Katie gives a small nod to Rick. She could see he was upset and she hadn't meant too but she did understand why he was and it was not with her. But she still felt bad like she was tattling on Jason it was for his own good though.
"Mmmm...He left but..."
Thinking for a moment Katie could feel a little jolt of Jason's emotions again but not to much. He was still close...outside.
"He's out in the parking lot now. I don't think he's doing all that well."
Looking down at her hands Katie fiddles a little. She didn't want Jason to be angry with her for coming to Rick but she really had been worried and if she hadn't said something and he'd gotten worse she would of felt horrible.
Giving another small smile Ryan shrugs a little too. She was smiling and it did feel good after everything that had been happing. Tal really did seem nice and it felt good to have someone else in the house again. Not to mention to keep Eli company when she wasn't around.
Hearing Tal yell from the living room again Ryan rolls her own eyes and gives a chuckle. She wasn't sure if he really wanted to help, or he just thought he should but either way at least he was offering. Hearing her brother telling her to go keep Tal company Ryan looks at him again raising her eyebrow for a moment. Not saying anything her look gave it away that this seemed all to convenient. Shaking her head though she leaves what she was doing.
"Why do I feel like this is a blind date or something."
Not saying anything else Ryan wondering into the living room. Standing behind the couch she doesn't look down at Tal right away for focus on the tv and the game.
"Whats the score?"
Going to say something else Ryan glaces down at Tal stopping what she was saying as she see him stretched out across the couch. Even looking down at him he looked good. Just continuing to look him over for a long moment a devilish smile forms on Ryan's lips as she moves around to the other side of the couch. Not saying anything she positions herself and sits down landing right on Tal stomach.
"Mmmm...this couch seems lumpy today. ELI...I think we need a new couch."
Ryan can't help but give Tal a sassy side long glance. She'd known he was there but it was way to funny of a move to give up.
Standing Stacy gives a nod to Mick. She new he had alot of work to do still and didn't want to keep him from that. She wanted to make sure she could get settled in with Ashlee a little before dinner herself anyways. Maybe even scope things out a little herself before it got to dark.
"Nope no more questions at this time. I will see you at dinner though and look forward to meeting everyone else. Thank you once again Mick."
Giving a nod she turns and heads out of the office. Taking in the surroundings as she exited Stacy had a good feeling about this. Maybe she would take a little look around now and than find Ashlee.

Glad
Seeing Katie, Rick sits back in his chair and abandons his work for now as she approaches. Listening intently, he purses his lips as his eyes flash with irritation - not towards Katie though.
"I wish Jason would have told me." He sighs. Jason had promised him he would. And it was getting more and more obvious that he was just being stubborn and trying to fight this thing on his own, which was stupid.
"Thanks for cluing me in, Katie. I noticed he's been avoiding me lately and I didn't think he looked well, but I let it go, thinking he'd see me if he didn't feel good. But apparently that was my mistake to trust him on that one." He shakes his head. "I don't know what to do. I need him in here to find out what his symptoms are and see if it's something halfway normal or if it's more serious than that. If I think it's connected to this trouble he's been having, then either you two will have to go back on the antidote, or he's going to have to shape up his attitude and do what I told him to do. Either way though..."
He lets that thought trail off. There was no point in saying it straight to Katie's face. She knew that it didn't look good for Jason no matter what they did, unless they could find something to combat the invisible toxin.
Rick stands up and pushes his chair back under his desk. "Is Jason in his office still? I can go talk to him so at least he won't get mad at you for coming to me."
Outside in the parking lot, Jason sits in his pickup, bent over the steering wheel. He'd made it this far but had given up on trying to drive just yet. His knee hurt so bad he knew he shouldn't be trying to drive at all, let alone his nausea and dizziness.
Trooper sticks his head up between the seats and nudges Jason's arm, giving a short whine. Jason ignores him. He just needed to let this wave pass then he'd go home and sleep this off. He'd feel better after a nap... right?
Jerking his head up, he realizes that for several seconds he'd just drifted off into that same deep, lethargic sleep. Still holding on to all of his emotional and physical discomfort, it starts to hurt and bubble beneath the surface. But he didn't want Katie to feel it... he didn't want her to suffer too. If he was going to die, she shouldn't have to feel like she was dying too. It wasn't right. It wouldn't be fair. She deserved more than that.
For the first time since Rick had told him that this might be terminal, tears surface in Jason's eyes. Not for himself... but for Katie. He hated seeing her suffer... he hated seeing her hurt or sad. She hated the antidote and how she became so quiet and unlike herself. He wanted to see the real Katie... the happy Katie. So no antidote was better. Yet without it, all he was trying to do was keep her from feeling how sick he was... and now... after today... she'd be more worried about him, unless he could do a better job of hiding it.
Resting his head on the steering wheel, he feels a desperation that he never had and never would let Katie feel. It was a desperation that was kept only between him and God. What was happening to him? Would he survive? Would he die? How long would it take? Would he suffer more than this? Would Katie be okay when he was gone?
His muddled thoughts are the closest he can come to a prayer as his emotions swirl and distort his feelings. Taking a deep breath, he sniffs as the last couple tears fall. Another nudge to his arm gets him to look up at Trooper and he reaches over to pat his head. "It's okay, buddy... I'll be okay." One way or the other, in the end, he would be okay.
Sitting up again he wipes his eyes with his shirt sleeve and goes to start the engine, but a new and stronger wave of nausea keeps him from going anywhere just yet.
Eli just grins a little at Ryan and shakes his head. "Nothing." He continues with the steaks but does look back at her again. "Naw, that's a lie. I'm just... glad you're smiling, that's all."
He shrugs and turns on the stove burner, heating up the pan. His tone becomes quieter. "Tal's a good guy. I'm glad we can give him some good company too. I don't think he gets much of that."
"You sure I can't help with anything?" Tal hollers from the living room.
Eli smiles and rolls his eyes. "Not unless you want those black crispies again!" He swings his gaze to Ryan. "Go keep him busy while I cook these things. The hungrier he gets, the more annoying he gets."
"I heard that!" Tal was stretched out on the couch, on his back with his hands behind his head, grinning. He felt comfortable here... it was nice. He didn't have many friends, and even fewer that he'd hang out with. He and Eli had known each other for quite a while now, but just recently seemed to make an effort to get together. Now that they had, they were quickly becoming more than just coworkers. Tal enjoyed it... he hoped Eli felt the same and he also hoped he wasn't intruding on Ryan's territory.
Mick nods, glad Stacy had taken the information as well as she had. He knew if he were in her position, he'd have to think on it a while, and even then, it might still be hard to know what to do exactly.
"You're welcome... and thank you, too. I appreciate your willingness to be here and help be our eyes. Even though Dylan's been in trouble, I... I'm still his father and I just don't want to see anything happen before he has a chance to get going on the right path."
Glancing at the clock, he stands slowly. "Unless you have any questions right now, I need to finish up a few things out in the barn, then around seven or so, everyone will gather in the dining hall. I'll want to make sure you know who everyone is and I'll give you a rundown on who comes and goes and who usually sticks around so you'll get an idea of what to expect."

