really having a reason to be out there because Kip wasn't up there she would rather sit with him. Tapping her foot for a second she straightens at his comment. They did sound good tonight considering.

"Twila is doing good, but I still think you make them sound better. Just not the same without you up there."

Reaching over and slipping her hand into Kip's Karla give him a smile. She really did like it better when he was around. With out him everything seemed dull. He was important to her more than anyone would ever know.

Thinking for a second about Jared's question Grace new that sooner or later it might come up in conversation really. It was really part of getting to know each other. It was a subject she didn't talk about much though.

"I have before, once. Things just didn't work with us though and we both wanted something different out of life. He was ready to grow roots and I was just started my career. It was a while ago."

Looking up at Jared again she couldn't help but wonder if this would change anything with them. She hopped not but she wasn't sure what was running through his head. Anything really could happen at this point and she was still confident God had put her for a reason she only hoped that Jared would continue to let her come and be around her so she could figure that reason out.

"I don't even know what give up means. It's just not something I get use to doing."

Chad smile takes Rosalyn's hand again and continuing to walk. To him she really was important even if she didn't see it. She made his hear race and feel some many things he never had before. It was something that was important to him and he new that he couldn't let it go because he's never find it again.

"I think I am going to stay another three or four days than head back to work. It will more than likely be a month or so before I can visit you again though. It's going to be a long wait for sure I know that."

Getting to a small pond Chad stops again with Rosalyn looking out over the water. A calming look was in his eye even though it was not a big area one might be able to talk how calm he felt around water, and anything associated with it.

"I really enjoy water and anything to do with it. Call me strange or something. I guess thats why my job fits me so well though. I'd love to be able to show you what I do sometime. Maybe even introduce you to some of my fishy friends. I think you would get a kick out of it."

1/8/13

Have you ever...?

Leaning her face into Chad's hand and looking up at him, Rosalyn just sighs. He made her heart flutter. Her pulse quicken. Her mind go blank. And all at the same time. Why he was so determined to stick with her was beyond her understanding. She certainly didn't think she  was anything that special.

"You just don't know when to give up do you?" She rolls her eyes before backing up a step and taking his hand to pull him down the sidewalk again. "Come on - you're making a scene."

Walking though, did little to clear her mind. "You never did say how long you would be staying... when do you have to go back home?"

Jared's eyebrows rise slightly at Grace's statement. It didn't sound horrible to him, but he hadn't expected her to say something like that either.

Shifting his eyes back to meet hers, he sees again a look he recognized. A look that he had not planned on seeing there. A look that made him wonder now if he'd done the right thing by allowing things to happen between them. What if he messed up? What if he slipped and tried to take advantage of her like he'd done countless times with other women? Could he really treat her differently? Was he really capable of breaking his own patterns and starting fresh? It was one thing when he couldn't remember his past. But now that he did, it seemed a nearly impossible goal to reach - to be someone so opposite of what he used to be.

His thumb roams her palm again. And though his next question seemed to come out of the blue, in his mind, it was connected. "Have you ever had a man in your life?"

Easing down to sit next to Karla, Kip rests his elbows on his knees and stares at the floor. "Well, as long as there aren't any tar and feathers, I guess I'm okay then."

Listening to the music, he felt glad and sad at the same time. He could hear a bass guitar and knew without looking that Twila had taken his place. They'd also be taking a short break soon, and whether or not Karla thought the others were mad at him, Kip still was leery of facing them.

"They sound good without me," he notes softly.

How many

Letting her eyes continue to search Jared's face Grace just let the silence linger for a long moment. She wasn't sure what she thought about Jared saying he would be better off going back to his old life, nor did she really have any right to tell him anything different other than what she though.

"Well, I definitly don't think going back to your old life is a good option. You've come so far, and learned so much I think it would be kind of sad to just see you fall back into the old ways."

Grace could see how conflicted Jared really was with everything. She could only imagine how it must feel and how hard it was for him to try and find himself, or a new self. Sometimes just going back to the way you once were could just be an easier option.

"Ya know...in a way it horrible to say but I want to stop helping you get better."

Pausing for a second Grace looks down at there hands before looking back up at Jared. Her eyes held something different in them. Something that maybe portrayed a side of herself that she had found something she wasn't ready to let go of.

"...if I don't help you than I'll have to keep coming and I can keep seeing you. But if you get better...you might end up going away and I wont be able to see you anymore. I like seeing you though and spending time with you. Its just...nice."

Continuing to walk down the street with Rosalyn Chad wished things had been different. He wished her father would of taken to him better, and would of at least given him a chance. Maybe it was his own fault for handling things the way he did and maybe it wasn't, but either way he still felt bad.

"I don't know how many times I am going to have to tell you it is worth it, and you are worth it till you understand I am not going anywhere. Either way though I'll just keep telling you till you do."

Stopping again and pulling Rosalyn close to him Chad looks down into her eyes. Bringing a hand to her face he brushes the hair from her eyes as he gives a smile of his own.

"I'm not going anywhere...no matter what you are worth it and nothing or anyone is going to change my mind."

Getting Kip's kiss Karla can't help the smile that spread across her lips. She loved getting the love and affection from him and just being close to him. It mean lots to her, and knowing he felt the same back was so nice and refreshing. Kip had been there when she needed a friend and he had gone out of his way to make sure she was taken care of. It was something Karla would cherish forever and always try and repay.

"I'm just glad your ok. It would made for a pretty bad day if you had not been. I'm sorry too I didn't stop by your place before we came here like I should have as well."

Moving around Kip and sitting down where Kip had been to Karla crosses her legs for a second looking up at Kip. The band was not mad at him to much, they had been just worried and slightly irritated but it wasn't as bad as one might think.

"Nah I dont think they want to kill you. I think they are going to be happy your ok too. We were all pretty worried."

1/7/13

Kill me

Would she really be with him every step of the way? Jared looks over at Grace, his thumb running through her palm. And did he really want her with him every step of the way? With as many things as he had yet to face? These were the questions that raced through his mind. What was happening between them? Was it just a little playful flirting so they didn't get bored? Was it an actual idea of being more than friends, but that which would only last a little while? Or was a relationship something they both wanted?

Leaning his head back and staring at the far wall, his fingers continue to roam Grace's hand, tracing her palm, around her knuckles, thumb, then back to her palm again. "My mom asked me yesterday what I planned to do once I was back on my feet." The thought seemed rather random, and was spoken quietly. "I'm sure she wants to hear that I'll settle down in the area. But I don't know if I really fit here. I would probably have more going for me if I picked up where I left off before..."

His eyes eventually slip back over to Grace. He wanted to find out for sure what she really thought of them... together. If this was really something she wanted, or if she was just playing around. As he stared into her eyes though, he knew the answer. She had too much integrity to just play around with plans to forget the whole thing once he was walking again. And yet... despite his own desire to start a relationship... he knew that there was so much about him that could hurt her. Things he'd done. Things he still struggled with. Tendencies that he didn't know if he could control or not. And maybe he cared enough about her to not want to hurt her with any of those things. Maybe it really would be best when this was over, that he move away from here again.

He swallows hard and looks away once more without realizing his eyes and tone had given away that he was still struggling to pull himself out of his depression. "But I guess it's a while yet before I need to make that decision," he concludes lamely.

