Something is Wrong

"Mm-hmm...." Hunter mumbles his agreement that this would work as Katie returns to kiss him  again. Slipping one arm around her shoulders, he holds her close while his other hand finds her hair, raking through it gently.

Feeling Katie deepen the kiss, Hunter returns it with just as much passion. Whether he'd planned it or not, he was enjoying being with Katie more and more each day. She was fun, kind, strong, soft... She was special. Problems or not, her affection was sweet and true, and Hunter liked it.

Time didn't really seem to matter at the moment, and Hunter didn't care how long they were there as long as Katie didn't mind either. Withdrawing once in a while to kiss her cheek lightly or down her neck, he'd return to her lips again, rubbing her back lightly or toying with her hair. Despite his knee keeping him from moving around like he wanted, he made use of the somewhat uncomfortable position. Each time he'd end a kiss to hug her tightly or brush her cheek with his hand, he'd always return again with passion, just enjoying giving and receiving the affection. No words needed to be spoken, and the silence lingers, broken only by soft murmurs of satisfaction.

Eventually the kisses grow slower and lighter until Hunter was looking up into Katie's eyes, a soft smile lingering as his hands cradle each side of her face. He was glad they had a spot to be alone so it wouldn't matter how long they'd made out.

"Did I ever tell you how beautiful you are?" he asks quietly. The sunlight bounced off her hair and her eyes were so deep and bright. He wasn't just flippantly flirting - he really did mean it. Katie was beautiful, inside and out. "Trying to leave really was crazy."

Drawn into Chuck's gentle affection, Susanne trembled, but finally allowed him to hold her more closely and kiss her more deeply. She felt a bit awkward at first, not really knowing what to do, but as he continues with patience, she finally figures out how to return the affection softly, though still lets him lead.

Her hands find their way to the back of his head and her fingers run lightly through his hair. It was smooth and soft and she liked how it felt under her touch. Being so wrapped up in his arms and feeling more passion from him than she ever had before makes her heart race as more tingles run down her spine. Though it was still a bit frightening, it was also exciting and it felt... nice. He liked her enough to kiss her... really kiss her.

As the kiss slows and they part, Susanne realizes that she was out of breath, and it felt like her face was on fire. Finding Chuck's eyes, she can't help a shy giggle. "If I'da known it was this fun, I mighta tried it sooner." She really did feel like a school girl, all timid and clueless. But with Chuck... it didn't seem to matter. He didn't mind and never pushed, and it just made her like him all the more.

Her fingers stroke his hair a little more as she smiles at him, trying to calm her wild pulse. "Did... did I do okay?"

A new smile spreads on Jared's face, hoping that Grace really would come early on Friday. She was the only real outside company he had, and maybe he was finally realizing that she really did want to be his friend, even if he didn't understand why. "Okay... talk to you soon."

Hanging up the phone, he grins at his mom before looking down at the tray she'd set on his lap. "My goodness... are you trying to make me fat?"

Lydia thumps his arm. "Not fat. But you need more meat on your bones. You are too skinny."

Jared's eyes twinkle and he shakes his head. His mother was a little on the heavy side, she sometimes had trouble with English, and food was a priority. But he was beginning to feel that he loved her, and maybe Grace was right - maybe she really did just love him and felt badly for him, not herself. "Well, I'll do my best..." He looks again at he sandwich, fresh fruit, potato salad, cookies and a tall glass of water. While his taste buds certainly wanted all of it, his stomach still gave him a little trouble some days so he was a bit careful, trying not to overeat. He really didn't want to have to go back to the hospital for any more intestinal trouble like he'd started out with.

"Thanks, Mom."

Lydia smiles and runs her hand down his cheek. "You're welcome. I will be back soon."

Left alone for a while, Jared turns the sound back on to continue watching television while he eats. Talking to Grace had brightened his day and he felt... good. Unaware of what was going on inside his brain and the healing happening though, he had no idea that this was just a calm before the storm...

And two days later, things were much different...

Seeing a car pull into the driveway, Lydia wipes her hands on her dishtowel, having been washing the dishes in the kitchen. Hurrying to the door, she opens it just as Grace steps up onto the porch. For the first time though, she doesn't beckon Grace inside, but instead, joins her on the porch. "Oh, Grace... I was supposed to call you but... but I just could not." Her face was pale, her eyes flooded with worry and pain as her hands wrung her dishtowel nervously.

"It's Jared. The day before yesterday... in the afternoon, he... he took a nap and... and I don't know what happened. I found him on the floor and he couldn't get up and he was angry and did not want my help."

Even though it had not just happened, Lydia was still visibly shaken from the ordeal. "I did not know what to do, so I called Justin and he came but all it did was upset Jared more. Justin got him in bed, but had to go, and he said to just leave Jared alone for a while, so I did. But when I took him supper, he would not talk to me and he did not want to eat."

Tears form in her eyes as she continues to grip her dishtowel. It was obvious that she had not vented this to anyone else. "All day yesterday and today he has still not eaten and he told me he did not want you to come. He said to call you and cancel the appointment but... but I could not. Something is wrong, Grace." Her voice cracks as she sucks in her breath, trying to remain composed. "I... I thought maybe he would talk to you because you are his only friend. I am sorry, I just... I don't know what to do for him and I don't know why he is so upset. I did not tell Justin he was not better because I did not want to bother him any more. If you would rather leave, I understand."

Inside the house, down the hall and in the makeshift bedroom, Jared sits on his bed, fully dressed on top of the covers. He tightens the muscles in his legs but still cannot move them but inches on their own. But it wasn't that which made him so angry. With arms folded across his chest, his dim eyes stare at the blank wall. His head hurt. His stomach hurt. He wished he'd never survived that accident. He wished no one loved him. He wished he had no friend.

Flow

Katie can't help but give a little laugh under her breath as Hunter gives out a yelp. She felt bad for his pain but couldn't help the little laugh at the thought he should of known better than to do something silly like that.

Looking to him as he lays in the grass Katie cocks her head a little bit. Contemplating going back over to Hunter but letting it linger so he would wonder if she really was or not. Katie liked torchering him just a little bit.

"Well ya know...I don't want to get you to worked up and have you hurt your knee again. Angel would kill me."

Katie gives a little sly smile before shrugging. Shifting around a little bit so she was on her tummy Katie slinks through the grass and over to Hunter so she was over by him but not near his knee. Looking down at him she gives a smile before leaning down and giving him a little kiss and than pulling away again.

"Mmmm...ok, I think this might work."

Bringing her hand to the side of Hunter's face to cradle it Katie leans down and presses her lips to Hunters again. Just letting the kiss last a while this time Katie lets her emotions flow and deepen knowing Hunter wouldn't mind at all.

Feeling Susanne tremble a little Chuck tightens his grip on her just a little bit to know everything was ok, and she was safe. He liked being able to provide a shelter for her, and hold her close to keep her safe. It was nice knowing that she needed him just the way he was and didn't want anything more.

"And you think I do....I'm just going with the flow."

Bringing his hand to the back of Susanne's head and the other around her to support her back Chuck gives a soft smile before leaning into Susanne and pressing his lips against her. Letting some of his emotions, all he had been feeling set free he still holds back just a little. He didn't want to get to into it and scare Susanne right away. So slowly, softly, he let a limited amount of emotions out, to care, caress and show Susanne all he had been feeling. Pulling away slightly his tilts his head the other way and returns pressing his lips to hers once again as his fingers comb through the few loss strands if hair. His grip still firm keeping her ever so safe.

Grace gives a smile. She was happy to brighten Jared's day a little bit or be his sounding bored. It didn't bother her at all and if made him feel better too than it was definitely a good thing.

"Your welcome Jared anytime. You have a good lunch and I'll see you in a few days. Might even see me a little earlier to just hang out for a little bit. Bye for now!"

I promise

Hunter returns Katie's kisses and chuckles. "Mm... yeah, never too tired for those, and... yes, it's definitely a good time killer."

