Uncomfortable Silence

For some reason tonight, all Hope's encouragement did was irk Scott. He was so sick and tired of people telling him he was doing well, or that he'd come a long way or that things would be okay and just to give it time. It felt like that's all he heard anymore. Like he was something special to be treated with care, lest he fall apart. Maybe he would fall apart, but he wished people would just treat him like they treated everybody else.

Swallowing an icy retort, Scott dumps the broken bits into the trash and puts the broom away before moving to the coffee pot with Hope. At least she'd changed the subject.

"Yeah, he's doing well. I think he went home yesterday and will be back to work this week maybe." He pauses to pour Hope's coffee first, then his own. "Guess it depends how he feels. Though apparently Dani's been quite the nurse - he might milk this one for all it's worth so he doesn't have to come back to work yet."

Moving back to the table and sitting down, he wraps his palms around his coffee cup and stares down into the dark liquid. Tonight was going to be a rough night. He could feel it in his bones.

Finally he lifts his gaze to Hope, daring a glance at her eyes. The silence was uncomfortable but he didn't know what else to talk about.

Rosalyn was glad that Chad would let her stay. He was being such a gentleman too. It didn't bother her that he hadn't had a shirt on, and it didn't make her uncomfortable to be in here alone with him, but she appreciated his thoughtfulness and him making sure nobody else got the wrong idea about them. It just proved to her that his intentions were pure.

Shedding her jacket and kicking off her shoes, she crawls up onto the bed with Chad, tucking herself under his arm. Shifting on her side, she drapes one arm around him and sighs with content as his fingers run through her hair. "I won't promise anything either," she mumbles as her eyes fall shut. "You're 'bout the best pillow I've ever had."

Smiling, Chance lets his head rest against Destiny's, giving her a little squeeze as he closes his eyes. "Me too. I can't promise things won't be kinda crazy with me, but... if you're willing... I'd like to find out where this thing leads."

Sinking down a little further in the couch, he finds himself so very comfortable just like this. He wasn't sure what the future held. And despite everything they'd been through, he and Destiny really had not had much of a chance to get to know each other as friends - especially with him not living a lie. Even so, he could feel a deep connection. He might not know her favorite color and she might not know all his quirks, but somehow, Chance knew there was more here than just a casual relationship. And though he might not say it now, he felt his future did indeed include Destiny.

As his stomach growls, his eyes fly open and he laughs. "I guess your kisses satisfied everything but my stomach. Come to think of it, I haven't had anything to eat since yesterday morning. Can I take you out somewhere for supper?"