Rosalyn sighs deeply, her hands finding Chad's at her waist. "You haven't caused any trouble," she counters softly. "If anybody has, it's me. I've probably handled this whole thing the wrong way and just made it all worse than it needed to be. Maybe I've got more Henson stubbornness in me than I thought. It's gotten plenty of people in trouble through the years though."

Slipping from Chad, she resumes holding his hand to continue down the sidewalk. "I'm not convinced I'm worth all of this trouble for you," he muses. "I know you like me, but in all reality, you'd probably be better off just to forget this whole thing. It was fun while it lasted, but it's probably not worth a war."

Looking up just as Karla comes into view, Kip stands, though is taken by surprise by her hug. He'd figured she might be a bit worried, but not this much. Sighing, he slips his arms around her too and kisses the top of her head. When she pulls away though, he doesn't return her smile. He can't. Not when he felt this low.

"Yeah... yeah, I'm okay. I just, um..." He shrugs lamely. "Couldn't get it together today. Woke up late, phone died, ran out of gas... just... one thing after another." But it was still his fault for being irresponsible, and he knew it. He knew if he'd been on top of things, this would have been avoided.

Leaning down, he kisses her lips lightly. "I'm sorry I made you worry." Even more so, he was sorry for letting the entire band down. "Are the others ready to kill me?"

1/6/13

Not alone

Grace could only imagine how he must feel. She would be the same way for sure. I not be able to just get up and go. To talk a walk, or move around the house on you own when you wanted no matter the time. It was drive her about as crazy as it was Jared.

"Maybe not the old Jared, but you have got to show off the new Jared and what you have to offer. That's the one everyone is looking forward to seeing. I'm just happy I get first glance."

Giving another smile Grace reaches out and takes Jared's hand in her own. Just holding it for a long second. She new things were hard for Jared and remembering his past and what he had done was harder but she also new he's changed his way and was a different man now even if she didn't know him before hand now she did.

"You wont have to face it alone either. I'll be with you ever step of the way."

Stopping with Rosalyn to look in the window Chad steps behind her and puts his arms around her wast. As she looked in the window he was busy watching there refection. He liked how they fit together, and how his arms wrapped around her. It was almost two perfect and it just felt good.

"You haven't and never will disappoint me. I know you have your own stuff you need to take care of and I can't and wont get in the way of that."

Hearing about Rosalyn's Uncle Chad felt a little flutter inside. He's been told a little bit about him from Rosalyn and what had happened. To hear he was ok now made him feel good for her and her family.

"It's good to know your Uncle is alive. That is really great news and out of it I do hope you dad will not pressure you to much. I do feel bad for causing you trouble, but I cant let that keep me from seeing you. Walking through the fire is worth dancing in the rain."

Glancing out of the corner of  her eye and catching a glimpse of Kip Karla couldn't help the small wave of releaf as she stood up. She really had been worried about Kip and what might have happened to him. Standing and making her way quickly as he disappeared Karla turns the corner. Spotting him she goes to him quickly putting her arms over his shoulders and pulling him into a big hug burying her face into his shoulder.

"Kip...I was so worried. We called and called...are you ok?"

Pulling away a little bit Karla looks up into Kips eyes and gives him a smile. She really had been worried and was happy to know he was ok. If anything had happened she would of felt horrible and new everyone else would have too.

1/5/13

Unsure

"Well... as long as there's progress, right?" Jared looks down at his legs, withholding a sigh. He'd become a little quieter since lunch, as if something were weighing heavily on his mind.

"I guess I just wish I knew how long it would take to get back on my feet, if I'll ever get there at all. I thought I was bored when I was first released from the hospital. Now, every day, it seems to get ten times worse."

His eyes drift to the window. "But even though there's so much I want to do... I'm not sure the world wants me back."

Out on the sidewalk, Rosalyn slides her hand down Chad's arm until he finds his fingers to link with. "Mmm... I don't care where we walk. If we go a few blocks down to the right, there's an older part of town that has some old shops. I always like to look in the windows."

Soaking up the sunshine, she walks closely to Chad, falling silent for just a little while until her thoughts were gathered. "I stayed the night with Clint and Wendy," she admits. "I just... couldn't go home. Then this morning Clint kidnapped me. I wasn't sure I really wanted to come but... I couldn't disappoint him... or you again."

Stopping to look in a little antique shop, her eyes roam the quaint items through the glass. "My uncle that was missing in action - he turned up at home yesterday. I'm hoping the excitement at seeing him alive will soften up Dad a little bit, but... I don't know."

Kip's feet pound the pavement as he runs full-speed down the sidewalk. There was little point in checking his watch. He knew he was late. He also knew it was completely his fault. He hadn't filled up his car with gas yesterday like he should have. He shouldn't have told Karla just to meet him there. He should have charged his phone. He should have checked pockets in his laundry. As a result of the horrid combination, he'd woken late from a nap, he had run out of gas, he had no wallet, and his phone was dead.

Barely slowing to open the back door of the events center, his ears pick up the sound of music. Still in panic mode, he forces his pace down to a walk, making his way through several halls until he makes it to the backstage entrance and has to argue with volunteer security before they let him in.

Quietly slipping to a spot where he could see onstage, the music reverberates in his head. The band was well into their second song, and Twila was on bass.

Kip's heart sinks. He was hot, sweaty, breathing heavily and had no right to be here in this state. He had no idea if anybody had been worried about him or not, or if anybody had tried to call him. But if he had to guess, he'd say they probably had not. He wasn't exactly the early bird of the bunch, and he'd been late plenty of times. Although...he'd never missed a concert opening before. They'd set up and practiced the night before - an unusual luxury, but it's just how it had worked out this time. Today should have been a piece of cake. But he'd screwed it up. And they'd been forced to go on without him.

What he didn't know was how things had transpired back here...

"Where is he?" Kyle throws up his hands, irritated that they were still waiting on Kip. It should have been an easy gig. Hometown. Early setup. Small crowd. But here they were again, waiting on Kip. The youngest band member had been going through a lot, and they all understood and were quick to forgive. He'd seemed to have pulled out of his emotional fog and was healthier than he had been. But even so, he had not been keeping up with the band well at all. Whether it was trouble learning new songs, bouts with hyperactivity, forgetting about practices or being late to gigs, it just seemed he was always one step behind everyone else, and as such, it was starting to wear on the team.

Twila checks her phone one more time. "I left him two messages. I don't know what else to do. It's going straight to his voicemail though, which means his phone is either off or dead."

"I'd bet on it being dead." Theo rolls his eyes. "I've never seen a guy forget to charge his phone as much as him."

Erik sighs deeply and looks out into the auditorium to see more people filing in. "He was going to take a nap this afternoon..." His voice was drenched in disappointment. "I wouldn't be surprised if he overslept."

"What if something's wrong?" Russ fiddles with his drumsticks.

Kyle shakes his head. "We would have heard one way or another." He sighs and follows Erik's gaze to the growing audience. He didn't want to sound as though he didn't care - he did care very much. And he was worried. But things like this had happened too often for him to believe there was something wrong this time. More likely than not, Kip was just running late. "Twila?"

She tosses Karla a worried look before acknowledging Kyle. They'd ridden over here together and they'd even talked about stopping to check on Kip, but had decided to just meet everyone here. "Yeah..." She turns back to Kyle. "I already made sure his bass was tuned. I'll fill in the cracks as long as you take care of the spots where I was supposed to solo."