The Talk
Watching as Dylan left the barn Ashlee cocked her head for a moment a look in her eye thinking about the look she had seen in Dylan's. It was leery, maybe a little sad. One might interpreted it as cold but as Ashlee would guess it was one because of the weight he bore. He was interesting and definitely took after his dad in the good looks. Maybe she'd get to learn more about him as the time went on.
Enjoying taking a look around the ranch and getting to meet everyone Ashlee stayed with her mom but couldn't help the excitement and that laid in her eyes. Stacy couldn't help but just smile watching her daughter having fun already and getting to know everyone.
Helping get the stuff inside Ashlee deiced to stay in there new home and opening up some of the stuff they had placing it around and making it look a little more like home. Stacy slips from the room and heads outside with Mick again following him to the office. Seeing Rosetta and giving a little bigger smile Ashlee was so pleased to meet her.
Sitting in one of the chairs across from Mick she folded her hands in her lap. Listing closely to what he had to say. Giving a nod here and there so Mick new she was listing Stacy was just quiet taking everything in. Some of what Mick said was surprising but from what she ready about the Agency themselves she wasn't surprised with most.
Once Mick was done with his whole explanation Stacy just sits in the chair for a long moment thinking and processing everything. She did trust Ashlee, and well she didn't know Dylan to know if she trusted him or not but she would definitely keep her eyes open just a little closely till she new for sure.
"First and foremost I do want to thank you very much for telling me about Dylan Mick. Knowing that before hand in a way has put my mind at ease a little bit about being here at he ranch. I can't only imagine how hard it was for you to tell me but since you did it made an effort to not hide anything. For that alone is a comfort."
Shifting a little again Stacy sits up a little more thanking for another long moment. It was nice to know this all but she still didn't know how she felt about it. For now all she could really do it just deal with it.
"As for Ashlee spending time with Dylan...it will be something I keep a little closer eye on. Thank you again."
Giving a little jump and a small gasp Katie stops for a second holding onto the counter in the kitchen. She hadn't expected that and it startled her. Feeling Jason's anger she felt bad. She hadn't meant to make him upset. She just wanted to know he was ok was all.
J...I...I'm sorry.
Not knowing what else to say or do for fear of making things worse Katie lets her emotions die down a little and lets Jason go. Standing in the breakroom Katie's hunger seemed to be gone now she was just worried.
Leaving the breakroom and going across the floor and going to the infermary. Slipping inside and looking to Rick's desk and seeing him there Katie was glad. Going over to him she stands there for a moment before finally speaking.
"Rick....I need to talk to you."
Collecting her thoughts for a moment Katie tried to process everything she wanted to say making it as simple as she could. Finally sinking down in one of the chairs and letting out a sigh Katie starts.
"I think something is wrong with J. He's been really tired and keeping things from me. Not hungry...and just something is off. He's been pretty snappy too. I don't know what it is Rick but it doesn't feel right."
Ryan can't help but laugh again as Tal and Eli go back and forth once again. It was funny to watch them interact but it was funny at the same time.
"You two sound like your married to know that?"
Shaking her head again Ryan goes back to what she was doing before looking to her brother. Seeing the look on his face Ryan can't help the small little smile. She did think Tal looked cute, and it seemed easy to flirt with him if it went past that she didn't know. But it was nice to have fun again.
"What..?"

Dylan's smile to Stacy is a weak one, his eyes still showing he was leery - unsure about all of this. Something about her didn't seem too bad though. She didn't seem arrogant or too stern. Despite Dylan sensing she was alright though, he wouldn't let his guard down... not yet.
Ashlee's extended hand surprises him and he looks down at her for a moment, almost confused. She wasn't the "little girl" he'd expected, and she seemed to be quite comfortable, for just having been here a few minutes. She was even kind of cute, now that he really looked at her.
Taking his glove off, he accepts her hand, giving it a strong shake. His face still bore little expression, but a glance to his dad makes him extend his hand to Stacy too, to be polite.
An awkward pause follows and Dylan puts his glove back on, clearing his throat. He gestures to the wheelbarrow, looking to Mick. "I, um... need to get this out... still cleaning..."
"That's fine." Mick nods. "You can get back to work."
Dylan picks up the wheelbarrow again, glancing back over his shoulder at Ashlee once before heading out of the barn.
Watching his son leave, Mick holds back the sigh that wanted to come. Would he ever see Dylan open up? He was beginning to wonder. He smiles again though, turning back to Stacy and Ashlee. "Well, that's the short tour. We can get some of your stuff unloaded now if you like and you two can settle in before supper in a few hours." He glances at Stacy directly. "Though I'd like to sit down with you privately sometime to discuss a few things." He'd rather get the necessary things over with and out of the way as soon as possible.
Things move quickly and smoothly - most people were having a good day, putting them in a good mood and open to welcoming Stacy and Ashlee to the ranch. Several men help unload their car into one of the guest houses that would now be Stacy and Ashlee's home.
It was later in the day that Mick was able to introduce Stacy to Rosetta, then meet in the main office...
"Well first off, I want to thank you for coming." Mick sat in one of the office chairs, letting Stacy sit in another. He kept the atmosphere casual, wanting to start off on the right foot. "Reese sent me your file and it looks like you're a good fit for the job." He nods with approval.
Taking a deep breath, he rethinks a few things. "I... wanted to speak to you about Dylan before any questions or concerns arose." Mick purses his lips in thought, having gone over and over in his mind what he should say. "As you know, the Agency got him in some trouble a while back, and we know that they know he's here. Haven't had any trouble, per say, but there's always that chance, so that's how this whole thing got started. I... think it's only fair that you know the kind of trouble he was in... he got into drugs, stealing, and was involved with plenty of girls as well." He knew he needn't explain that one - Stacy was smart enough to figure it out. "He went through some rehab at a nearby facility to get him off the drugs and he's been clean since then."
Another sigh, and Mick leans his elbows on his knees. It was only when he spoke of Dylan that one could see a weariness in his eye... one that said he cared but it was a daily struggle to keep trying with his son.
"Dylan's pretty bitter still. He's come a long way since I brought him here, but he's still very withdrawn and he doesn't socialize with the family much. He tolerates being here because he knows it's the safest place for him to be, and he's scared of being manipulated again. But... if he actually likes it here, he keeps that fact to himself."
A light chuckle comes out, but it really isn't because he found the circumstances funny... they were just ironic and it was all he could do not to constantly worry or become upset about Dylan's attitude.
"I guess I wanted you to know about him for two reasons. One, because you need to know about everyone here. And two..." He pauses again, wanting to say this the right way. "...because of your daughter. She seems very bright and from what I've heard, she's a good kid. I'm sure you trust her. Unfortunately... I... can't say the same yet about Dylan. I want to trust him, and I know that even though he hides it well, he is trying to make good choices and do the right thing. But..."
He shrugs lamely. "I guess if I were Ashlee's parent, I might be careful about how much time she spends with Dylan. He's had a lot of life experiences he shouldn't have and... while I don't want to think he'd take advantage of having a young girl around, I'm disappointed and even a little embarrassed to admit that I'd be careful with that situation."
Mick really was embarrassed. Even though it wasn't his fault about Dylan, he was still his father, and he was still responsible for him. He knew Dylan was trying, but the progress was so slow and Dylan talked so little that it was hard to see it sometimes, and it made Mick worry that somewhere the old Dylan was just waiting to come out again.
"I don't think Ashlee or anybody needs to be scared of Dylan," he reiterates. "But I just wanted you to be aware so that you could make the best decisions."
Dylan growls and erases what he'd just penciled into his workbook. It was too nice of a day to be cooped up inside, so he'd chosen a spot out behind the barn to sit and try to get some schoolwork done. He was running behind today, and if he didn't catch up, it would be back to being watched by Rosetta and he hated that. He'd rather be able to do his work on his own and just turn in the assignments.
Sighing, he leans his head back against the barn and stretches his legs out in the grass. Glancing down, he flicks a cricket off his jeans. Pretty soon it would be a too chilly to do his work out there. Then he'd really be cooped up. For a moment, he wonders what it would be like to be living back in a town again where there were things to do and places to go instead of seeing the same old things over and over again.
Looking back down at his workbook, he taps his pencil on the page absentmindedly. He was having a hard time concentrating today anyway. What with Stacy and Ashlee having arrived, things just felt... different. Someone new was here and they weren't just a guest that would stay a while, get help then leave. They were here to stay and live. Dylan tried to keep himself out of trouble, but it just felt like he'd have to watch his step even more carefully now, with another pair of hawk eyes around here. On the other hand, maybe Mick would lay off a bit since Stacy was there.
Then there was Ashlee. It felt a little strange to have a girl around - one younger than him, but not a little kid. Would she keep to herself? Would she spend more time in doors or out? Would she be helping her mom or staying inside and doing school? Would she stick close to her mom or venture out and be independent? Dylan wondered. He studied everyone here though, so those questions probably wouldn't exist for too long.
He sighs and tries to concentrate on his math problems again.
Jason lets the silence linger for several long moments as he battled the way he felt both physically and emotionally. On one hand, Rick had told him not to hold anything back from Katie. On the other hand, if he didn't, she'd be suffering now as well and he didn't want that. But if he didn't open up, all it was doing was serving to make him feel worse. So what was the point in trying? They'd suffer no matter what, so maybe they'd be better off just living on the antidote the rest of their lives and forgetting about these stupid abilities.
The emotions connected with that final thought slip through, and he knows Katie knew now what he was thinking. He sighs. He didn't really mean it, but he was angry with it all.
If you want to talk to Rick, go ahead.
He stands up from his desk and grabs his jacket. Pausing at his door, he takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, allowing for just a moment or two, his emotions and physical discomforts to escape. He was upset. He was worried. He was angry. He was frustrated. His head hurt, his knee hurt, and he felt like he was going to throw up.
Shutting it off again, he resumes his route into the hall, limping towards the main floor.
There. Now you know how I feel if Rick asks. I'm going home.
Ryan's comment sends Tal's eyebrows shooting up again, and only then does he realize how wrong his comment had sounded, even though he hadn't meant it that way. Instead of getting embarrassed over it though, he just grins and shakes his head.
Getting a shove in return, he straightens up, figuring their little banter was over. Ryan's next statement, though, makes him laugh outright, his eyes twinkling. "Well thank you." He looks down at himself then raises his arms to flex his biceps with a fake macho expression on his face. "I like to think I've succeeded in creating an irresistible physique."
"Oh, come on." Eli had just tried to enter the kitchen again, and now rolls his eyes. "Are you sure I invited you to stay?"
Tal laughs again and deflates his muscle pose. "Sorry. I'll behave."
"You?" Eli slides his empty beer bottle on the counter and sets about getting the steaks out. "I don't think you're the one that started all this misbehavior."
Tal grins from ear to ear and steals another glance at Ryan before he winks at her. "Oh, you're right. What was I trying to do, stealing all the credit?" He gives Eli's shoulder a pat. "It all belongs to you."
Eli throws him a smirk. "I'm not even going to dignify that with an argument."
"Good." Tal rubs his hands together. "Do I get to help cook the steak?"
"The last time you cooked something, it came out as little black crispies." Eli points to the living room. "Go... be a guest and park yourself somewhere."
Tal bites his lower lip, trying not to laugh again, and he looks to Ryan one more time before exiting the kitchen with sheepishness. Going to the living room and flopping down on the couch, he looks at the television for a moment. "No wonder you're in a bad mood," he hollers back at Eli. "Your team is losing."
"Don't remind me!" Eli smiles to himself as he starts preparing the steaks. He does glance over to his sister though, one eyebrow quirked with unvoiced question. She was being awfully flirty tonight. Maybe she was just in a silly mood. He had to admit it was good to see her playing around again though - the last couple weeks had been hard, seeing her so down. Maybe having Tal here tonight was a better idea than he'd thought.
Ashlee's extended hand surprises him and he looks down at her for a moment, almost confused. She wasn't the "little girl" he'd expected, and she seemed to be quite comfortable, for just having been here a few minutes. She was even kind of cute, now that he really looked at her.

