Save Postage

Watching Trey's reaction to the note, Pete wasn't sure what was going on, but he opts to just stand and wait a few minutes before taking off. Hearing about Wes, his eyebrows rise. "Wow, that's awesome." His surprise turns into annoyance, as does his expression. "And Jason didn't even tell me. I'm gonna have to slap him around a little when I get back to work." He rolls his eyes, but grins.

"Well, I won't keep you, Trey. We ought to get together sometime soon. Maybe a double date or something."

Realizing what Katie almost says, one of Jason's eyebrows arcs, but he doesn't comment. He knew all too well how hard it was to break a habit. It wasn't that long ago that it would have been a given for them to travel together if they wanted to go to Texas...or anywhere else, for that matter.

Letting her recover and reword her sentence, Jason then shrugs at her question. To be honest, he was surprised she could take off at all with how long she'd been away from work already, but he knew that wasn't any of his business.

"I do want to go see my mom and sister and Wes too. All depends on work though." And when Katie was going. Jason really didn't want to end up there when she was too. It would just make things more awkward than they needed to be.

"If you head down there though, let me know. I got a couple things for Mom and Kaylee and if you're going, I might as well save postage...that is, if you don't mind."

"It's an option," Kip admits. "But I don't really think I wanna do that. I'd be getting paid for nothing, basically, and I don't want to be hanging around and making them feel bad when they find a new bass player either."

Kip knew good and well that Twila could take his place on the bass, but then they were still down one instrument and their sound would change. He knew they would decide to replace him when he left - it just made sense. He couldn't stick around during that process, knowing they'd feel bad about it.

"I don't want to do that to them," he concludes quietly. "They've done so much for me already. I think it would be best just to changes paths and see where a new road takes me."

His eyes meet Karla's, his gaze so full of such a deep sadness. He was letting go of something he loved dearly, but he just couldn't see what else he should do without hurting the band even more.

Alec wrings out the mop once more and continues to clean the floor. It wasn't so long ago that he would never accepted a job like this, but it really wasn't all that bad. He didn't particularly like doing this kind of thing, but it could be worse, and at least it was putting a few dollars in his pocket. And he and Carson hadn't started any wars either, so that was another plus.

"Hey, Alec, want a coke before I clean out the machine?"

Alec glances over his shoulder to the counter. It still felt strange having Carson be civil, let alone nice. "Yeah, sure, if you don't mind me taking a break."

Carson shakes his head. "Naw. You're working fast tonight anyway. Come on." He pours himself a glass of coke too before leaning his elbows on the counter and taking a sip.

Alec joins him an sits on a bar stool before taking a swig. "Mm. Thanks."

"Mm-hmm." Carson is quiet for several moments until his eyes drift over to roam Alec's face. "How's Misty?"

"Same as she was the last time you asked me... and the time before that... and before that." Alec quirks an eyebrow at him. "Worrying doesn't fix anything, ya know."

"I know. I can't help it."

"She's fine, Carson. She and the baby are both as healthy as can be."

Carson nods slowly. "Okay." He takes another sip of pop. "What about Mac?"

Alec is rather surprised, since Carson had never asked about her before. "She's alright. I get along with her pretty well."

Carson rolls his eyes. "I never did get why she took to you like that."

Alec grins. "Me either. You talk to Justin much?"

"Yeah. He said Mac was doing a lot better and really enjoys seeing you and Misty."

"She misses you, ya know."

Carson sighs. "I never did get that either."

Alec shrugs. "Maybe that's what she and I have in common."

"What do you mean?"

"She has a very strong desire to be close to family."

Carson cocks his head. "That's... what she has in common with you?"

Alec looks down into his coke and shrugs again. He wasn't used to talking like this with his brother. "Yeah, I guess so."

Carson wonders if it's Alec's that changed, or him. Because for the first time, he sees Alec not as an enemy and not someone he simply pities... but as a brother. "Well... I'd suggest the three of us getting together but I've been pretty much banned from the family."

Alec downs another several swallows of coke before sliding off the stool. "Eh... I'm in fair standings at the moment, as long as I keep clean. Maybe I can convince them to do something... or convince Justin to convince them."

Carson grins. "Or convince Mac to convince Jason to convince Justin to convince them."

Alec blinks before returning the grin. "Right."

I was thinking...

Hearing Pete at the door Trey squints at the clock on the stand next to him. It wasn't even close to bed time but since moving there really was not much to do and sleep was better than getting himself into trouble. He's have to start looking for a job soon even if his parents were still sending him money he wanted to try making some of his own to try and stand on his feet.

Making his way to the door hearing Pete's knock and holler again Trey opens the door squinting out at the light and Pete. He or Ariel were usually always over, but it was strange for one of them to come unannounced. An email from Jason? That was odd...was there mother ok?

   "Thanks."

Taking the email quickly from Pete Trey holds it reading the words. He couldn't help the little look of shock on his face. He'd never new Wes but his mom had talked to him about him, and new it was Kaylee's dad and he had been killed in combat. But he was alive now, Kaylee would know her dad and that alone but a small smile on Trey's lips.

Looking up at Pete Trey gives a nod to him. He was thankful for getting this and that Jason would ever think to include him into the whole circle. He had been a pretty big jerk to his brother but to be far so had Jason. Shaking his head a little Trey tucks the letter into his pocket. Even if it wasn't hand written it was from his mother, the first letter he had ever been given.

"Let Jason know I said thanks Pete. This was from my mom telling me Wes was found alive and he is back home."

Hearing the knock on the cubical wall and than hearing Jason's voice Katie looks up quickly. He had been the last one she expected to see there. She had heard about Wes but not expected Jason to come and let her know. It surprised her but maybe...maybe there was a little hope there still to be friends.

"Rosetta called and told me about Wes. I am so happy that he is safe and home. I was thinking maybe we could..."

Realizing what she had said Katie stops for a second looking down at the papers on her desk. Getting her head together she looks back up at Jason and gives a little smile trying to just play it cool. She didn't want to over step the bounds.

"I was thinking of heading up there within the next week or so to visit, and welcome Wes home too. You thinking about heading up as well?"

Taking the last bite of her ice cream Karla looks across the table at Kip. She new he had been thinking about leaving the band but something about the way he said it now made her thing he really meant it. That look in his eye was so deep and full of emotion.

"What if you didn't quit but you just took a break? Maybe try helping with set up for a little while or something and just feel things out. That way you are not quieting in case you want to come back, but till you decide you can feel like are not holding them back either."

It sounded like a good idea to Karla than Kip wouldn't have to miss out or be away from the band family. She didn't know if he would go for it though. At least it was an option so Kip didn't feel like there weren't any in this situation.

"I mean, at least its an option to consider."

Email

Kip's eyes remain on his pop for several more moments until he finally looks up at Karla. Sliding his hand across the table, he curls his fingers around hers. "Thanks. That means a lot to me." Things between them had remained on a fairly even keel, and Kip was glad. Though enjoying little bits of romance now and then, they were taking things slowly, and he appreciated it that she didn't mind. There were enough other things moving quickly with him right now, and Karla was one stable factor in his life.

"This whole stupid thing was my fault," he admits quietly. "The band has a right to be disappointed in me. I just can't seem to get my act together. I'm finally working through things about how my dad's affected me, but I can't seem to hold anything else together. It's like one of those dreams where you run and run but don't ever get to your destination."

He takes a small sip of his pop, his thumb absentmindedly caressing Karla's hand. "I'm... thinking about quitting. Last time, it was 'cause I was just too scared to try. This time, maybe it's the same thing, I don't know. But I'm holding the band back and I know it."