Backing away from the concert scene, Kip finds a chair backstage and slowly sinks down into it. Leaning his elbows on his knees, he hides his face in his hands. He imagined Karla sitting off to the side of the stage, watching and waiting. He knew the other band members were probably too lost in the music to be thinking about him right now. Were they more worried or irritated? He could guess it was the latter. Either way, he'd let them all down. Whether he was getting a handle on the rest of his life or not, it seemed the struggle to keep up with the band was never ending. And... once again, the thought crosses his mind that he should just walk away altogether.

Its working

Grace trys to keep the small grin at bay at Jared's comment. She didn't enjoy hurting anyone but knowing there was pain there was a good thing and she did like knowing that. It meant there was feeling coming pack and it meant she was getting deep down where she needed to and that could lead to many good things to come.

"Evil hands can be a good thing though. It means that what I am doing is starting to work a little more each day."

Continuing to work on his legs Grace eases up a little bit not pressing so hard on them. She didn't want to ware him out to much. Working on each one a little longer Grace finally starts to ice them. Sitting down on the chair next to him she was please with his progress and how well he was coming alone. Even if to him it did sleep like he was getting far he really was and Grace could see.

"Sometimes I do enjoy it by the way because it lets me how that what I am doing is working and thats a good thing."

"Of course you can leave that where while we walk. I don't mind one single bit and walking if good too as long as its with you."

Moving back into the room Chad had to get his own shoes and socks on so he'd have to move anyways to let Rosalyn in. Going to the bed and sitting down Chad throws some socks and shoes on before standing again.

Going closer to Rosalyn and looking down into her eyes. He really was happy she was here and he was going to have to thank Clint for bringing her. Spending time with her was his breaths of fresh air and he loved them so much. It was the moments he spend with her he was finding himself looking forward to the most.

"Mmm...I'm so happy your here. Where would you like to walk to my lady?"

Holding his arm out to Rosalyn so she could take hold of it Chad wait's a second before moving forward with her and heading out of the hotel and into the fresh air. Taking in a deep break he new this time he would enjoy the walk more than he had the first time.  Having Rosalyn here put a while new twist on thing.

1/4/13

Evil hands

Cindy chuckles and shakes her head. "You don't stink too badly, but if you want to give a good impression, a shower might be a good idea."

Watching him leave the room, she takes another bite of eggs and leans her head back against the wall with a contented sigh. She'd never be able to describe how good it felt to have Wes home.

"Hey, Mick?"

Mick pauses his task of grooming Remington to glance at Jim. Breakfast was over, and activities had picked up for the day. "Yeah?"

"I saw Clint and Rosalyn leave earlier. Do you know where they went?"

Mick resumes his brushstrokes. "I'm pretty sure they're running an errand in town. Clint plans to be back by this afternoon though - at least that's what he said when I asked if he'd be around to see Wes later."

"Mm."

When Mick looks up again, his brother was already gone. Sighing, he gives his horse a hearty pat on the neck. He didn't know what Jim was thinking, but he could only guess that puzzles pieces were being put together, and he'd figure out that Rosalyn was still seeing Chad.

Being greeted at the door, Rosalyn can feel her cheeks flush as she keeps her smile from spreading too widely. If nothing else, Chad was one of the most attractive men she'd ever met. "Um... how about we walk? I think better when my feet are moving. Besides, if it ever got around that I was visiting you at a hotel, I'd be in even more hot water."

Her eyes look up into Chad's, immediately getting lost in that shining gaze. "Although if I can keep this helmet here instead of lugging it around, that would be great." She'd keep the leather jacket on though. It was a warm day, but the breeze was just enough for her to want her arms covered. "Clint's off doing his thing and will be back to pick me up later."

Back on his bed with Grace working on his legs, Jared nods. "Yeah, just as bit. I mean, I've tried to be motivated enough to keep moving around even when you're not here. Of course... now I'm having shoulder surgery as a result, but hey, I tried, right?"

He rolls his eyes. "Bite off smaller chunks, I know. I guess I'm-" He comes to an abrupt halt as he winces, his hand putting the bedspread in a vice grip. "Holy crap," he breathes. "For such an angel, you have evil hands today."

Letting the pain pass, he smirks at her. "Sometimes I think you enjoy this."

Sit and Talk

Just smiling at Jared Grace wouldn't mind missing him again he was a good kisser and she had enjoyed it very much so. Seeing a sudden change in his eyes though Grace doesn't go in for another kiss but backs away a little bit as Jared does. She wondered what the look was about and what had changed so quickly but something told her that maybe it was part of Jared's past memories and not wanting to make the same mistakes.

"I guess that is true and it is kind of important for you to get on your feet so we can take that nice walk huh?"

Finishing up lunch and cleaning up a bit Grace runs a few things out to the kitchen to throw away. Stopping to talk with Lydia for a second and than heading back into Jared's room it wasn't long before she was back in the room and started on Jared's legs.

"So how have you been feeling lately? Anymore movement in your legs on your own?"

Rolling over on the bed and giving a yawn Chad blinks a little looking at the door to his room. Was that Rosalyn? Was he dreaming? Just sitting there he listens and hearing her knock again and than say it was her his heart started to race. She'd really come after all?

Quickly to the door Chad didn't even worry about his hair that was slightly unruliness, or his feel that were bare. Opening the door and seeing Rosalyn standing there he couldn't help but smile as he leaned against the door frame.

"Hey there stranger, happy you changed your mind and came to see me. Want to come in or go out somewhere to sit and talk?"

Hearing Cindy talk about Kaylee and that she new his picture it gave Wes a little comfort that even if his baby didn't know him as dad she at least new and and he could work with that as least he wouldn't be a complete strange.

"Well, at least I wont be a totally strange to her. Just means in time she will learn I am her daddy."

Looking up at Cindy and smile Wes sits up and gives her a kiss on the for head. He's worried so much on his way here about how things were, and if they would be awkard but now that he was here his fears had seemed so silly. Being home again was everything he'd remembered and his wife was still as wonderful and amazing as ever.

Knowing he couldn't stay in bed all day though Wes finally sits all the way up in the bed looking at Cindy one last time before getting up and stretching. Turning back to Cindy his eyes give the same twinkle they always did when he looked on her.

"I guess I should become human and take a show so when people deiced to give me a hug I don't stink them out. Be back in a flash."

1/3/13

Cut this out

Cindy grins at Wes, resisting the urge to be too playful, since she was trying to eat the breakfast he'd made for her. There had been moments when she'd feared how she would adjust if Wes ever did come home. How things would be different again. How she'd react. And there were still some uncertainties in the back of her mind. Things were different now. She was different. He was different. And it would take a time of adjustment, no matter how much they loved each other. But looking down into his bright eyes now, Cindy knew that despite any worries, they'd be okay. If she had any trouble adjusting, she knew he'd be patient with her and they would make it together just like they had before.

She hadn't thought much about Kaylee's reaction though, so Wes' question makes her pause in thought. "I... really don't know." She wished she could say yes, and reassure him that his daughter would remember him. But she was so little and had grown up so much since he'd left. She had attached herself to several other men around the ranch, particularly Sparky and Eric.

"She knows your picture and knows the face is named 'Daddy.' I would imagine she'd at least recognize you from that." Cindy reaches over and runs her hand down the side of Wes' face. "It might take her some getting used to again, but I know she'll adore you just like she did before you left."