Ok Guy
Seeing her brother turn around Ryan can't help her cheeks grow a little more. She liked the way his chest look and she wondered what it felt like...both were nice. Moving stuff around on the counter Ryan did her best not to let how embarrassed she was. She hardly new Tal and she had felt his chest what was wrong with her?
As Tal comes over and leans on the counter Ryan can feel her eyes widen on the inside though no one would be able to tell from the outside though. She still couldn't believe she had really done that. Giving Tal a sidelong glance her lips curl up at the corners. She might as well keep playing along so no one noticed she embarrassed herself to much.
"That would of been an easy clean up and alot more fun too."
Feeling the nudge to her shoulder as she looked away for a moment Ryan's head snaps back to Tal as her eyes glitter just a little bit with a held in laughter. Reaching out and giving Tal a shove back Ryan pushes off the counter and goes to the fridge grabbing a beer and opening it taking a long swig.
"Your an ok guy Tal, with a very nice chest."
Being introduced to Dylan Stacy gives him a once over just taking in who he was and what he looked like so she would now without having to hunt him down. Giving a soft smile Stacy could see the little bit of worry and maybe even embarrassment in his eyes.
"Hey Dylan. It's nice to meet you. Don't worry I promise I wont bug you to much while I am here."
Stacy hopped she wouldn't have to bother him alot though she didn't know his personalty to well so if she would have to at least she would try to keep it down to not to much but that would depend on him too.
Looking around in the barn Ashlee didn't even realize right away there was anyone else in there too. The small, the sights...seeing some of the horses it all amazed and excited her at the same time. Bringing her attachen back to where Dylan was in front of her Ashlee just looked at him for a long moment before giving a blink. If she hadn't been in front of her mom her mouth might of been hanging open a little.
"Hi!"
Was all she could manage to say as well but giving a sweet little smile she held her hand out to Dylan in a friendly handshake. Knowing he still had the gloves on it didn't bother her much. She didn't mind getting a little dirty that was just part of the fun.
As Katie walks twords the kitchen her own irritation rises a little with Jason's words. He should know better than to say stuff like that by now. She was a part of him as he was of her there was no just ignoring it.
J...your not miserable and no I wont just ignore you. If I did ignore you than what would be the point of putting you through this so I didn't have to be on the antidote?
Katie new he might get irratated more with her but she really didn't care. If he wasn't feeling well than it should be looked into not pushed to the side.
I only worry because I care about you. I'm sorry.