Rosalyn smiles as they head back to the hotel. "A date sounds nice." In fact, it gave her heart an extra flutter. They'd spent a little time together at the ranch, but had yet to go on an official date. "If... I can get away again, maybe... tomorrow night?"

Stopping at the hotel parking lot, she turns to face Chad. "Thank you... for just..." She shrugs. "Being you, I guess. You mean a lot to me and I just wish things were easier."

A horn honking turns her head and she spots Clint sitting on his bike waiting. She grins a little and waves at him before looking back at Chad. "That means he doesn't want to see us kissing. I better come inside and get my helmet and we can say goodbye there."

"...it was such a shock, but such a wonderful one. God is good. Please pass this message along to Trey as well.
Love, Mom"

Jason leans back in his chair and lets out the breath he'd been holding. Wow. Wes was alive. Alive and home. Jason was happy, and even happier for his mom and Kaylee. He wished he were there to celebrate with them. But maybe a visit in the near future would suffice.

Printing the email and the picture of Cindy and Kaylee - who appeared to be in a fit of giggles - Jason hesitates. He hadn't seen hide nor hair of Trey since he'd moved out of TJY, and hadn't thought much about him. But he guessed he couldn't blame his mom. But why Trey needed to know all this, he wasn't sure. He couldn't imagine the guy caring much. But... his mom has asked for the message to be passed along, so Jason would respect that.

Finding Pete and giving him the email since he didn't know how to get in touch with Trey himself, Jason then heads back across the main floor. He stops though, before going back down the hall. Thinking a moment, he finally aims towards Katie's cubicle instead. They hadn't been required to interact very much at work lately, which, on one hand was good, and on the other hand, it hadn't helped the awkwardness much. Jason hadn't gone out of his way much to talk to her, but he figured he should at least mention this news to her in case she didn't know. He figured Rosetta had probably been in touch with her, but if not, he'd hate for Katie not to be informed.

"Knock knock." Jason leans on the wall and looks down at her, catching her eye. And for just a split second, his breath is taken away. Clearing his throat, he moves his gaze somewhere else. "I just got an email from my mom. Did you hear about Wes?"

"Yo, Trey." Pete knocks on the apartment door and waits. He was on his lunch break and on his way to see Nikki, but wanted to make sure he didn't forget to deliver the message from Jason.

"Mail call!" he hollers more loudly. When Trey does come to the door, he grins. "Hey. This is for you." He holds up the folded email. "Jason wanted me to give it to you."

In order

Getting her ice cream Karla was happy that at least he got something to drink. It made her feel like a little less of a pig for wanting something to eat herself at the hour it was. Sitting across form Kip Karla just watches him for a long while not saying anything. She wasn't sure what to say really but felt like she should say something.

"You know, no matter what you end up doing I'll stand behind you. I just though I would let you know that. With everything going on I didn't want you to think I'd let you face this alone."

Licking her ice cream again it was simple words but Karla new that would hold a deep meaning to Kip. They had both helped each other through so much she wasn't about to leave him to hang now. He'd become so much to her and an important part of her life.

Keeping his arm around Rosalyn Chad didn't mind how low or fast they went. It also didn't bother him that once they were on the main road some people stopped to look. Let them look, he had a pretty lady under his arm and he liked it that way.

Coming to a stop across from the pawn shop Rosalyn Chad looks across the street as his eyes follow her brother. It did seem odd that he was coming out of a pawn shop. What business did he have there? Chad wasn't sure but really it was non of his never mind anyways.

"Maybe he had some old stuff he need to get rid of."

Giving a shrug and continuing forward with Rosalyn back to the hotel. He didn't want there time to end yet but he new she would have to go soon. He did want to tell Clint thank you as well. He thought it was really cool of him to bring Rosalyn out here with him. Maybe if her father didn't like him it made him feel good that her brother did. It was a bit of acceptance and it did make him feel good.

"I am really glad I got to see you today. You brighten my day and it makes me feel complete, so think you. I hope I can see you again too before I go. I still need to take you out to a nice dinner. A real date is definitely in order for you."

Kid brother

Kip isn't sure what to do at this point. He wanted to stay. He wanted to go. He'd messed things up again, but how badly? He knew he should probably go out and assist Axel - not that he needed the help, but Kyle was giving him a chance to stay and make himself useful. At the same time though, Kip wasn't so sure he wanted to stick around anyway.

Finally shrugging, he gets to his feet. "Yeah, okay. I'm not much in a mood for ice cream, but maybe it would be better if I just stayed out of everybody's way tonight and pick up the pieces tomorrow."

It wasn't too long before he and Karla were sitting in a little ice cream shop. He'd decided to at least get something to drink, but his mood was still quite low as he studied the rising bubbles in his soda pop...

"What do you want me to do?" Kyle wraps up an extension cord while he tries to refrain from raising his voice. "It's not like I told him to get lost."

"No, but you could have been a little nicer. He wasn't late on purpose." Twila helps Theo pack up the drums as the band prepares to leave.

"Nicer?" Kyle straightens and throws up his hands. "Being nice hasn't taught him to take responsibility and get his butt in gear!" He sighs and runs a hand over his face, calming himself down. "I'm sorry... Kip's like a brother to me... to all of us... but we can't keep doing this."

Erik comes to help him get all the cords together. "He's doing so much better though."

"Dealing with his personal life, yes. And I'm glad. That's great. But this here... all this... it's our livelihood. And when he can't take the band seriously, it affects all of us."

Russ snaps shut the case on his guitar. "So what are you saying, Kyle?"

Kyle pushes a crate across the floor to where the equipment was being piled. "I'm saying that in two weeks, I'm getting married. And a week after that, we're scheduled on our first tour. It's not big and it's only in a couple states, but this is where the real work starts. I can't slow down - this is my life now. I'm going to have a wife to support and I can't put on the brakes because one band member isn't grown up enough to get himself out of bed on time."

Leaning on the crate, he takes a deep breath, met with only silence. Finally looking around, he finds the other band members all staring everywhere but him. "We keep each other on track," he resumes. "So if I'm wrong, someone please tell me."

"You're not wrong." Erik shrugs lamely. "I just wish there was a way we could stay on top of things and help Kip too. But I understand. I just... I don't know what to say to him."

"We all deserve extra chances." Theo fiddles with a drumstick. "I mean, we've all screwed up at one time or another. I know it seems like the band isn't a priority to Kip right now, but I say have a talk with him... let him know how disappointed we were tonight - though I think he figured that one out - and tell him we're giving him a chance to get his act together."

Kyle thinks ahead to next weekend with two more concerts before their short break around his and Alice's wedding. "And if he doesn't?"

"Then... we give him a job that doesn't require him being onstage on time."

"You mean like helping run sound or something?"

"Yeah."

Kyle looks at all the others for their input receiving several reluctant nods. "Okay. I'll talk to him." His eyes shift to Erik. "Unless you want to."

Erik shakes his head. "I want to 'cause he's been like my kid brother for years and I always end up protecting him, but... I think it should be you this time."

Listening to Chad talk, Rosalyn tries to forget about all the bad for now. It wasn't easy, but a few times, she was able to slip into blissful forgetfulness.

Back on one of the main streets, Rosalyn knows they better head back to the hotel soon. She didn't want to though. She'd prefer to spend the whole day with Chad. But maybe her dad really would cool down after seeing Wes. Maybe he really would rethink things and not give her such a hard time... maybe?

"Odd." Rosalyn stops on the sidewalk and looks across the street to the pawnshop, just in time to see Clint leave and mount up on his bike. "I wonder what he was doing there..." Watching him drive the opposite way down the street though, she sighs. "I guess we better head back to the hotel. He'll probably let me stay in town as long as I want, but I don't want to keep him all day."

