Familure faces!

Hearing the bell to the shop jingle Anastasia doesn't look up right away as she continues to put stickers on some plastic sheets and than slipping the records inside. Today had been a busy on, or what they considered busy anyways. Between a few people coming in and there two shipments there was little time to stop till break.

Catching some movement out of the counter of her eye Anastasia looks up. Seeing Quinn back again she can't help the smile that forms on her lips just seeing him. After heading home last night she stayed awake a while longer just laying in bed and thinking of all that happened.

Taking him in for a moment before saying anything Anastasia takes not to the new look in his eye that had not been there yesterday. His heart was heavy, like a ten pound weight was on his shoulder. Anastasia couldn't help but be a little concerned. Did something happen with his brother?

Grabbing the Elvis cd from the counter next to her Anastasia moves from behind the counter and over to him giving a smile.

"Elvis kept me company last night while I tried to fall asleep. I though maybe you had done it on purpose as a reminder of our fairy tail."

Cocking her head a little Anastasia study's Quinn for a moment. Just watching him and his body language. Standing next to him she reaches her hand out and bumps his fingers for a moment letting them link with his before dropping away.

"You ok? You look like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders."

Looking up as Leo talks about Axel Ryan glances out into the parking lot. It was odd that Axel had called in sick, but left than came again. She couldn't help but worry a little.

Glancing over at Leo again Ryan gives a laugh and a shake of her head. Now that her and Leo were getting along and it seemed the air was clear they were hanging out again at work. The pressure seemed to be slowly leaving them both and normal was becoming more achieving.

"Maybe he's just having a rough day nosey."

Giving another laugh Ryan playful elbows Leo. She wasn't sure what was going on with Axel but she couldn't help her worry for her friend. Putting her rage down Ryan gives a small nod.

"I'm gonna take an early lunch. If Alec shows up let him know I'll be out shortly."

Heading into the back and punching out for lunch Ryan comes back out and heads out the side door. Axel often didn't like company but maybe today he did need a friend. Going up the step and standing at the door Ryan gives a soft knock before giving a little call.

"Axel, it's Ryan. I know you called into work today I just wanted to make sure everything was ok."

Hmmm

Receiving Jess' reassurance, he manages to give her a small smile and he squeezes her hand. "Thanks, Jess."

Pulling her close, he envelopes her in a hug, resting his head against hers. She thought he was so strong. And sometimes he was. But today he didn't feel like it. "Sometimes a rainbow needs a little extra help to shine brightly."

Kissing the top of her head, he lets her go and moves to the toaster again, trying to get past this topic for a while. He had a couple hours to clear his head and he didn't want to spend his time worrying - at least not while Jess was still here.

Quinn sinks down on his bed again and stares at the phone in his hand. What on earth was he doing? This was all so bizarre. So unexpected. So... like God.

Sighing, he looks at the clock. He had a while yet. Maybe a walk to clear his mind would be best. Then he'd find his way down to the coffee shop again if he didn't get lost.

A couple hours later, Quinn sits at a table at the Coffee Bean, sipping coffee even though he didn't really feel like it. maybe it would help settle his nerves. He was a little early, but that was okay with him. He'd rather be the first one here to at least have the upper hand to start.

Outside, Axel parks his car and fiddles with his keys. Jess had gone to work, he'd dragged his feet getting ready, and he was finally here. He'd opted to come alone... it was better that way. Was Quinn already here? He had no idea. There was an out-of-state car here, but he didn't even know where Quinn lived now.

It was at least another five minutes before he finally got out of his car and went inside. His stomach was in knots and his pulse racing. He hated this feeling. Hated it with a passion. But it would be over soon. Whether good or bad, this meeting wouldn't last forever.

Seeing the front door open, Quinn sits a little straighter, cocking his head slightly to see if it was just another customer, or someone he knew. There was no mistaking Axel. Older... not the kid he'd seen seven years ago... a little broader in the shoulders but still slim and fit. Different haircut but still unmistakeably red. Quinn's stomach lurches as he stands up from the table.

Axel's eyes sweep the room and land on the man who had just stood. His own feet come to a halt and he just stares. Quinn... He looked different with a beard, but Axel still recognized him. His brother seemed a little rougher, at least in appearance. His eyes had a weary glint to them but they were still bright - he was healthy... and just as nervous as Axel was.

Swallowing hard, Axel finally walks closer until he was face-to-face with Quinn. Locking eyes, he slowly extends his hand, willing his fingers not to tremble.

Quinn glances down to his brother's hand, then back up again to meet eyes that matched his own. This man was a convicted rapist. Did he dare shake his hand? Moved by more than his own will, Quinn's hand extends and clasps Axel's. "You look good."

Axel feels the connection only a brother can feel and it makes his pulse race faster. "You too."

Still sizing each other up, they back apart and sit down across from one another at the table. Axel grabs a sugar packet to play with and finally looks back to Quinn. "So... what do you want?"

Quinn's fingers fiddle with his coffee cup. He didn't even know the answer to that. But that wouldn't sound very good, would it? "I have no idea."

Axel blinks. If Quinn was here to cause trouble, he would have already said something to imply as much, right? "Well..." His confusion shows on his face. "Why... why did you want me to call?"

Quinn takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, his eyes finally lowering. "I... I don't know. I just... I saw your dogtags and... I was shocked. It was the first thing I thought of." He looks back up again. "I thought you were still in prison."

Now it's Axel's turn to sigh. "I was only there for about two years."

"How?"

"Good behavior." Axel swallows hard. The one thing he'd never talked about, even with Jess, was the time he'd spent behind bars. Perhaps because it has been worse than he'd ever wanted to admit. Perhaps because leaving it at good behavior implied that he'd been fine, even if it wasn't the truth.

Quinn quirks an eyebrow. "That's it?"

"Probation... rehabilitation program... for a year. Look, I really don't know why we need to rehash this." Axel's discomfort shows through. These weren't good memories.

"Maybe because I need to hear it," Quinn counters. "You're loose on the streets, I think I have a right to know."

Axel's eyes shoot up in a fiery glare he hadn't used in years. "What do you really want, Quinn? Was I suckered into you wanting to stir up trouble? You're too late - the community has already tried and I'm staying here."

"So the truth got out, huh?"

An all-too familiar anger surged through Axel's veins, brought on by memories of a similar conversation seven years ago. He was tired of defending himself. "Dang it, Quinn." Standing from the table, he looks down at his brother. "You still can't see past the end of your nose. Even after all these years. Please... if you're just passing through, go quietly and quickly. My nightmare ended when I was released."

Quinn's sights jerk up as Axel rises and he can feel his own irritation building. He hadn't intended on starting an argument... the words had just slipped out. His conversation with Anastasia nagged the back of his mind, reminding him that he may have lacked all of the facts. "I wasn't planning on staying," he retorts. "Especially not with this reception."

Axel shakes his head and shrugs lamely. "I really don't know what you want, and if you're not willing to tell me, then there's nothing keeping me here, and there's no reason for me to welcome you with open arms."

"I'm sorry I'm harsh," Quinn replies quickly. "But it's kinda hard not to be with someone like you."

"Someone like me?" Axel scoffs. "You mean a rapist?"

Silence.

Quinn stares up into his brother's eyes, reliving all the mixed emotions that had haunted him for the last seven years. "You said it."

"No." Axel was tired of being the victim. Setting his palms on the table, he leans over Quinn. "You said it. And so did everyone else. You... our mother... our father... our friends. For some reason, no one cared to actually believe the truth. And I am not responsible for your unwillingness to have faith - you'll have to answer for that yourself." Spinning on his heel, he aims for the door.

"Axel!" Quinn stands up, feeling more torn than he ever had before.

Stopping, Axel throws up his arms before turning back around. "I'll ask you again... what do you want?"

"I want... I want the truth."

Axel shakes his head, a wry grin forming on his lips. "No... you just want to feel good."

Quinn watches helplessly as his brother turns back once more and walks out the door...