Looking at her out of the corner of his eye, he moves to roll over, his intention to teasingly pin her on her back so he could give her some more kisses. His knee, however, protests an he winds up giving a yelp and returning to his back. Cringing, he lets the pain pass before sighing. "Dang knee... it doesn't want me to have any fun at all."

Turning his head again, to peer at Katie through the grass, he shrugs. "Well, I guess if you want more, you're gonna have to come back over here since I can't come to you. But you better stay longer this time."

Looking back at Chuck, Susanne feels a little tingle run down her spine. How could those eyes of his lie? They were so deep and so true... truer than any eyes she'd ever seen. Everything about him felt so right. Why was she doubting herself so badly? She knew emotions couldn't be dependable... she knew that just because something felt right, that didn't mean it really was right. But there was more to this... a peace... the sense of fitting... the sense of finally finding something she had been missing. He was safe. Respectful. Godly. Gracious. Kind. Oh, why could she not just accept it and fall into a dream come true?

Swallowing hard, Susanne realizes that she had started to tremble slightly. Quite unsure of herself, she shifts around until she's sitting sideways in Chuck's lap, her arms wrapped around his neck. He was so big and strong and warm... she liked feeling small next to him, so she could feel protected.

Searching his eyes, she knew what she wanted to do, she just wasn't exactly sure how, and the more she thought about it, the more unsure she got. She knew that surely he could feel her hands trembling at the back of his neck and she could feel her cheeks growing crimson.

Leaning in, she cocks her head a little, giving his lips a light kiss like she usually did. Drawing away slightly, she catches his eye again, shrinking back just a little. "I... I don't know what I'm doing," she whispers. "So... so just... kiss me like you want to... I promise I won't pull away this time..."

Though sighing deeply, Jared really did feel appreciation for Grace's words. "Thanks... I guess part of me just hopes that if I ever do remember, that I'll actually be deserving of her loving me." He still had his doubts after those brief flashes of memories the other day when he'd been in his car and at the park.

"Lunchtime!" Lydia enters the room carrying a tray from the kitchen.

Jared smiles and motions her over. "Grace, I gotta go. Mom just brought my lunch. Thanks for talking. I'll... see you in a couple days, right?"

More Often

Finished with cleaning and making he was out to the big tree with Hunter Katie felt content. The walks out that way were always nice and the lane was lined with crabapple trees and her company was nice too. Katie didn't mind at all about the slow walk and didn't try to rush Hunter. It just gave them more time to enjoy the scenes around them, and take in the warm air.

Getting to there destination finally Katie watchs Hunter sit and get comfortable not wanting to crowd him to much right away. Finally seeing him settled and his comment that followed she shakes her head before easing down next to Hunter as well. Giving him a little nudge with her shoulder.

"Tired, but not tired enough to miss out on some kisses?"

Leaning into him Katie brings her lips to his letting them linger a little bit before pulling away and smiling once coming back to give him a few more quick kisses before pulling away once more. Just looking into his eyes for several moments before finally speaking again.

"You know this is a good way to kill time can't complain about that. I definitely think we should do this more often."

Susanne's comment about him not being old brings a warmth to his cheeks, and the comment about him being hot brings even more color. She made him feel really good saying that and he couldn't help but bring his face close into hers her feeling her skin against his and smelling the sweet smell of her hair.

"I'm happy you don't think I am old. Really thats all that matters."

Pulling away and looking down into Susanne's eyes it was something Chuck could do forever. They were so deep, and they sparkled with life. To him they were endless pools of wonder and adventure and around every turn was a new adventure.

Sitting in her recliner Grace gives a nod as she listens to Jared even though she couldn't see her. Grace didn't mind one but that Jared had called her, it was actually kind of nice to hear from him outside there normal hours. It kind of made it more one on one, and that there really was a friendship there.

"Having your Uncle seem familiar is really a good thing. It means you might be starting to remember a little more because you didn't even have that with your mom to Justin, so I think thats really great."

Hearing about how Jared though his mom was disappointed she thinks for a long moment  trying to gather her words so they came out right. She really didn't think his moment was disappointed, maybe just hopeful for Jared's own sake.

"Aw Jared I don't think she is disappointed or anything, I think she just hopes for your own sake you will remember better. As for the burden part I am sure she thinks you are far from that. When I am there and we talk about you I see a lot of love in that woman's eyes and if she didn't think you were burden than that wouldn't be there. I think she just loves you so much it hurts to see you have forgotten everything is all."

Burden

Glancing over his shoulder, Hunter grins. "Yeah... I still hear it calling." Part of him would just as soon spend some more time alone, but part of him enjoyed Katie's company too much to do that. And besides all that... he knew that Katie had her reasons for being here at the ranch in the first place - it wasn't about him. He thought she seemed happier lately, but he hadn't talked to her much more about how she felt, how that whole emotional thing was doing, or if she was getting over Jason. Those were things Hunter just didn't bring up, not wanting to overstep his bounds. In the end though... whether he needed extra help now or not, Katie's needs were still very important and the last thing he wanted to do was neglect her.

It didn't take too much longer before Hunter was slowly making his way beside Katie down the lane to the back pasture. It wasn't particularly easy with crutches, especially on some of the rougher ground, but he didn't give up. Once to the tree, he eases down carefully, setting aside his crutches.

Letting out a long sigh, he lies down on his back, his eyes looking up into the tree branches. "Okay, I'm tired." He was glad it would be a while before they had to make the trek back again.

"Of course..." He cranes his neck to look over and up at Katie. He was weary, he was troubled and confused, and he was frustrated. But at the moment, it would be nice to forget about all that for a while. "...I'm not too tired..." He grins, letting the implication hang in the air.

"Oh, Chuck..." Susanne brings one of his hands up to kiss it before leaning her face into the soft warmth. "I still can't decide if all those nice things you always say are true or not, just because it's so hard to believe anybody could like me that much." One of the things she appreciated about him so much was that even though she continued to be unsure about him, he never got upset with her, allowing her time to think everything through and come to her own conclusions. If he'd had any bad intentions, he would have done it already though, right? And if he was after something else, by now he would have given up, wouldn't he? So did she really need to continue questioning his sincerity?

Shifting a little to the side, she turns her head so she can see his face. There were still traces of tears on her cheeks, but she smiles. "One of these days, you're just gonna haul off and whack me one, I just know it."

Her eyes dance with humor. "And by the way... forty-three is far from old, so you don't have an old brain. Forgetful maybe, but not old." Her smile widens. "And trust me... anybody as hott as you cannot yet be over the hill."

"...then yesterday I got a visit from my uncle. I didn't remember him, but I guess I didn't see him much before anyway. Kinda seemed familiar though, ya know?"

Jared sits propped up on his bed, his television muted as he talks with Grace on the phone. It was the first time he'd taken advantage of calling her. He'd just been... a bit lonely and wanted to tell somebody about the last few days but had no one to tell it to. She'd be coming again in a couple days for his therapy but being bound to his bedroom and only part of the house, forty-eight hours was a long time to Jared.

"He asked me a bunch of questions but I didn't remember anything. I felt kinda bad but he was nice. Actually.... nicer than I thought he'd be, compared to Justin." Justin had come just last night and had stayed for about fifteen minutes - a record. Jared wondered if maybe he was really trying to make an effort at coming to see him, yet there was still this feeling in the air that his brother simply didn't like him. Not that Jared could blame him, but... it still hurt.

"I think Mom thought I'd remember more after seeing my uncle though... I think she was kinda disappointed. I really feel like I'm starting to be a burden to her."

Remember

Being pulled over to the sunny spot Chuck didn't mind at all. Just letting Susanne directed him for now on what she wanted, how fast she wanted things. Once she was more comfortable and less shy he wouldn't mind taking control again like a man should in a relationship. It was just at the moment he understood he needed to sit back and chill a little.