Ice Cream

Staying silent as everyone talked with Kip Karla wanted to say so much. She wanted to tell him to get his butt out there and play. To not get down and finish off the set with the band. She wanted to yell at Kyle for seeing irritated with Kip and she wanted to scold Erik for now giving Kip the push he always had. But she stayed silent knowing it was not her place to do any of those things and it just hurt a little more.

Once everyone was gone again Karla lets out a long sigh and sits down next to Kip again. As the music starts to play again she really didn't feel like being here anymore and she wondered if Kip maybe felt the same.

"Hey, you want to go get ice cream or something? Not as fun listing to the music when your not up there. I'd rather be actually doing something with you."

As Rosalyn comes close to him again and burys her face into him Chad's arms automatically go around her. He loved the feeling of her being close and his arms wrapped around her. He liked knowing he could keep her safe and that she liked to be in his arms. It made him feel good, and being wanted was an even better feeling.

"You will for sure. I'm a hard kinda guy to scare off once I have my mind set on something or someone. Though no one has caught my attachen before like you have. No Dear Rosalyn this will not be the last time."

Pulling away from Rosalyn Chad lets his hand slide down to hers again. Starting to walk again he takes her around the pond, and than they walk down a path. He kept the chatting light and told her a little bit more about herself. He didn't want the time to end, and he was having way to much fun just walking and chating. That's how it was with Rosalyn and he wouldn't change it at all, simple and fun anyways it was perfect.

1/10/13

Icicles

Jared squints a little at Grace, unsure if she really understood what he'd meant, and not knowing if he agreed with her about them being anything alike at all. She was beautiful, inside and out. Her spirit was quiet, kind and gentle, like a warm summer breeze. Her eyes were windows into her very soul - a pure soul. What did they have in common? He saw nothing.

"You have interesting eyesight," he comments quietly. "'Cause all I see is an amazing woman who deserves a whole lot better than what I turned out to be."

Drawing her hand closer, he gives it a tender kiss. "You better get back to my legs before they turn into icicles."

Rosalyn grins, listening to Chad. "Sounds kinda like me and Clint... except he was the one always walking that fine line and I was the one rolling my eyes at him." She shakes her head. "I love him though. For a while there, he got off the right path and I was afraid he wouldn't come back. But he did... and he's the best brother I could ever ask for."

A lump rises in her throat as she thinks about this morning and how Clint had brought her here. She knew that he understood the risks - that their father might very well get upset with him now too. But he'd done it anyway, for her. How many more people would suffer because she chose to have a relationship with Chad?

Stepping forward, she wraps her arms around Chad's waist, and nuzzles her head into his chest. "Hold me," she whispers. "I have this terrible feeling that when you leave, I won't feel your arms around me again."

"Maybe." Kip just wasn't so sure. He was glad Karla believed in him, but he thought perhaps she was being unrealistic. He was letting the band down, and he knew it.

It wasn't long before there's a pause in music, and Kyle's voice could just be heard announcing a short break. And when the band appears backstage, Kip automatically gets to his feet. He swallows hard and forces himself to look at the others, even though his eyes wanted to drop to the floor.

"Kip!" Erik was the first to get to him. "Hey, you alright?"

"Yeah." Kip manages a small smile. "I'm okay. Stupid, but okay."

"What on earth happened?" Twila's eyes proved her worry.

"Just... an unfortunate chain of events after... I um... "

Erik's shoulders drop. "After you overslept."

"Yeah."

Kyle had hung back a little, and takes a swig from his water bottle. "Well... it was a bit hard to get started without you, Kip."

Kip's head hangs. "I know. I'm sorry, guys. My cell died, I ran out of gas... just... everything went wrong and I didn't have any way of getting a hold of you."

Theo sighs, but bites his tongue from a sarcastic remark.

There's an awkward pause until Kyle speaks again. "The night's only half over if you want to join us."

Of course Kip wanted to. With ever fiber, he wanted to get out on that stage with the others. But as he looked at them one by one, he saw disappointment. They were willing to let him finish out the concert with them but he truly had let them down. "You sound pretty good without me," he admits. "Maybe it would be better just to finish without me."

Silence. It was as if everyone wanted to respond, but no one knew who should speak first. But it was the silence that made Kip realize that his suggestion might really be the best thing.

"Maybe it would be," Kyle finally agrees. His energetic smile was not present tonight. "But it's your call. Your decision."

The tension in the air told that Kip's decision for this concert might affect much more than this. And he finally looks down at the floor. "I guess I don't wanna interrupt the groove you got going... So um... I should probably just sit this one out."

Kyle takes another sip of water. "Okay. Axel's helping run sound tonight if you want to go help him out. I gotta go make a pit stop, then we gotta get back on stage."

"Yeah..." Kip's gaze rises just to meet Erik's then fall again.

And within minutes, he was alone with Karla once more.

Incomplete

   "Mar my record.."

Grace gives a small chuckle thinking about the words and the meaning. She didn't know why she found it funny but she did in a way. She hard though anything would be marred. And even if someone did have something to say it was really non of there business and she would be the first to tell them.

"I believe I get a say in this matter too since it has to do with me and I hardly think your going to mar anything."

Still holding Jared's hand Grace wasn't sure what was going to happen with them but she was looking twords the future and only hoped that Jared would make the right desition. Not everyone got second chances she hoped he would take his and make the best of it!

"Anyways, I don't know if we are that different. Sure in some ways we are, but I think deep down...we are pretty much the same."

Chad smiles as he glances at Rosalyn for a second and than back across the water for a second. She talked about her life as thought she had accepted it and willed herself to be happy because she could be far worse off. Still though he wondered about the longing he saw in her eyes. The want for something more, more adventure, more excitement.

"It puts food on the table, and gives you a place to stay right? Even if its not exciting that accounts for something."

Turning around and leaning against the post Chad lets out a small sigh for a second. Would he be the one to show Rosalyn there was so much more to the word and not everything was with bad intention? He sure hoped so but the future seemed so cloudy he could only help that there would be God's light at his own feet in what he was doing.

"Even a caged bird needs time room to spread there wings once and a while. My mom use to tell Mark that all the time. I always was the wild child doing things  a little more daring than him. Mom told me I took after her. Mark hated it though and thought I was out of control. I could of been a lot worse though you know. I never broke the rules or anything...I just...was different than he was I guess."

Karla felt so bad for Kip. He's been really struggling with taking his place in the band again and this hadn't help at all. No matter what happened Karla would always stand behind him but it was sad to not think of him with the band anymore.

"Oh Kip, I don't think your holding them back. And to think of the band without you in it...it just seems...incomplete."

She new the other might feel the same way too. Kip was a member a part of the family. Part of the band forever and to not have him....part of the family would be missing. Karla at this point just hoped the band would convince him to stay.

1/9/13

Out of my league

Rosalyn grins a little, following Chad's gaze over the little pond in the park. "I know how to swim, and I read about plenty of fish in school, but that's where my knowledge ends. Your work does sound fun though. I can tell you love it." She shrugs. "Me... I just cook and clean. Not interested in being a counselor, don't want to be a vet, the men handle most of the horse training, and anything in town is too far away to drive back and forth."

She rolls her eyes. "Not much glamor in my end of the world, but it earns my keep I guess."

Jared nods slowly, his eyes still revealing the wheels turning in his mind. Though his hand remains with Grace's, he is silent for several strangely quiet moments until he finally responds. "We're so different." His voice is soft. "I never met a woman who I ever deemed was out of my league. But you..."

His eyes drift over to hers. "You're a whole different story. And I'm not sure I want to mar your record by letting you any closer to me."

"Maybe I do add to the music," Kip admits. "But I don't think I'm doing them any good anymore."