If I woulda known
Hearing that he really was welcome, Tal relaxes a little. He really didn't want to impose or make Ryan uncomfortable, even if Eli had already asked him to stay.
About to say thank you, he stops as Ryan nears, unsure what the "but" statement was about. Suddenly feeling her fingertips on his skin, his first reaction was to back away, but his feet were apparently glued to the floor. He blinks though and looks down into Ryan's eyes, hoping that she couldn't feel how quickly his heart was beating all of a sudden. His mouth opens to say something, but no sound comes out. As she retreats, all he can do is stare after her and stand dumbly where he was.
Eli is nosing around in the grocery sacks when he looks back over his shoulder just in time to see Ryan's hand go up Tal's shirt. He almost drops the jar of spaghetti sauce but manages to juggle and keep it in his grasp. Watching Ryan come back to the counter, his eyebrows were about as high as they could go, and he sets the jar down. "Um... I..." He thumbs towards the living room. "Think I'm gonna go finish that beer of mine." He starts to walk away, his sentence trailing off under his breath. "...and maybe start in on another one...before I cook the steaks."
Left alone in the kitchen with Ryan, Tal can feel just a little bit of heat in his cheeks. Though her back was to him, he looks at her anyway, still trying to think of something sensible to say. "I think I'll... stay now... yes... thank you."
Glancing over his shoulder, he sees Eli still isn't coming back yet and he doesn't know if he should stay in here or go sit down somewhere. But looking back at Ryan again, a crooked little grin comes to his lips.
Wandering up beside her, he leans to rest his elbows on the counter and look at the groceries she's taking out of the sacks. His shoulder gives her arm a little nudge before he cocks his head to look up at her face. "If I woulda known you preferred me shirtless, I coulda just come that way and then the beer would have been an easy cleanup."
Mick grins and shakes his head. "No time is a bad time around here, usually. We're always hopping, whether we have guests or not. Actually, this is a good day for you guys to arrive. Our last guest for a couple weeks just left so you'll be able to settle in and get to know everyone here before newcomers start to come and go."
He glances around a minute, trying to decide what would be best first. "Well..." He thinks. "I got a few minutes now, so how about I give you two just a quick tour so at least you know your way around, then I can grab a couple guys to help get your stuff into your new home."
Leading Stacy and Ashlee, he gives them a brief overview of that ranch layout so they would know where everything was - more details about boundaries and exact buildings would come later. He pointed out things he thought they'd like to know to start, and introduced them to a couple people, though most were busy and he didn't want to bother them - more introductions would come later around the dinner table when everyone was together.
Circling around back to the main barn, Mick shows them inside to just give them an idea of where a few things were so if they came out here they could find their way around. "And most of our horses are in here... you'll get to know them all too." He grins at Ashlee. "Something tells me you're going to spend a lot of your time in here."
Leading them down one of the aisles, he spots the one person he wanted Stacy to meet - the reason this whole thing started in the first place.
Dylan was busy scooping out one of the stalls when he heard unfamiliar voices. Female voices. Great. They were here, and Mick was apparently giving them a grand tour while everybody was trying to work.
He sighs as he fills up the wheelbarrow with soiled bedding. Maybe they'd go the other way. At the very least, his wheelbarrow was full, so he could slip out the side of the barn to go empty it and... take his time coming back.
Hefting up the wheelbarrow handles, he pushes it out of the stall and turns sharply. His efforts were in vain though.
"Hey, Dylan..."
He thinks about ignoring his father's call, but that would probably just get him into trouble. Sighing again, he stops, his back to the others. Setting down the wheelbarrow, he musters up the best sort of polite expression he can - though it's a pretty weak one - and turns around.
Mick approaches with Stacy and Ashlee and he gives his son a nod. "Stacy, Ashlee... this is my son, Dylan."
Dylan doesn't bother to take off his gloves as he wipes some sweat from his brow. He gives Stacy a once-over before his eyes glance down at Ashlee. His lips don't smile, though his eyes aren't angry. Perhaps his stiff demeanor only proved how uncomfortable he felt being the center of attention. "Hi."
As soon as Katie is gone, Jason puts his head back down on his desk again. Katie's question and suggestion only prove to raise a big of irritation.
I'm fine.
It was a bold-faced lie and he knew it. He was not fine. And no matter how much he tried to justify how he felt with thinking it might just be a bug or lack of sleep, he knew good and well that this was exactly what Rick had been afraid of and had warned him about.
Keeping his head down, it was hard not to let exhaustion take over again, even though he was having a conversation with Katie.
Just... get your lunch. I guess I'm not hungry.
Not even straightening, his hand crawls to his desk drawer where his fingers find his bottle of pain killers. His head hurt. His knee hurt. He just wanted relief, that's all. Finally lifting his head a little, he manages to get two pills out of the bottle, but his hand slips and the rest of the bottle goes tumbling to the floor, spilling its contents all over.
He sighs. But he doesn't bother to clean it up yet. Downing the two pills he managed to save, he puts his head back down again.
Ignore me. I want you to enjoy your lunch break, not be miserable with me.

O.o;
Ryan's eyes widen a little as the beer bottle gets clanked into Tal's teeth and without even thinking about it a laugh slips from her lips. Once she lets it go though she feels slightly bad that she hadn't made sure he was ok first.
"Oh Tal...are you ok?"
Seeing he was Ryan shakes her head a little as she Listens to her brother and Tal go back and forth for a moment. Just stands there still with the bags in her hands She wanted to act irritated for a moment to keep playing along but she just couldn't hide the small smile that spread across her lips. She always liked seeing Eli get flustered and worked up.
As one of the bags is taken from her Ryan gives a slight nod her eyes meeting Tal's before stepping along with him to go into the kitchen as well.
"Thanks."
Setting the bag down that she had and sliding the other one over Ryan starts to take the items out of it placing them on the counter. Her back to Eli and Tal for the moment. Turning around though at the mention to what kind of steak he wanted Ryan stops short as she comes face to face with the shirtless Tal and for a moment her eyes drift down to his chest till her eyes snap back up at him.
Not saying anything right away Ryan locks eyes with Tal. Seeing the look in them she thought maybe he really did want to say and that was ok with her. The more the marryer not to mention she new Eli needed to have some friends around once and a while.
"Of course you can stay. I wouldn't have invited you other wise...but..."
Giving a little grin Ryan walks over to Tal getting fairly close to him Ryan reaches out to him and lifts the shirt up a little bit exposing him skin a small amount. Putting her free hand up his shirt Ryan lets her fingers run over Tal's chest feeling the rippled and his smooth skin.
"...I think you should keep the shirt off."
Relizing what she just said and what she was doing Ryan removes her hand quickly looking up at Tal again for a moment and than backing away turning to the counter her cheeks a little red.
"Med Rare...yes...right Eli...ummm...make Tal his steak he is staying...I think...right?"
"Oh Tal...are you ok?"

Medium rare
Eli hadn't heard anyone at the door, so suddenly hearing it shut, followed by Ryan's voice, he jumps. Tal looks up quickly too, also not having had a clue Ryan was there.
Eli's eyes go wide at his sister's comment, and he stands up quickly, not about to get picked on for not having helped her. "You're welcome! I... did it on purpose, so you'd feel good about doing it all on your own."
Tal grins, but decides to stay out of that one. Seeing Ryan and being greeted, he gives her a little nod and wave. "Hi."
Hearing Ryan's next comment, Eli's eyes go even wider. "Hey now! There's no call to get mean! My poor wee stomach needs sustenance."
Tal snickers but takes another swig of beer, rather than help his friend. Unfortunately, as he does, he decides to take a step forward to offer Ryan a hand at the same moment Eli decides to take a quick route over the back of the couch. The collision is minimal, but Tal's jostled shoulder is all it takes to send the beer bottle clanking into his teeth. As it does, he opens his mouth in reaction to the pain, but all it does is serve to send his mouthful of beer all down the front of his shirt.
"Aw man!" He looks down at himself in dismay.
Eli stops short and tries to hide his laugh, but it doesn't work very well. "Um... sorry?"
Tal's eyes narrow, though the humor was obvious in his gaze. Unfortunately, there was a bit of something else showing in his eye too - embarrassment, that brought just a faint shade of crimson to his cheeks. It wouldn't have been so bad if it had just been Eli as a witness. His eyes glance over to Ryan and he manages a crooked smile. "Thanks for the invite, but I was... just on my way out." He tugs at his wet shirt. "If your brother wanted me to leave earlier though, he should have just said so."
Eli laughs. "On the contrary, I already said you should stay for supper. And you said yes, right?"
"I said maybe, and I can't stay now."
"Why not?"
"I smell like a beer keg!"
"So I'll get you another bottle and once you've had that, you won't even notice anymore."
Tal rolls his eyes. "That's really smart. Besides, you know one is my limit anyway." He shakes his head. "I should probably get going." He looks to Ryan with apology. "But first, allow me to help, since I was so rudely interrupted." Taking one of the bags from her, he heads to the kitchen to put it on the table.
"Oh, come on." Eli sidles past him, heading for the hallway and talking over his shoulder as he goes. "Don't let a little spill spoil the evening..." He reappears about twenty seconds later, tossing Tal a clean t-shirt. "There. Now quit your whining. How do you like your steak?"
Tal catches the shirt and smirks a little. Setting his bottle down, he hesitates, but then pulls his wet shirt up and over his head. "Medium rare." His eyes drift back to Ryan before he dons Eli's shirt. "But only if I'm not imposing."