Rosalyn could tell just by Chad's few words that he was disappointed. And it made her feel all the more worse. But what else could she do? If he came today, it would just be a nightmare all over again, and she was still exhausted from yesterday.

Lost in her own thoughts, she rises from the swing and aims for the dining hall door. Maybe if she would just concentrate on work, she'd feel less depressed.

"Think fast."

On her way to the dining hall, Rosalyn spins around just in time to catch - albeit clumsily - a motorcycle helmet. Looking at her brother who was standing at the bottom of the porch steps, she gives him a bewildered stare. "What on earth are you doing?"

"Taking you to town with me." Clint tosses her a leather jacket to go along with the helmet. "It's a little cool this morning - you'll want this."

"But..." Rosalyn's brow furrows. "I don't get it."

"What don't you get?" He was already dressed to ride and was now pulling out his keys. "You and me. Town."

"But I have work to do!"

"It's been taken care of." Clint turns, heading for the garage. "So come on."

Rosalyn growls her frustration. "Well hang on." It only took her seconds to slip inside the dining hall and grab a couple things from her purse before she follows after him. "What do you have to go to town for?"

"I got some errands to run."

"And so why are you dragging me along?"

Clint stops just as he gets the garage, turning to give Rosalyn a look that questioned her intelligence. "Seriously?"

Taken aback, Rosalyn stares down at the helmet and jacket as the realization sinks in. "You don't have to do this."

"Yeah, well... that's not the point, is it?" Clint opens the garage and goes to his bike, pushing it out into the morning light. Mounting up, he glances at his sister. "Coming?"

Rosalyn bites her lip, hesitating, but trying to hide a smile. "Idiot."

Clint laughs as she dons the jacket and helmet. "I've been called worse." He thumbs over his shoulder. "Climb on, Sis. The sunshine's waitin' on us."

It was only minutes later that Rosalyn had her arms around Clint's waist, holding on tightly as they sped down the road. It had been a long time since she'd been with him on his bike, but she'd always secretly enjoyed it. And, it wasn't often that it was just the two of them. Some might not even realize they were siblings, let alone twins. But just because their bond was quiet didn't mean it wasn't strong...

...Jacket unzipped, helmet under arm, Rosalyn pauses at the hotel room door. She'd seen Chad's jeep in the parking lot, so she knew he was here this morning and had told Clint to go ahead and see after his errands.

Finally lifting her hand, she knocks. "Chad?" she calls softly. "It's Rosalyn..."

Jared's grin evolves into a full smile. "Well we wouldn't want that happening, now would we?" His voice was still quiet, his hand returning to Grace's cheek to brush it softly. "Maybe we'll just have to build up intensity more... gradually."

As his eyes search her own, a small, almost far-away light seems to diminish from his gaze. More like suddenly realizing there was a cold draft, it might not have been enough for anybody else to even notice.

His hand slowly departs from her face, and he turns to sit straighter again. And without much warning, the warm moment seemed to have passed.

Jared clears his throat before taking another bite of food. A sidelong glance is tossed at Grace as a boyish grin emerges. "We better cut this out or you'll never get any work done on my legs."

Do you think She...

Feeling Jared's hand on her neck and than the back of her head Grace can't help but give a small shiver. She'd never felt completely comfortable with anyone like this before but something about Jared, no matter what she did or didn't know about him she felt safe, like everything would be ok and he wouldn't hurt her. Though the sound of her own beating heart made her fear Jared might hear it because in her own ears she could hear the pound.

As Chad's lips come close to her own and feeling his passion Grace can't help but lets her own arms go tighter around him keeping Jared closer to him as well. Letting her own passion flow through the moment Grace couldn't help murmur that escaped her lips as Jared's lips moved from hers and than back again. Soaking in the moment Grace was enjoying it and was a little disappointed as Jared pulled away.

Looking into his eyes once again she can't help the little bit of color that spreads across her cheeks. She never been kissed like that before and though she liked it she couldn't help the color. It made her feel warm and tingly and she liked it.

"Mmmm...ok your right that was a little better. Any more intense and I think my heart might just beat right out of my chest."

Smiling down at Cindy Wes can't help the biggest smile that spread across his face. Everything about this moment was perfect, even if there was no breakfast, as long as his wife was there, his family was there he would be happy.  They meant everything to him how could he not be happy.

"Mmm...well I am happy I didn't lose my touch on cooking. At least I can still help you with that now."

Once Cindy had her plate of food Wes moved around to the other side of the bed spreading out but staying close to Cindy still giving her room to eat. He just wanted to be close to her because to him this all felt like a dream too even if he new it wasn't.

Leaning on his elbows and looking up at Cindy Wes gives her arm a soft kiss before letting his eyes meet hers and just search them for a very long moment. He loved there depths, and how they sparkled. They were so pretty Wes had never seen anything prettier. It was Cindy and the thought of her and Kaylee that helped him get through the hard times, and would continue to.

"It will be nice to see everyone else again too. Might be a little over whelming but not to horrible as long as I have my two best girls by my side. Think Kaylee will know who I am?"

Stepping out of the hotel Chad feels his cell phone go off. He was up early today and looking forward to seeing Rosalyn. He would take her into town and it didn't bother him all the driving. He was use to it with his job so it was just like another day but for an even better reason.

Reading the text Chad can't help the slight feeling of disappointment. Part of him wanted to go get her anyways, and part of him said no. Maybe she did need her space. If she ditched out tomorrow he could go get her right? Letting out a long sigh he hits reply.

Alright, I'll see you tomorrow than,
No ditching me than though or I
am gonna come get you anyways.
Try and have a good day Rosalyn
I am only a phone call away.

Hitting send Chad hoped in the text he didn't sound to disappointed. He didn't want to make Rosalyn feel bad. Now he could look around town and check out a few places right? Alone...but he could try and still make it fun?

1/2/13

Maybe tomorrow

There was much more Rosalyn's heart wanted to say, but she left her phone closed for the night. Sleep didn't come easily, especially in a strange bed. She was glad for the hospitality of Clint and Wendy though, and helping take care of Chase and Kaylee too her mind off her own problems for a little while at least. Come morning though, her heart felt much more gray than the bright, cloudless sky.

Sitting on the porch swing of the main building, Rosalyn fiddles with her phone. It wasn't quite time for breakfast yet, but Jade had a handle on things in the kitchen, so she'd opted to spend a few quiet moments alone before more people started filing in. She was trying to be cheerful... to put on a smile... especially since they'd all get to see Wes later today. But... her heart just wasn't in it.

After letting out a long sigh, she finally flips open her phone.

Good morning, Chad. I hope you
haven't left yet. Please... don't
come to the ranch today. I can't
handle it. Not again. Not so soon.
Please understand. Maybe
tomorrow if you haven't gone
home yet.

Stirring just a little, Cindy thinks maybe she feels the bed move, and maybe hears Wes leaving the room. But she was still too asleep to know for sure. She didn't know how late she and Wes had stayed up talking, but she did know that she hadn't slept as well since before he'd left. Something told her that it was later than usual for her to wake up, but she was so comfortable and warm that she just didn't want to move.

It wasn't long though when she feels the bed move again and she receives a light kiss and hears Wes' sweet voice. Her eyes flutter open and a thin smile spreads on her lips. "Mmm..." She stretches sleepily. "I wouldn't mind either... as long as you came back to keep me warm." She finds his hand, bringing it close to kiss. "But... I'd hate for such cute efforts to go to waste." Her eyes glance at the hot breakfast. "It's so good to have you home... even if you didn't fix me breakfast."