It wasn't lunchtime. It was later than that. One, maybe two o'clock. Quinn wasn't even sure where he'd been... he'd just been driving. He'd gotten lost a couple of times, but hadn't cared. Somehow he'd found his way back through town again. And this time, his destination wasn't back to the hotel.

Entering the shop just as he had the day before, his eyes glance around the racks and shelves. Today though, his heart was even heavier. He hadn't thought it was possible after yesterday, but today was worse. Maybe because he felt he'd screwed up. He still hadn't learned to control his tongue. Whether he was wrong or right about what he believed, the meeting should have lasted longer.

Wandering back to the classic music again, Quinn runs his hand over the old records, not looking for anything in particular. Or maybe he was. But it wasn't a record.

Clanging around in the auto shop, Leo looks up as he sees Axel's car return to the lot. Watching him park then head around the side to go upstairs, Leo thinks for a moment then shakes his head. Though returning to his work, he looks over his shoulder at Ryan, keeping his voice down so as not to bother the others.

"Darrel said Axel called in sick this morning... but I saw Jess leave his place earlier, then he left, and now he's back and he doesn't look sick at all."

He wasn't trying to accuse Axel of anything, but his actions were definitely peculiar and Leo was fishing, trying to see if Ryan knew anything.

Proud

Staying in the kitchen and munching on her bagel Axel had made for her Jess didn't say anything while he talked but just was support to him. She new just being there and giving him nods here and there did him good. She was the support Axel needed and it made her feel good she could help him like he had her.

Taking the last bite of her bagel right as Axel gets off the phone Jess lets the quiet after his comment linger for a long moment. Finally coming over to him Jess takes his hand in her own and brings it to her lips giving it a soft kiss.

"I'm so proud of you Axel for calling. I think this is all scary but...I know you can do it. Your a strong guy and this is out a tiny step to a bigger plan."

Giving a little smile back Sapphire felt a little better Gage has said sorry but still she felt kinda stunned that he had snapped at all. Gage was always so calm and easy going it was just..strange.

"Ok, I'll see you at five. Have a good rest."

Giving Gage a returned kiss Sapphire gives a wave and heads out of the parking lot heading back to work. Her mind seemed heavy as Gage's words still seemed so alive.

Awkward

Gage keeps his eyes out the window for most of the ride to his apartment, engaging only in some surface smalltalk. By the time they are parked and Sapphire is asking him about tonight though, he was feeling even more badly for being grouchy with her.

"Yeah... five o'clock will work." He nods and unbuckles his seatbelt, ready to exit but he pauses.

Turning back to her, he gives her a look of apology. "Sorry I snapped at you. Guess it was just a long night at work." Leaning over, he gives her cheek a tender kiss. "See you tonight and... I promise to be in a better mood." He muster up a smile for her and gives her cheek another quick kiss before getting out of the car.

Waving as she backs out of the lot, he finally turns and heads inside, his walk a little heavier today.

The prospect of hanging up on Quinn brings a wry grin to Axel's face. Sighing, he turns and reaches around Jess to take the bagels out of the toaster. "Here... at least you can go ahead and eat. I'll toast mine next."

Fingering the number again, his stomach churns. But finally his thumb begins to hit the buttons on the phone. Pacing in a small circle, he hears the ringing and waits. His eyes drift to Jess again. He was sorry that he was distracted and not giving her his full attention like usual, but he was glad she was here too.

Quinn jumps as his cell phone goes off. He'd just started to doze. Grabbing the phone from the nightstand, he looks at the screen. Unknown. His heart skips a beat. It could be anybody... it could be a wrong number... But somehow he knew it was not.

Sitting up on the bed, he waits for a couple more rings before finally answering. "Hello?"

Axel stops his pacing dead in his tracks. It had been seven years, but the voice hadn't changed much. His mouth goes dry and his pulse quickens as he tries to find his own voice. "Quinn?"

Quinn blinks. It was Axel. He'd actually called. "Yeah..." His response wasn't quite as strong as he'd intended. "Axel?"

"Yeah." Axel throws Jess a quick glance. He'd never felt so vulnerable around her before. "You... wanted me to call?"

Quinn swallows hard and stands up to start pacing the hotel room. "I... ran across a girl... your girlfriend? Saw the dogtags and, um..." Well, what did he really want? Why had he wanted Axel to call him in the first place? Now he felt stupid.

Axel waits as the pause drags on and he starts walking in a circle again, tucking his free hand in his jeans pocket. "She said you'd be in town a couple days."

"Right. Just... passing through."

"Oh."

Quinn cringes a little. This was not going well. He couldn't remember a time he'd felt so awkward. Still pacing, he tucks one hand in his pocket. "So you... live around here?"

"Yeah." Axel wasn't sure how much information he wanted to give out. The tone of Quinn's voice didn't sound threatening but who knew what his motives were? He stops pacing and looks to Jess again as if begging for help, but knowing she could do nothing. "Do you... want to get together?" He shrugs lamely, not having thought of asking that and he waits for Quinn's response while still looking at Jess.

Quinn stops at his window and looks out again, surprised by the question. The last time they'd spoken, they'd disowned each other. Quinn had walked away - turned his back on his brother. And now that brother wanted to see him? A pang in the bottom of Quinn's heart warned him that perhaps it was him all along that had had the biggest problem with the relationship. "Um..." He stalls. He wanted to say no. And then he thinks of Anastasia. He recalls her words about reasons, and he recalls his agreeing that God had His hand in this. If Quinn said no now, he'd never find out what the plan had been. "Sure."

Axel blinks. His brother wanted to see him? After believing the charges against him? After turning his back? After rejecting him and cutting all ties? Now he wasn't so sure this was a good idea. But he'd already asked. He had to follow through. "Okay..." He racks his brain for a location.

Quinn seems to read his mind. "I was at a coffee shop last night... the Coffee Bean?"

"Yeah I know where it is." Axel figures it was as good a place as any. Public but quiet. "When?"

"Um..." Now it was Quinn's turn to think. Now? Later? Tomorrow? "Lunch?"

Axel hesitates. His stomach was already off the way it was. "I... that might not-"

"-be a good idea," Quinn finishes for him, nodding. His stomach didn't feel so hot right now and if anything went wrong, it would just be a waste of money and effort. A faint, wry grin creases his lips as he remembers when they'd used to finish each other's sentences all the time. "Ten o'clock?"

"Sure." Axel didn't even know why he was agreeing.

"Okay."

"Okay."

The pause was so awkward someone could see it with their eyes. Quinn makes the first move to end the call. "See you later then."

"Yeah, okay."

"Bye."

"Bye." Axel hits the end button on the phone and just stares at it for a moment before looking back at Jess. "Ten o'clock..." He swallows hard. "I don't know if I can do this."

Right here with you

Sapphire gives a blink totally stunned as Gage snaps back at her. She hadn't though she was nagging, or sounding like she didn't want to spend time with him. In fact if that was the case than why would she be here now? Maybe she had been and didn't relize it. He was old enough to take care of himself...right?

Letting out a sigh and heading out the door Sapphire locks it behind her and heads down the steps and to the cars were Gage was waiting. Trying to give him the best smile she could Sapphire gets into the car waiting for him.

"Ok...I'll bring you home and than after work I'll come back to pick you up. We can go pick a movie, and get something for dinner."

Pulling the car out of the parking lot Sapphire starts down the road a little more quiet than normal. She really didn't know what to say right now. Finally getting to Gage's apartment Sapphire pulls in and puts the car in park.

"So, I'll....see you at five?"

"Mmmm...I'd take you over the coffee any day."

Giving another smile and another kiss to Axel's cheek Jess stands and gives a stretch before making her way down the hall. Getting to the bathroom and finding the towels along with the toothbrush Jess just smiles. It was different waking up at Axel's today. It was not something that happened but she though maybe...she liked it.

Not taking long Jess comes out of the bathroom her hair still damn from the shower. Heading into the kitchen Jess sees Axel standing at the counter. Studying him for a moment she could tell he was lost in though. The phone and paper in his hand just confirmed it.