Willing
Struggling with the door for a long moment trying to juggle her keys, the bags of grocery's, mail and the trash from her car Ryan finally gets the key in the door. Opening it and stepping inside Ryan kids the door shut with her foot.
Hearing the TV on in the living room but not seeing who was here with her brother Ryan calls over her shoulder not passing up the chance to pick on him.
"Thanks for getting the door. It was very nice of you since I got all the stuff we need for dinner tonight."
Turning the corner and still juggling the stuff in her hand Ryan comes into the living room. Seeing Tal she stops though not realizing he was there, but not really minding either. Giving a small little smile she nods.
"Hey Tal. Eli...I got you more beer and everything for dinner."
Turning back to Tal and moving to walk by him Ryan continues to try and carry everything. She stop again next to him Ryan looks him in the eye for a moment thinking before calling over her shoulder to Eli.
"The stuff at the store was on sale so I got extra. Maybe Tal can stay too? There is no one else around I am willing to share my food with. "

Steak
"So how's the car anyway?"
Tal quirks an eyebrow as he takes a sip of his cold beer. "It's been a week and you ask now?"
Eli grins as he sits back in the couch at the apartment. "Asking the day it's fixed means nothing - asking a week later will gain a true answer as to whether or not it was really fixed."
Tal smirks and remains standing behind the couch, keeping an eye on the football game while stretching his legs. He'd been on his knees at work for too many hours today - standing felt better than sitting. He thumps the back of Eli's head. "You actually have to ask about your sister's work?"
"Why not?" Eli shrugs. "I like hearing about yet another happy customer."
Tal laughs. "Confident. I like it. My car's great. Purrs like a kitten."
"Maybe you found a new auto shop?"
"Maybe."
"Was it the prices or the customer service you liked most?"
Tal grins and is glad Eli's back is to him. "I can definitely say.... yes."
"Yes to what?"
"Your pick."
Eli swings a look back up over his shoulder to find Tal's eyes twinkling. "Uh-huh."
Tal takes another sip of beer, not giving in to the teasing. He does look at his watch though. "I probably shouldn't stick around too long if you've got plans for supper."
Eli shrugs. "Not much planned. Scarlet's out of town, but Ryan will be home soon. I'm thinking steak. Wanna stay?"
"Um..." Tal isn't sure if he should say yes or not. "Maybe."

To be safe
Seeing the man walk twords them Stacy gives a smile. She was more laid back right now because she wasn't on duty but she still tried to be a little professional because this was there first meeting. Taking Mick's hand in her own and giving it a firm shake she glances to Ashlee and than back to Mick again.
"It's very nice to meet you Mick. The ranch is much bigger than I expected and so very nice looking. Just from looking at the outside it's easy to tell you care a great deal about this place."
Taking Mick's hand and giving it a shake Ashlee can feel her cheeks get a little red as she looks up at him and receives the wink. Looking to her mom for a moment she raises her one eyebrow wondering if her mother noticed the good looks too before quickly looking back to Mick once again.
"It's very nice to meet you Mr. Henson. It looks so exciting here I can't wait to explore."
Looking at her daughter again and smiling Stacy catches sight of the look in her eye and gives her head a little shake. Mick's good looks hadn't passed her by but thats not why she was here not to mention he had a ring on his finger anyways.
"I hope we didn't come at a bad time and interrupt anything. I wasn't sure what times you guys did everything around here, so I just hoped for the best really."
Feeling Jason's emotions on how he was not feeling well it didn't sit right with Katie. He was over tired, not hungry, and just not himself. It made her worry.
"Ok, I'll see what I can find."
Leaving the office and making sure Trooper stayed Katie made her way across the floor and into the kitchen. Still feeling the odd feelings from Jason Katie let out a small sigh she really was worried.
J...are you sure your ok? Maybe we should go see Rick just to be safe.

Greetings
Looking up at Katie, it suddenly became very hard not to let her feel how sick he felt at the moment. Surely it would pass, right? Maybe it had nothing to do with their connection or this invisible virus Rick kept talking about. Maybe he just had a bug or something.
"Um... yeah... why don't we eat lunch here? Then I can actually get my work done today that I missed while taking my cat nap."
Whatever was bothering him though, refused to leave him in peace when thinking about food. Dinner tonight with Katie sounded great... except for the dinner part. Along with a new lurch to his stomach, another pain shoots through his skull. And this time... he knew he'd had no control over it and he knew that Katie felt it too.
Dropping his gaze to his desk, he focuses on some paperwork, hoping maybe, just maybe by a slim chance, she wouldn't have noticed he felt as poorly as he did. "I think there were a couple sandwiches left in the kitchen," he mentions. "And Susanne brought cookies earlier."
"Yeah, put the rest of 'em out, then after Dylan is done with the stalls, move those mares back in here." Mick takes off his gloves as he gives directions. "I'll be back in a bit."
Heading out of the barn and towards the main office, he stops, spotting two figures he did not recognize, walking up the driveway. At first, he's curious, then as he realizes it's a woman and a girl, a small smile comes to his lips.
Leaving his work be for now, he tucks his gloves in his back pocket and aims for the newcomers instead. His expression was a pleasant one... he was glad they were here, and glad they would finally have an extra pair of eyes around here.
Approaching both of them, he stops and smiles, extending his hand. "Howdy. You must be Stacy and... Ashlee, right?" He offers his hand to the girl too, giving her a little wink. "Glad you two made it. I'm Mick Henson."

Bigger
Continuing to look down at Jason a little wave of worry hit her. It was unlike him to ever sleep this deep even when he's gone days without. Though maybe because of all his body was going through it took that rout to recover better. Katie could only guess on it but she would definitely keep an eye on it for now.
"If your not feeling up to lunch right now I can always grab something from the kitchen and we can sit here to eat. Than tonight do dinner."
Katie gives a smile. She had an odd feeling Jason really wasn't up to lunch today and as much as she would be disappointed but being here and having lunch with him would be just as good as going out somewhere as long as she was with him.
Taking the papers again and giving a nod to Tal Ryan breaks her gaze from him she looks down at the paper where he signed and just lets her finger run over the edge of the paper for a moment before she speaks again.
"It was no problem really. I was almost done anyways and another car to keep me busy was not a problem. See ya around Tal."
Looking up again when Tal starts to walk away again Ryan just watches him. Even if they hardly said anything to eachother it was strange that he was walking away and it felt like they just had one of the best conversations. What an odd feeling to have, but than again her emotions were so messed up right now maybe it was just that.
Glancing over at Ashlee Stacy couldn't help but smile seeing the excited look on her daughters face. She was happy Ashlee was excited it just seemed to make this whole thing that much easier.
"Are you really as excited as you look?"
Ashlee turns to her mother as her smile widens and her eyes twinkle dispit the tired hint in them. She was excited and she could feel the butterflys in her stomach. It was always fun going to new places and seeing new things. Ashlee enjoyed that so much and going to a ranch just seemed better.
"You really need to ask that?"
"No but I just had to make sure." Stacy can't help the grin.
"Well, yes I am very excited. I want to be there now."
And so as time always did it moved on. Scenes passed and towns went by, the day nice and warm. A few stops had been in order, to recover, eat, and use the bathroom put them behind a little bit but Stacy didn't mind. They would be there today still and thats really all that mattered.
Finally as the road seemed never ending the sun starting to move twords its setthe ranch comes into view. Drawing closer Stacy couldn't help but be just a little suprised. It was bigger than she had pictures it and with all the buildings it was almost like a small town in itself.
"Wow"
Ashlee's own eyes grow as they turn into the driveway and make there way twords what looked like the parking lot. It was amazing and seeing the horses grazing she felt like a kid all over again.
"Yeah wow is right."
Pulling up to the other few cars Stacy cuts the engine off sitting in the driveway for a long moment. She wasn't sure where everything was or even where she should go to let someone know she was there. Looking over at Ashlee she gives a little shrug.
"Alright, well lets get out and see if we can find anyone."
Getting out Stacy straightens her sunglasses a little and looks around a little bit before looking back at Ashlee and giving a smile. Maybe if they wondered enough they would find someone.
Coming along side her mom Ashlee brushes her shirt off, and pulls up her socks a little from under her boots as they had slide down. Looking around she was ready to go so excited to look and explore. But she new she had to wait till at least someone new they were there.