As Susanne sits and positions herself between Chuck's legs he just smiles and lets her get comfortable. Letting her place his hands where she wanted them and letting her lay how she wanted too. It was all to comfortable having her that close to him and it give Chuck chills but it also meant she was opening up a little more and no words would be said about it. Leaning his head aganst hers Chuck gives it a small kiss.

"Sounds pretty lonely to me, even if you convinced yourself you liked it that way. I think anyone was crazy though to not realize you were there. Every time something cool happens at the shop I turn to tell you and remember your at work, or home. Than I have to wait till I see you again and by than my old brain has forgotten what I was so excited about in the first place. Or it could simply be your pure butey that takes my breath away so all words are forgotten."

Tightening his arms around Susanne a little more to let her feel his warmth Chuck lets out a small sigh, it was small but a happy one. In a way He felt bad that Susanne had spent her young life like that but now...now he could make up for it. She deserved so much more, Chuck only hoped that being a music love, motorcycle rider would be enough for her. He wasn't rich but he had everything he needed to live comfortably.

"Thank you, for making me so happy Susanne."

As Katie cleans she keeps up some small talk with Hunter but moving to the kitchen talking was a little less. Pouring some floor cleaner into the sink and than running the water Katie watches as bubbles form. Continuing to watch them Katie's mind takes her back...back to the time where She and J had to clean the break room. It ended in a bubble fight breaking out and ended with there vow to always love eachother.

Coming back to Katie realizes the sink was almost full and shuts the water off. A single tear had found its way down her cheek and Katie was happy Hunter was in the other room. How could of love have gone so wrong? Was it really the broken connection that messed everything up, had Jason really cheated on her or was Katie looking for an out from something she didn't understand.

Since coming here it really was not something she had though about much but one thing she had was the face that maybe Jason was telling the truth and he wasn't cheating on her. Maybe she had blown the whole thing out to be more than it was and she didn't even give him a chance to explain. That one thought alone made her sick and hurt.

Snaking her head Katie didn't want to think about it right now. She wanted to continue having a good time, even though she new come tonight the thought might come again and she wouldn't be able to push it away herself.

"So...Hunter, I'm almost done here...is that tree still calling our name?"

8/9/12

The End

Susanne laughs and nods. "Okay, lets just stay a little while longer."

Looking around, she spots a nice sunny place at the edge of the pier. Tugging Chuck's hand, she brings him with her, pulling him down to sit on one of the large rocks. It was a perfect place to sit, even with another rock to lean back against. Just wanting to know what it would feel like, she situates herself between Chuck's legs and uses his chest as a backrest, bringing his arms around her waist. Sighing with content, she hopes he doesn't mind... he was awfully comfortable, and from here they could both still look out at the water. Her head leans back against his shoulder and her hands rest on his, her fingers running over his lightly.

"I used to come here a lot," she mentions quietly. "Either my parents and I would have a picnic, or it would be a church event or something. Usually though, I'd just come out on the pier and sit by myself." Recalling those days, a bit of melancholy settles over her. Yes, she would usually find a secluded spot to be alone, and... most of the time, no one would come looking for her. She'd always concluded that she simply wasn't missed. "Then I'd show back up again right before everything was over and nobody even knew I hadn't participated."

She chuckles even though it wasn't the best of memories. "I guess that's what I get for being antisocial." More so at the time though, was the feeling that she'd been forgotten. "I got pretty good at never being noticed."

She instinctively pulls Chuck's arms around her a little tighter. Was this what it was like to be wrapped in the arms of someone who cared for her? Someone who might... love her? There were days that thought simply brought warm fuzzies and a smile. There were days that it confused her to no end. And there were days that it was so overwhelming all she could do was cry. It seemed like today happened to be one of those days.

A tear slips out her eye and trickles down her cheek. Yes, she'd gotten pretty good at never being noticed... until now. And she only hoped that she wasn't living in a fairytale that would come to "the end" too quickly.

Hunter was glad Katie hadn't taken offense at what he'd said. He knew sometimes he didn't communicate very well... especially to a woman. But they seemed to have worked out this little bump alright.

Smiling a little, he shakes his head. "Naw, I'm... not really all that hungry." He knew he hadn't had any breakfast either, but it was his habit not to eat when he wasn't hungry, and right now, it was the truth. He knew that would bother Katie though. "Maybe I'll just grab an apple later to tide me over until supper."

He did remain at the table with her though and snitched a couple more fries, but nothing else. A few of the others came over to see how he was and chat a little, but eventually the dining room was quiet except for Katie cleaning.

Hunter took up a seat by the window to wait and keep her company, while his eyes roamed the outdoors. His nightmares and the day before continued to run through his mind, over and over. And the voice he'd heard. Let go. Why let go? Let go of what? Was it literal or figurative? It had seemed literal in the river, yet if indeed it was a message from God... what else was He trying to tell Hunter? And why here? It seemed the pieces just weren't fitting. And yet at the same time... he couldn't help but wonder if he was being held here for a reason.

Sharing

Letting Hunter take another french fry Katie smiles and nods her head in understanding. Having Hunter explain earlier a little to her helped her to understand a little better and she he wasn't mad with her. That was a good thing she would just have to watch how she conveyed her feeling. Sometimes it was still a little hard to do that.

"I guess sometimes I don't realize when I am doing pushy either. So I guess I will let you know as long as you let me know in the nicest way possible."

Finding his foot under the table Katie rubs her foot along Hunter's. She was happy they could work things out and everything would be ok between them. It was important to her and she really was sorry she seemed pushy to him.

"So now, I don't mind sharing my food with you but....would you like your own? I can grab it for you."

As Susanne moves to the side of him Chuck gives a smile and as her hang finds his. Her skin so soft it left goose bumps on his arm. His heart told him he was in the right place and he was never frustrated or angry with Susanne. She was special to him, and he new she was nervous so he would not pray on that. When things were meant to happen they would and he believed that with all his heart.

"How could I turn that down? You know I love apple pie and i love yours even more because it tastes so good."

Giving Susanne a little squeeze his smiles grows even more. Each day they spent together Chuck new Susanne was trying to get a little better and that was all he asked that at least she tried. Now inviting him over that was a big step in itself and he was proud of her. It made his heart thump so loudly in his chest that he was sure someone would notice.

"When even your ready to go just let me know or I could stay here for hours."

Nicely

Raising her face once more, Susanne looks up to find Chuck's eyes. Her own still glistened, still overcome with emotions... like she often was around him. She just didn't understand what he saw in her. She knew one day she'd just have to accept it and stop asking why, but it wasn't easy.

"I don't think I could tell you I don't want to see you again... I'm just not even sure that's possible."

Finally letting him go, she moves to stand beside him, her hand sliding down to find his. Looking out across the lake, she breathes deeply the fresh air. It felt good to get out and away from the office. Though getting better about saying "no" to staying late, there were still many an evening she turned Chuck down on a date because of work. This evening though, he'd insisted and she was glad that he had. She really did owe him a lot. He was so very  kind to her, and from her perspective, he gave her far more than she gave him. It didn't seem fair he was always working so hard to win her affections when she was still so hesitant.

Sighing, she leans her head against his shoulder. "When you take me home... do you want to stay for some apple pie?" It was rare she let him inside at all, and even rarer that she ask him to stay for anything. She did feel incredibly shy asking him, but... if she didn't start working at this, one day he might really get tired of waiting around. Nice or not, he was still human and Susanne didn't want to lose him.

"Eh... just because I'm moody sometimes doesn't mean I've got a problem." Hunter taps Katie's foot under the table. He knew now she must have felt the sharpness in his tone earlier and he really was sorry. He just hadn't wanted to discuss what he'd been feeling.

"I know I can talk to you whenever I want," he assures. "And I appreciate that. Just... sometimes there's stuff I really don't wanna talk about 'til I've sorted through it, and I don't do so well with being pressured." He gives Katie a little smile, trying to convey that just because he might not talk about something, it didn't mean anything was wrong or that it had anything to do with her. He was glad she was there and willing to talk to him - it was nice knowing he had her friendship to fall back on. But he didn't like being pushed either. He knew she hadn't meant to this morning, but that's what it had felt like, especially when he hadn't yet said anything to her about his troubled thoughts.