Breaking into a smile, she finally pulls herself up to sit. Setting the plate in her lap, she takes a bite and nods. "You can still cook eggs," she teases. "I'll give you that." Her foot nudges his leg. "Everybody is going to be so happy to see you, Wes... It all still feels like a dream."

Drawn into Grace's kiss, Jared returns it with the same amount of passion, feeling as he had the other day when they'd kissed for the first time. He's almost disappointed as she pulls away, and he tastes of his lips. His eyes lock with Grace's, a sly grin toying at the corners of his mouth. "A little," he admits.

His hand slinks around the back of her shoulder, his thumb running up and down her neck. "I still think we could do better," he whispers, leaning in closer again. Caressing the back of her head, he returns to her lips, giving her a string of light kisses that move to her cheek, to below her jawline, then back up again where he deepens the kiss for several long moments.

Withdrawing just far enough to see her eyes once more, his grin returns. "Mm...that's more like it."

Little better

Getting Rosalyn's reply Chad was happy she had chosen too. Part of him had wondered if she would or not with how things had been left when he'd left. With her replying though it did make things easier because now he didn't have to try and convince her or if he did at least she wasn't completely close minded.

You are not making anything harder on me.
This is far from hard. Tomorrow it is,
I will text you on my way out there.

Chad stops for a second giving a smile before continuing the text.

   Sleep well my princess.

Wes understood what Cindy was saying and he didn't mind at all. He new the others would understand his want to just spend a little time with her before everyone else. It had been to long he'd been away and though dead he just wanted the quiet to hold her, to tell her everything he wanted too. And that night he did just that talking for hours, enjoying her company.

...Morning came all to quick with Cindy still wrapped in his arms. Opening his eyes and hearing the sound yet the quiet of the area a smile spread across Wes lips. He was home, with his wife, warmth and safety. Last night the nightmares didn't come, and he was glad at least for one night he could be at peace with his own mind, and what he was thankful for.

Slipping out of bed softly as to not wake Cindy up Wes slowly walks into the kitchen not bothering to throw a shirt on. His scars bothered him but something about being here, about being home seemed to for not let them slip from his mind. Going to the coffee pot and turning it on Wes gets to work on making some breakfast and soon the smell of bacon,

Finished and having everything platted up Wes takes the food on a small try and brings it into the bedroom setting it down on the night stand by Cindy's side of the bed. Sitting down on the edge and leaning over her Wes leans down and places a kiss on her lips before nuzzling her head with his own.

"Babe, I made breakfast if your intrusted. If not I don't mind just sitting here and watching you sleep."

Feeling Jared's hand on her face Grace could feel her heart kick it up a few notches. His hands were warm, and soft, Grace liked how they felt on her skin. Leaning her head into his hand a little bit her eyes fall shut for a second before she opens them again and looks into Jared's.

As he draws closer and brushes his lips against hers Grace thought maybe her heart would pound out of her check. Keeping her eyes locked with his though and seeing the smirk on his lips she new this was now a show down on who could out last who.

"No...that was not to shabby...but this...."

Leaning in again and pressing her lips to Jared's Grace's free hand comes to the side of his face and than to the back of his head. Just letting her lips press against his for a long moment before finally pulling away out of breath just a little bit. Giving a smile her eyes stay locked with his.

  "...is a little better."

12/31/12

Goodnight

Feeling her phone vibrating in her pocket, Rosalyn slowly opens her eyes. She was still lying on the bed with Chad's shirt still clutched in her hand. Swallowing hard and smacking her dry lips, she brings her surroundings into focus, finding it difficult to rouse her foggy brain.

Finally rolling over, she digs out her phone and flips it open. Seeing a message from Chad, her heart immediately flutters, though she tries to make it stop. After reading what he had to say, her thumbs hover over the small buttons. Half of her wanted to just grab a truck now and go into town. And half of her wanted to tell him to quit trying - it was over.

Glad to know u found a place.
Thank u for the bracelet- i love it.

She pauses as her mind races.

Im sorry tho... its just not going
to work between us. Its too much
stress and it will tear us apart
eventually. I dont want to see u
hurt. Im so sorry. Thank u for
everything. Goodbye.

Rosalyn stops before hitting "send." Tears welled up in her eyes as she reread her own message. She could imagine Chad's face and the disappointment in his gaze. She could imagine the hurt - that she would cause. And she pressed "delete" instead, before retyping.

Glad to know you found a place.
Thank u for the bracelet- i love it.
I dont know when i can get away. No
promises, but i will try tomorrow.
U've put up with so much already. I
dont want to make it harder on u.
Goodnight, Chad.

"I think... I like the first option." It wasn't that Cindy didn't want the others to see Wes, or that she didn't want her daughter around either. But she did want more time for just herself and her husband, if only for a few more hours until the reality of life had to return. And she knew no one would blame her.

"But the others do need to know." She lifts her head, a little grin coming to her lips. "At least that way they won't have the shock of their life like I did."

Letting her lips brush Wes', her voice softens. "But it was a good shock."

Easing away from him, she doesn't want to get up, but she knows she had to. Prying herself from the couch, she runs as hand through her unruly hair and wanders to the kitchen phone. And it was Mick's cell phone she chooses to dial...

...The news spread like wildfire, as did the shock and joy. It was hard to believe that Wes was alive, let alone right here at home. Everyone wanted to see him, but all understood him spending time alone with Cindy until the next day. Of course, that also gave everyone enough time to plan a little party for supper tomorrow night.

Jared breaks his gaze from Grace to keep eating, though his eyes did return to hers, as if drawn by magnets. "I dunno..." He gives her a little shrug. "I s'pose we could find out if we really wanted to."

Taking another sip of water, he lets a couple moments bring a silent pause, just prolonging the suspense. Finally though, he shifts a little on his side, keeping one hand on the floor for leverage. Lifting his other hand, he runs his fingers along the side of Grace's face. "At least... I don't think it would be hard." He leans a little closer. "I don't... anticipate this... being... too horrible."

His lips brush hers just lightly. "Mm... yeah... not so bad..." Remaining an inch or so away, his eyes twinkle, challenging her to kiss him back."

Family Time

Not rushing back into town Chad drives slow just enjoying the view and the scenes. Being by water, the ocean, or a late was like home to him and where he would feel most comfortable but something about this place to it was just peaceful and he wanted to enjoy it while he could.

Finally getting into town though and finding a place to bunk down Chad pulls out his phone. Flopping down on the bed he holds it for a second before finally opening a message to Rosalyn. He said he'd text her and he planned on it. This was not the last she had seen of him.

Rosalyn, Staying at the Western Inn, in town. I know tonight it might be kind of hard but tomorrow afternoon maybe we can meet for lunch or dinner. I hope you got my gifts ok.

Keeping his one arm tightly around Cindy Wes didn't mind just laying here, and falling asleep, in the comfort and safty of his own home just that short nap felt like he had been sleeping for days. Knowing Cindy was this close to him and just feeling her warm skin against his own. He was anxious to see Kaylee too but there was part of him that was a little scared too.

"Mmmm...than how about we see if Wendy will watch Kaylee the night I am sure she wont mind and than that will give use a chance to catch up a little more."

Leaning his head down against Cindy's Wes did know that everyone in the ranch needed to find out he was still alive but he couldn't help but what the quiet with his family first. So they could get use to him before everyone else deiced to have there time with him too.