Sometime today
Feeling a little shake to his shoulder, it's finally enough to rouse Jason. Lifting his head a little, he looks up at Katie groggily, his eyes slightly glazed from a sleep that was too deep for the few minutes he'd been resting. Trying to shake it off though, he sits a little straighter, rubbing his hands over his face and keeping a lid on his physical discomfort. "Mm... sorry. I didn't sleep well last night. Guess I just got really tired there for a minute."
Stretching a little, he tries to move past the whole thing by ignoring the fact that he'd never fallen asleep at his desk like this before - tired or not. "We're going to lunch, right?" The thought of food alone made his stomach lurch, but he smiled anyway.
"Well?" Reese stares across the table at Alec. "Hal said you wanted to see me."
Alec holds up his cuffed wrists as he sits in the interrogation room. "These first."
"Not until I hear what you have to say."
"You really think I'm gonna try to get out of here?"
"Alec, I wouldn't put anything past you at this point."
Alec sighs and leans back in his chair. "Got your notepad ready?"
Reese taps his pad with his pencil. "What have you got for me?"
"Why are you fighting to keep me out of prison?"
"I thought we were hear to talk about your side of the story, not mine."
"I want to hear about that first. You apparently think I'm innocent. Why?"
Reese shrugs. "If the man who was shot and arrested is truly you, then you fooled the best. I just don't believe even you could pull that off."
Alec's mouth curls into a wry sort of grin. "Maybe you've met your match."
"Maybe. But let's find out. What really happened, Alec? Why did you go back to the Agency?"
"Isn't it obvious?"
"No, actually, it's not. There's still the matter of the clues you left behind. It wasn't a trap. And you're not that careless."
"How do you know?"
"You're too good for that." Reese leans his elbows on the table, staring Alec in the eye. "I will not let you go this easily. You're too important."
Alec manages another grin. "You just don't want me in prison because you're afraid I'll leak information to the wrong person and it'll get back to the Agency."
Reese sighs again. "Maybe Brown is concerned about that, but I'm not. I'm more concerned for your well-being. Now come on.... for no other reason that to simply set free the truth, get it over with and quit wasting time, talk to me."
"If I talk, will that help keep me out of prison?"
"It might." Reese cocks his head. Did he detect some motivation? "Depends on what you have to say."
Alec takes a few more moments to gather his thoughts. He'd remained silent because he didn't want to deal with all of this... that hadn't changed. But maybe he was starting to get tired of this fight. He was tired of the interrogations. Whether he liked it or not, he didn't want to go to prison. And maybe he did want to deal with this like Justin had been prompting him... even if he wouldn't admit it. "It wasn't the Agency."
Reese's eyes widen. "Excuse me?"
"It wasn't the Agency." Alec looks down at the table and traces invisible doodles with his thumbnail. "I got a call... from the Underground."
"The Underground? You mean that other organization that Chance clued us in on?"
"The one and only. They told me to get back into the Agency... but I'd have to make believe I was legit so as not to blow it. I was to infiltrate for one week, report back anything I learned, and I'd be free to go. If I didn't cooperate, they'd hurt Ryan." He thinks back to that night... the night that changed everything. "I panicked. I knew the Underground would know if I alerted the Elite, so I opted to do what they said. I made a phone call to one of the higher-ups in the Agency. Yvette was on the loose and heading my way - it was perfect timing for them to test out my loyalty."
He pauses, rethinking the chain of events. "I had less than twenty-four hours to meet Yvette and make it all look like I wanted to be there. I wanted to tell you guys somehow what had happened, but I knew the Underground might sweep my apartment to ensure no one else knew what was going on and I couldn't risk that - if they thought my cover would be blown and their deal would fall apart, then it would be my fault and they'd hurt Ryan."
Reese nods slowly. He'd had no idea. They'd all assumed it was the Agency and only the Agency - no one had thought about anyone else's involvement. "So you left the clues."
"Figured stealing Carson's car was the quickest way to get attention, and I left the clues in my apartment. I knew Carson at least would get the playing cards if he got a chance to see them." Alec sighs, wincing as it causes pain. "I hadn't been on the road with Yvette more than a few hours when we stopped and I called back in to report to the Underground and let them know I was in. They told me plans had changed. They wanted me to stick to the Agency and do whatever they wanted for six months, with no contact to them or anyone else on the outside. Then after six months when I was nicely settled in, I'd be their mole and feed them information. But I wouldn't be allowed back here. And if I tried to get out, they'd kill the people I cared about. Ryan... Misty... Dalton... Dani... even Carson."
Reese sits back in his chair and lets out a low whistle. "So that's why you didn't try to come back."
"Yeah. When I hung up the phone, I knew that I had no choice. I know you'd say now that I should have come to you, but I just couldn't justify that risk. The only option for me was to turn back into the Alec Banks the Agency had created. And I had to do a good job. I couldn't fake my way through six months... I couldn't pretend I was a part of them and nonchalantly avoid dirty deeds so my conscience would stay clear. No..." Alec shakes his head. "No, they would have known and would have put me in the torture chamber. Worse, the Underground would have found out and would have followed through with their own threats."
"So you kept going."
"When I got back into the car with Yvette, I knew the act was over. It couldn't be an act... it had to be real. So... I turned."
"On the outside."
"No... on the inside too."
"But you-"
"Accept it, Reese!" Alec raises his voice. "I don't have a conscience like you do. I don't have the loyalty to good deeds like you. Rules about not lying, cheating, stealing or killing just don't exist inside of me. I went back to Yvette. Drugs made me feel good. And I was the one that murdered."
Reese leans forward. "So you're telling me that you didn't want out then."
"I was back with the Agency for good - it was the only way. And I hoped then that my clues would be overlooked."
"That's why you were upset when Carson found you."
Alec rolls his eyes. "Idiot that he was. I never should have tried to tell anyone where I was going in the first place. I was the stupid one for thinking I could outsmart the Underground or the Agency, let alone both of them."
"Stupid or not, I can't ignore the fact that this whole thing revolves around you trying to protect the people you cared about."
"And you think that's gonna keep me out of jail? I've murdered people, Reese... no judge believes there's a good reason for that."
"I don't understand why you're not fighting to win here." Reese shakes his head. "Why didn't you just come right out and say that you were protecting people by going to the Agency?"
Alec turns away again, his jaw muscles tightening. "It just isn't that simple."
"Why not?"
"It's just not, okay?! You know the story now, so you do with it what you want. I don't care. "
"But, Alec, if you're not gonna fight for this, then what am I doing?" Reese really didn't understand. If this was all for the sake of people Alec cared about, then why was he not claiming it as a good deed? Why was he ignoring those good intentions?
"You tell me. Even if I don't go to prison, I'll still be in the custody of the Elite, and the Agency gave me more freedom than that."
"So you really did want to stay? Because it felt like freedom?"
"In the Agency I had power... freedom... authority. I forgot how felt it good and once I was back..." Alec shakes his head, his eyes seeming to go hard. "I was glad the Underground had forced me back in. I would have stayed too, had you all not interfered."
Reese simply didn't get it. But at least Alec had admitted the story - that was a good enough start. Standing up, Reese gives him one last look. "Thank you for explaining."
Left alone once more, Alec has a hard time settling his nerves.
Tal leans on the counter and shakes his head. "No apology needed. I could have left, but anything else I would have done would have been just about as fun as this." He gives her a wry grin. "I have a very exciting life."
Shifting his focus for a moment, he glances over the paper Ryan had and signs it with a fast signature. "There we go... thanks for getting me penciled in here today. I appreciate it." His eyes search Ryan's face once again, seeming to be probing for her inner thoughts, yet not overstepping his bounds.
It seems he might say something, but the door opens again and Leo walks in with the other paperwork. "Hey, Tal."
"Hey, Leo." They didn't know each other well, but they were halfway familiar with each other.
Leo rearranges some papers, tears off the copies and goes to the register, letting him know what the bill was.
As Tal is paying, he gives Ryan one last glance. "Thanks again. I'll see ya around."
Mick chuckles at BJ's request. "I think maybe we should give Dylan a little break. But maybe sometime we can have both him and Jade over, okay?"
Leaning down, he gives BJ a kiss to the forehead. "Night, Bud." He pulls up the blanket a little more, shuts off the light then heads back down the hall to rejoin Rosetta for some quiet time before bed. Though the evening had been a little stressful, it had still been a good one and any step forward was positive...
...Not a whole lot changed after that. Even though Dylan retreated a little and still preferred to be alone most of the time, he seemed a little more willing to say hi to his family, and maybe a little more willing to chat once in a while. Someone on the outside might say nothing had changed at all. But for those who watched closely, they'd be able to see that perhaps a bit of Dylan's heart was beginning to soften as he grew and learned and was welcomed into his family. Another family dinner would have to wait... but it would come, in time...
..."So she's coming when?" Sparky looks out the window as he sips his morning coffee.
Mick comes up beside him, taking a bite of his bagel. "Sometime today, according to Reese. At least that's what they planned."
"Hmm. What's her name?"
"Stacy. Her girl is Ashlee. They sound like a pretty good fit. I wasn't so sure at first, but..." Mick shrugs and finishes his bagel, following it with a swig of coffee. "I trust Reese and it does sound like she's qualified."
"And Dylan?"
Mick's eyes drift to the barn where he knew his son was working until everyone else was done with breakfast so he could eat alone again. "He's not too thrilled. But I figure once Stacy's here, he'll get used to it. Once he sees she's not gonna be his babysitter."