"But I don't always know when I'm being cranky, so you have my permission to tell me if I am." He steals another fry. "Nicely," he clarifies. "No smacking me upside the head unless I'm really being a jerk, okay?"

8/8/12

Look me in the eye

"Mmmm...if I didn't think your boss would hunt me down for kidnapping you I'd say yes to that question."

Just continue holding Susanne Chuck completely ignores Susanne's request for him to stop complementing her. She deserved it no matter what she thought and Chuck was going to make sure she new it. For the first time in his life he'd finally found a woman who was worth his affection and he wasn't going to let the moment just slip by.

"And your going to have to deal with my complements Susanne, or look me in the eye and tell me you never want to see me again and even than I will still fight for you. I give credit where credit is due and where my heart leads me."

Seeing the look in Hunter's eye that was almost like a way of say sorry Katie gives a small smile. Maybe he wasn't angry with her after all. She wasn't mad at him or though he'd done anything wrong but she had though she'd done something wrong.

"Mmm...Sitting by our tree sounds nice today, and if you don't want to watch me clean you don't have to. I know it can be rather boring."

Poping a fry into her mouth Katie gives a smile to Hunter and a small nod. She was happy things seemed to be ok. She'd grown to really enjoy Hunter's company and was happy he was still around. He filled her days with something to do and many smiles.

"Sorry I was being nosey this morning. I just didn't want you to think you were bothing me if you wanted to talk about your problems or anything. I'm just always willing to listen and its never a bother."

Cry

"Oh, Chuck, stop..." Susanne's voice was still quiet as she struggled with accepting his kind words. She always struggled with that though, thinking him far to kind and praising than she deserved.

Forced to look up at him again, she finds his eyes... so soft... so gentle. And though she smiles, her own eyes start to glisten with tears. "Just stop," she begs in almost a whisper. "You always make me cry when you talk like that." They weren't bad tears, they were just tears of pure emotions at someone actually taking the time to give her this much attention... to actually care this much, when she thought she wasn't worth any of it at all.

Returning her face to his chest, she tightens her grip around him and sighs deeply. "I'd like to just stay like this forever... can we? Right here... and not change anything?"

Hunter grins a little as Katie shares her food. His stomach was very hungry, yet he was having a hard time finding his true appetite. He goes ahead and snitches another fry though. "Eh... my morning was boring and uneventful too. Of course... I wasn't with you, so that makes a difference."

Winking at her, he leans over just close enough to kiss her cheek. "That big ol' tree's got my name on it for this afternoon, I think. But not til after I've stuck around here while you clean like I promised." Maybe a little bit of that glint in his eye was an apology from earlier. He knew he hadn't done anything wrong, while at the same time, he knew good and well he'd acted out of character, which surely hadn't seemed right to Katie.

Different

Giving a small chuckle Chuck hugs Susanne a little tighter just feeling her close to him. He loved feeling her close the sweet smell of the shampoo she used in her hair and any perfume or body spray she used. All of it just seemed perfect and wonderful Chuck had never been more sure about a good woman before in his life till he met Susanne. He couldn't describe the feeling or reason he just new.

"How could I get bored of you when every time my eyes lay on you, you make my heart jump. I love you Susanne just the way you are, and I would never want to change that. There is much life left for adventure and I am willing to wait for that adventure with you."

Bringing his finger under Susanne's chin he pushes upwards so he can look into her eyes. Just searching her face for a long moment Chuck's eyes twinkle and shine like they always had when looking at Susanne. There was so much that shown in his expression so many words and emotions unspoken but just waiting...waiting for the right time.

"I don't ever want you thinking I want you a different way because I don't. This...this is what makes you special."

Looking up at Hunter's voice Katie gives a small smile seeing him. She wasn't sure if he would be coming for lunch or not. Katie couldn't help but think he was mad at her and that made her doubt he would be here and she was worried at the same time. Now that he was here though maybe just maybe she had been wrong.

"I don't mind when you eat my food, it just gives me reason to have seconds."

Leaning a little closet to Hunter Katie nudges him back before looking twords her food. Moving the place between them she gives a small smile willing to shake her food with Hunter and not minding at all. She liked sharing and she could always get more if need be.

"My morning was....boring and uneventful. How about yours?"

Bored

"Hunter?"

Having been lost in thought, Hunter jumps and turns at the male voice. "Yeah?"

Mick steps up on the porch, giving Hunter a smile. "Hey. Just thought I'd see how you were doing."

Hunter smirks a little. "Oh, I'm alright. Just following doctor's orders."

"Good." Mick eases down on the other end of the swing, tipping his hat back on his head. "Hope this won't keep you from riding again."

"Naw." Hunter shrugs. "Swimming maybe, but not riding."

Mick chuckles. "Well, whenever you feel like it, we don't mind if you come hang out in the barn, even if you can't work. You don't have to stay cooped up here or in your bunk the whole time."

"Thanks." Hunter picks at a loose thread on his jeans. Apparently his absence this morning had already been noticed. "Look, um... sounds like it's gonna be a couple three weeks til I can ride my motorcycle..." He glances up at Mick again, hesitantly. He hadn't said anything to Katie, simply because he felt more comfortable talking with those who were actually in charge here. "I... well, all of you have been great - more than great, and I just don't want to wear out my welcome. I feel like a freeloader and I'm really sorry to burden you guys with taking care of me. If you-"

Mick holds up his hand to stop him while keeping himself from rolling his eyes. "Hold it right there, mister. I was afraid of this."

"Of... of what?"

"Of you thinking you're a burden or that we wouldn't want you here just because you're laid up."

"Well I can't possibly just expect you to house and feed me for several more weeks!" Hunter's eyes are wide. "I know I'm Katie's guest but-"

"You're our guest," Mick corrects. "And the only way you can wear out your welcome is by thinking we'd just send you on your way when you need the most help."

"I'd be just fine at home. I don't even have a regular job that I'm missing out on."

"You got insurance to cover doctor's visits?"

"Well... no..."

"Physical therapy?"

"Um..."

"Your car's still in the shop? How are you gonna get around?"

"I could find-"

"Hunter..." Mick looks at him with seriousness. "Do you want to leave?"

Hunter's eyes lower again. The thought of going home to his empty apartment really wasn't very appealing. Especially when Katie was still here. And even though he'd already been here almost two weeks... he didn't really feel like leaving yet. He wasn't getting tired of it - on the contrary, he was liking it more every day. "No..."

"Then what's your problem?" Mick shakes his head. "Look, if you can't just accept that we like you and want you here, then when you're back on your feet, we'll work your butt off as payment, alright?"

Hunter manages a wry grin. "By the time I can work, I'll have to leave."

"Then you'll have to come back." Mick shrugs. "Quit making this so hard. This is what a family does."

Family. That strange lump rises quickly in Hunter's throat again. "But... I'm not family," he responds quietly.

"Yeah, well, we got some strange habits."

"What?"

"We adopt people we like. It's kind of a thing with us."

Another grin creeps across Hunter's lips. "You're all nuts around here, you know that?"

Mick chuckles and stands. "Yeah... we kinda like it that way." He gives Hunter's good leg a pat. "Just take it easy and don't worry about how long you're here, okay?"

Hunter finally nods reluctantly. There was just no arguing with this man. "Okay. And... thanks." Watching Mick leave, he sighs deeply. What was it with these people anyway? They liked him more than... his own family.

Dropping his eyes, Hunter finds the thread on his jeans to pick at again. Funny how people like this could be closer than family. Unfortunately, it wasn't bringing any laughs.

Remaining on the porch a while longer, Hunter eventually hears voices inside and knows that lunch is starting. He doesn't go in right away though, preferring to slip in as unnoticed as possible.