Straightening up, he leans back in the chair, as he locks his fingers with Karla's. His eyes remain towards the stage as his ears listen to the band. "I'm holding them back and I know it. I may be a fair musician, but they need more than that... and I'm not so sure anymore that I should even be here with them."

Fishy friends

Sitting with Kip Karla didn't mind being here with him and not out with the crowd. She didn't mind crowds but not really having a reason to be out there because Kip wasn't up there she would rather sit with him. Tapping her foot for a second she straightens at his comment. They did sound good tonight considering.

"Twila is doing good, but I still think you make them sound better. Just not the same without you up there."

Reaching over and slipping her hand into Kip's Karla give him a smile. She really did like it better when he was around. With out him everything seemed dull. He was important to her more than anyone would ever know.

Thinking for a second about Jared's question Grace new that sooner or later it might come up in conversation really. It was really part of getting to know each other. It was a subject she didn't talk about much though.

"I have before, once. Things just didn't work with us though and we both wanted something different out of life. He was ready to grow roots and I was just started my career. It was a while ago."

Looking up at Jared again she couldn't help but wonder if this would change anything with them. She hopped not but she wasn't sure what was running through his head. Anything really could happen at this point and she was still confident God had put her for a reason she only hoped that Jared would continue to let her come and be around her so she could figure that reason out.

"I don't even know what give up means. It's just not something I get use to doing."

Chad smile takes Rosalyn's hand again and continuing to walk. To him she really was important even if she didn't see it. She made his hear race and feel some many things he never had before. It was something that was important to him and he new that he couldn't let it go because he's never find it again.

"I think I am going to stay another three or four days than head back to work. It will more than likely be a month or so before I can visit you again though. It's going to be a long wait for sure I know that."

Getting to a small pond Chad stops again with Rosalyn looking out over the water. A calming look was in his eye even though it was not a big area one might be able to talk how calm he felt around water, and anything associated with it.

"I really enjoy water and anything to do with it. Call me strange or something. I guess thats why my job fits me so well though. I'd love to be able to show you what I do sometime. Maybe even introduce you to some of my fishy friends. I think you would get a kick out of it."

1/8/13

Have you ever...?

Leaning her face into Chad's hand and looking up at him, Rosalyn just sighs. He made her heart flutter. Her pulse quicken. Her mind go blank. And all at the same time. Why he was so determined to stick with her was beyond her understanding. She certainly didn't think she  was anything that special.

"You just don't know when to give up do you?" She rolls her eyes before backing up a step and taking his hand to pull him down the sidewalk again. "Come on - you're making a scene."

Walking though, did little to clear her mind. "You never did say how long you would be staying... when do you have to go back home?"

Jared's eyebrows rise slightly at Grace's statement. It didn't sound horrible to him, but he hadn't expected her to say something like that either.

Shifting his eyes back to meet hers, he sees again a look he recognized. A look that he had not planned on seeing there. A look that made him wonder now if he'd done the right thing by allowing things to happen between them. What if he messed up? What if he slipped and tried to take advantage of her like he'd done countless times with other women? Could he really treat her differently? Was he really capable of breaking his own patterns and starting fresh? It was one thing when he couldn't remember his past. But now that he did, it seemed a nearly impossible goal to reach - to be someone so opposite of what he used to be.

His thumb roams her palm again. And though his next question seemed to come out of the blue, in his mind, it was connected. "Have you ever had a man in your life?"

Easing down to sit next to Karla, Kip rests his elbows on his knees and stares at the floor. "Well, as long as there aren't any tar and feathers, I guess I'm okay then."

Listening to the music, he felt glad and sad at the same time. He could hear a bass guitar and knew without looking that Twila had taken his place. They'd also be taking a short break soon, and whether or not Karla thought the others were mad at him, Kip still was leery of facing them.

"They sound good without me," he notes softly.

How many

Letting her eyes continue to search Jared's face Grace just let the silence linger for a long moment. She wasn't sure what she thought about Jared saying he would be better off going back to his old life, nor did she really have any right to tell him anything different other than what she though.

"Well, I definitly don't think going back to your old life is a good option. You've come so far, and learned so much I think it would be kind of sad to just see you fall back into the old ways."

Grace could see how conflicted Jared really was with everything. She could only imagine how it must feel and how hard it was for him to try and find himself, or a new self. Sometimes just going back to the way you once were could just be an easier option.

"Ya know...in a way it horrible to say but I want to stop helping you get better."

Pausing for a second Grace looks down at there hands before looking back up at Jared. Her eyes held something different in them. Something that maybe portrayed a side of herself that she had found something she wasn't ready to let go of.

"...if I don't help you than I'll have to keep coming and I can keep seeing you. But if you get better...you might end up going away and I wont be able to see you anymore. I like seeing you though and spending time with you. Its just...nice."

Continuing to walk down the street with Rosalyn Chad wished things had been different. He wished her father would of taken to him better, and would of at least given him a chance. Maybe it was his own fault for handling things the way he did and maybe it wasn't, but either way he still felt bad.

"I don't know how many times I am going to have to tell you it is worth it, and you are worth it till you understand I am not going anywhere. Either way though I'll just keep telling you till you do."

Stopping again and pulling Rosalyn close to him Chad looks down into her eyes. Bringing a hand to her face he brushes the hair from her eyes as he gives a smile of his own.

"I'm not going anywhere...no matter what you are worth it and nothing or anyone is going to change my mind."

Getting Kip's kiss Karla can't help the smile that spread across her lips. She loved getting the love and affection from him and just being close to him. It mean lots to her, and knowing he felt the same back was so nice and refreshing. Kip had been there when she needed a friend and he had gone out of his way to make sure she was taken care of. It was something Karla would cherish forever and always try and repay.

"I'm just glad your ok. It would made for a pretty bad day if you had not been. I'm sorry too I didn't stop by your place before we came here like I should have as well."

Moving around Kip and sitting down where Kip had been to Karla crosses her legs for a second looking up at Kip. The band was not mad at him to much, they had been just worried and slightly irritated but it wasn't as bad as one might think.

"Nah I dont think they want to kill you. I think they are going to be happy your ok too. We were all pretty worried."

Kill me

Would she really be with him every step of the way? Jared looks over at Grace, his thumb running through her palm. And did he really want her with him every step of the way? With as many things as he had yet to face? These were the questions that raced through his mind. What was happening between them? Was it just a little playful flirting so they didn't get bored? Was it an actual idea of being more than friends, but that which would only last a little while? Or was a relationship something they both wanted?

Leaning his head back and staring at the far wall, his fingers continue to roam Grace's hand, tracing her palm, around her knuckles, thumb, then back to her palm again. "My mom asked me yesterday what I planned to do once I was back on my feet." The thought seemed rather random, and was spoken quietly. "I'm sure she wants to hear that I'll settle down in the area. But I don't know if I really fit here. I would probably have more going for me if I picked up where I left off before..."

His eyes eventually slip back over to Grace. He wanted to find out for sure what she really thought of them... together. If this was really something she wanted, or if she was just playing around. As he stared into her eyes though, he knew the answer. She had too much integrity to just play around with plans to forget the whole thing once he was walking again. And yet... despite his own desire to start a relationship... he knew that there was so much about him that could hurt her. Things he'd done. Things he still struggled with. Tendencies that he didn't know if he could control or not. And maybe he cared enough about her to not want to hurt her with any of those things. Maybe it really would be best when this was over, that he move away from here again.

He swallows hard and looks away once more without realizing his eyes and tone had given away that he was still struggling to pull himself out of his depression. "But I guess it's a while yet before I need to make that decision," he concludes lamely.