Coming over and leaning her back against the counter Jess gives a smile before laying her hand on Axel's arm.

"Just call him. It can't hurt right? And if you want you can hang up on him. I'll be here with you too."

8/25/10

Agitated

Sleep. More sleep. Gage stops chewing, his eyes narrowing at sapphire. "Is that all you think about anymore or what?" He frowns, clearly agitated. "I mean, every time I want to do something, you tell me to go sleep instead."

Finished with his sandwich, he crumples up the paper and stands to throw it into the waste basket. "If you don't want to do anything tonight, just say so. I'm beginning to think you'd rather have time alone."

Sighing, he grabs his pop and aims for the door. "I'll be outside."

Once in the fresh air, Gage glares at the sidewalk and kicks a pebble into the parking lot, wandering to Sapphire's car. Leaning back against it, he waits, not sure if he was more upset with Sapphire or with himself for snapping at her like he had. Either way, it wasn't a feeling he liked.

Axel chuckles softly. "Me and coffee, huh? I'll have to remember that. Maybe next time I'll make a bad pot so you like me best."

Ruffling her hair, he stands up again, headed back to the kitchen. "I still got that toothbrush for ya in the bathroom and there's towels if you wanna wash up or anything."

Once in the kitchen again, he grabs the bag of bagels and pulls out the toaster to make breakfast.

A few minutes later though, his mind is far from food once again as he leans back against the counter. In one hand was the phone and in the other the number he'd been given. He should wait until later... wait until after breakfast. But why prolong it? Why not just get it out of the way?

Caught in indecision, he just stands, even when the bagels pop up out of the toaster, warm and crispy.

I got it

Katie puts the fruit down on the table for know seeing Jason was finished for eating for now. At least he had a little and it would help register his sugar. That in itself should help him a little if nothing.

J, just relax and keep relaxing. I've got the security and stuff under control. Just rest for now, you don't need to worry about it.

Giving him a smile Katie brings her hand to his face and runs her fingers over his over his cheek before leaning in and giving him a kiss on the lips.

Standing Katie brings the plates into the kitchen rinsing them off before heading out to the computers and looking at the cameras checking everything over and making sure all was well.

I know you would do the same for me too. Anyways I love ya to much not to stay with you.

Sitting across from Gage and munching on her own food Sapphire gives a small laugh that he wanted to hang out again. They had been doing a lot of that lately not that she minded at all. Sapphire's only worry for Gage was lack of sleep.

About to say something Sapphire falls quiet as Gage knocks the napkins and than bumps his head. He seemed a little more irritated than normal today. Maybe he was over tired.

"I'd love to spend another day with you, you know that. Maybe you should try getting some sleep today though? I don't want you getting sick from being over tired."

Sapphire gives a smile. She was just trying to look out for him in making sure he stayed healthy. She would feel horrable if anything ever happened to him because he didn't have enough sleep.

Stretching a little Jess slowly opens her eyes hearing Axel's voice. Looking up at him she gives a smile. It was nice to wake up to his smiling face. He was so sweet, and his eyes sparkled it was just nice.

Sitting up Jess leans up and gives Axel a little kiss on the lips before pulls away again her own eyes twinkled.

"Did you say coffee? That seems almost two good to be true, you and coffee. What a way to wake up."

Sitting all the way up on the couch Jess sits next to Axel and gives a small yawn. She wasn't sure what Axel was going to do with his whole brother thing but she'd stayed for him and had fallen asleep comfortable last night. What he deiced today Jess would be wit him all the way no matter what.

Irritated

Quinn sets his half-eaten cinnamon aside, along with his partially-drunk coffee. Swinging his legs off the hotel bed, he wanders in his bare feet over to the window, his toes scuffing in the soft carpet. Looking out the fourth story, he looks down on the street then out to the morning sun. He'd hardly slept a wink last night. Surprisingly though, he was wide awake.

Most of the sleepless hours his mind had ping-ponged back and forth between thoughts of Axel and thoughts of Anastasia. Both subjects were relentless, giving him way too much fodder for dreams which thankfully didn't come.

Sighing, he turns back around and flops down on the bed again to stare at the ceiling. No phone call. Nothing yet. Would a call even come? He glances at the clock. He had nowhere to go at the moment. All he had to do was stay here and be stuck with his thoughts.

A small grin creases his lips. At least he had a fairytale to think of.

Axel sets the coffee pot and yawns, wandering back into the living room, his bare feet padding on the cool floor. He'd already called down to work... he would not be going in today.

Easing back down on the couch to sit, he reaches to gently tuck a lock of hair behind Jess' ear. He'd slept soundly all night with her in his arms - probably more soundly than he had in a long time. "Hey, sleeping beauty," he croons. He knew that most likely she hadn't intended on spending the night, and though it was perfectly innocent, he hoped she didn't feel too uncomfortable this morning.

Running a soft finger down her cheek, he smiles warmly. "Got some coffee on," he offers quietly.

"Maybe we can like hang out for supper again or something." Gage munches on his breakfast sandwich they'd picked up from Burger King, nodding to Sapphire after she'd picked him up once he'd gotten home from work. His eyes hurt a bit and he had a headache, but otherwise he was staying quite alert.

Moving a little too quickly, his elbow hits his napkin, sending it to the kitchen floor. Sighing, he grumbles and picks it up, only to bumps his head on the table on the way back up. A curse slips out with another grumble until everything is righted again and he can continue with his sandwich, not even realizing how out of character it was for him to be so irritated with something so small.

"And... maybe a movie again?" He grins at Sapphire. Last night had been fun having her over, just the two of them like usual to cuddle and watch a good drama.

Okay.

Jason wasn't sure he believed Katie that it was everything, but he'd let it go. Rick would be honest with him when he returned.

Managing to eat a few more pieces of fruit, he started feeling a little bit better as his body responds to the sugar. Drinking a bit of water, that helps too, though he's still exhausted and felt very hot.

Thanks for sticking around, Hero.

Having eaten as much as he could for now, his hand slips down to find hers. His palm clammy though his face was warm.

Check out the security okay? Give me a few minutes and I'll be up and going again but for now, can you make sure the perimeter is good?

Tomorrow Hold?

Dropping Quinn off and sharing in the last light kiss that might be really the last so in her own mind she would hold onto it forever. Continuing to drive Anastasia glances down relizing the Elvis CD was in her stereo still. Giving a laugh and a smile She push it in letting the music play once again.

Meeting Quinn and having this whole day unfold like it had was defiantly not what Anastasia had expected when she woke up the morning. The day had been one of the best and put closely to the top.

What would tomorrow hold? After today Anastasia didn't know nor did she even want to guess. The surprises that had been around the corner today were great and to face that again tomorrow gave her something to look forward to.

Helping Jason eat the fruit she had cup up for him Katie lets her good emotions pull at Jason's just offering the warm feelings flow through him. Feeling him teasing her Katie's smile widens more as she laughs.

"I guess whoever that lucky person is, will be double lucky."

Katie's eyes twinkle a little as she helps Jason take another bit. Keeping his sugar up and the liquids in him was important.

Hearing Jason's question Katie gave a little nod. It would be normal for him to want to know if there was more, or to even wonder what was going on with his own body.

Yes, your sick J and your body doesn't like what happened to it last night more so than normal. Rick doesn't know everything yet and thats why he is running tests. He thinks it might have something to do with keeping your emotions locked up for to long of a time. He's going to stop by a little later and by than I am sure we will know more.

It make Katie worried to think about the affect this could have on Jason though she kept it looked away not letting any negative emotions go twords Jason till he was feeling better. She always got worried when he was not ok, thats just how it was because she cared. She always hated seeing him sick or in pain.

Again one day

The corner of Quinn's mouth turns up and he nods. "Lunch sounds like a good idea. Can't promise but... as long as things don't blow up in my face, I'll come."

If anything happened with Axel in the morning, there was a good chance that lunch plans would be dispelled. But if he didn't hear from his brother then Quinn had nothing better to do, and the prospect of hanging out with Anastasia some more was rather appealing.