Entering through the back with just a little trouble handling the door and crutches both, Hunter spots Katie at her usual table already eating. He hadn't seen her since sharing coffee with her earlier and... he felt a little badly. He hadn't meant to push her away, he just... wasn't feeling much like himself since yesterday, and he didn't really want to talk about what was on his mind - and he knew Katie would want him to.

Making his way over to her table, he doesn't bother getting himself a plate of food yet - it would be hard enough to juggle that and a crutch.

Pulling out a chair next to Katie, he eases down carefully, withholding a groan as his knee bumps the table. Spotting what looked to be homemade french fries on Katie's plate, he steals one, giving her a grin. "Mm... whenever I steal you food, it tastes better. I don't know why."

Leaning closer, his shoulder nudges hers. "How was your morning?"

Smiling up at Chuck, Susanne buries her face in his chest, hiding her red cheeks. "I keep telling you to stop saying things like that," she mumbles. With her arms tucked in close and feeling his own arms around her, she felt as if she were in a warm safe haven. She could smell his leather jacket that he'd worn on their ride, the clean laundry soap in his shirt, and the sweet scent of his cologne. It was a combination that tingled her senses and made her melt.

Finally lifting her face, she squints in the sunlight. "I'm just glad you're feeling better... I have to admit... I was missing our motorcycle rides." She giggles, remembering how terrified she'd been the first time she'd ridden with him. "Imagine me saying that."

Standing on her tiptoes, she gives his cheek a little kiss. She hoped he really was happy with her. Even though they'd been dating a while now, she was still shy about a lot of things. She rarely had him in her house, she still didn't like getting home late from date nights, and she wasn't always as free with physical affection as Chuck was. She'd curl up on his couch with him to watch a movie, and she liked hugs and gentle kisses... especially the hugs... but she shied away from anything more. The last couple times he'd moved for more passionate kisses, she'd pulled away...

That thought brings her face back down to hide in his chest again. She knew he wasn't mad at her or anything, but she was still embarrassed, and worried that he might get frustrated with her, or get tired of taking things so slowly. Even with sweet words like he'd just spoken, she still worried.

Slipping her arms around him, she turns her head to look out at the lake, still leaning into him. "I wish I was braver," she mentions softly. "More adventurous. I'm afraid you'll get bored with me."

Care Basket

Hearing Hunter almost tell her in a nonchalant way that he wanted to be left alone Katie was a bit surprised. He'd never done that to her before and it made her bristle just a little wondering if she had done something wrong.  What she wanted to do was sit there and continue to talk things out make sure everything was ok, but something told her right now that might not be good. The last thing she wanted to do was drive Hunter away.

"Oh, alright. I guess I will see you after lunch than. Have a good morning."

Taking her empty cup and Hunter's too Katie steps off the porch before looking back at him. Turning again she makes her way to the mess hall. She had some time to kill before lunch and than she would start to work right away on cleaning. The sooner she did the sooner it could get done and having Hunter to keep her company would make it go that much faster.

Walking with his arm around Susanne Chuck keeps her close just enjoying being able to be out and about. After being sick for some many weeks on end it was starting to bother him being cooped up. The flu bug had hit him hard this time around and one a few days he could hardly even make it into work. But now being here walking with Susanne on the beach after riding the motorcycle here it seemed that much more special to him.

"Thanks for meeting me today Susanne. I really was going crazy being inside all the time....not being able to see you was quite a shame as well. I liked the care baskets you sent over though. They helped lots and there is just something about a specials woman's thoughts that brings its own warmth."

Getting to the end of the pier and looking out as the vast water in the distance on the horizon little buildings were dotted. It was a clear sky day, and it seemed almost to perfect a day Chuck would not wast. He'd gotten time out, had Susanne to keep him company after prying her from work...it was a perfect day indeed.

Turning twords her Chuck brings a hand to the side of her face she gently runs his hand down her cheek before cradling her face ever so softly. She was so special to him and he cherished every moment he spend with her, never wanting any moment to go to wast. Leaning in his gives her a soft kiss on the lips before retreating and tilting his head the other way coming back in for a kiss. Not letting it linger for to lone Chuck pulled away just smiling down at her. He new she was still unsure of anything but a simple kiss as she had pulled away a few times before and the last thing he wanted to do was scare her away. He'd promised they would take things in her time, and he was going to stick to that not pushing anything more on her.

"You're so amazing you know that. How an old coot like me ever got so lucky is something I will never know but I sure am happy I did."

Mrs. Jones

Glad Katie moved on with the conversation, Hunter nods. "Yeah, sure... I can keep you company after lunch. Not like I have any better offers."

Swishing around the remainder of his coffee, he finally downs it as well. "Thanks for the coffee... I guess I'm a little more awake now." He nudges Katie's leg with his foot. "I need to get a hold of a couple guys about checking in on my apartment and taking care of my car... so I'll catch you at lunch if not before."

He really didn't mean to dismiss Katie... but... for some odd reason he didn't understand, all of a sudden he just felt like being alone.

It was only a few minutes later when he was back on his bed again, staring at the ceiling. Yes, he had to get a hold of some guys back home, but not yet. What bothered him now was that he'd snapped at Katie and didn't even know why. What had she said that made him bristle so badly? He didn't like feeling upset with her, especially when it seemed quite uncalled for.

"...Just...make sure sooner or later you do talk so everything you're feeling won't have to stay bottled inside."

It still gave him a weird sort of churn in his stomach.

"...bottled inside."

"...if you keep all this bottled up inside, it's just going to harm you later down the road..."

Hunter blinks. That wasn't Katie's voice he was hearing anymore. That was Mrs. Jones. His high school counselor.

"What happened, Hunter? Why aren't you living at home anymore?"

"Just wanted to move out, that's all."

"And your grades? Why are there two Fs on your last report? That's not like you."

"So I've been busy. I got a job and haven't had time to study."

"Aren't your parents helping you?"

"No, why should they?"

Mrs. Jones' soft eyes stared back at this seventeen-year-old with compassion and pity. "Do you want to tell me what happened between you and your dad?"

Hunter rocks his chair back on two legs, his eyes landing everywhere but Mrs. Jones' face. "Nothing to talk about."

"You know, if you keep all this bottled up inside, it's just going to harm you later down the road. I want to help you, Hunter. Why won't you let me?"

Because he'd been stubborn. Determined to push through on his own. And too hurt to talk about it.

Hunter closes his eyes and remains lying quietly in bed. It had been years since he had thought about all of this. His dad. The fight. The consequences. The feeling that he was no good and unloved. Come to think of it... it still stung. But why was all of this cropping up now? Why was he thinking about so many things from the past all of a sudden? What had those nightmares done to him? What had that river done?

It wasn't until much later that Hunter eventually emerges from his bunkhouse again. He felt no better though. He was glad he'd figured out why what Katie had said had bothered him, but what bothered him even more was actually finding out the answer - that something from so far in his past was suddenly coming back to haunt him. He didn't like it.

Making his way on his crutches, he stops in to see Angel so she can check his knee again, then he heads for the main building. It wasn't quite lunchtime though, but he knew Katie would be around at some point. He didn't feel much like waiting inside though, when it was so nice outside.

Easing down on the porch swing, he sighs, and lets it sway gently back and forth.

8/7/12

Complacated

Watching her brother as he goes off into the other room Ryan lets out a sigh. She new, that Eli could tell something more was wrong and that he found her behavior strange. She herself found it that way and it bothered her. Right now though she couldn't even work through why to herself everything was going the way it was.

Standing Ryan takes her water and heads to her room patting her leg for Zidan to follow before she shut the door. Flopping down on her head she lets out a long sigh just looking up at the ceiling. Feeling a wet toung on her hand Ryan looks down and gives a smile to the puppy snuggling next to her. Moving her hand over just a little bit so he could come snuggle closer she gives a small laugh before petting his head.

"Why do things have to be so complicated huh? They are not meant to be you know....I like Tal now, not Alec."

As Zidan gives soft bark Ryan brings a finger to her lips giving a soft hush before gently patting the dog on the head. After today she probley would not see Alec again for a long time. She hadn't till today, so maybe just maybe she wouldn't again and than she wouldn't have to worry about any of this. It was just something she didn't want to deal with not when her heart had been broken by him before.