Rosalyn sighs deeply, her hands finding Chad's at her waist. "You haven't caused any trouble," she counters softly. "If anybody has, it's me. I've probably handled this whole thing the wrong way and just made it all worse than it needed to be. Maybe I've got more Henson stubbornness in me than I thought. It's gotten plenty of people in trouble through the years though."

Slipping from Chad, she resumes holding his hand to continue down the sidewalk. "I'm not convinced I'm worth all of this trouble for you," he muses. "I know you like me, but in all reality, you'd probably be better off just to forget this whole thing. It was fun while it lasted, but it's probably not worth a war."

Looking up just as Karla comes into view, Kip stands, though is taken by surprise by her hug. He'd figured she might be a bit worried, but not this much. Sighing, he slips his arms around her too and kisses the top of her head. When she pulls away though, he doesn't return her smile. He can't. Not when he felt this low.

"Yeah... yeah, I'm okay. I just, um..." He shrugs lamely. "Couldn't get it together today. Woke up late, phone died, ran out of gas... just... one thing after another." But it was still his fault for being irresponsible, and he knew it. He knew if he'd been on top of things, this would have been avoided.

Leaning down, he kisses her lips lightly. "I'm sorry I made you worry." Even more so, he was sorry for letting the entire band down. "Are the others ready to kill me?"

1/6/13

Not alone

Grace could only imagine how he must feel. She would be the same way for sure. I not be able to just get up and go. To talk a walk, or move around the house on you own when you wanted no matter the time. It was drive her about as crazy as it was Jared.

"Maybe not the old Jared, but you have got to show off the new Jared and what you have to offer. That's the one everyone is looking forward to seeing. I'm just happy I get first glance."

Giving another smile Grace reaches out and takes Jared's hand in her own. Just holding it for a long second. She new things were hard for Jared and remembering his past and what he had done was harder but she also new he's changed his way and was a different man now even if she didn't know him before hand now she did.

"You wont have to face it alone either. I'll be with you ever step of the way."

Stopping with Rosalyn to look in the window Chad steps behind her and puts his arms around her wast. As she looked in the window he was busy watching there refection. He liked how they fit together, and how his arms wrapped around her. It was almost two perfect and it just felt good.

"You haven't and never will disappoint me. I know you have your own stuff you need to take care of and I can't and wont get in the way of that."

Hearing about Rosalyn's Uncle Chad felt a little flutter inside. He's been told a little bit about him from Rosalyn and what had happened. To hear he was ok now made him feel good for her and her family.

"It's good to know your Uncle is alive. That is really great news and out of it I do hope you dad will not pressure you to much. I do feel bad for causing you trouble, but I cant let that keep me from seeing you. Walking through the fire is worth dancing in the rain."

Glancing out of the corner of  her eye and catching a glimpse of Kip Karla couldn't help the small wave of releaf as she stood up. She really had been worried about Kip and what might have happened to him. Standing and making her way quickly as he disappeared Karla turns the corner. Spotting him she goes to him quickly putting her arms over his shoulders and pulling him into a big hug burying her face into his shoulder.

"Kip...I was so worried. We called and called...are you ok?"

Pulling away a little bit Karla looks up into Kips eyes and gives him a smile. She really had been worried and was happy to know he was ok. If anything had happened she would of felt horrible and new everyone else would have too.

1/5/13

Unsure

"Well... as long as there's progress, right?" Jared looks down at his legs, withholding a sigh. He'd become a little quieter since lunch, as if something were weighing heavily on his mind.

"I guess I just wish I knew how long it would take to get back on my feet, if I'll ever get there at all. I thought I was bored when I was first released from the hospital. Now, every day, it seems to get ten times worse."

His eyes drift to the window. "But even though there's so much I want to do... I'm not sure the world wants me back."

Out on the sidewalk, Rosalyn slides her hand down Chad's arm until he finds his fingers to link with. "Mmm... I don't care where we walk. If we go a few blocks down to the right, there's an older part of town that has some old shops. I always like to look in the windows."

Soaking up the sunshine, she walks closely to Chad, falling silent for just a little while until her thoughts were gathered. "I stayed the night with Clint and Wendy," she admits. "I just... couldn't go home. Then this morning Clint kidnapped me. I wasn't sure I really wanted to come but... I couldn't disappoint him... or you again."

Stopping to look in a little antique shop, her eyes roam the quaint items through the glass. "My uncle that was missing in action - he turned up at home yesterday. I'm hoping the excitement at seeing him alive will soften up Dad a little bit, but... I don't know."

Kip's feet pound the pavement as he runs full-speed down the sidewalk. There was little point in checking his watch. He knew he was late. He also knew it was completely his fault. He hadn't filled up his car with gas yesterday like he should have. He shouldn't have told Karla just to meet him there. He should have charged his phone. He should have checked pockets in his laundry. As a result of the horrid combination, he'd woken late from a nap, he had run out of gas, he had no wallet, and his phone was dead.

Barely slowing to open the back door of the events center, his ears pick up the sound of music. Still in panic mode, he forces his pace down to a walk, making his way through several halls until he makes it to the backstage entrance and has to argue with volunteer security before they let him in.

Quietly slipping to a spot where he could see onstage, the music reverberates in his head. The band was well into their second song, and Twila was on bass.

Kip's heart sinks. He was hot, sweaty, breathing heavily and had no right to be here in this state. He had no idea if anybody had been worried about him or not, or if anybody had tried to call him. But if he had to guess, he'd say they probably had not. He wasn't exactly the early bird of the bunch, and he'd been late plenty of times. Although...he'd never missed a concert opening before. They'd set up and practiced the night before - an unusual luxury, but it's just how it had worked out this time. Today should have been a piece of cake. But he'd screwed it up. And they'd been forced to go on without him.

What he didn't know was how things had transpired back here...

"Where is he?" Kyle throws up his hands, irritated that they were still waiting on Kip. It should have been an easy gig. Hometown. Early setup. Small crowd. But here they were again, waiting on Kip. The youngest band member had been going through a lot, and they all understood and were quick to forgive. He'd seemed to have pulled out of his emotional fog and was healthier than he had been. But even so, he had not been keeping up with the band well at all. Whether it was trouble learning new songs, bouts with hyperactivity, forgetting about practices or being late to gigs, it just seemed he was always one step behind everyone else, and as such, it was starting to wear on the team.

Twila checks her phone one more time. "I left him two messages. I don't know what else to do. It's going straight to his voicemail though, which means his phone is either off or dead."

"I'd bet on it being dead." Theo rolls his eyes. "I've never seen a guy forget to charge his phone as much as him."

Erik sighs deeply and looks out into the auditorium to see more people filing in. "He was going to take a nap this afternoon..." His voice was drenched in disappointment. "I wouldn't be surprised if he overslept."

"What if something's wrong?" Russ fiddles with his drumsticks.

Kyle shakes his head. "We would have heard one way or another." He sighs and follows Erik's gaze to the growing audience. He didn't want to sound as though he didn't care - he did care very much. And he was worried. But things like this had happened too often for him to believe there was something wrong this time. More likely than not, Kip was just running late. "Twila?"

She tosses Karla a worried look before acknowledging Kyle. They'd ridden over here together and they'd even talked about stopping to check on Kip, but had decided to just meet everyone here. "Yeah..." She turns back to Kyle. "I already made sure his bass was tuned. I'll fill in the cracks as long as you take care of the spots where I was supposed to solo."

Backing away from the concert scene, Kip finds a chair backstage and slowly sinks down into it. Leaning his elbows on his knees, he hides his face in his hands. He imagined Karla sitting off to the side of the stage, watching and waiting. He knew the other band members were probably too lost in the music to be thinking about him right now. Were they more worried or irritated? He could guess it was the latter. Either way, he'd let them all down. Whether he was getting a handle on the rest of his life or not, it seemed the struggle to keep up with the band was never ending. And... once again, the thought crosses his mind that he should just walk away altogether.