Letting his arm slip from around her, his hand slides across her shoulders until he steps away to go around to the passenger side of the car. Tonight might be the end. Or it might not be. Maybe "the end" never really happened anyway... stories could always be picked back up again.

The ride back to town was again filled with music, singing and a bit of laughter too. Only when they approached the coffee shop where Quinn's car was does the atmosphere grow quiet again. Parked and ready to get out, Quinn glances out the window and sighs before looking back at Anastasia. For a long moment, he simply looks into her eyes.

"Thanks," he mentions quietly. "This has been a better day than I've had in a very long time." His eyes prove that he's telling the truth... it really had been way too long since he'd had genuine fun with such good company. If nothing else, he'd been reminded that there was more to living than work and being on the move.

Reaching over, he brushes her cheek with his finger before he leans in close an gives her lips a brief, oh so soft kiss. "If I can see you tomorrow, I'll come to the store about noon. And if I don't come... maybe our paths will cross again one day."

After another pause, Quinn gets out of the car, giving Anastasia a little wave before ambling over to his own car. Getting in, he starts the engine and watches as she pulls away, keeping an eye on the taillights until they disappear. Putting his own car in gear, he starts down the street, only to realize that he's left his CD in Anastasia's car. It makes him smile though. Maybe that was the only reason he'd need to stop back at the store tomorrow. And if not... it was hers to keep.

Jason had drifted off to sleep again and was no roused by Katie. Opening his eyes a little, he sees the fruit and nods. He knew he needed to eat something too - he just didn't seem to have the energy. But he had to.

Pulling himself up takes a little effort, but finally sitting up with his feet still on the couch, he accepts the little plate of fruit. "Thank you," he manages a bit hoarsely. "You'd make somebody a good wife."

Though his face is straight, his emotions are teasing, prompting Katie to share in the humor.

Taking a bite of orange, it was a little more sour than he thought but he eats it anyway.

So is that really all Rick said?

Short Story

Thinking for a moment one what Quinn said Anastasia did find it kind of him to offer just letting this end here so neither would get hurt. But looking into his eyes she could see the look that he really didn't want it to end tonight almost as much as she didn't want that either.

"Why end a fairy tale now when there is still a few days to go? There is such thing as to short of a short story."

Quinn would be leaving soon, but this feeling she had round him, this comfort it wasn't something she wanted to just toss away until she had too. There was a reason they had come together like this. If nothing more than to just know this feeling, to see even to her how God works in a wonderful way, and to give Quinn the courage to face his brother than it was well worth it. Even if it would be sad saying goodbye, Anastasia would be thankful she had met Quinn and got to share this moment with him.

"Maybe tomorrow we can grab some lunch and I could show you my old record collection. It would be nice to have someone who appreciates it take a look."

Spending what time she could with Quinn it would be the best, hoping his brother would call him and maybe seeing that happen even better. Family was important for anyone. And Anastasia would be ok in the end. God had a plan and she just had to wait.

I'll see if she can sit with you in a little bit while I call Reese in a little bit. Don't worry J I'll do all I can with her so she knows she can help.

Katie wasn't sure to this. She had done work as being a body guard before but having to help someone along the way was different. Why it felt so different this time than helping other times she wasn't sure.

Continuing to move around in the kitchen a little Katie trys her best to stay quiet so Jason could rest. Once fixing herself something and getting some fruit for Jason she comes back into the living and sits on the edge of the couch.

Hun, I need you to eat some of this. It will help your sugar go up, and give you some fluids back in your system.

If you'd rather...

Mm-hmm... rest... when don't I do as I'm told?

Jason grins a little again and lets Katie go, shifting a little to curl up with the couch pillow again. His head hurt and he felt like he had a fever. Would Rick bring him back something to take? He wonders. He also wonders if anything would do any good at all. If this was emotion-induced, there might not be anything to do but wait it out. It wasn't something that everyday medicine could fix.

Just starting to drift off again, Jason hears Destiny's voice and he tries to hear what's being said in the kitchen. He can't quite make it out, but he thought she said she didn't want to bother him. His emotions to Katie were equivalent to him rolling his eyes.

Make sure she knows she's not a bother, okay? Even if it means her helping with me or something. She needs to feel useful.

Annoyance trickles into the mixed emotions.

This was not a good time for this to happen.

Quinn looks down at Anastasia, taking in her eyes once more. Why did they have to be so alluring? It wasn't fair.

His hand comes up to brush her cheek. Her question hung in the air awaiting an answer.

"I don't know." He didn't know why he was whispering either, but he was almost afraid to speak too loudly, lest the moment be shattered.

"I'll be in town for a couple days but..." He chews on the inside of his lip for a moment, really not sure what to say or how to say it. "If you'd rather the fairytale end on this night where nothing can spoil it then... I understand." He didn't want to lead her on if he was just going to leave, and he didn't want to prolong their parting if this was it. If she wanted to see him, he would - he was in a strange town, waiting for a phone call that might never come. Having someone to be with, especially Anastasia, wasn't something he'd say no to. But he didn't want to hurt her either.

Will it?

Keeping her arm around Quinn as they walk back Anastasia leans into him a little. She wasn't cold, but the coolness from being close to the water, long with the warmth from Quinn's arms just made her all the more comfortable.

Getting to the parting lot that was little a little more than the peer it was like the fairy tale was finally coming to an end just a little more light being shown. Than soon they would be back in town with even more light would that mean the fairy tail was over? Was it over for good just a short story or would the chapters continue.

Tighting her arm again to give him a little hug Anastasia's her voice a small whisper maybe if they she talked softly they wouldn't have to end this tail yet. even though she know it didn't work like that it was worth a try.

"No we don't have too. We can let this night last forever."

Standing there again for a moment finally Anastasia gives a long sigh before looking up at Quinn. Her eyes bright and sparkling with life.

"Will this fairy tail really end once we get back into town? Or does the story continue?"

Katie just pulls on Jason's walm feelings comforting him. Not everyone needed to be worried least of all him when he should be resting.

Don't worry I've already planned on staying here, and I will look after Destiny till your feeling better. Don't you worry about it, Hero's got it under control. Rest now ok!

Giving Jason's hand a squeeze Katie gives him another push pull of warm and fuzzy feelings before slipping her hand from him. Going to the kitchen Katie roots around in the fridge looking for something. Standing and turning around she comes face to face with Destiny. Both Women jump a smile spreading on Katie's face but Destiny's remained unchanged.

"Hey Destiny, I didn't know you were up yet. Are you hungry?"

Seeing Katie Destiny was a bit surprised. She heard voices a little bit ago but couldn't make them out. Not hearing Jason's voice it made her a little worried. Finally hearing it go quiet again though she figured she would poke her head out of the room and see what was going on only to come face to face with Katie. Did this mean Jason was gone? Without telling her?

"Where is Jason? Did he leave?"

Closing the fridge door Katie leans against the counter for a moment contemplating what she would say. She didn't want to lie and she didn't want to startle Destiny either causing her more stress than she already had been under.

"He's still here just resting on the couch. He's come down with something not sure what though."

"Is he going to be ok?"

"Oh yeah, it's nothing to worry about right now. You can go see him if you want."

"No thats ok, I wont bother him while he's not feeling good. I'll...see him later. I'm just going to grab some water and pop tarts."

Still holding her smile Katie gives a nod. She'd leave Destiny be for now not wanting to force her into anything. Maybe later if Jason was feeling up to it they could all watch a movie or something.

So much pain

Jason wasn't convinced, but he nods anyway.

Maybe I got a bug at the same time or something.

That was highly doubtful, but it was worth the positive thinking. He didn't want this to be caused by the whole emotional chaos... if it was, that meant there was no cure and that just meant more pain down the road. There were days he still hated it.

Knowing that those very emotions of negativity were slipping Katie's way, he reaches out a hand to pull her a little closer to him. He might hate the bad part of their connection, but he was far from hating her or from feeling their closeness and he wanted to make sure that his hatred of the bad wasn't the only thing she felt.