Letting out a small sigh Katie keeps her hand where it was. Hunter's tone made her jump just a little but only because she hadn't been expecting it. She must of hit a nerve and its not like she meant to but this was different from that other stuff he'd been keeping from her...this was different.

"Alright well...I was just letting you know anyways."

Taking the last sip of her coffee Katie sets the cup down on the step before her before giving a little stretch. What would she do today? On a normal day she would suggest doing something with Hunter but now that he was cooped up they had to think of something with limited movement.

"So, its my job to clean up the mess hall today after lunch. Care to join me? I could use someone to chat with while I clean."

Bristle

Eli wasn't particularly glad to know that it had indeed been Alec Ryan had seen at the store, but he was satisfied to find out that he'd read her tone correctly. Now, however, as she gives him the briefest explanation possible, followed by a change of subject, all it did was increase his concern. She hadn't even given him time to respond. Was it just because she knew he wouldn't be happy? Because she didn't want to upset him? Or was it that she just didn't want to think about it?

Studying his beer bottle, his thumb picks at the label and he shrugs. "She's coming home tomorrow I think." It was probably the first time enthusiasm wasn't in his voice when talking about Scarlet returning from one of her trips. He always hated it when she was gone and counted the days until her return, whether it was fifteen days or two days. Tonight though... perhaps his enthusiasm was just held back by the confusion he felt for his sister's odd behavior. First her reaction to Alec's phone call and now this. Not that he thought it wouldn't upset her, but... she usually would talk to him about anything. He didn't really feel badly, just... well... maybe just a little he did.

Finally looking up at Ryan, he forces his own smile before standing up. "I guess I'm gonna head to bed." Though he wanted to question her further, he wouldn't. She had a right to her own privacy and if she'd wanted to say more, she would have.

Picking up some of the trash from the coffee table, he walks past the couch, giving Ryan's shoulder a pat. "Sweet dreams."

Going to the kitchen, he puts a few things away, along with gathering up a few tools they'd missed earlier. He really didn't want to go to bed, come to think of it. But he supposed he didn't want to stay up either. And maybe... just maybe, this whole thing with Alec bothered him simply because he himself had been Alec's friend and he didn't know what to feel now.

Hunter doesn't mind when Katie moves closer. On the contrary, he enjoyed her soft affection. He wasn't expecting what she said though, and he didn't know whether to be appreciative or offended.

Something between a groan and a scoff comes up before he takes another sip of coffee. "Katie, I've probably got a few cobwebs that need swept up, but bottles aren't my thing. And even if they were, I like them to stay on my own shelf, not spilled out to the public."

It wasn't until after the words were out that Hunter realizes his tone had been just a tad sharp, and it surprises even himself. Katie had never made him bristle like that before - why now? Glancing at the ground, he fiddles with his coffee mug. "I appreciate it," he thanks her, his tone much more soft. "But I'm fine. My knee is the worst of my worries."

Ages

Looking over her shoulder at Tal Ryan blushes a little bit. She was great around cars and could name all the tools she needed like the back of her hand. There wasn't a wrench or a drill she couldn't see and name. But when it came to normal house hold tools, or something you wouldn't find in a auto shop she was lost and she new it.

"What would I do without you around to make sure I know what saw is what hummm? Save me from some never ending teasing of my brother."

The rest of the night moved on all to quickly. Zidan had his door, everyone had there pizza, cuddles were shared and than before anyone new it goodbyes were being said with promises of eventful days tomorrow being said.

...Sitting down on the couch with a cold glass of water in hand Ryan leans her head back against the clock. She had to work the early shift tomorrow and she new bed was calling but sleep was just not what she wanted right now.

Hearing her brother comment Ryan brings her head up and looks at Eli. All night she hadn't though about Alec, she had pushed what happened today aside. Now though as Eli brings it up Ryan remembers and everything just comes back again.

"I did say Alec you were listing, woot."

Smirking a little Ryan new Eli wanted more than that, and maybe at this moment it wasn't time to joke. But she felt better making it a joke and not so serous when really it wasn't.

"I said Alec because I ran into him in the hardware store..and I mean literately. Nothing bad happened, everyone is ok, I'm ok. We exchanged a few words nothing to major and than we both went or own ways."

Giving a little shrug Ryan takes another sip of her water before just looking down at the ice cubes that were floating around. Letting out a small sigh she looks up at Eli again and gives a big smile. Maybe a subject change was in order to something more cheerful.

"So when is Scarlet due back again? I feel like its been ages since I last saw her."

Continuing to just watch Hunter Katie new there was so much more going on inside of him that what he was letting on. Some might think she was a mind reader, or her powers where back now affecting everyone but in truth Hunter's eyes betrayed him. They always did and there was so much emotion locked inside of them it was hard not to read if she looked deep enough.

"My day is going to be pretty boring, and your thoughts are not worthless."

Scooting a little closer to Hunter Katie lays a hand on his good knee. She continued to just watch him before taking another sip of her coffee and looking out into yard and just studying a few different things. She wasn't as good with words as she Aunt was, and sometimes she still had a hard time describing what she wanted to but Katie as always there and would always help when it was needed...no matter what.

"I'm always here when your ready to talk Hunter, and so are many other people. Just...make sure sooner or later you do talk so everything your feeling wont have to stay bottled inside."

Walking with Reese behind her into the kitchen Angelica can't help the smile, and laugh that escapes. In a way it almost felt like they were married already. She was so comfortable in this house and around Reese that it was like she'd been here for years and it make it that much more perfect.

"But it dosn't look as good if you cute it wrong and than it runes the taste because it looks funny....duh!"

Going to the fridge and taking out the cheesecake Angelica brings it over to the counter and sets it down. Looking at Reese and taking the knife Angelica just shakes her head before slicing into the cake. Cuting two pieces she hands on to Reese and one for herself.  It looks so delicious she could hardly wait for the first bite.

"El postre es servido. Dessert is served!"

So...

Following Ryan to the back room, Tal scans the rather messy area before flipping on the light. Glancing to the one drawer, he stifles a little laugh. "Uh, babe... skill saw... not hand saw. I doubt what Eli's looking for would fit in a drawer."

Spotting a cord under a pile of old towels that were apparently stored there for rags, he points. "Now that... is a clue." Moving some of the towels, he nods. "Eureka!" Picking up the heavy tool, he grins. "Although we should give him a hand saw instead - make him spend ten times as long sawing through the door so you and I can grab the couch."

Slipping an arm around Ryan's waist, he pulls her close and gives her another kiss. "On second thought, he probably wouldn't be too happy."

"You guys coming or what?"

Tal rolls his eyes. "Yes, dear," he hollers back to Eli. Walking with Ryan back to Eli, he presents the saw. "This what you're looking for?"
"It is. Thank you. Now..." Eli stands from where he'd been kneeling, studying the door. "We need to get this thing up off its hinges so we can cut it..."

Once started, it really didn't take all that long to finish the project. It didn't turn out quite as planned, but close enough and at least Zidan could get in and out easily on his own, and that was the whole point. Though finished in relatively good time, it was still late for supper and stomachs were hungry. Pizza was in order, topping off the evening with a tasty meal in front of the television. After that, it was late enough that Tal needed to get home...

...Sitting in the quiet living room, Eli taps his empty beer bottle absentmindedly on his knee as he leaned back in his chair. It was his turn to clean up the plates and pizza box... and he would... but first, there were just a few things he wanted to know.

"So..." It was the first chance he had with Ryan alone, and the topic had not come up at all during the evening - so far from it, that neither man had dared ask her. But now Eli just wanted to make sure everything was alright.

"That phone call... when you were at the store..." He rocks a little in his chair. "You said... Alec?"

"Hmm?" Hunter looks quickly to Katie, bringing her back into focus. "Oh..." He forces a small grin. "My thoughts aren't worth a penny."