"Or I could wait here while you go get Kaylee and than we could just have a family night. So long as I am with you guys I am happy."

Seeing the smile spread across Scott's face it pleased Dalton. Even if it was for a small moment it was still there, and she was happy. A little was better than nothing and at this point Dalton would rather see Scott's face light up a small bit than not at all.

"Mmm...I think Dani said she wanted a spring wedding, or maybe next year? I'm really not a hundred percent sure. I figured when she is sure on the date she will let me know since I need to be there and all."

Giving a smile to Scott Dalton was happy to help him get his mind of things and have the topic be a little brighter. And the though that he got to share this moment with his best friend was even better. Scott was the closest thing Dalton ever new to a best friend and he'd though he had almost lost him once he wasn't going to let it happen again.

"I guess at this point its just go with the flow till Dani has a few things figured out. Than I can try and work around that. I'll be happy your my wing man though. I'm gonna need a guy to just kick back and relax with once and a while."

Laughing at Jared Grace gives his foot one last push before leaving it be. Taking a bit of her own food she was happy they had done this today. The food tasted good, and the company was good what else could she ask for? Throwing a little grin to Jared her eyes give a little sparkle.

"That wouldn't be such a horrible thing if you did...would it be?"

12/30/12

Good Riddance

Jim had just knelt to look at a horse's leg when his eyes catch sight of Chad entering the barn. Immediately bristling, he tries to stay calm, but only for the horse's sake. Its leg was bleeding enough the way it was.

Opting to just ignore the other man, he starts to clean the wound, his ears listening to Chad whether he liked it or not. He was leaving, huh? Good. Jim didn't care about the reason as long as he was gone. Words about Rosalyn didn't surprise him - she was his daughter after all, and he already knew what a fine young woman she was.

Gently wiping iodine over the deep cut in the horse's leg, his quiet demeanor was a contrast to what was going on inside of him. Chad needed to get out of here.

Purity was up for debate, and love? Seriously? It wasn't love and Jim knew it. All Chad wanted was to satisfy something else entirely. As far as taking anything out on Rosalyn, Jim figured she could use a good talking to with some reminders about family rules, and Chad would not interfere with that. How their family ran was none of Chad's concern and Jim would have none of anyone telling him how to handle things.

Prepping a bandage, Jim's eyes remain on his task, his mouth shut. Chad could be as sorry as he wanted to, but Jim had no intention of getting to know him. There was no point. This little romance would not last.

Jim pauses his work to finally turn his gaze and see Chad walk away. Good riddance. It had been a pitiful battle, but at least the guy was finally leaving.

It would be quite a while before Rosalyn would wander away from the main building. Busying herself with supper preparations, cleaning and laundry, she kept her mind occupied and off of subjects that she didn't want to think about. Eventually though, she knew she needed to go clean and put fresh linens in the bunkhouse Chad had used. He'd been her guest after all, so she should be the one to tidy up. Not that it would be hard - for as little time spent with him, she could tell that, for a guy, he was pretty clean and organized.

Making her way quickly to the bunk, she avoids contact with anybody else. She knew he father was the only one who had a real problem with Chad, but she was quite embarrassed with how everything had turned out, and she'd just as soon not talk about it.

Upon entering, her eyes immediately see Chad had left something on the bed. Assuming it had been by mistake, she's ready to simply take it and keep it until she sees him again, but seeing the note and bracelet along with the shirt, she stops. Reading the note, new tears spring into her eyes. Didn't he know this wasn't going to work? Couldn't he tell that it would be too hard? It wasn't fair to him. He shouldn't have to put up with this. For his sake, he should have just left for good and forgotten the whole thing - including her. She had her phone in her pocket in case he did text her to say where he was staying, but part of her wondered if he actually would.

Easing down to sit on the bed, Rosalyn fingers the bracelet. It was simple but pretty, and even prettier to her, knowing who it had come from. Slipping it on her wrist, she just looks at it for a few minutes. Then slowly, she lies down on the bed, curling onto her side and pulling Chad's shirt close. Her head sinks into the pillow and she breathes deeply his scent that still lingered.

Opening her eyes, Cindy gives a start. How long she'd been asleep on the couch, she wasn't sure. But after so many tears, talking, more tears, more talking and even more tears, she had been utterly exhausted. The dim light coming through the window suggested that evening was upon them, and she knew that reality must be faced. She couldn't stay here forever.

Sighing deeply, she nuzzles her head into Wes' chest. Lying half on top of him, she didn't want to leave his warmth and comfort. It all still felt like a dream, and she was still scared of waking up and finding him gone again.

Finding his hand, she curls her fingers around his. "We need to go to the ranch," she mumbles softly. "I'm just not so sure about sharing you yet."

"Yeah...okay." Scott wasn't all that sure about going out for lunch today, but he would. Lunchtime would be here shortly anyway since he'd gotten in to work so late.

Hearing Dalton had finally popped the question, then being asked to be his best man, Scott looks over to him quickly. A smile spreads on his lips and he nods. "I'd be most honored." Work - and his problems - are forgotten, at least for a few minutes. "Do you guys have a date set yet?"

Glancing down and seeing Grace's foot gently rubbing against his own, Jared moves his eyes back to hers, a faint grin just barely emerging. After taking a sip of water, he concentrates for a moment before wriggling his toes against her foot.

"Careful," he teases, "I might be tempted to give you another kiss."

Sticking a forkful of salad in his mouth, he tosses her a flirtatious look before his smile finally pushes through.

One more day

Making his way across the yard Chad takes in a deep breath before letting it out slowly. He could feel his hurt and anger rise. It was not something he often let surfs but seeing someone he cared about so very much have to choose between two things she cared deeply about pained his heart more than anything he had ever felt before.

Stopping for a second and glancing around movement at the barn catch his eye. Looking and seeing Jim slip inside Chad shakes his head. Starting forward again his bunk to pack was the way he wanted to go but his feet carried him in a different direction. Getting to the barn Chad figured he was leaving anyways so why not, though part of him new maybe it was really better if he didn't.

Finding Jim with one of the horses Chad stops in the door way. Standing tall and confidante he did  his best to not seem to arragent or disrespectful. He didn't mean either of those to Jim and he surly didn't want to giving him a reason to dislike him. But he felt like he needed to say his peace before he left.

"Jim..I just wanted to let you know I am leaving the ranch and heading into town for now. Not because you asked me too but because its the best for Rosalyn so she doesn't have to deal with anymore stress of me being here this time around."

Stopping for a second Chad holds up his hand as to not let Jim talk. He didn't want a reply, or an argument, or anything else for that matter. This was just something he felt he needed to say for one reason or another.

"Rosalyn is a very fine young woman, with a good head on her shoulders, and a pure heart. For everything she had told me she had been though I can see how strong she is. I never would of done anything to hurt her, or sin against God. My actions were pure, my intentions were pure, and my lover for your daughter was pure."

Chad searches Jim's face for a long moment. Much emotions was lacking from it witch made it hard to try and read him but Chad tried anyways. His own eye more sad than angry. This had to be one of the hardest things he'd ever had to do before.

"So, now as I leave I guess I am just asking you to please don't take you anger for me out on Rosalyn. If you have to be mad at anyone than I ask you be mad at me, drive all your anger at me, and not at Rosalyn. She deserves better than that, and I am willing to taking that punishment for her because I care that much. If anything Jim...you should be very proud of her and the fine woman she had grown into be. and forever the reason is, I am sorry you never got to know me."