Its working

Grace trys to keep the small grin at bay at Jared's comment. She didn't enjoy hurting anyone but knowing there was pain there was a good thing and she did like knowing that. It meant there was feeling coming pack and it meant she was getting deep down where she needed to and that could lead to many good things to come.

"Evil hands can be a good thing though. It means that what I am doing is starting to work a little more each day."

Continuing to work on his legs Grace eases up a little bit not pressing so hard on them. She didn't want to ware him out to much. Working on each one a little longer Grace finally starts to ice them. Sitting down on the chair next to him she was please with his progress and how well he was coming alone. Even if to him it did sleep like he was getting far he really was and Grace could see.

"Sometimes I do enjoy it by the way because it lets me how that what I am doing is working and thats a good thing."

"Of course you can leave that where while we walk. I don't mind one single bit and walking if good too as long as its with you."

Moving back into the room Chad had to get his own shoes and socks on so he'd have to move anyways to let Rosalyn in. Going to the bed and sitting down Chad throws some socks and shoes on before standing again.

Going closer to Rosalyn and looking down into her eyes. He really was happy she was here and he was going to have to thank Clint for bringing her. Spending time with her was his breaths of fresh air and he loved them so much. It was the moments he spend with her he was finding himself looking forward to the most.

"Mmm...I'm so happy your here. Where would you like to walk to my lady?"

Holding his arm out to Rosalyn so she could take hold of it Chad wait's a second before moving forward with her and heading out of the hotel and into the fresh air. Taking in a deep break he new this time he would enjoy the walk more than he had the first time.  Having Rosalyn here put a while new twist on thing.

1/4/13

Evil hands

Cindy chuckles and shakes her head. "You don't stink too badly, but if you want to give a good impression, a shower might be a good idea."

Watching him leave the room, she takes another bite of eggs and leans her head back against the wall with a contented sigh. She'd never be able to describe how good it felt to have Wes home.

"Hey, Mick?"

Mick pauses his task of grooming Remington to glance at Jim. Breakfast was over, and activities had picked up for the day. "Yeah?"

"I saw Clint and Rosalyn leave earlier. Do you know where they went?"

Mick resumes his brushstrokes. "I'm pretty sure they're running an errand in town. Clint plans to be back by this afternoon though - at least that's what he said when I asked if he'd be around to see Wes later."

"Mm."

When Mick looks up again, his brother was already gone. Sighing, he gives his horse a hearty pat on the neck. He didn't know what Jim was thinking, but he could only guess that puzzles pieces were being put together, and he'd figure out that Rosalyn was still seeing Chad.

Being greeted at the door, Rosalyn can feel her cheeks flush as she keeps her smile from spreading too widely. If nothing else, Chad was one of the most attractive men she'd ever met. "Um... how about we walk? I think better when my feet are moving. Besides, if it ever got around that I was visiting you at a hotel, I'd be in even more hot water."

Her eyes look up into Chad's, immediately getting lost in that shining gaze. "Although if I can keep this helmet here instead of lugging it around, that would be great." She'd keep the leather jacket on though. It was a warm day, but the breeze was just enough for her to want her arms covered. "Clint's off doing his thing and will be back to pick me up later."

Back on his bed with Grace working on his legs, Jared nods. "Yeah, just as bit. I mean, I've tried to be motivated enough to keep moving around even when you're not here. Of course... now I'm having shoulder surgery as a result, but hey, I tried, right?"

He rolls his eyes. "Bite off smaller chunks, I know. I guess I'm-" He comes to an abrupt halt as he winces, his hand putting the bedspread in a vice grip. "Holy crap," he breathes. "For such an angel, you have evil hands today."

Letting the pain pass, he smirks at her. "Sometimes I think you enjoy this."

Sit and Talk

Just smiling at Jared Grace wouldn't mind missing him again he was a good kisser and she had enjoyed it very much so. Seeing a sudden change in his eyes though Grace doesn't go in for another kiss but backs away a little bit as Jared does. She wondered what the look was about and what had changed so quickly but something told her that maybe it was part of Jared's past memories and not wanting to make the same mistakes.

"I guess that is true and it is kind of important for you to get on your feet so we can take that nice walk huh?"

Finishing up lunch and cleaning up a bit Grace runs a few things out to the kitchen to throw away. Stopping to talk with Lydia for a second and than heading back into Jared's room it wasn't long before she was back in the room and started on Jared's legs.

"So how have you been feeling lately? Anymore movement in your legs on your own?"

Rolling over on the bed and giving a yawn Chad blinks a little looking at the door to his room. Was that Rosalyn? Was he dreaming? Just sitting there he listens and hearing her knock again and than say it was her his heart started to race. She'd really come after all?

Quickly to the door Chad didn't even worry about his hair that was slightly unruliness, or his feel that were bare. Opening the door and seeing Rosalyn standing there he couldn't help but smile as he leaned against the door frame.

"Hey there stranger, happy you changed your mind and came to see me. Want to come in or go out somewhere to sit and talk?"

Hearing Cindy talk about Kaylee and that she new his picture it gave Wes a little comfort that even if his baby didn't know him as dad she at least new and and he could work with that as least he wouldn't be a complete strange.

"Well, at least I wont be a totally strange to her. Just means in time she will learn I am her daddy."

Looking up at Cindy and smile Wes sits up and gives her a kiss on the for head. He's worried so much on his way here about how things were, and if they would be awkard but now that he was here his fears had seemed so silly. Being home again was everything he'd remembered and his wife was still as wonderful and amazing as ever.

Knowing he couldn't stay in bed all day though Wes finally sits all the way up in the bed looking at Cindy one last time before getting up and stretching. Turning back to Cindy his eyes give the same twinkle they always did when he looked on her.

"I guess I should become human and take a show so when people deiced to give me a hug I don't stink them out. Be back in a flash."

1/3/13

Cut this out

Cindy grins at Wes, resisting the urge to be too playful, since she was trying to eat the breakfast he'd made for her. There had been moments when she'd feared how she would adjust if Wes ever did come home. How things would be different again. How she'd react. And there were still some uncertainties in the back of her mind. Things were different now. She was different. He was different. And it would take a time of adjustment, no matter how much they loved each other. But looking down into his bright eyes now, Cindy knew that despite any worries, they'd be okay. If she had any trouble adjusting, she knew he'd be patient with her and they would make it together just like they had before.

She hadn't thought much about Kaylee's reaction though, so Wes' question makes her pause in thought. "I... really don't know." She wished she could say yes, and reassure him that his daughter would remember him. But she was so little and had grown up so much since he'd left. She had attached herself to several other men around the ranch, particularly Sparky and Eric.

"She knows your picture and knows the face is named 'Daddy.' I would imagine she'd at least recognize you from that." Cindy reaches over and runs her hand down the side of Wes' face. "It might take her some getting used to again, but I know she'll adore you just like she did before you left."

Rosalyn could tell just by Chad's few words that he was disappointed. And it made her feel all the more worse. But what else could she do? If he came today, it would just be a nightmare all over again, and she was still exhausted from yesterday.

Lost in her own thoughts, she rises from the swing and aims for the dining hall door. Maybe if she would just concentrate on work, she'd feel less depressed.

"Think fast."

On her way to the dining hall, Rosalyn spins around just in time to catch - albeit clumsily - a motorcycle helmet. Looking at her brother who was standing at the bottom of the porch steps, she gives him a bewildered stare. "What on earth are you doing?"

"Taking you to town with me." Clint tosses her a leather jacket to go along with the helmet. "It's a little cool this morning - you'll want this."

"But..." Rosalyn's brow furrows. "I don't get it."