I'll be right as rain here in a while. Just gotta shake it off.

His eyes drift shut again and he kisses her hand softly.

Make sure Destiny has some breakfast, okay? And ask Reese if you can stay here on guard. I'd rather have you than Gunner - he wouldn't give me any sympathy.

He grins a little, proving his humor was still in tact. There was a part of him that was in so much pain from reliving his childhood nightmare, but he was trying to overcome it so it wouldn't hurt so badly.

Quinn doesn't resist another soft kiss from Anastasia, and he returns it with gentle passion, his arms holding her closely but so tenderly.

Sighing a deep, contented sigh, he shifts to look out across the water, his arm slipping around her shoulders to hold her at his side. Leaning his head to rest on hers, his eyes roam the dark lake. "And some say a moment can last a lifetime." He pauses, enveloped in the quiet sounds around them. "Maybe it's just in one's mind where the moment is held forever."

Would he hold this moment forever? For some reason, he thought he just might.

Glancing back down the pier, he knows that their time is short. Giving Anastasia a little squeeze, he starts walking back towards the shore, his arm still around her shoulders. His walk was much slower this time though, each step lasting a little longer as if he thought maybe if he slowed down enough, they'd never reach the parking lot.

Unfortunately, reaching the start of the pier again was inevitable, as was reaching Anastasia's car again. Stopping a few feet away though, Quinn doesn't let go of her just yet. "Do we have to?" It sounded so childish - yes, they did have to go. It was a silly question. But it came out anyway.

Wrapping them

Continuing to listen to Rick Katie trys to keep her own emotions under control. She wanted want to alarm Jason or even disturb him from resting. Though she new some of them did slip through to tug on his own feelings.

"How....I mean...will...you need to find something to stop this. Maybe we will have to take the pills again or something."

Katie glances back into the living room where Jason was resting on the couch. If anything happened to him She didn't know what she would do. He was an important part of her life in more way than one and her heart belonged to only him.

"I'll keep him comfortable and call if anything changes. Just call before you come again so I can shut the security off before you get here."

Giving a slight nod to Rick Katie heads back into the other room to sit with Jason. Feeling his question though Katie let out a small inner sigh. She'd let enough emotions slip through for Jason to tell something was wrong. There was no way she could not tell him now.

Rick says your sick from last night. He took some blood samples to check it out closer. In a day or so you should be better though. Don't worry about it now though Babe. I'll take care of all I can.

Still saying so close to Quinn his arms around her Anastasia can feel the warmth and his words float on the wind so soft, so comforting. Tomorrow, what would tomorrow hold and when would Quinn be gone? They were real questions that she was sure when she finally layed in bed and it was quiet she would think more on.

But for now the comfort and warmth, the bond two people had made tonight was an amazing one indeed. A power greater than any other had draw these two hearts together.

Bringing her hand to the one side of Quinn's face Anastasia runs her finger a long his cheek just mapping his face with her soft touch.

"Maybe, for a few more minutes I do, but sadly time will continue to tick afterwords. Some say thought its in those moments when the world does stop that counts the most."

Tightening her arm a little around Quinn Anastasia gives him a half hug as she leans up to kiss his lips softly again just letting the kiss longer. The soft sound of the waves in the background seeming to add to the soft mood. The moon still shinning down on them wrapping them in the soft light.

Stop time

Anastasia's returned affection makes Quinn feel warm all over. It had been a long time since he'd felt anything close to this, and even then it had seemed very different. This was... special.

His arm still laid around her waist, his other hand still running through her silky hair. Leaning his head into hers as she withdraws from a final kiss, he rocks just a little. The original song was over, but another soothing melody was drifting from the nearby campsite, continuing the dream-like atmosphere.

"I think for the first time, being a wanderer has a downside," he muses quietly. They'd met, talked, become friends and more than friends in a matter of hours. It just wasn't supposed to happen that way. This was real life... there had to be some catch... some bizarre twist of fate that would turn it all around again and remind them that this just wasn't real. But Anastasia really was in his arms. They really had kissed. And the feelings... were they real too? Or were they just a fleeting thought that would be gone once the sun rose again? Surely a bond of any strength could not be formed in only a few hours. It just didn't happen that way. Surely the feelings were only surface, formed by mutual physical attraction. Or was it chemistry? Either way, did it matter? In a couple days, Quinn would be gone.

Apart from this moment... this scene... was a life that Quinn both loved and hated. And at this point in time, he was also in the middle of a strange chain of events surrounding this town... his brother... and this woman. There was more than bliss... more than this moment. There was more that would weigh him down once the sun rose and reality returned. There were fears that needed to be faced and a brother whom his gut told him he would have to see. And afterward? He was planning to return to the road, his destination vague.

A strange wave rolls through his stomach. There was something bigger at play here, and for one of the few times in his life, he felt very small compared to the One who was really in control. For one of the few times in his life, he felt uncertain about his own future.

With his head rested against Anastasia's, he shifts just a little to kiss her cheek then return, still swaying gently. "You don't know how to stop time, do you?"

Showing me

Hearing Quinn tell her not to say she was sorry made her feel a little better. At least she didn't have to worry about offending him and leaving on bad terms. Letting the soft smile slip onto her lips Anastasia continues to look up at Quinn just getting lost in the never ending pools of his eyes.

Feeling Quinn's hand move up her arm and than to her neck, than brushing across her lips her eyes fall shut again for a moment before opening again to continue to look at him. One might think confusion would be here, wondering why they felt like this but in Anastasia's mind there was no confusion. Maybe a wondering but there was no room for confusion in this perfect moment. This...this was part of God's plan too.

As his other arm goes around her, her eyes don't break there hold as the smile on her lips grows slightly more. Her own arm finding its way around him and resting on his back while her other hand goes up his own arm and around his neck resting comfortable to give his head support.

Feeling his lips pass over hers and his breath on her skin Anastasia can feel the tingle climb her spine. Would she wake and find this all a dream? If she did, it would be the best dream she ever had thats for sure.

Once he draws away and she hears his thank you Anastasia eye twinkle, this was something she had never though would happen least of all like this. It was something from a move, a fantasy that a child would make up...this was pretty close to perfect. Returning for another soft kiss that was filled with so much emotion Anastasia pulls away slightly leaning her for head against Quinn's.

"And thank you for showing me stuff like this does happen."

o.O

Swaying and turning slowly with Anastasia, Quinn returns her gaze, wondering what might be going through her mind. The night felt very surreal... like it was almost a dream. Surely he would wake up in the morning to realize that none of this had been real. Everything was too perfect. Meeting at the store, finding each other at the cafe, agreeing to coffee, coming to the lake... real life just didn't happen that way, at least not for him. Things were much more complicated than that. This was just too... easy.

His eyes remain on hers, soaking up their depth and the life that shone through them. They were beautiful eyes, worthy of having their image burned into his memory as they now were.

Feeling her move closer to him, his feet stop moving and he just continues to watch her. His heart beats just a little faster within his chest, wondering at the new look in her eye... wondering at her closing the gap between them.

Not moving back as she leans in towards him, his lips move to receive her kiss, though his eyes remain open in surprise as his pulse picks up even more. With her hands still in his grip as she steps back, he blinks, not having expected that one at all. They'd been having fun, sure but... a kiss? He swallows hard.

Hearing her apology, his eyes change from surprise to something else... something... softer. "Rule number one," he whispers back, "never say you're sorry for a kiss."

Letting go of one of her hands, his fingertips slide up her arm to her shoulder, up her neck and to her face. His palm cradles her cheek before his thumb runs along her jaw and chin until it brushes over her lips.

There were many words he could say... many things he could think up to tell her how beautiful she was, or how much he'd enjoyed the evening, or what a fairytale this felt like. But surrounded by this dream-like darkness, words seemed too complicated.

Testing Anastasia's trust, Quinn's other hand slips from hers and moves around her waist to her back, bringing her back close again. His eyes remain glued on hers to ensure that he wasn't scaring her or doing anything she didn't want. That hint of a smile appears on his face as he bends closer. "My turn," he whispers.