Not knowing what else to say Chad turns and heads out of the barn before anything can be said or at least he was far enough away that if something was said he might not hear it or be to far to stop and turn around going back to argue. Heading across the yard again he dosn't stopp till he gets to his bunk. I wouldn't take long before he had everything packed. Laying on the bed was one of his shirts a few buttons lose on it, a simple bracelet he'd found he likes for Rosalyn and a note witch read:

"Beauty can not be measured by gifts or items bought, it is something we must see in our heart. Every time I look at you I see the good that is still left in this world and it brings me hope that all the good, and beauty is not good. This bracelet next to you looks nothing more than a trinket, and the buttons on this shirt will continue to fall if it means just one more day to spend with you."

The items would remain there in hopes that Rosalyn was the one on cleaning duty and she would find them after he was gone.

12/28/12

Harder

Forced to look into Chad's eyes, Rosalyn fights to maintain the walls that could crumble so easily right now if she'd let them. But she wouldn't. This had gone far enough. This was reality. And she couldn't fall into his arms all the time.

Chad's words sink down into places in her heart that only he had ever touched. No matter what happened, at least for a few moments, she had felt worth something... worth someone fighting for her... worth a man's attention. Whether he wanted to acknowledge it or not, she new that this could very well be the end. But at least she'd had those few moments.

She doesn't resist his kiss, though she doesn't return it either... not this time. Swallowing hard, she watches him only out of the corner of her eye as he leaves. "Goodbye, Chad," were the only quiet words that found their way to the surface.

Turning back to the counter, she takes a washcloth and works on the same spot she'd given up on only minutes prior. But somehow it was harder to see any stains when her vision was so blurred.

12/27/12

Will be...

Hearing what Rosalyn said Chad stood up a little taller. Was she really saying what he thought? He couldn't help the pain in his heart and the sick feeling in his stomach. Was she really saying this and did she really mean it? He's thought for sure that she would understand and at least try to fight for what they had.

"You can say that all you want Rosalyn but your eyes tell me something different. I will head into town and I do still want to see you. As for a next time if you really dont want me coming around again than I'll respect that for now but I wont give up on us."

Stepping closer to her Chad places on hand on her shoulder and bring the other hand to the side of her face tilting it up to look at him. Looking deep into her eyes Chad searches for the truth, for how she really felt, and how to really handle this whole thing. What he found was a woman who yearned for what they had, someone who wanted to run away and get lost, to be her own person but was held back. It was something that struck his heart deeply more than anything else ever had. She was a caged bird who just wanted to be free but was to loyal to spread her wings.

"I will be back Rosalyn, not for anyone else but you. You are special to me, and mean the world. I started this relationship for a reason and I am not going to give up on so quickly."

Leaning down Chad place a kiss on her lips before backing away. He needed to go pack his stuff up and head into town like he'd told Mick he would. At least he didn't want to cause anymore trouble today for Rosalyn. That would come another day if need be but for now he'd let everything calm down. He would be back though, and he would see Rosalyn again.

"I'll send you a text and let you know where I am staying. See you later Rosalyn."

A next time

Wiping off the counter with a towel, Rosalyn hears someone behind her, but doesn't turn. Feeling Chad's arms wrap around her, she doesn't jump - his touch was so warm and comforting that it simply didn't startle her. Leaning back into him, she accepts his kiss and just remains quiet until he moves away.

Turning her attention back to the counter, she rubs a couple dirty spots as Chad talks. She pauses once when he mentions leaving, but still doesn't look up at him, even when he's finished. There are several moments of silence before she eventually replies while still cleaning the counter.

"Next time won't be different," she states with quiet resentment. "Dad won't change."

Finally giving up on a stain, she ceases her busywork. Leaning her hands on the counter, her eyes avoid Chad's completely. There were many thoughts that had been crammed into her mind during the short time alone in the kitchen, and some which she wasn't sure she should voice.

"Maybe there shouldn't be a next time." Her voice had grown even quieter. "I really like you and I want to be with you but... not at the expense of everyone else here. It's not your fault and I'm sorry, but... maybe it's for the best."

Ask

Continuing to look at Scott Dalton gives a little nod. He new that Scott sometimes had a hard time remembering things and he had no problem trying to help his friend out. Scott was one of his best friends after all and he wanted to make sure he was going to be ok.

"I think I can do that. How about we go out to eat together. That way I remember to remind you to eat?"

Turning to his computer screen for a second Dalton is quiet waiting for Scott answer before turning to his friend again. He new he was down right now and he wanted to see him smile or at least feel good. He new as well that Scott didn't know he's asked Dani to marry him yet. So maybe that would help lighten his spirits.

"So, I have been meaning to ask you before I got myself shot. I asked finally her, and she said yes. Now I want to ask you Scott if you will be my best man."

Grace can't help but laugh a little bit at Jared and him being tong tied. It was funny to see him like that a little bit. Shaking her head and taking a bit of macaroni salad in her mouth Grace chews it before leaning back a little bit.

"Moonlight walks sound nice. I don't think I have ever taken one so enjoying it with you would be nice I think."

Moving her foot and placing it next to Jared's Grace rubs it slowly against his moving it slowly. She new Jared was her patient but something else had been happening here over the last few weeks too. She felt more and more close to him as the time went on. Why she wasn't sure but she did and it was a growing feeling that made her want to spend more and more time with him.

"A wheelchair is not so bad but I think we can still strive twords walking again more."

Chad gives a small smile to Mick before standing tall again. He new Mick was just trying to do what was best for everyone and Chad couldn't hold that against him. Giving him a nod and a thanks Chad new now he needed to talk with Rosalyn and he only hoped it would go over well with her too.

Heading into the dinning hall and to the kitchen where he figured Rosalyn would be. Seeing her and smiling Chad walks up behind her and puts his arms around her wast leaning down to give her a kiss. Just standing there like that for a long moment Chad finally lets her go and leans against the counter looking at her. Searching her face he lets out a small sigh.

"So, your dad talked to Mick and Mick doesn't want to throw me out but he suggested the rest of my say this time around should maybe spent else where. That way it might be a little easier on you."

Still searching Rosalyn's face Chad did his best to try and read her to see what she was thinking or feeling. He didn't want to upset her and hoped it wouldn't. At least he wouldn't be to to far away and could still see her. Mick said he could come back anytime too so that was good.

"I agreed, and said I would head into town. I know its not as close as being here but its better than being banned from the ranch or causing you even more trouble. Maybe next time I come to visit I can stay here and your dad will be ok?!"

Moonlight

"I'm fine." The words came out of Scott's mouth too quickly, and he knew it. His eyes glue themselves to his monitor as he types in his password. "Had a rough night... again... that's all."

The pause that follows sends heat up his neck and he finally slumps back in his seat. He didn't feel like being here today. The only reason was because Justin told him to. Otherwise, he'd still be in bed. Where nothing could go wrong. Where he could just sleep. Where he wouldn't have to try and get any work done.

"Just, um..." His fingers run along his keyboard absentmindedly. "Make sure I eat something... today... will ya? I'm not doing so well in that department lately." He knew Dalton would sense it was more. He was his best friend, after all. But he didn't know how to voice what else was going on inside of him right now. Justin was right... it really was starting all over again.