He takes another swig of coffee, wishing that he wouldn't be so transparent to Katie. She could read him like an open book. Staring down into the almost-black liquid, he runs his thumb along the rim. He'd like to go for a walk is what he'd like to do, but unless he wanted to swing around on crutches, he was stuck finding somewhere just to sit. Maybe that big old tree would be a good spot for a while.

"So what are you plans for the day?" Changing the subject was as good idea as anything.

Seeing Angelica back into the wall, Reese laughs and quickens his pace to catch her before she could slip around the corner. Sliding both arms around her waist, he walks behind her, giving her neck a kiss.

"How was I supposed to know that a round cake is cut in silly triangles instead of squares?" he defends. "I mean, who cares? It all tastes the same..."

Arriving at the fridge, he lets Angelica go while he retrieves a knife from the drawer. "But I'll let you do it anyway." He hands her the knife, a teasing glint still in his eye.

Million Miles

Ryan can't help but laugh at her brother. He was always quick with his comebacks much quicker than Ryan ever could be but she didn't mind it gave her more fire power and something to strive twords. Some day she would leave hims speechless she just had to wait for that say to come.

"Personaly I am all for the make out session with Tal. I mean I am the one who went to the store for stuff. So technically I did help already and you see Tal would be helping you by keeping me out of your hair."

Bringing her hands up to Tal's that was around her Ryan holds them close to her pushing everything out of her mind. This was what was important, what she had here and now nothing else. This was her life, and she loved it.

"I guess we should get the saw though so he doesn't whine more. Come one we can make out on the way."

Giving a smile and leaning over to Tal Ryan places a kiss on his lips before making her way to the back room. Still her arm was around Tal and his around her and she didn't mind one bit. She liked being close to Tal. It felt nice, it was comfortable, and she wouldn't complain about it ever.

Getting to the back room Ryan looks around before lifting a few things up and than taking some steps back putting her hands on her hips. Now where was that thing.

"Now I have to figure out where Eli put the saw...Can you look in that draw over there? I'll look here again."

Katie gives a smile and a nod. She had her mornings when she wanted to be lazy to so she really couldn't hold it against him. Though she did feel bad that he had to be stuck doing nothing and she could imagine what it must be like. For someone liked her and Hunter that always liked to be moving around being forced to sit still was not an easy task.

Looking off to where Hunter was looking Katie couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking about. His emotions had to be going haywire from what happened the other day and though she hadn't asked he did wonder.

"You look like your a million miles away today. Penny for your thoughts?"

Hearing Reese's growl Angelica can't help the laugh that slips from her lips before returning the kiss. It was amazing how life could change so quickly to something no one ever expected but maybe that was the best thing about life the surprises around every turn.

"Ah the best of both worlds huh? But I guess I can't blame you for like cheesecake too. I'll let that one side."

Giving Reese another kiss Angelica stands from the couch and offers her hands out to him to help him up as well. There was cheesecake and she liked it as much as Reese did so there was no stopping them both.

"This time I get to cute the slices though...last time it didn't work out so well for you. He can cook but he can't slice the cake."

Angelica eyes twinkle as she heads for the kitchen walking backwards as she beacons Reese with her finger to follow. Another laugh slipped out as she backs into the wall. Her aim a little off and missing the door by inches.

Thank Goodness

Feeling the kick to his butt, Eli swats behind himself but isn't quick enough. Throwing Ryan a smirk, he shakes his finger at her as a warning he'd be getting back at her.

Pulled into a hug, Tal wraps his arms around Ryan warmly. Something felt... off. He wasn't sure what or why, but something was just different and it only served to increase his concern. Why hadn't Ryan said what happened at the store? Why was she avoiding it and acting like everything was fine? After seeing her reaction to that idiotic phone message, Tal knew if she'd seen Alec today, that she wouldn't be able to brush it off just like that. Yet she wasn't leaving any openings for questions. Maybe though... maybe it was just her way of dealing with it, and he would have to let it go. Even if he wanted to talk about it, maybe she didn't, and he'd just have to respect that. She'd never said a word to him about that phone message either. Way deep down though in the pit of his heart, something warned him to tread with caution.

Back to reality, he has to let Ryan pull away, and he gives her a smile. "You call this stalling?" He quirks an eyebrow. "I guess maybe I could just stall all day then."

"You have been stalling," Eli responds. Grabbing his toolbox which he'd brought in earlier, he heads for the back door. Although it looked like he'd done nothing on the project, he really had thought the whole thing through and knew exactly how to tackle it. But he didn't mind getting razzed by his sister - at least she was in a good mood... on the surface. He was dying to ask her if it really was Alec she'd seen at the store, but it was pretty obvious that she didn't want to talk about it. Which... in itself confirmed that it had been Alec. Which also bothered Eli to no end.

Still with an arm around Ryan, Tal doesn't let her go completely yet, even when they follow after Eli. For some reason, he just wanted her... close. "We could always just go make out and leave your brother to do the door," he suggests.

"Hey, hey, hey now." Eli was already kneeling at the door. "This is our project, remember? What you guys can do is go get the skill saw from the back room."

Accepting the cup of coffee, Hunter smiles up at Katie. "Thanks. I'm just being lazy this morning." Taking a small sip, he sighs with content. Still wasn't a strong enough drink for what he really wanted, but whoever made the coffee around here did do a good job.

Katie's question brings a shrug. "Eh, I'm feeling alright. Knee hurts like a..." He stops himself and gives her a sheepish grin. "It hurts," he concludes. "Not sure what I'm supposed to do with myself at the moment, but... I guess there's not much I can do about that."

Staring off past the bunkhouses to one of the pastures, for several moments he's lost in thought. His soul writhed with questions and confusion. His heart burned to find answers. But nothing made sense to him. It was all one black abyss... just like the river.

Forgetting Katie was even there, the quietness lingers.

Reese wondered if Angelica even knew how good her words made him feel. For a man who thought love would not come again, this... this was a blessing he'd never take for granted. Tightening his arm around Angelica, he chuckles. "I'd have to agree with you on that one. Although I'm sure we could think of something to do..."

Grinning, he leans his head down and gives a teasing growl before laughing and giving her lips a kiss. Sighing with content, he rests his forehead against hers. "Of course... cheesecake would be good too," he muses. "Although I don't know if I could choose which I'd rather have..." He grins. "Thank goodness I don't have to choose. I have you and cheesecake... if could pry myself up from this couch, that is."

Damage

Shaking her hear like she often did when her brother and Tal joked around Ryan wondered if one day her head would fall off. But even if it did at least she found humor in it and it was funny. Seeing her brother joking around and having a good time with Tal was nice too. Tal was like a brother to him and it was just nice to see Eli take to someone like that.

"Well of course that stuff will do what do you think I did went and got the wrong stuff?"

As Tal stands and comes over to her Ryan gives a wide grin looking up at him. Returning the light kiss and gives a small nod of her head. There was something in his eyes, something different and slightly strange. It was almost like a worry or fear though Ryan wasn't sure why. Maybe she was just imagining things.

"Alright next time you can come too if Scarlet is not around. I guess Scarlet just does something else to him no one else can."

Ryan turns to her brother who was still looking in the bag and reaches out a food to kick him in the butt. Wrapping her arm around Tal she pulls him close in a hug. After seeing Alec today Ryan had felt slightly bad for some of the feelings that had come to the surface. But being back around Tal and Eli Ryan new that this was her life now, and it was one she liked. Tal made her happy, and smile, he'd always be there and true. Yet those feelings Ryan had not want them to come but they had and in the bit of her stomach they made her feel slightly ill.

"Enough stalling lets see how much damage we can do in attempting to put this door in."

Getting the reply message Katie smiles before slipping the phone in her pocket again and heading inside. Going to the kitchen and grabbing two cups of coffee she also grabs some dough nuts. She new Hunter said he wasn't hungry but she was and she didn't want to start eating in front of him with out at least having an extra just in case.