His lips brush past hers, then back again several times, his breath caressing her soft skin. Pausing then, he presses into her lips, his hand sliding back to run his fingers through her hair. Surely this really was a dream.

Drawing back just far enough to see her face, he searches her eyes again. "Thank you."

O.O Oops?

"Nah sometimes I don't think it is. Specially if you have someone to get lost with."

Giving Quinn a sidelong glance a smile forms on Anastasia's face. Studying him like she had back at both previous places. Now in the dark lite by the moon the reflection was even more alluring. Just something about his eyes seemed to call to her they sparkled and shined even if there was a small bit of pain too.

Hearing the music from a camp sight not to far away Anastasia grins knowing the song very well. It was on her favorites no matter who sang it but her Uncle would always be the best one to her.

"Mmmm....good song good song."

Shifting a little Anastasia was a little surprised when Quinn took her hands from her pockets and locked fingers with her. Not letting the surprise linger to long though She just looks back at him her eyes locking with his as the song plays softly in the background.

His eyes so deep, his hands so rough yet soft at the same time. Proof he could provide for himself, and anyone else he needed too. Moving slowly with him to the music a grin forms on Anastasia's face again. It almost felt like this really was a fairy tale, just something that didn't happen. To meet someone, spend the day with them...and already have a small patter in there heart, only to know soon they would be gone. This was just something that didn't happen.

Continuing to just keep looking into Quinn's eyes it was almost like a spell was put over her. She was not impulsive like this, nor had she ever though about even being involved with a guy before. Just something about Quinn drew her in and stuff like this didn't happen.

Keeping her eyes locked with Quinn's Anastasia slowly moves herself closer to him her eyes never leaving his. The music in the background still playing softly she leans in even closer. Her lips brushing his for a moment before her eyes fall shut and she press her lips to his more firmly letting it linger for a few moments.

Than as if realizing what she just did Anastasia takes a few steps back breaking the kiss. Looking down for a moment she could feel her cheeks turning read. Looking up at Quinn again her eyes were still sparkling like diamonds in the moon light her confidence still there but not a little worried for what she had done. Biting her lower lip as she searchs Quinn's face she manages to give a whisper.

"Sorry about that, that was totally unappropriated. I'm...not sure what came over me."

I have a rule

"Mmm." Quinn stops behind Anastasia on the short pier, gazing out across the dark water. It really was a beautiful lake. With the sun already set, he could just make out a dark shoreline on the other side, but it was quite a ways away. Scanning left and right, he saw it was a big enough body of water for some small boats, and for a moment, he recalled a fishing trip he and his family had taken when he'd been just a boy.

"I can see why you like it here," he breathes. "There's nothing like the outdoors to clear one's mind and one's soul." He pauses, still scanning the area until his eyes stop on Anastasia's face, lit by the moon. Watching her eyes, they seem to reflect the light that bounces off the rippling water.

"Getting lost here wouldn't be so bad," he agrees quietly.

Clearing his throat, a hint of a grin appears on his lips and he looks away, back out at the water again. As he gazes across the scene, a sound drifts across the air. Shifting his sights, he sees a flickering light a ways away - a campfire. The sound was the mellow notes of music and Quinn cocks his head, just able to pick up the tune and singing.

"Elvis was better." He gives Anastasia a sidelong glance. It was Willy Nelson singing Always on My Mind, the soft melody seeming to blend with the quiet lapping of the water against the rocks.

"Doesn't matter though. I have a rule about that song." Turning towards he, his hands touch hers gently, pulling them from her pockets so their palms would meet. His fingertips were calloused from playing guitar, his skin rough, proving that he had more work in his past than only a life on the stage. Moving his hands up and to the sides, their palms turn together and his fingers slide between hers as he starts to sway. "I always have to dance."

He turns slowly, his feet leading them in a gentle dance as he begins to hum along with the music, his tone so soft and mellow.

Rick sighs and folds his arms, knowing that he couldn't hide anything from Katie. She knew him too well, and besides, she was right - if he didn't tell all, she'd just worry about it.

"I'm not sure what it is, Katie," he admits. "Jason's going to be fine. For all practical purposes, this doesn't appear to be much different than many of the other times he has fallen into a flashback, or bad spell, whichever you prefer to call it. But... it's been a very long time since this happened." Come to think of it, it really had been a good long while. Jason had had some episodes dealing with his emotions, but it had been longer than Rick had realized since one had been attached to an actual flashback. "Jason's gotten good at letting off steam every now and again to keep the explosions to a minimum. And the last bad bout was chemically induced." That had been a nightmare in itself - the night Katie and Jason had receive the scars on their palms.

"However..." Rick pauses and he shakes his head. "I don't know. Jason's body just isn't recovering like it should. After a few hours sleep, he should be weary and maybe a bit sore, but he's downright incapable of anything right now - it's like a bad case of the flu. And I don't know why."

Frustration and worry shone in his eyes. "There's just something that doesn't feel right. It's like his body is just... I don't know... I'm just..." He sighs, trying to gather his thoughts. "I'm just worried that with Jason's body continually taking a beating like this, eventually he's not going to recover. He gets angry and blows things up. He gets distraught and he blows things up. Not to mention, you get hurt too. The Agency comes after you guys and who knows what happens. Then on top of it all, eventually when those extra emotions finally build up, they find their way out through the perfect route - those memories of his and a flashback is induced. But as you and I both know, it's far from any "normal" person's flashback. His emotions tear him apart inside and mess everything up from his sugar, to his blood pressure and they even induce fever."

Moving over to the sink, Rick looks around the faucet and points. "See that calcium buildup? It's not much, right? And I bet that the sink is rinsed and wiped off regularly. That's like Jason regularly letting off some steam. Okay, but like with this calcium buildup, eventually, it still does build up, even if it's wiped regularly. There are just some deposits that will build up no matter what. So... then what? You take a little lime away or some cleaner and you scrub and scrape to get it off, right? When it comes to Jason's emotions though..."

Rick draws a sidearm, cocks and points the pistol at the faucet. "Boom. Gets rid of the calcium buildup alright, but it also causes damage to the sink."

Putting his gun back, he purses his lips. "Is there an easier way? So far you know we haven't found one. It seems to be a side effect of these abilities you guys have that will never go away. It's been proven that Jason cannot allow himself to lock away his bad memories - otherwise the emotions don't have anywhere to go - we've experienced that one already. Okay, so... he lets the nightmare linger just to be available for when he gets to a point that an eruption will occur. As far as I know, usually the emotions are just waiting around for a flashback to be triggered then take advantage. No trigger, they just build up a little more. So in essence..."

Rick shrugs lamely. "...the longer Jason goes without a flashback, the more severe it will be the next time. I thought it was just a matter of a release valve and letting off steam once in a while would do it - but this time proves me wrong." Was he implying that Jason needed to induce flashbacks on purpose to regulate himself? He didn't even know. "Just like when Jason bottles everything up inside, he eventually explodes... so it's the same... but with these, it's like the calcium buildup - it's something he can't automatically release... it just has to build up then have a trigger to erupt."

Pursing his lips, he turns and glances into the living room where Jason was still quiet on the couch. Turning back to Katie, he nods. "That's all I know. That's all I can figure out. The solution? Your guess is as good as mine. I'm just... afraid that one of these times... Jason's body won't be able to handle it. My theory is that each time, it will take him longer to recover until one day.... well, I just don't know. For now though... just keep him comfortable... maybe Destiny can help, too. He'll be fine in a few days probably. I'll most likely come back to check on him later today though, just in case."

Lying on the couch with his eyes closed, Jason can hear muffled voices in the kitchen. He didn't like the tone, and he didn't like the little flux in the emotional flow, signaling that Katie was bothered by something. More so, he didn't like feeling so sick. Trigger, flashback, throw up, recover. That's basically how it had always gone before. But this time he felt awful. All he wanted to do was just not move.

Katie... what's going on?