A grin sneaks onto Jared's lips and he gives Grace another sidelong glance. They were sitting awfully close together, but... she was here to work today, right? He didn't want to take advantage of her visits. After all, it was her job half the time. Did... that mean she wouldn't want any affection though?

Caught staring, Jared quickly moves his concentration back to his food. "Yeah, that um..." He clears his throat. "That'd be nice. If I ever get back on these stubborn feet of mine, it would be even better. Squeaky wheelchair wheels tend to ruin moonlit walks." He stops. "Not that... moonlight has even been mentioned, although maybe we should try it sometime just to see what happens."

Mick chuckles. "You might not want to say you're a 'great guy' too loudly - somebody might think you've got a big head."

Reaching over he gives Chad's shoulder a pat. "As long as you don't do anything to break our trust, you're welcome here. I'm sorry that leaving is the best option right now. If Jim settles down, it would be nice for all of us to get to know you better."

Putting all her effort into scrubbing a pan in the kitchen sink, Rosalyn barely feels the tear run down her cheek. Everything just seemed to be going wrong and despite a peaceful walk with Chad, she still felt torn and confused. Why couldn't something like this just be simple?

"Rosalyn?"

Whirling around, she accidentally splashes some water out of the sink. "Clint..." She turns quickly back to the dishes before swiping at her eyes. "What do you need?"

"Nothing." He wanders in closer to lean on the counter and just watch her for a few minutes. "You okay?"

More tears form. "I'm fine. Why?"

"I dunno. Figured if I was in your spot, I'd be feeling pretty crappy."

Rosalyn throws him a look. "Was that supposed to be an effort at empathy?"

Clint grins sheepishly. "Maybe. Look, I just wanted to say if you'd rather not go home tonight, you can come to Wendy's and my house if you want."

Rosalyn continues to scrub the pan. "What? Don't approve of me spending the night with Chad?"

Clint sighs. "I didn't mean that. I know you didn't do anything stupid - other than being there with him all night, which did look pretty bad. But I have a feeling you won't do that again so... I just wanted to give you another option, that's all."

Finally pausing her work, Rosalyn nods, her eyes remaining on the soapy bubbles. "Thanks... that means a lot."

"Sure." Clint gives his sister's arm a squeeze. "I'll see you later?"

"Mm... yeah." Left alone again, Rosalyn lets her tears spill over once more. Why couldn't her father possess the same understanding that her brother did? Clint could be a retard, but Rosalyn knew that this was the real him, underneath all his boyishness. Why, oh why couldn't her father be like that? She honestly wondered how long Chad would put up with all of this before he changed his mind about being with her.

Drain

Looking to Mick again as he talked Chad gives a thoughtful nod. He could tell Mick was not saying everything he was for the sake of himself or even Jim but for the sake of Rosalyn. He did have a point too and Chad understood it. Still it hurt though, and it felt like he was being punished for something he didn't even do.

"Ok, I can move to being in town. As I still welcomed here though?"

Chad new it was a silly question and he felt like a high schooler asking it but it was one he wanted to know the answer. He wanted to make sure that if he did want to show up, or did come back he'd be able too. The freedom to know he could do so, sometime was nice and he hoped it was ok.

" I really am a great guy, I just hope one day maybe Jim can get to know me for himself. I'd like that anyways. I guess I better pack my stuff up and let Rosalyn know whats going on. Thanks Mick for giving me a chance even if your brother didn't."

As Jared was a little hesitance to answer her question Grace new why  even if she didn't say anything about it she just let him take his time answering her. Hearing some of the things he liked to do she gives a smile. They sounded fun, and maybe something she would like to try with him some day, including spending more time together.

"Mmmm...I think those sounds like fun. Maybe once your talking a little better we can go out and try to do a few other things we never have before to see if we like them. Than it would also help with the spending time with me part."

Grace gives a smile at the though of spending more time with Jared. She liked that thought doing more things with him and getting to know him better. Even if his past was clouded she liked thinking about what the future held and why God had let them meet. It was an exciting thought that she looked forward to finding out.

Looking up seeing someone come into the room Dalton couldn't help but smile seeing Scott. It was nice seeing his again and after feeling pretty crappy this morning knowing his friend would be helping him was a nice surprised.

"Hey there Scott what a nice surprise to see you. Nothing to exciting at the moment, than again at the moment I think I kind of like it that way."

Giving a smile Dalton takes a closer look at Scott. There was something there he was trying to hide and he could tell. He couldn't help but wonder what it was that was bothering his friend today. He didn't want to put him on the spot or anything but he did want to make sure he was ok too.

"How are you today? You look a little tired..I don't want to drain ya to much if you are."

Obvious Silence

Mick sighs deeply and shakes his head. He knew where Chad was coming from. He could see both sides. "I know you're not trying to disrespect anybody. I don't have any problems with you or you being here." His fingers pick at a chip in the fence rail. "I do think you're wrong about one thing though..."

His eyes return to Chad's. "I think you might find that Rosalyn wouldn't be too upset if you were to leave. I'm not saying she doesn't care - I can tell she does. But at this point, having you here is just causing a lot of unnecessary stress. She'd probably much rather drive into town to spend peaceful time with you, than have you stay here and always have to look over her shoulder."

He pauses, choosing his words carefully. "It's too early in the game to make her choose between you and her father. If you don't loosen your grip for a while, you risk her breaking things off just to end the tension and fighting. I know you two have a lot of fast-forming feelings for each other, but those can be the most dangerous. Don't rush it. If you decide to stay in town, Rosalyn's not going to blame you. Instead, I'd wager she'd be relieved."

Left alone again,  Eric eases back into his pillow, a smile on his lips. Not too long ago, he would have rolled his eyes at someone saying they'd check on him. He would have said he could take care of himself and didn't need a nursemaid. Today though... having Stacy care enough to want to come check on him... well, he couldn't deny that it made him feel good.

Now to get this silly leg to calm down, and he could actually enjoy the weekend.

"Those don't sound like kid things," Jared muses. The zoo and museums were just as interesting to adults as kids, at least in his mind.

Grace's question brings about a strange sort of silence. He should have known better than to start this conversation, but he hadn't thought about it being turned around to him. Taking another bite of chicken, he stalls.

Eventually, he shrugs. "I dunno." His eyes remain on his food. There were a lot of things he used to like to do, but... none of them seemed to be very appropriate to mention now. They were things Grace wouldn't do, and probably wouldn't approve of, either. They were things he'd think twice about now, and most likely turn down. Otherwise though...what was there?

A sidelong glance in Grace's direction gives his eyes the chance to betray him. Was the silence as obvious as it felt?

"I like listening to music," he finally answers. "And... I like walks on the beach, and..." His voice softens. "I like being with you."

Scott slowly makes his way into TJY, taking the back route. It was late morning - late enough that probably anyone who might have noticed his absence would have guessed he was staying home again. But...he'd told Justin he'd come today, so he'd forced himself to get out of bed several hours late, even though he felt like he'd been run over by a truck. Despite being exhausted, the night had not been an easy one.

Making it to the office without having to talk to anybody, he slips inside. And seeing Dalton, he could kick himself for having forgotten his friend would be back to work.

"Hey..." He forces a smile as he comes over to the desk and finds his chair. "Welcome back."

Turning on his monitor, he tries to mask his body language so Dalton wouldn't think anything was wrong. There was no point in worrying him. "So have I missed anything exciting today?"