"What don't you get?" He was already dressed to ride and was now pulling out his keys. "You and me. Town."

"But I have work to do!"

"It's been taken care of." Clint turns, heading for the garage. "So come on."

Rosalyn growls her frustration. "Well hang on." It only took her seconds to slip inside the dining hall and grab a couple things from her purse before she follows after him. "What do you have to go to town for?"

"I got some errands to run."

"And so why are you dragging me along?"

Clint stops just as he gets the garage, turning to give Rosalyn a look that questioned her intelligence. "Seriously?"

Taken aback, Rosalyn stares down at the helmet and jacket as the realization sinks in. "You don't have to do this."

"Yeah, well... that's not the point, is it?" Clint opens the garage and goes to his bike, pushing it out into the morning light. Mounting up, he glances at his sister. "Coming?"

Rosalyn bites her lip, hesitating, but trying to hide a smile. "Idiot."

Clint laughs as she dons the jacket and helmet. "I've been called worse." He thumbs over his shoulder. "Climb on, Sis. The sunshine's waitin' on us."

It was only minutes later that Rosalyn had her arms around Clint's waist, holding on tightly as they sped down the road. It had been a long time since she'd been with him on his bike, but she'd always secretly enjoyed it. And, it wasn't often that it was just the two of them. Some might not even realize they were siblings, let alone twins. But just because their bond was quiet didn't mean it wasn't strong...

...Jacket unzipped, helmet under arm, Rosalyn pauses at the hotel room door. She'd seen Chad's jeep in the parking lot, so she knew he was here this morning and had told Clint to go ahead and see after his errands.

Finally lifting her hand, she knocks. "Chad?" she calls softly. "It's Rosalyn..."

Jared's grin evolves into a full smile. "Well we wouldn't want that happening, now would we?" His voice was still quiet, his hand returning to Grace's cheek to brush it softly. "Maybe we'll just have to build up intensity more... gradually."

As his eyes search her own, a small, almost far-away light seems to diminish from his gaze. More like suddenly realizing there was a cold draft, it might not have been enough for anybody else to even notice.

His hand slowly departs from her face, and he turns to sit straighter again. And without much warning, the warm moment seemed to have passed.

Jared clears his throat before taking another bite of food. A sidelong glance is tossed at Grace as a boyish grin emerges. "We better cut this out or you'll never get any work done on my legs."

Do you think She...

Feeling Jared's hand on her neck and than the back of her head Grace can't help but give a small shiver. She'd never felt completely comfortable with anyone like this before but something about Jared, no matter what she did or didn't know about him she felt safe, like everything would be ok and he wouldn't hurt her. Though the sound of her own beating heart made her fear Jared might hear it because in her own ears she could hear the pound.

As Chad's lips come close to her own and feeling his passion Grace can't help but lets her own arms go tighter around him keeping Jared closer to him as well. Letting her own passion flow through the moment Grace couldn't help murmur that escaped her lips as Jared's lips moved from hers and than back again. Soaking in the moment Grace was enjoying it and was a little disappointed as Jared pulled away.

Looking into his eyes once again she can't help the little bit of color that spreads across her cheeks. She never been kissed like that before and though she liked it she couldn't help the color. It made her feel warm and tingly and she liked it.

"Mmmm...ok your right that was a little better. Any more intense and I think my heart might just beat right out of my chest."

Smiling down at Cindy Wes can't help the biggest smile that spread across his face. Everything about this moment was perfect, even if there was no breakfast, as long as his wife was there, his family was there he would be happy.  They meant everything to him how could he not be happy.

"Mmm...well I am happy I didn't lose my touch on cooking. At least I can still help you with that now."

Once Cindy had her plate of food Wes moved around to the other side of the bed spreading out but staying close to Cindy still giving her room to eat. He just wanted to be close to her because to him this all felt like a dream too even if he new it wasn't.

Leaning on his elbows and looking up at Cindy Wes gives her arm a soft kiss before letting his eyes meet hers and just search them for a very long moment. He loved there depths, and how they sparkled. They were so pretty Wes had never seen anything prettier. It was Cindy and the thought of her and Kaylee that helped him get through the hard times, and would continue to.

"It will be nice to see everyone else again too. Might be a little over whelming but not to horrible as long as I have my two best girls by my side. Think Kaylee will know who I am?"

Stepping out of the hotel Chad feels his cell phone go off. He was up early today and looking forward to seeing Rosalyn. He would take her into town and it didn't bother him all the driving. He was use to it with his job so it was just like another day but for an even better reason.

Reading the text Chad can't help the slight feeling of disappointment. Part of him wanted to go get her anyways, and part of him said no. Maybe she did need her space. If she ditched out tomorrow he could go get her right? Letting out a long sigh he hits reply.

Alright, I'll see you tomorrow than,
No ditching me than though or I
am gonna come get you anyways.
Try and have a good day Rosalyn
I am only a phone call away.

Hitting send Chad hoped in the text he didn't sound to disappointed. He didn't want to make Rosalyn feel bad. Now he could look around town and check out a few places right? Alone...but he could try and still make it fun?

1/2/13

Maybe tomorrow

There was much more Rosalyn's heart wanted to say, but she left her phone closed for the night. Sleep didn't come easily, especially in a strange bed. She was glad for the hospitality of Clint and Wendy though, and helping take care of Chase and Kaylee too her mind off her own problems for a little while at least. Come morning though, her heart felt much more gray than the bright, cloudless sky.

Sitting on the porch swing of the main building, Rosalyn fiddles with her phone. It wasn't quite time for breakfast yet, but Jade had a handle on things in the kitchen, so she'd opted to spend a few quiet moments alone before more people started filing in. She was trying to be cheerful... to put on a smile... especially since they'd all get to see Wes later today. But... her heart just wasn't in it.

After letting out a long sigh, she finally flips open her phone.

Good morning, Chad. I hope you
haven't left yet. Please... don't
come to the ranch today. I can't
handle it. Not again. Not so soon.
Please understand. Maybe
tomorrow if you haven't gone
home yet.

Stirring just a little, Cindy thinks maybe she feels the bed move, and maybe hears Wes leaving the room. But she was still too asleep to know for sure. She didn't know how late she and Wes had stayed up talking, but she did know that she hadn't slept as well since before he'd left. Something told her that it was later than usual for her to wake up, but she was so comfortable and warm that she just didn't want to move.

It wasn't long though when she feels the bed move again and she receives a light kiss and hears Wes' sweet voice. Her eyes flutter open and a thin smile spreads on her lips. "Mmm..." She stretches sleepily. "I wouldn't mind either... as long as you came back to keep me warm." She finds his hand, bringing it close to kiss. "But... I'd hate for such cute efforts to go to waste." Her eyes glance at the hot breakfast. "It's so good to have you home... even if you didn't fix me breakfast."

Breaking into a smile, she finally pulls herself up to sit. Setting the plate in her lap, she takes a bite and nods. "You can still cook eggs," she teases. "I'll give you that." Her foot nudges his leg. "Everybody is going to be so happy to see you, Wes... It all still feels like a dream."

Drawn into Grace's kiss, Jared returns it with the same amount of passion, feeling as he had the other day when they'd kissed for the first time. He's almost disappointed as she pulls away, and he tastes of his lips. His eyes lock with Grace's, a sly grin toying at the corners of his mouth. "A little," he admits.

His hand slinks around the back of her shoulder, his thumb running up and down her neck. "I still think we could do better," he whispers, leaning in closer again. Caressing the back of her head, he returns to her lips, giving her a string of light kisses that move to her cheek, to below her jawline, then back up again where he deepens the kiss for several long moments.

Withdrawing just far enough to see her eyes once more, his grin returns. "Mm...that's more like it."