Leaving again her hands slightly full Kaite does a good job of juggling everything like she had done it a million times before. Getting close to the bunk and seeing Hunter sitting outside her smile grows just that much more.

"A nice more, a nice cup of coffee, and a nice face to look at in the morning light. This is the life ya know?!"

Hanging Hunter his cup of coffee Katie eases down on the step next to him. Being at the ranch, in the open air, not worrying about hardly anything Katie loved it so much. Being in Nevada was nice, and she liked her job but she missed being here too. This was always be her home, and a peace of her heart would stay here forever.

Looking to Hunter Katie just watches him for a long moment as her smiles grows a little. There was something about Hunter that Katie could deny, he was rough but soft, even if he'd made mistakes who hasn't?

"How are you feeling this morning?"

Enjoying dinner with Reese Angelica was having a lovely time like always. Small chat circled around the table between her and Reese and ever some laughs were shared. She did her best not to talk about work seeing as thats where most of there time was spent. It was hard though and sometimes she slipped but quickly got back on track.

As dinner finishes and Angelica helps Reese with the plates and the dishes they soon find themself sitting on the couch just continuing to enjoy each other company. The soft music in the background provided a nice atmosphere, and made it even slightly romantic.

Absentmindedly rubbing Reese's arm that held her Angelica couldn't think of a place she would rather be. Sitting here with Reese, enjoying life, taking it slow this was life, and better than anything she had expected for herself.

"Retirement...were not that old yet. However the though of spending more time with you, maybe some where in the cape, just snuggling does sound rather fun. Than again spending any kind of time with you is fun and it doesn't even matter what we are doing."

Real Food

Waiting for Ryan to get home, the kitchen is unusually quiet, with both Eli and Tal trying to make smalltalk once in a while, but neither admitting aloud that they were both concerned about Ryan. She'd seemed fine on the phone but... both men were still wondering what had really happened at the store.

Hearing her enter the apartment and seeing Zidan go trampling to the door, Eli breathes a little sigh of relief. Watching his sister come in, he studies her perhaps more intently than usual, as if trying to read a story between the lines. Her accusation though his jaw drops. "Slacking? Us?" He looks at Tal for help.

Tal smirks and points to the door. "Do you really think we were gonna cut a hole before you came back with the supplies so we'd know what size to cut it?"

"Who's 'we'?" Eli intervenes. "You've just been sitting on your butt since you got here."

"Hey, I'm the cripple, remember?" Tal taps his leg cast. "All I can do is sit."

"Yeah. Until you're on the couch with my sister."

Tal's cheeks flush red and his eyes narrow. "Ooh... low blow... low blow."

Eli grins and stands up, swallowing the rest of the beer he'd been working on. "Okay, so... what did hard working sister bring home for us, eh?" Wandering to the bag, he noses around. "Ahhhh.... yes, this will do. Very nice, very nice."

Tal rolls his eyes before looking up at Ryan. "When did you say Scarlet's coming back? It's like babysitting an eight-year-old when she's gone."

"I heard that," Eli mumbles, still busy with the supplies.

Gaining a smile, Tal stands up, setting his hands on Ryan's shoulders and giving her lips a light kiss. "Next time, I'm going with you so I don't have to stay home with him," he teases. Or...was it a tease?

Seeing Katie's message, Hunter grins.

Morning!
And wait...coffee IS real food didnt u know that?

He pauses in thought, considering his stomach which really didn't feel an awful lot like eating anything this morning. Ever since last night, he just didn't feel quite right.

Nah. Just coffee.
Thanks.

Sending the text, Hunter lets himself lie in bed a few more minutes before finally forcing himself back up again. Grabbing his crutches, he heads for the door and manages to get himself out on the porch. Easing down on the top step, he leans against the railing and sighs a deep sigh of the fresh morning air. It would be nicer drinking coffee with Katie out here.

The ice cream was in the freezer, the sink was fixed and the kitchen floor all cleaned up. It hadn't taken Alec too long after getting home to finish everything up, and he'd had a bit of time to work in the shed as well. But there were only so many ways he could keep his mind busy and off of earlier events. Off of Ryan.

Now standing in the bathroom and leaning over the sink, he lets the cold water drip off his face. Looking in the mirror, he sees his eyes that were still red and swollen. When Misty came home soon, would she notice he'd been crying again? Probably. She always knew.

After splashing some more cold water on his face, he finally takes a towel to dry off, and heads for the living room. Sitting in the corner of the couch, he pulls his knees up close to his chest, not bothering to turn the television on like he did some afternoons. He'd done his fair share of work today, but it didn't seem like it was that, that was making him feel so tired. It felt more like heartache that was draining his energy.

Reese laughs outright and shakes his head, returning his focus to the stove. "I'll take that as a compliment, but you might get pretty tired of the five things I know how to make." It was probably more than that, but he didn't think much of it. He'd had to learn to cook after his wife had died, if he and Wyatt were going to have any good meals. So learn, he had.          And every once in a while, like tonight, he did enjoy it - more for the purpose of doing something nice for someone else, rather than thinking his food was all that great.

"Okay..." He stirs the veggies a little more and checks the rice one last time. "I think we're ready to go. Wanna get some plates?"

Supper really did taste good, and even Reese had to admit the stir fry had turned out better than he'd thought it would. After scraping their plates clean, both moved to the living room couch where Reese put on some relaxing music. Settling back with his arm around Angelica and his feet up on the coffee table, he sighs deeply. "Now this... this is the life."

He turns to kiss the top of her head. "I love my job but... maybe retirement wouldn't be so bad." He chuckles. "But you'd have to retire too, otherwise I'd go crazy."

Slacking

Finishing with what she needed and hang up the phone Ryan gets to the checkout. Not really feeling like walking all the way to the other end for a short line she just waits in the long line it didn't bother her and she wasn't in much of a rush.

Minutes later Ryan was through the line and carrying the brown paper bag out to her car. Putting it into the back seat Ryan gets into the front and starts the car. About to pull out she stops seeing the not on the windshield. She new Alec's writing, and could tell it was his. How had he known what she was going to say when she got cut off? Had it been that obvious?

Opening the door and reaching out she takes the note before shutting the door again. Just sitting in the parking space for a few more moments Ryan holds the note in her hand and runs her fingers over the words. Looking up for a moment she takes the note and puts it under the strap on her visor. Why she was saving a little note that only had a few words she wasn't sure but in those few words it seemed to pack a powerful punch.

Getting home it takes a little longer since Ryan has sat in the parking lot a few extra moments. Opening the door and hearing the pounding of little dog paws she can't help her smile. As she reaches down to scratch and pat the little dog on the head.

"Hey there Zidan, where is everyone huh, where are they."

Watching the dog dart off again into the kitchen Ryan walks after him coming in and setting down the bag on the table. Turning around and seeing both Tal and Eli Ryan looks back to the door and than them again. A grin spreads across her lips in humor.

"What a hole is not even cut yet? Now who's slacking?"

Heading over to the mess hall Katie takes in a deep breath of air. The chores this morning were light and now done. Katie had showered and was not ready for something to drink and eat. It was the normal drill really, just a pattern one could fall into.

Feeling her pocket vibrate Katie pulls out her phone. Seeing the text message she gives a smile. At least it was an easy way for Hunter to get ahold of her if he needed anything and she didn't mind one bit.

Good Morning you!
Was wondering if you were awake yet.
Coffee...right I can do that. Some some real food too?

Giving a smile Angelica couldn't help but admit to anyone who asked how happy she sure. Sure she worked a lot and she wished she could make more time to spend with Reese but all in all she was very happy and loved being in his company. It was just so peaceful in his house and comforting.

"I'm always honest with you silly."

Leaning forward and taking the bite of steak Angelica brings a finger to her lip catching some run away sauce that wanted to dribble down her chin. Making a please murmur Angelica gives a nod before laying a hand on Reese arm.

"That is...amazing. Everything you cook turns out so good. When we get married I think you should continue to cook. It's far...better than my cooking for sure."