Everything ok
Coming out into the waiting area Ryan caught sigh of Tal. She felt a little bad it had taken longer than she expected and he had waited. Now she was done thought and she hoped if it was a new auto shop he was looking for this wouldn't hinder him from coming back here.
"Well it wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed. A blow gasket, and your catalytic converter needed to be replaced. Not much damage was done to it so it was fairly simple. I'm just going to need to you to sigh this paper, and than Leo can ring you out once he is done doing up the paper work."
Holding out the clipped with the slip of paper on it saying that he agrees to the repairs that needed to be done along with a pen Ryan study's him once again. She'd never had someone wait more than a hour for there car. It was kind of odd but she really didn't think it was a bad thing but it still made her feel worse that it took so long. Giving a small little smile so at least she didn't look like a sourpuss Ryan cocks her head just a little bit.
"Sorry it took so long and you had to wait."
Getting under the covers and waiting for Mick to come tuck him in BJ snuggled in. Once Mick entered the room the big smile returned on the small boys face. Hearing Mick's question BJ's smile gets even bigger as he nods his head.
"Ya..I liked having Dylan over and playing cards. I even got to stay up late. Can we do it tomorrow too with Dylan and Jade?"
Waiting for Mick's answer BJ gives a big yawn and rubs his eyes. It had been an hour later than he normally stayed up and he was tired but sleep was far from the little boys mind as he tried to fight it so he could hear Mick's reply.
Sitting at her desk and trying to catch up a little on her work Katie glances at the clock. It was almost time for lunch with Jason and she couldnt wait really. It had been a crazy say and she needed a break for sure.
Going back to her work only a few seconds later does she feel Troopers wet nose on her arm and his whimper that followed. Not thinking anything of it as first Katie just ignores him till he pulls on her shirt. What had gotten into him.
J, you know Reese is gonna have a fit that Trooper it out without you!
Not getting a reply Katie searched the emotions but was only met with a peace. Trying to focus a little more she trys again.
J...is everything ok?
Still getting nothing Katie stands. She couldn't feel anything wrong but something didn't seem right either and Trooper seemed to be acting strange on top of it. Giving a low whistle for Trooper to follow Katie makes her way back to Jason office entering. Seeing him laying on his desk her heart races as she goes over to him. Giving him a shake Katie sets the emotions aside for a moment and uses her own voice.
"J...wake up...are you ok?"

Never mine to gain
Leo glances over from his work station and nods to Ryan. "Yeah... sure." He wanders over to see the paperwork. "I can finish it up." His eyes travel to the door where Tal's form was no longer seen. He sure had been standing there a long time earlier though. Even Miles had commented under his breath that he wondered if Tal was watching the cars or the scenery. Leo nods again. "Go take care of your customer."
Inside, Tal had started pacing again, wandering to the window, looking at a few things on the wall, getting a cup of coffee, going to the window again, sitting, standing, pacing some more. He didn't leave though - there really was no point, if his car would be done. He knew Ryan would have told him if it would be later than today.
Hearing the door, he spins on his heel to see Ryan coming in. The corners of his mouth upturn. "She emerges at last. What's the bad news, doc?"
Letting Dalton into his office, Reese leans back in his chair and listens before letting out a long sigh. Why did Alec want those people protected? What was the connection? And why did he care? It didn't make sense.
"Well... it would be stupid, I think, to not pay heed to what he said, so I'll make sure I get eyes out there to make sure everyone is okay and stays that way. As far as his innocence or guilt... I'm not sure what to make of all that either. I haven't talked to him myself, but JT has and I don't understand any of it. It would have been so easy for Alec to say none of it was his fault, yet he didn't. But if he's not that cowardly, why did he want to die?"
Reese shrugs lamely. "Thanks, Dalton. I'll let you know if I need you again, and I'll also get someone assigned to watch your place as well. Be careful."
Finding meaning in this life,
Ain't what it's cracked up to be.
I find myself sometimes,
Wondering why I'm here.
Nothing to gain, nothing to lose,
Just sitting here by myself.
A heart of stone needs chiseled away,
Why does it have to hurt?
"Two more days, Alec, then you're coming back to TJY."
Alec gives Reese a dim look. Only one wrist was handcuffed to his bed today - his lack of outbursts had earned him that much... just like Dalton had suggested. He still felt miserable though, and Reese's news didn't make him feel any better. "Yippee."
Reese sighs. It was his second visit and he was still hoping for some better responses. "You ready to talk yet about what happened?"
Silence.
"We need to know, Alec."
"You still got people watching the others?"
"Yes - just like you said. Carson's making sure there's an eye on Misty, I got eyes on Dani and Dalton's looking out for himself, though we do have someone watching his place for a while."
"And Ryan?"
Reese sighs again. "It would help if you told me why the Agency would be after these people."
Alec glares at him. "Do you have someone watching Ryan or not?"
"We do." Reese waits for more, but nothing comes. "All you implied was that these people could be in danger... all you would do was demand they were watched. Now if you care that much, why won't you tell me why?"
"I don't care. I just want to see you guys keep busy."
Reese shakes his head and stands up from the hospital chair. "Have it your way."
I can see the sun is rising,
But it's only in a frame.
I can see a future, bright and clear,
But it's never mine to gain.
Sometimes I think,
I'm better off gone,
But chains hold me in place.
I want that sunrise,
I want what you got,
But I lost the game again.
"Welcome home." Hal opens the holding room door.
Alec trudges inside. His hands were cuffed together, but at least they'd taken the cuffs off his ankles. He looks around the small cement block room. It was the same nightmare all over again - the same walls, the same cot, the same table, the same sink and toilet... the same windowless, mirrorless, cold, dim room with a lock on the door. Turning around, he looks at Hal, his eyes lacking life.
Hal almost pities him... almost. "I'll bring you supper when it's time."
"Don't bother. I'm not hungry." Alec wanders to the cot and sits down, slouched against the wall. He holds up his wrists in question.
Hal shakes his head. "Sorry."
Fighting for the truth in life,
Ain't what it's cracked up to be.
I find myself sometimes,
Just wanting to walk away.
Nothing to gain, nothing to lose,
Wand'ring the desert plain.
A heart of steel meets sharpened tools,
Why does it have to hurt?
"Let me out of here!" Alec yells at the top of his lungs and slams his fists into the interrogation room door again. He'd been in here for hours, starting out with one grueling interrogation after the other - all of which he hadn't cooperated with. Sweat poured down the sides of his face and his body trembled, begging for just one more pill.
Blood smears on the door and he stops banging, realizing he'd just rubbed the side of his hand raw. Growling, he goes back to the table and kicks over the chair angrily. Pulling against his handcuffs with all his might, all he does is serve to cut into his arms. Giving another yell, this time it's the table that topples over with a loud crash. Picking up the chair, he swings and lets go, sending it flying into the two-way mirror, but it doesn't break.
Breathing heavily, he turns his back on the mirror to wince. Looking down, he sees blood seeping through his shirt near his shoulder.
On the other side of the mirror, Reese shakes his head and throws up his hands. "I don't know what to do." He looks at Angelica lamely. "I keep fighting Brown to keep Alec out of prison but I don't even know why. Asking you to try and keep him from being convicted is asking an impossible task when he won't even tell us what happened - he won't even defend himself and I don't know why." He rubs a tired hand over his face before pushing the intercom button by the door. "Rick... come to interrogation one. Alec's torn his stitches... again."
I can see the sun is rising,
But it's only in a frame.
I can see a future, bright and clear,
But it's never mine to gain.
Sometimes I think,
I'm better off gone,
But chains hold me in place.
I want that sunrise,
I want what you got,
But I lost the game again.
Alec sits on the floor in the corner of the interrogation room, exhausted, hungry and thirsty. But he'd refused any food or drink all day, remaining silent through several more interrogation attempts. First by Reese, then Nate, then Con. Today he'd kept completely quiet though. He felt as if he had no spirit. No throwing chairs today... no kicking tables... no trying to choke Rick as a way out. The cravings had subsided - not gone completely, but at least he was through the worst part, as far as withdrawal went. As far as everything else went though, it felt as if he were just entering the worst part. He didn't remember feeling quite this alone when he'd been brought here in the first place. He didn't remember feeling quite this miserable. And he knew that soon... soon he would be put behind bars.
Hearing the door, he looks up to meet the eyes of a man he'd seen only a few times.
"Hi, Alec. Justin Hawks... remember me?"
Does it really matter?
This life I always wanted.
Does it really matter?
What the future holds.
I wonder if it matters,
What lies inside my heart.
I wonder if it matters,
What's buried deep inside.
Alec makes another tally mark on the wall, using a paperclip to scratch away the gray paint. Counting the days, it really hadn't been all that long since he'd been back. But it felt like a lifetime and a half. A tv dinner sat uneaten on the table, cold from neglect. As his stomach growls though, it isn't that dinner that he thinks about. It's a dinner that he'd once had... a dinner that had once revealed to him that someone cared.
Lying back down on the cot, tears sting his eyes. Christmas turkey... homemade potatoes, gravy and rolls... His mouth waters, but his heart aches more.
The opening door makes him shoot up and wipe his eyes, trying to hide the emotions before looking to see who it was. Justin. He sighs. "Haven't you given up yet?"
"What? Because of a few tantrums?" Justin shakes his head. "Takes more than that to get rid of me. How're the wrists?"
Alec looks down at the sores on his wrists. "They'd be better without these handcuffs on."
"Talk and they come off. I've got Reese's word."
Alec scoffs. "His word, huh? That's never been of much value."
"Look..." Justin wanders closer and folds his arms. The last few days had been filled with nightmarish sessions that had gotten them nowhere. Slowly but surely though, Justin was seeing past the veil of hate and anger in Alec's eyes and beginning to see more, like pain and loneliness. "...There's no point in trying to tell you how the system works - you already know all that. But you might as well start cutting a few deals. I mean really... only an idiot would sit around in handcuffs day after day if they actually had the option of getting out of them."
Alec was on his feet in an instant, glaring Justin in the eye from only a few inches away. "Idiot, huh?" he hisses. "Put yourself in my shoes for a day then tell me who the idiot is."
Justin doesn't even flinch. Instead, he looks back at Alec with little interest. "If you'd ever take your shoes off, maybe I could see if they fit. Until you do though, I can't see from your perspective. And Reese can't either. He's your key, Alec... whether you like it or not, being on his good side is the only thing that might keep you from getting put behind bars."
Alec backs down and turns his back. "I don't care."
"I think you do." Justin waits a few moments, giving the air time to settle. "If you tell what really happened, you might as well stick a knife in your heart. But you've got to grin and bear the pain if you're gonna heal." He didn't know for sure that Alec's story would cause pain, but it was a hunch he was willing to bet on. "Quit being a martyr... it isn't worth it if no one benefits."
Hearing the click of the door again, Alec spins around to find himself alone once more. The tears return to his eyes. Ten minutes later though, he was punching the intercom. "Hal... tell Reese I want to see him."
I can see the sun is rising,
But it's only in a frame.
I can see a future, bright and clear,
But it's never mine to gain.
Sometimes I think,
I'm better off gone,
But chains hold me in place.
I want that sunrise,