Little better

Getting Rosalyn's reply Chad was happy she had chosen too. Part of him had wondered if she would or not with how things had been left when he'd left. With her replying though it did make things easier because now he didn't have to try and convince her or if he did at least she wasn't completely close minded.

You are not making anything harder on me.
This is far from hard. Tomorrow it is,
I will text you on my way out there.

Chad stops for a second giving a smile before continuing the text.

   Sleep well my princess.

Wes understood what Cindy was saying and he didn't mind at all. He new the others would understand his want to just spend a little time with her before everyone else. It had been to long he'd been away and though dead he just wanted the quiet to hold her, to tell her everything he wanted too. And that night he did just that talking for hours, enjoying her company.

...Morning came all to quick with Cindy still wrapped in his arms. Opening his eyes and hearing the sound yet the quiet of the area a smile spread across Wes lips. He was home, with his wife, warmth and safety. Last night the nightmares didn't come, and he was glad at least for one night he could be at peace with his own mind, and what he was thankful for.

Slipping out of bed softly as to not wake Cindy up Wes slowly walks into the kitchen not bothering to throw a shirt on. His scars bothered him but something about being here, about being home seemed to for not let them slip from his mind. Going to the coffee pot and turning it on Wes gets to work on making some breakfast and soon the smell of bacon,

Finished and having everything platted up Wes takes the food on a small try and brings it into the bedroom setting it down on the night stand by Cindy's side of the bed. Sitting down on the edge and leaning over her Wes leans down and places a kiss on her lips before nuzzling her head with his own.

"Babe, I made breakfast if your intrusted. If not I don't mind just sitting here and watching you sleep."

Feeling Jared's hand on her face Grace could feel her heart kick it up a few notches. His hands were warm, and soft, Grace liked how they felt on her skin. Leaning her head into his hand a little bit her eyes fall shut for a second before she opens them again and looks into Jared's.

As he draws closer and brushes his lips against hers Grace thought maybe her heart would pound out of her check. Keeping her eyes locked with his though and seeing the smirk on his lips she new this was now a show down on who could out last who.

"No...that was not to shabby...but this...."

Leaning in again and pressing her lips to Jared's Grace's free hand comes to the side of his face and than to the back of his head. Just letting her lips press against his for a long moment before finally pulling away out of breath just a little bit. Giving a smile her eyes stay locked with his.

  "...is a little better."

12/31/12

Goodnight

Feeling her phone vibrating in her pocket, Rosalyn slowly opens her eyes. She was still lying on the bed with Chad's shirt still clutched in her hand. Swallowing hard and smacking her dry lips, she brings her surroundings into focus, finding it difficult to rouse her foggy brain.

Finally rolling over, she digs out her phone and flips it open. Seeing a message from Chad, her heart immediately flutters, though she tries to make it stop. After reading what he had to say, her thumbs hover over the small buttons. Half of her wanted to just grab a truck now and go into town. And half of her wanted to tell him to quit trying - it was over.

Glad to know u found a place.
Thank u for the bracelet- i love it.

She pauses as her mind races.

Im sorry tho... its just not going
to work between us. Its too much
stress and it will tear us apart
eventually. I dont want to see u
hurt. Im so sorry. Thank u for
everything. Goodbye.

Rosalyn stops before hitting "send." Tears welled up in her eyes as she reread her own message. She could imagine Chad's face and the disappointment in his gaze. She could imagine the hurt - that she would cause. And she pressed "delete" instead, before retyping.

Glad to know you found a place.
Thank u for the bracelet- i love it.
I dont know when i can get away. No
promises, but i will try tomorrow.
U've put up with so much already. I
dont want to make it harder on u.
Goodnight, Chad.

"I think... I like the first option." It wasn't that Cindy didn't want the others to see Wes, or that she didn't want her daughter around either. But she did want more time for just herself and her husband, if only for a few more hours until the reality of life had to return. And she knew no one would blame her.

"But the others do need to know." She lifts her head, a little grin coming to her lips. "At least that way they won't have the shock of their life like I did."

Letting her lips brush Wes', her voice softens. "But it was a good shock."

Easing away from him, she doesn't want to get up, but she knows she had to. Prying herself from the couch, she runs as hand through her unruly hair and wanders to the kitchen phone. And it was Mick's cell phone she chooses to dial...

...The news spread like wildfire, as did the shock and joy. It was hard to believe that Wes was alive, let alone right here at home. Everyone wanted to see him, but all understood him spending time alone with Cindy until the next day. Of course, that also gave everyone enough time to plan a little party for supper tomorrow night.

Jared breaks his gaze from Grace to keep eating, though his eyes did return to hers, as if drawn by magnets. "I dunno..." He gives her a little shrug. "I s'pose we could find out if we really wanted to."

Taking another sip of water, he lets a couple moments bring a silent pause, just prolonging the suspense. Finally though, he shifts a little on his side, keeping one hand on the floor for leverage. Lifting his other hand, he runs his fingers along the side of Grace's face. "At least... I don't think it would be hard." He leans a little closer. "I don't... anticipate this... being... too horrible."

His lips brush hers just lightly. "Mm... yeah... not so bad..." Remaining an inch or so away, his eyes twinkle, challenging her to kiss him back."

Family Time

Not rushing back into town Chad drives slow just enjoying the view and the scenes. Being by water, the ocean, or a late was like home to him and where he would feel most comfortable but something about this place to it was just peaceful and he wanted to enjoy it while he could.

Finally getting into town though and finding a place to bunk down Chad pulls out his phone. Flopping down on the bed he holds it for a second before finally opening a message to Rosalyn. He said he'd text her and he planned on it. This was not the last she had seen of him.

Rosalyn, Staying at the Western Inn, in town. I know tonight it might be kind of hard but tomorrow afternoon maybe we can meet for lunch or dinner. I hope you got my gifts ok.

Keeping his one arm tightly around Cindy Wes didn't mind just laying here, and falling asleep, in the comfort and safty of his own home just that short nap felt like he had been sleeping for days. Knowing Cindy was this close to him and just feeling her warm skin against his own. He was anxious to see Kaylee too but there was part of him that was a little scared too.

"Mmmm...than how about we see if Wendy will watch Kaylee the night I am sure she wont mind and than that will give use a chance to catch up a little more."

Leaning his head down against Cindy's Wes did know that everyone in the ranch needed to find out he was still alive but he couldn't help but what the quiet with his family first. So they could get use to him before everyone else deiced to have there time with him too.

"Or I could wait here while you go get Kaylee and than we could just have a family night. So long as I am with you guys I am happy."

Seeing the smile spread across Scott's face it pleased Dalton. Even if it was for a small moment it was still there, and she was happy. A little was better than nothing and at this point Dalton would rather see Scott's face light up a small bit than not at all.

"Mmm...I think Dani said she wanted a spring wedding, or maybe next year? I'm really not a hundred percent sure. I figured when she is sure on the date she will let me know since I need to be there and all."

Giving a smile to Scott Dalton was happy to help him get his mind of things and have the topic be a little brighter. And the though that he got to share this moment with his best friend was even better. Scott was the closest thing Dalton ever new to a best friend and he'd though he had almost lost him once he wasn't going to let it happen again.

"I guess at this point its just go with the flow till Dani has a few things figured out. Than I can try and work around that. I'll be happy your my wing man though. I'm gonna need a guy to just kick back and relax with once and a while."

Laughing at Jared Grace gives his foot one last push before leaving it be. Taking a bit of her own food she was happy they had done this today. The food tasted good, and the company was good what else could she ask for? Throwing a little grin to Jared her eyes give a little sparkle.

"That wouldn't be such a horrible thing if you did...would it be?"