What about his job here? He couldn't protect Destiny when he couldn't even get up off the couch. Did they need to bring someone else in? But he could just shake this off, right? Give him an hour or two and he'd be fine... right?

What did Rick say?

Peacful!

Letting Rick in and showing him where Jason was Katie stands back a little not getting in Ricks way. She always hated when Jason was hurt, or in trouble and she could do nothing about it. Even if a long time ago they had come to the conclusion she couldn't always be the hero for him it still hurt.

Once Rick was done and pulls her aside she gives a nod about getting some liquids into Jason along with some fruit for his sugar. Though there was something in Rick's eye Katie could see something different had happened and he was holding back. Katie was almost scaired to even ask and find out what the answer way.

"Rick is there anything else you need to tell me or I should know? You know the last thing to do is hide something from me because I'll just end up worrying about it."

Katie eyes search Rick's face. Looking for answers to the look behind his confidence. If Rick didn't want to tell her he wouldn't but Katie could only hope he had enough respect for her that he would.

The rest of the ride to the lake was a blast. Singing at the top of there lungs and just letting time pass made the trip seem not as far. Finally getting to the lake Anastasia waits a moment before shutting the car off letting the song come to an end.

Getting out of the car and taking a deep breath Anastasia's eyes roam around taking everything here. She loved being by the water, and at night is was even better. Just the sounds alone seemed to calm her. Locking the doors on the care and slipping the keys in her pocket she gives a smile to Quinn and starts heading for the small peer.

"I love it here and just walking. Its a great place to think and be in touch with God. Listing to all the sounds and knowing he did this all and made it so perfect."

Sticking her hands into her pockets Anastasia continues to walk leaving room for Quinn to walk along side her. Getting to the end of the peer she stops and turns looking out across the water. Little lights flashed on the horizon signal that boats where out there. Down a little ways was a light from a light house flashing now and than, and looking the other way was dotted with camp fires from people camping.

"I could get lost being out here and not mind one bit. Its so peaceful."

Ready to wander

Having just arrived to work, Rick picks up the phone in the infirmary. Hearing Katie's voice and what was happening, he wastes no time. It could be nothing, but when it came to Jason and Katie both, he was always ready.

"I'll be right there, Katie. Just hang tight."

Ending the call, Rick turns right around again and goes back out of the building, carrying with him his bag that had in it more than what would be needed for the average person.

It doesn't take him long to get to the safe house and once there and entering, he finds Jason still on the couch, lethargic and barely awake. Rick rolls up his sleeves and nods to Katie. "I'm glad you called."

Kneeling beside the couch, he takes a pen light and shines it in Jason's eyes, first giving him a routine once-over. "Hey, Hotshot... what happened, buddy?"

Jason blinks slowly, not resisting Rick's poking and prodding. "Flashback," he mumbles. "Nothing new, just... flashback."

"When?"

"Um..." Jason has a hard time remembering. "Last... last night."

"And you're still feeling bad?"

"Not... not the same just... um... tired."

"Mm-hmm..." Rick continues to check him over. "Still in a flashback?"

"No." Jason shakes his head. "Katie helped."

Rick nods slowly. After a short while, he gets up and motions for Katie to join him in the kitchen while Jason continued to rest. Rick sighs and leans back against one of the counters. "He's just completely worn out. I think he's dehydrated and his sugar's low, so I'll leave that to you - get some water in him and have him eat something - some fruit would be good. He probably won't feel like eating, but make him do it anyway."

Thinking for a moment, there was something else that was behind his gaze... something he wasn't saying. "That's all for now. I'd just leave him here for now... look after him until he's up and going again. Maybe Destiny can help too... she should probably just think he's sick though - anything else might be a bit much for her right now." He nods, still avoiding whatever it was he'd been thinking. "Call me if anything changes."

Quinn can't help laughing along with Anastasia, then smiling as he hears her singing along. Unable to help it, he joins right in, not caring if they were being incredibly silly or not. What could be better than singing along with Elvis?

The ride to the lake seemed to take no time at all and the CD was only half over. But it didn't matter... once they're parked in the lot, Quinn can just make out the lake by the light of the moon and it seemed to be quite the peaceful spot. It wasn't the biggest lake he'd seen, but it wasn't small either, and it looked like it had a pier and even a little beach.

Getting out and breathing in the night air, he sets his hands on his hips and scans the area. "Alright, you take the lead. My legs are ready to wander."

One for the money, Two for the show...

It had been a rough night and sleep did not come easy but Katie had gotten at least a little bit to funtion as normal as one could get though she still felt like a ton of bricks hit her. Getting up though and letting Jason's words register Katie was a little nervous herself but she gives a nod.

"Alright, I will call him."

Sliding off the couch Katie wonders to the kitchen for a moment and pulls out her phone dialing Rick's number. Waiting and than hearing his voice Katie looks out the back window quick making sure everything was ok still.

"Hey Rick its Kate. Can you come out to the safe house? Jason had an episode last night and this morning he's ok, but he is really out of it and tired. I'd really appreciate it if you would."

Once Quinn was in the car with her Anastaisa starts out to make the drive to the late. It would be a long one but she didn't mind. She loved driving, she loved the night time and being with Quinn brought a comfort never felt before.

Not saying much on the drive the quiet was welcomed like it had before. It was not akward or straining it was peaceful, and nice. Hearing Quinn's comment though and seeing him put a CD in out of the corner of her eye Anastaisa waits till she hears the music and a loud laugh comes from her lips that lasts a few moments. Looking at Quinn for a moment she lowers her head a little.

"Thank you...thank you very much."

Shaking her head and laughing again she found it so funny and at the same time gave that guy tonight props for at least trying. Not being able to help it Anastaisa tumps her fingers on the staring wheel with the rhythm of the music. Her voice coming out strong, and sounding halfway good. Not amazing, but good not bad either.

"Well, it's one for the money, Two for the show, Three to get ready, Now go, cat, go. But don't you step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my Blue suede shoes."

Rock 'n roll

Grinning, Quinn shakes his head and follows Anastasia out into the night air. Though he walks to his own car, he makes sure he sees which car is hers. Getting into the passenger side of his car, he rummages around until he finds what he's looking for, then locks up and joins Anastasia in her car.

"Okay." He grabs his seatbelt. "Ready to roll." He didn't even know why he was enjoying this so much. He didn't know Anastasia at all, but he'd already spent almost the entire evening with her and it wasn't over yet. What was he thinking? It just didn't feel strange.

Looking out the window as the sights go by, Quinn comments on a few things he noticed, or asked what was what. Once they're on the open road though, the stars and moon become visible and the drive was even more enjoyable.

He finally takes out his CD and slips it into the player without showing the case. Turning up the volume, he grins. "Sorry but... after hearing that guy earlier... I can't get it out of my head. I need the real thing."

No sooner had he spoken, but the old rock 'n roll music starts along with Elvis' voice.

Having Katie slide down and hold him on the couch, Jason tries to relax, but it was difficult. He'd been through this before and he always recovered. But it was always tiring... always exhausting. He'd been through worse... barely making it back to the living again, but usually that was when Katie wasn't available. He felt different this time... for some reason... but it wasn't worth bringing up now.

Sniffing, his tears slow and he nuzzles into Katie, managing to pull out some love through all the other negative emotions. She deserved a medal for her stamina and he made sure she could feel that emotion.

His fingers lock with hers and his eyes close, just wanting morning to come. And it would... but it would be after two bouts with severe nightmares, getting sick several times in the night, and then finally managing to be back on the couch with Katie when the sun rose...

The lights spills in through the living room window, spreading a warm glow over the couch. It was the first morning since Jason had been here that the scent of breakfast wasn't wafting through the air. Instead, he was still lying on the couch, even more exhausted than the evening before.

Stirring as the room is lit, Jason tries to think through the thick fog in his mind, but it takes him several minutes to recall everything. Apparently he'd finally gotten an hour or two of sleep, but it felt like he'd been awake for a month.