But I lost the game again.
Jason sets his head down on his folded arms, trying to ignore the pain in his skull. Nausea, a headache for three days straight and dizziness were the rewards for being off the antidote. But he hadn't told Rick. And he hadn't let Katie feel all of it either. He just couldn't do that. It was getting worse though... today he'd come in to work, but couldn't concentrate on anything and he'd already fallen asleep here at his desk once. Thankfully he was full of enough pain killers to numb his knee that was wrapped after surgery - having to stay off of it for the next couple weeks wasn't helping things any either. He was miserable, but he hadn't told Katie. He wanted their connection... he liked being able to talk to her again... he liked it that she could feel him again and he liked it that she was smiling again. But he wasn't going to be able to take this much longer and he was fighting it the whole way.
Looking up, he notes the time. He wasn't supposed to go to lunch with Katie for another ten minutes right? He puts his head back down. He'd be there... he would...
Trooper nudges Jason's arm but receives no response. A whine doesn't lift Jason's head either and for a moment, the dog just studies him. Then turning, he goes to Jason's cracked office door and claws it open before he glances one way down the hall, then the other. He wasn't allowed to leave without his master, but today he was defying that rule.
Trotting to the main floor, he stops and looks again, avoiding the sound of Wyatt's voice. Turning the other way, he sniffs the floor and keeps on going until he'd reached Katie's cubicle. Wandering up beside her, he nudges her arm. Giving her something between a whine and a groan, he takes her shirt sleeve in his teeth and gives it a tug.

Alec's torn his stitches... again."

Fixed
Giving another smile as Mick turns and walks down the hall Rosetta just stands there for a long moment. God had blessed her with everything she wanted and she was so happy of that. It might not have been the way most people would want it to unfold but to her it was just right. She had a wonderful husband, and three wonderful kids that she considered her own.
Turning and going back to the table she clears the cups off and whips it down. Wondering into the kitchen and turning the tea pot on she prepared a cup for Mick and herself. They would be up a little bit longer just to wind down from the day.
Continuing to work Ryan goes over the care with a fine tooth comb. Not really paying much attachen to what else was going around her. Working was keeping her mind off everything else that was going on.
Checking the top part of the engine first Ryan than slides under the car checking out there as well. Tinkering here, and there Ryan finally finds the problem her silence being a little odd, but for those who new what was going on it wasn't.
The minutes pass, and one hours turns into two but finally Ryan finishes tighting the last bolt. Closing the hood and going for her rage Ryan whips her hands before getting behind the wheel and starting the car up. Letting it run than giving it some gas she waited to hear if it sputtered or hiccuped. Just hearing the motor purr she was satisfied and shut the car off again before going over to her work bench and filling more papers out.
"Hey Leo, I'm gonna tell Tal what was wrong with his car, can you ring him or for me?"
Letting out a long sigh Dalton shakes his head again as he looks down at Alec. For trying to ask mean and nasty his body language was all wrong and it made Dalton sad that he wouldn't just open up.
"I'll see you around."
Turning from the bed and letting out a long say Dalton makes his way from the room and back down to his car. Just sitting there for a long moment his own heart ached. First Scott, and now Alec...it was a hard to swallow.
Getting back to the office he makes his way to Reese office Dalton knocks before entering hearing Reese voice. He wanted to see what Dalton could get out of Alec but his first concern was following through with what he promised Alec.
"Reese, Alec told me we need to have a few people watched. Ryan, Misty, Dani, Carson, and myself. He didn't tell me why, but he said the needed protection so to have them watched. I think its pretty important we do so. Other than that..I didn't get anything else. Other than the odd feeling he's innocent, but guilty because of it."