Trying to turn around, it seemed every muscle in his body hurt. His hand slips from Katie's and he squints in the light, his head throbbing. Something just didn't feel right. He'd never felt quite like this before after a "normal" bad spell. It was only after some freak evolving or incident that he'd felt so exhausted. He couldn't help it that worry was one of the first emotions to slip through.

Shifting around so he's facing Katie, he kisses her forehead to wake her. "Katie?" It hurt even to talk. "Call Rick... have him come... okay?" He swallows and licks his dry lips. "And just tell... tell Destiny I'm sick is all... okay?" His eyes fall shut again, his body feeling like a dead weight.

Moon Light

Leaning back on the couch Katie lets the emotions come to her as she soaks up Jason's emotions, his pain, and his energy. It had been a long time she needed to do this but for Jason she always would no matter what.

Once the emotions start to slow Katie looks down at Jason a smile forming on her face no matter how tired she felt now. Continuing to run her hand through Jason's hair Katie gives a nod.

"I won't leave. I'll stay till tomorrow."

Shifting a little on the couch Katie slids down so she was laying down behind Jason. Daping her arm over Jason and tucking it over the other side on him Katie holds him close. Giving his neck a little kiss.

"I'm here with you."

Standing up and leaving a tip on the table Anastaisa smiles and gives a nod. She was happy to spend a little more time with Quinn. He'd be leaving soon and so the new friend she had made would be gone so why not get all the time she could. It was nice being with Quinn and chatting.

"Oh yeah you can grab anything you want...thats in you car that is. I'll meet you at the car when your ready."

Anastaisa didn't know why she trusted Quinn when she has just met him but there was something about him. Her Uncle would probably pitch a fit if he found out saying she put to much trust in people, but Anastaisa just felt like it was safe around him.

"Day lights burning...well Moon light that is."

Anastaisa gives a chuckle as she gets into her car and starts it up waiting for Quinn.

CD

The corner of Quinn's mouth twitches as he sees the glint in Anastasia's eye again. "You'd take me in your car... and drive all the way to the lake?" He'd seen roadsigns - he knew it was at least a half hour drive. Anastasia was willing to take him alone in her car all the way out there and back again? "I don't know..." He cocks his head. "I might want to check your trunk for dead bodies first."

Why he wanted to say yes, he wasn't sure. I could be a creep and she was trusting him, but what about her? She could be someone he should be careful with too. But... for some reason he didn't think so. There was something different about her... the peace he'd felt wasn't his imagination. He was good at first impressions and he'd had more than that, spending almost the entire evening with her. And besides, he still didn't want to go back to the hotel.

Why not? He really couldn't think of a reason.

"Okay." Sliding from the booth, Quinn stands up and tosses his paper cup into the trash can. "As long as I can grab a CD from my car."

Even though Jason was so far away, somewhere he knew that Katie was close. With his head in his lap, he shakes, his muscles cramping and aching but he couldn't relax.

"Katie..." he mumbles, forcing the words out. "Katie..."

The images flash through his mind of Alex... the room... the torment. The emotions were the same as when he was that lost little boy, taken and beaten and starved. Everything was frightening. He was so alone. He hurt all over. He just wanted his mom again. Was she even out there? Was everything a dream? Was anyone looking for him? The grimy window was his only light... only hope... for for a little boy, the hope was dwindling. For a little boy, he wished for death, rather than the horror of hearing the lock turn in the door. Rather than trying to find scraps in the kitchen to eat and hearing Alex come home. Rather than being dragged and slapped and bashed and thrown into the room again.

Jason's heart races as he shakes, the sweat still pouring down. His fingers find her hand and their scars meet, the emotions surging from him to her along with all the pain and suffering he was experiencing all over again. It felt like a deep pit he could never escape. But Katie's voice and her gentle hand running through his hair was his lifeline.

To Jason, it felt like a lifetime had passed. In reality, it had been a full half hour. But finally his body begins to relax, his eyes slowly opening. The vice grip on Katie's hand is gradually released. Soaked with sweat and trembling, Jason was totally spent, but reality slowly, slowly comes back to him. He was in the safe house... where Destiny was... and Katie was here too...

"Katie?" His voice was raspy and whispered. His head was still in her lap and he remembers now that he'd called her to come... and she had. For him. Again.

Still shaking, tears sting his eyes and he buries his head further into her lap, a new emotion rising within him and one that made him weak and vulnerable, like the child he'd just relived. He hated it... hated it with a passion.

His fingers find hers again, but this time not out of desperation, but out of sorrow and a need for comfort. His energy was completely spent and his body weak. Drawing in a ragged breath, he tries to stop the tears that he wasn't even sure how they started. "Don't go," he begs quietly.

It's ok!

Giving a small chuckle again Quinn Anastasia thinks for a moment about a few nice places to go for a walk. There always was along the peer and at this time of night it always looked the best. The path was lite, the far that was across the way was lit up, and the quiet water that sung along with the cry of the night birds was so peaceful. Just thinking about it made Anastasia enter that state.

"If you only new how little sleep I got each night I think you'd be shocked. I'm a night owl by nature. My Uncle use to be in a band and I'd stay up all hours of the night in my room to just listen to them. I've grown up to be a night owl and just never kicked the habit."

Taking the last sip of her coffee and putting the cup down a mysterious twinkle forms in her eye. A grin starting to curl on her lips.

"If you don't mind having more company I do know I great place by the lake. I'll even drive and I promise I wont axe you up."

Getting out of her car Katie can feel Jason's emotions build anymore and soon she was hit with the mountain of emotions. Giving a muffled gasp Katie hurry's a little faster to the door and opens it before closing it again quietly behind her.

Not sure where Jason might be the rattling from the livingroom tells her all she needs to go and Katie hurry to the couch. Sliding onto it and laying a hand on Jason's arm. Touching him she can feel the emotions start to flow to her more stronger.

"I'm here J, your ok. Your safe J."

Shifting a little Katie leans back and slowly lifts Jason up to rest his head in her lap. Running her hand through his hair a soft hum comes from her lips keeping her own self calm from the pain as well.

Your ok J...I'm here and I'm not gonna leave ya.

Worst nightmare

Jason struggles to remain alert as his body begins to fight what was happening inside of him. It had been a long time, but he'd known it would come again eventually.

Feeling Katie start to draw out some of his emotions, he lets her, though it's like trying to hold back a raging river with just his hands. He had to wait... had to hang on... a little longer....

Sensing her nearing, his heart begins to race. He knew she was here, though his mind had already begun to swim in a dark haze. She was asking him something... something... he needed to reply...

Yeah... unlocked... just come...

Feeling Katie coming even closer, Jason's body curls into a tight ball, his arms wrapped around himself and his fists clenched tightly. His scarred palm begins to burn as the emotions continue their attack.

Unsure if Katie was inside yet or not, it didn't matter - Jason couldn't hold it any longer. His body begins to shake and his eyes roll back in his head, sweat pouring down his face and neck and soaking his t-shirt. And in an instant, he's back in the forbidden corners of his mind... back in the darkest crevices... back in that room that held a nightmare that would haunt him forever... that would forever feed the emotions that bound him.

Shooting pain surges through his body like an electrical shock and the images fly through his mind, one after the other, each tagged with such strong emotions that the coffee table begins to rattle. But Jason didn't know it. All he knew was that he was a child again being dragged across the floor, the carpet burning his skin as he's tossed into that room once more. And those were the emotions and images that were hurled in Katie's direction without control, forcing her to relive his worst nightmare right along with him.

Quinn laughs and nods in agreement. "I may sing in bars but I don't really care for hanging out in them. Too many idiots. I just sing, grab my pay and go."

Swallowing a swig of coffee, he realizes he's reached the bottom again and he sighs. Glancing at the clock on the wall, he also sees it's getting late. But he was far from tired - because of his occupied mind and now because of all the caffeine he'd just had.

"Well, Princess... I would feel quite unchivalrous if I kept you out any longer. Though my legs are asking me to take them for a walk. If you recommend a good spot to stretch them out, I shall leave thee in peace."
